So I've been checking out the rom/kernel threads and I've seen roms and kernels for the H930 model. However, I have an H930Ds. I understand that the only difference between the two is the storage size.
I'd like to know if I can flash roms/kernel for H930 to my H930DS? Or is it a no-go?
I got confused because I can't recall seeing a rom for the DS version. Is it because there's no dev for it, or is it because it works with the H930 software?
I'm afraid of bricking my phone so I haven't tried anything yet as it's the only phone I have right now.
Thank you for the answer!
The DS stands for Dual SIM - that's the difference, not (necessarily) the storage. Stock ROMs for H930 are compatible with H930DS, and dual SIM functionality is retained. Can't speak for custom or kernels, ask the devs of the ones you want to try.

Yes, they are compatible. Initially for H930DS there was an issue with the AOSP ROMs recognizing 2nd SIM card (or something like that). Now been resolved.
Always worked with stock based ROMs like Boombox.
Also, most all current H930 ROMs are compatible with all V30. It's just @SGCMarkus has an H930.

I see. I though DS meant it was a v30+ rather than just v30. I didn't want to ask in a dev thread that's why i asked here first.

Thanks! I don't really use the 2nd sim slot so it's not an issue for me (but I guess that issue is already fixed now).
I'm on stock rom (too lazy to flash a different rom as I have to start over with my apps lol) and I was interested in a custom kernel.
As long as I won't hard brick my device, I'm all for experimenting (I'll grab some backups first). Much appreciated!

(no, system/boot/recovery arent that important)

Lol yeah. Hopefully i won't make the mistake I did with my Xperia L (messed the boot partition - I'm stupid at times lol) :silly:
How about the other way around? a H930 variant flashing a H930DS rom?
The reason i'm asking is because i bought a H930, yet I want to flash a local rom, which only available as H930DS roms.

It should be OK. The only thing I would worry about is your microSD card slot may be wonky, since there's no 2nd SIM card slot. What region are you trying to flash? You were able to get an H930 for less money or something instead of an H930DS?

Thanks for the reply, I have been following your tutorials to unlock bootloader and root :highfive:
I am trying to flash HKG region on a H930 variant.
I bought a 2nd hand H930 for $205usd which I think is a pretty great deal, the seller was friendly enough to include a wireless charger too.
I intend to experiment with HKG rom to see if VoLTE or VoWiFi works. They are something I can live without with, if this goes into the unknown territories...
Is it likely that I can fix it in case something bad happens after I attempt?
I went ahead and tried it, it works.
SDCard, VoWiFi appears to be working fine. Though VoLTE is a hit and miss, the phone call only works for about 10 seconds and then both side can't hear each other. It could be my network operator or bad reception at where I live, not sure.
It is weird to see sim1 and sim2 in status bar and settings on a single sim device though.

BoomBox rom falls under your criteria.
Just check if it's compatible with your model, I'm not sure.

I find it easier to just debloat manually...some people consider decent apps as boat and delete stuff you may like...so root delete the junk and enjoy

Boombox is partially debloated with some unnecessary apps being removed, but there's another full-sized stock rom named "Theory of Everything" which is more noticeably debloated and has the features for the AI software. I'd definitely recommend that to anybody new to the LG V30.
Thanks for the reply guys, i think i may jsut go stock and debloat on my own w/Titanium Backup...

Once you convert to Oreo US998 or H930 there's not much to debloat. Wallpapers, Facebook. What else? And I like Facebook. LG Health? I sort of like that, actually.

You need to actually read the instructions. Your haven't done that yet? You cannot bootloader unlock and root stock H931. You have convert root H931 to US998.

Right. Jump you post #193 in that thread. Post #1 in that thread has copy and paste of post #193, but the original is easier to read than quoted version.
Print it out if you can. Don't skip steps. It clearly tells when the go to the next section. It's not hard, you just have to follow the steps.
CONCEPT: @TxanMoe discovered LG Oreo on the V30/V30+/V30S has nice flaw where you can flash your own bootloader unlock code to successfully unlock the bootloader, install TWRP and root.
But you need fastboot flash commands. In North America, only the carrier unlocked US998 has that. But you can use dev patched LGUP to convert any other North America phone (except T-mobile H932) to become a US998 Oreo phone. FLASH bootloader unlock code. BOOM. Sprint and Verizon users then add back LTE bands or VoLTE/Wi-fi calling.
Similar situation for the the rest of the world with the European H930 Oreo. Some differences but for this overall view, it's the same concept.
Now, we have learned the June Android security patch will have fix for "LG bootloaders". Unlock the bootloader while you can!
Thank you to all for the input. The phone arrived, but OLED has an issue, some green dot thats always on. More than just one stuck pixel.. back it goes...

No, do not convert to H930. You'll brick your phone trying to flash H930 KDZ.
You can probably still use the kernels. "H930" in our development is generic for V30. The only time that not true is if you have T-MOBILE H932.
That's when all ROMs are either for H930 (almost everyone) or H932 (only that variant specifically).

I have flashed the Turtle kernel from telegram group, known as only for h930, for my stock 20e us998. The phone was booted but suddenly restarted right after access home screen. Then it repeated the circle.
i guess it's about the difference of ramdisk.
Tonight I will flash custom h930 rom like Pixel Exp and give it a try. Hope It works...

Yeah, you should probably only use those kernels in custom ROMs? Many custom ROMs have already recommended custom kernels.
I just know all the current "H930" ROMs are compatible with US998 20E.

You can flash AOSP custom ROMs on US998. WHERE do we have to post it do people stop asking?
H930 is the generic Dev name for the V30, for AOSP ROMS. It just is. Only H932 can't flash H930 AOSP ROMs.
Do not try to flash H930 stock firmware on your US998.
Why do you think your need to flash H930 stock firmware on your US998?

There's an actual thread of how to convert H930 to US998 excluding some incompatible files, its a bit confusing for someone who just walked into V30 community there are posts that say you can't convert then there are posts that tell you how to convert and some of AOSP OP's stated US variant V30 users need to convert to H930(having previous V20 and V10 am aware that H9--/9--DS[dualsim] are often international variant)
Lets say for e.g I need to flash havoc I can give it a go on US998 Oreo? Or ill have to convert to H930 also other H930 Roms I know these are compatible but whats the workaround convert and flash or flash over US998

It's not confusing if you read the ROOT STICKY GUIDE guide. See post #2, point 3 in the link above.
If you're flashing Havoc "Pie" (LOS-16) yes you use stock Oreo base. But IF you're flashing Havoc "Android 10" (LOS-17) then you need stock Pie base.
Read all of Post number 2 in the link I just gave you. You should have read it when you rooted your phone. It's in the WTF instructions.

You're welcome.
I wrote The ROOT STICKY GUIDE guide to answer such questions like that. And I put link to that guide in huge letters in the WTF instructions. But no one seems to go read it. Post #2 is "ADVICE ON CUSTOM ROMS".
The dev who created the first Los ROM had an H930. So he created the entire tree called H930 instead of V30.
But all the AOSP ROMs are compatible with all V30 variants except for T-Mobile H932.
So we get tons of questions like where are the US998 ROMs? Answer they're all the V30 AOSP ROMs.
A lot of people ask "how can I convert to H930 because I want to run H930 ROMs?" And the answer is, you don't have to do that.
While a talented, helpful person did write a guide on how to partially convert North American variants to H930, I do not recommend it at all. And I will continue to tell people not to do that. Most people want to do it because they want the LTE bands on the H930 or the H930DS. And the answer to that is, if you wanted those bands you should have bought H930 or H930DS.

There's just way too much information to take in haha,I had past experience with Samsung,Moto,Sony,Xiaomi even iPhone and Symbians I have used LG's too ever since G2/G3 in android realm but never tried modding them I wonder how other people with less info might get through all of it
Okay so I didn't plan to buy V30 I just got it cheap so took it coming from SD845 Mi8 had a 2XL in past too,so not being in US and H930 being more suitable for here do you think I'll benefit from H930's 4g bands ? Because I always thought baseband was more of a hardware thing don't get it how H930's modem will work with a US Variant
So far I am happy with LG US devices, there is no way around for Samsung US devices other than installing U(Unlocked Stock)
I just feel that My DAC on V10 sounded way better than both V20 and V30 although I'm sure these devices have newer DAC
I am planning to Stay on stock can kindly direct me to some mod that will improve cam quality and dac for Oreo or Pie smth stable and good for battery
Thanks a lot mate you've helped me a lot God Bless you

I don't know if your carrier supports that on the H930. My first suggestions would be to reinstall the most recent H930 KDZ for your region. See if that works for you.
Second, @seadersn started a guide to help people, but it's advanced:

Other than impatience, the only people who I see needing this are users who would like Eastern European languages.
You have to make sure you omit three partitions or it will mess up your phone:
modem, xbl, xbl 2,
And then every time you do an update, you have to remember to again omit those three partitions. Like when EU H930 Pie 30c KDZ comes in a month or so, you can NOT choose "Update"! Or "Refurbish". Or you will have a bad day.
Every time you have to choose Partition DL and specifically omit those three partitions which are not compatible with US998.
For people who are just impatient for US998 Pie, hopefully it will come before EU H930 30c KDZ is released, but for people who are using this conversion trick on a permanent basis, they have to remember that.
It IS a neat trick, as long as you remember the caveats.

For people who are just impatient for US998 Pie, hopefully it will come before EU H930 30c KDZ is released, but for people who are using this conversion trick on a permanent basis, they have to remember that.
It IS a neat trick, as long as you remember the caveats.

So say someone has a lg v30+ and flashed eu h930 pie. Clearly didnt read enough and had no interent while on eu pie. Decided to go back to Havoc (without backing up radio/modem). Assuming I need to reflash radio from us998 version, what would be the easiest way?
Would I need to downgrade back to oreo or just extract radio from us998 rom and flash.

So, you are saying that person didn't omit the three partitions when flashing, but instead flashed all partitions (modem, xbl, xbl 2,) and now they have no working radio? Or do they also have bootloops with no radio?
I also added a warning a couple of days ago to all the Pie KDZ threads I maintain to NOT to update to Pie at this point in time if you wish to install AOSP/Lineage ROMs:

@ChazzMatt can you the following warning/disclaimer to the first post:
If you flash pie KDZ then AOSP ROMs like LOS, RR, havoc won't work properly. Even if you flash Oreo KDZ and then flash AOSP ROMs, the camera and flashlight won't work on enforcing but will work on permissive. But even on permissive a few sensors other than the camera may not work. This will be the case until AOSP ROMs with Pie blobs come.

You would need to go back to US998 Oreo, which I would do via Refurbish mode in Dev Patched LGUP.
But if you then want to run Havoc, you may have to use the steps in this thread:

Yeah everything booted and worked perfectly on pie except the radio. I swear I searched before flashing but going forward was based off h930 and not converted us998.
My fault but couldn't kill this phone if I tried. Luckily it's my backup but my soon get some usage. Thanks as always.
Yes, the H930_30B pie works fine as a WiFi tablet for US998-20H. If you omit the 3 partitions (XBL, XBL2, and Modem), then GSM radio works. CDMA radio still dead though. Thus, for GSM users, go for it but CDMA users, best stick with beta pie 28A or wait for official PIE KDZ

Use "dual mode" LGUP on H930-30B flash OP https://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-v30/development/h930-lg-v30-european-market-t3951898

You have to use the newer Dev Patched LGUP that's in the H930 Pie KDZ thread. Also now listed in the Frankenstein thread. It's newer than the one listed in the Oreo KDZ threads and the one formerly listed in the Frankenstein thread.
Hi All,
I upgraded to the latest PIE rom "US99830b_00_0902.kdz" over top of the 20H rom, dirty flash with LGUP.
I've noticed that VoLTE (advanced calling, hd voice) is missing. I've also noticed that I lose 4g data while a call is in progress.
I also noticed VoLTE options are missing in the "hidden menu".
A consequence of no VoLTE is no data while making calls, which is frustrating.
I've seen sparse references to a "USA" version of the rom that isn't out yet.
Does anyone else on the PIE rom have VoLTE options?

Verizon. All the aforementioned features were working on the 20h rom.
I have Verizon as well. If I recall their was a work around to get the US 20h rom to work with VoLTE but it was kind of a hack. I never got it working myself (VoLTE and VoWiFi do not work out of the box on any of the US ROMS for Verizon specificly). I would suggest switching to one of the Verizon branded ROMs. You can do so and still maintain root (for debloating and personalizing). I can attest that on the 30c Pie Verizon ROM VoLTE and VoWiFi do work (you have to sign up for MyVerizon for VoWiFi it seems). Also, very likely if you are switching from one of the US based ROMs to the Verizon one, you'll probably need to follow https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=80347089&postcount=6 that guide by ChazzMatt or you'll end up stuck at the V30 screen.
Was the work around baked into the 20h rom, or was it an extra procedure after flashing? I upgraded to the "open", "US" 20h rom and volte worked with no extra steps.

I have unrooted stock. Still curious why this latest US998 PIE rom lacks VoLTE functionality when the 20h rom had it.
I can confirm reverting to the Verizon carrier rom VS99630c does restore VoLTE functionality (advanced calling).
I don't consider this issue resolved though since I had to move my carrier unlocked phone onto a carrier rom, which included a master reset.
Does anyone know why VoLTE function is missing in US99830c rom?
edit: US99830b, not 30c

USS98 is 30b right now.
Something about it being technically U.S. Cellular KDZ rather than Open Market firmware?
With Oreo there was no difference. Apparently with Pie there are differences.

Yeah this surprised me as well...
I downloaded the regional rom's for 30b and the md5's all matched.
Verizon is dropping CDMA at the end of 2019 and moving all calling functionality to VoLTE. My understanding is if that feature is missing, then anyone using this rom on Verizon's network will lose calling functions.
At this point, it seems US99820h is the latest version for unlocked V30's on Verizon that has this capability with stock roms.
I did confirm VS996_30c has functional VoLTE. However since I was stock I had to master reset.
Hopefully a new version of US998 comes soon with functioning VoLTE.

Verizon announced back in July/August they were extending CDMA for one more year. Too many people weren't ready?
Now it's end of 2020. I had posted about it before but here's another look.

Thanks for the update. Google's first hits were still saying end of 2019, so its good to have the right date.
In either case, I've reverted back to US998_20h for now. I'll keep an eye out for a pie rom with confirmed VoLTE.

I did cross flash from us99830b to vs99630c and it did provide me with volte, however I don't prefer Verizon's branding on the phone, so I elected to revert to an unlocked rom in hopes that a new us998_30 rom will be released in the future with volte function. Perhaps a bit silly, but it's a preference at this point I think. I would be a bit more ambitious but I use Google pay and AirWatch daily, so I can't accept the risk that these apps might break with root and an unlocked bootloader.

I don't have an answer either, but this is what I've done too. The official VS996 ROMs have too much junk for me, I'd rather start with the US998 and forgo VoLTE.
I went from US99830B to US99630C to get VOLTE. But after reading this thread,
I did a clean install of US99820H but after initial setup, when I accessed Advanced Calling in the settings, HD calling is greyed out.
