Since Huawei does not "want" to update my mediapad with ota (I'm stucked to version 8.0.0.161 (june security patch) while in HFF three new release are available (181, 183 and 186 but just the first is approved for my version), I like to know if a manual update is a safe procedure.
If I understand well it should be enough to download the OTA (or maybe the full ota is better?), uncompress under the dload folder and reboot.
Is this true?
How high is the possibility of a brick?
Are the ota downloadable from hff really safe?
Thanks in advance.

I investigated.
This is an old way that works until nougat.

I've manually updated my MediaPad 5 8.4 (SHT-AL09) every time a new update is released. I'm currently running variant c432 and rom version 8.0.0.191.
I use the procedure I posted several months ago:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=77177717&postcount=4
This procedure require an unlocked bootloader, right?

I suspect there is no way to manually update without unlocking bootloader

Rooted == Titanum Backup, so install that and then can restore apps etc piece of piss
Not too sure as it is worth it. I know that the ITaly 3G has had a R2 and know a R2A, but this is for the 3G more than anything.
TBH I have updated R1A on NZ tab and I can't see a difference.
Since you have root you could allways change back, simple as.

Hi,
I have a problem with updates. I didn't recieve any OTA updates with my Honor 7.
I have updated my phone manually to B170 but i didn't before no updates for B130 and other updates.
Somebody a solution for this of have the same problem ?
Right now, people with b130 are receiving the ota update to b180 so you could have just waited. Now you can either manually update to b180 or b320 or just wait a week or two for final marshmallow release. I think it will arrive as ota to everybody

Had the same problem.
I had to update from B121 to all updates until B170. With the B170 I suddenly received B180 (two weeks ago I guess) ota.
There is no reason for that, I already talked to the costumer support of Honor.
But a Tip from me: Turn off Flight Mode so that you have a mobile signal. Then turn on wifi and see if you get an update via the EMUI Update app
Greetings Sebster

@Sebster97: I have the same problem, I'm on B130 (not rooted) now and my Updater says "No updates". And that tip doesn't work. And... I don't see why it should work anyway.

I've noticed, that, if you hit the update button and afterwards disable flight mode, the update app says "Look for updates" instead of "No updates available". So I tought, maybe with disabled flight mode you have the access to an update.
I also read it on other posts here.
Honor rolls out the updates in VERY strange stages. Nobody (maybe even Honor) doesn't know, how the useres in diffrent areas are able to update

Mine says "Check for updates" and "No updates" in either way, airplaine mode on or off.
I also tried several times to check for updates while being in another country, same result.
One thing you got right: Honor's way to seed the updates it's A MESS! After almost 2 months of using the phone, I've got only one update, from B120 to B130, while others are already on MM, using the same PLK-L01 European version. This is crazy!

I saw there ist a method with a .TOT file for getting root on a LG V10 960A
but while checking all prereqesites, I updated to Marshmallow via LGBridge.
So it seems to be, that root ist only possible for Lollipop?
I did not find a description how to root with updated Marshmallows
LG Marshmallows Update does not unlock the bootloader.
Can someone explain how to root an updated LG V10?
There is currently no way to root the v10 on MM.
Only for LP there is a rooted tot file to flash with LG UP.

I have another question. Is there any chance to upload Andorid 6 on the system with root? I was thinking of flashing a pure 5.1 only if something can / do not damage?
You mean updating to MM while on a rooted 5.1?
Or going back to 5.1 after upgrading to MM?
For the first you would have to unroot befor updating.
And for the second, yes it's possible to downgrade after updating to MM.
I hope i got you right...
Gesendet von meinem LG-H960 mit Tapatalk
No. I have rooted 5.1 and i want to go back to clean 5.1 (without root)(maybe you know another way to unroot H960A?). Is it safe for my phone? After return to 5.1 can i update safe to MM?
Yes I think you should be able to flash the stock kdz file again (with upgrade option should do, so you don't lose your data) and after that you can easily update with LG UP or even LG bridge.
But actually I remember i was on rooted 5.1 and just flashed the v20a MM with LG UP using upgrade and had no issues at all. Data and settings all still present.
Just make sure you flash the right kdz for your phone variant.

Ehh... I have to be 100% sure to do this... (I do not want to have an expensive brick...)

Hi there has anyone seen the update for this version with face unlock yet? Seems some other versions have it and I can see it on firmware finder but it's not authorized for ages now and I don't have an unlocked bootloader....
Same here. I been waiting for the update with face unlock. I downloaded the update with firmware finder "update. zip" but i do not know how to install it manually.

After all that bricks I think almost nobody is taking that route. I had like 30 Android devices so far and never read so many reports.
Makes me think if the approval of update 142 could be related to this. The risk of a brick updating from 137 is too high, so they are not approving any updates until they fixed it. What you think?

I guess we should just be patient. It sucks though when all the other cheaper variants get the update first compared to a £700 flagship
Even my friends Mate 10 Lite got the update with face unlock feature smh.

There were no bricks with BLA-L29 C432 devices. I'm on B142 C432 and had no issue to update from B141 (noxloader). Also, B142 pass SafetyNet verification, so it was approved by Google.
Hi, I would like to buy the Tab S6 256GB LTE version, but in Brazil we only have the 128GB one. Can I flash the brazilian the brazilian firmware (128 to 256)? Also, can I do it without root? Basically I would like to "transform" it in the brazilian version. Thanks!

yes. via ODIN software you can flash any original firmware without loosing the "original" status. you should only take care that the "radio" part is compatible and the firmware is for the exactely same model!

Thank you! What do you mean same model? Because the brazilian version would have a different model number than the British one, I think...
model number should be the same. maybe different model numbers could accept different firmware but with some risk and possible downsides.
first: check the model number by the seller point.
mine i.e. is: sm-t860
then you can start searching compatibility on the forum.
