Dead Galaxy J1 [HELP!] - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi. I have a dead Galaxy J1 (SM-J100ML/DS). This phone doesn't starts. I tried going to recovery and download mode but nothing. PC doesn't detects nothing when i connect the phone but when i enter recovery mode pc detects an unknown device.
I have samsung drivers, adb and fastboot installed.
Please, if someone knows how to solve this or something tell me. I need help. This phone isn't rooted and i never modified it.

What did you actually do before the device went bricked

Use it normally. I just use whatsapp and that things. (Idk if it's bricked or what but maybe it's a hardware problem).

I think that a month ago i tried to connect it to PC and it was detecting as QSHUB_DLOAD (bootloader) but now it doesn't detects nothing except in recovery (unknown device)

In the worst part, You'll need to paid to get your phone back. Just go to certified samsung store and ask them about this.

[Q] What are the causes why you can't unbrick your phone?

I know there are tons of questions here how to unbrick a phone. But, this is not about it.
I know you can't unbrick your phone if you messed up your download mode and you can't even boot up into download mode.
What are the causes why you can't enter in download mode?
How do I prevent destroying my download mode?
For others who are asking if they can unbrick their phones. I would answer you, yes as long as you have download mode you can do whatever you like. I have bricked my phone countless times already. But I am not sure until when my download mode will last.
I dont know if this applies for SGA but you can just use JTAG.
Some have lost the imei, this apears to be the only reason. It normaly happens through trying to unlock the phone.

@QNBT
thanks for your input. However I am asking ways to 'prevent' download mode from being destroyed
@Jusada
Does this mean if I don't brick my phone by unlocking, I can unbrick it by flashing.
And if gets bricked by unlockinge then I have to use jtag.?
Sent from my GT-S5830 using XDA App
i have a galaxy s and not the ace, so i'm not 100% sure, but you can only permanently brick your phone when you start messing around with the bootloader
download mode is part of the bootloader, so as long as you leave the bootloader untouched, you can always boot into download mode and reflash the phone

Using JTAG youre actually able to boot up without a bootloader in the phone, it supplies everything from the computer.
If you want to prevent it from bricking, keep away from network unlocking as jusada mentioned. Only flash stuff that is compatible with your rom.
Just curious: if I accidentally plugged out my phone while flashing (in download mode) through ODIN, what would happen? Would it be bricked?
Asking for theories, not practices.

No it wont. You can get into download mode again and flash a ROM. Had happened to me many times.
Wow thanks guys. Does a usb jig work when you messed up the bootloader?

i couldn't see anything displayed on my Samsung Galaxy ACE, even after the 3 button combo.. does this mean my phone is totally bricked?
I installed ROM manager and wen i tried to backup my current ROM, it shutdown and doesn't show anything now..
I'm in bad situation.. please advice me!!
by anychance the USB jig works?
In dis forum most of the people were briked their aces by using rom manager
it really does depends on whether it is a soft brick or a hard brick.

[Q] Galaxy 5 brick problem

Ok, so like I was flashing my phone to Cyanogen mod 9 (using CWM port 0.6) and it went wrong. My phone is now bricked. When I try to boot it up now I get the phone to computer warning thingy message
I can get it into download mode and emergency download mode, but Odin either comes up with "FAIL."
I have tried every single thing on the web, NOTHING works (One click unbrick etc, etc, etc). Please help!
One thing that might help is One Click Unbrick, even after i've installed all of the software, reinstalled the drivers, won't recognise my phone!
Is there anything left that I could try???
P.S. On all the other similar threads, the things they suggest don't work

One click unbrick wont work on the galaxy 5 (i think ) and the best way to unbrick your phone is to use a JTAG or simply give it to samsung for repairs... Trying something which is not supported may worsen the situation ..

I have had the same thing by the same procedure to unlock bootloader and flash cwm ... :crying: :crying: :crying: help us
Try this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=36688645&postcount=808
PS.: If you can't get your phone in emergency mode (step 5) you can put in download mode instead. To get it in download mode press and hold volume down and up while you connect your usb cable to your pc
the phone does not go into any recovery mode (emergency) indeed, the PC recognizes it as USB\VID_05C6&PID_9008&REV_0000
Yet another brick. There should be a counter for this.
How do I reset the counter?

I just cant get into emergency, DIAG or emergency CS
KDZ the phone connects and then I get a message afterwards PHONE NOT FOUND.
everytime I install the drivers by LG support tool, it keeps giving me the option to install the driver, like I havent done it a hundred times over.
I think there should be a driver somewhere that can be installed but the only people that have this driver are LG tech's. So they can bill you after
send the phone in cause you rooted it. So the one billion dollar question is witch hero will find a way to unbrick this device. We only need a way
to get a driver to install and we are home free. Or maybe the only other option is throwing the phone for sale on internet for spare parts:cyclops:

Not sure if I hard bricked my Note 2, what can I do now?

I'll start out that I'm new to android, been an avid blackberry user that just purchased my note 2. I followed the casual root application, and unlocked and rooted my device. I went to install cm 10.2 mod on my device after wiping the device in development mode then proceeded to install from sdcard and it failed. Now my device will not respond to either download mode or development mode or power on in any way (including using a charger and removing and replacing the battery). I'm kind of stuck and not sure how to approach the correct solution to get my device back up and running. I did make sure that the cm mod I downloaded was for my specific device. Is it possible that maybe the root/unlock method failed and thats where I went wrong when installing the cm mod? I also get no response when the device is plugged into my pc. So its not being read by odin currrently.
Since it appears I have hard bricked my device, not quite sure what steps I can do to recover. I get no power to the device in any situation, I've read online about jtag, if anyone could point me in a direction it would be helpful. Thanks in advance.
Sorry forgot to mention this was a verizon branded note 2

connecting to pc does your note responds or pc shoes something
remove your battery connect to pc and go to download mode by pressing the button combo if odin shows a port
and you are connected then you are saved if not I guess its tym for service center
anyways try
P.S be sure that you have latest drivers installed on pc and use the original usb cable for conecting

Thanks for the reply sangalaxy, like I mentioned the phone does not respond at all for download mode, not recognized by Odin or showing any power when connected to a charger. Hence why I was thinking its hard bricked.
I'm not sure if I can send it to samsung, since I bought the phone off craigslist.

Is it possible to completely Hard Brick the LG G2?

I'm just wondering if you can completely Hard Brick a LG G2 to a point, where there is no revive possible.
I can purchase a cheap LG G2 international version, but the seller says that he broke it during flashing a Kernel.
Can you for example revive a phone, that had a Kernel from completely different phone flashed?
Any insight would be greatly appreciated.
Sent from my C6503 using Tapatalk 2
If it's true he only flashed a new kernel then u can restore it. If he messed with the partitions then.... No. If he used a broken usb cable and fried it....
Well ask to try the phone before u by it. Also check if it's stolen
Alright, I gathered some more information from the seller.
He tried updating TWRP, but he followed wrong instructions from some website.
He can´t enter Recovery or Download Mode on the Phone.
The Display is active, but only Backlight.
When he connects the Phone to his Computer, it shows multiple Mass Storages, but the LG Software doesn´t recognize it.
Is this a common problem, that is easy to fix, or should I rather wait for another Deal to come up.
p.s. I asked him for a receipt, and he says that he has one.

If the guy was updating through TWRP, he probably have some knowledge on the matter, and the chances that he bricked it for good is high.
When I messed up my G2 a few times, being able to enter in download mode was the hint that the phone was revivable, if him really can't enter the download mode, then it is probably a bigger problem.
But the question is, by buying this possible lemon, how much will you be saving compared to buying a brand new?
If it's showing up like that, if you have a Linux machine you may be able to use dd to flash factory images to the partitions. There is a guide to it somewhere on here. But even if you were successful in flashing those, it really depends on how badly he screwed it up. In particular I really hope he didn't damage or wipe his efs. Or at least has it backed up.
Honestly, I'd point him to the right guides and have him fix it. If he screwed up his efs, or messed the partitions up, or fried something, it's dead and not coming back. If all he did was flash a kernel in twrp and it was actually from this phone and it was just a bad download or flash or something, then you'd probably be okay, but if that were the case you'd get a secure boot error and still be able to enter download mode. Personally, I would not buy a phone that won't boot, especially if the seller isn't even sure what's wrong with it.
Sent from my LG-G2 using Tapatalk
sounds recoverable, if there is a backlight and mass storage comes up that's good, you can dd partitions with linux
no backlight + no recognizable usb device at all = bricked
still, buy at your own risk
It is.. i just did by flashing a broken rom.. sent it to the repair center and they replaced the motherboard
Right, I asked him if the Device shows as qhsusb_bulk in device Manager, and it does.
The only thing that worries me, is that there is no Boot Logo, most of the people in the Linux Fix Thread atleast get a LG Logo and not just Backlight.
I´m really unsure what to do, I can save like 150€ by buying the broken G2, but well . . . I dont know if I can fix it.
Another problem is, that I have not a single clue on how to operate Linux/Ubuntu, and the only real fix requires either of those

Just look up a guide on how to install an Ubuntu virtual machine. You should be able to connect your G2 to that virtual if you let it capture the USB port. If you can get it cheap, buy it and try to negotiate so you might have a chance on selling it for higher later on if you can't fix it. To me though, it sounds quite fixable, I would go for it.

this doesn't really matter, when I was trying to mess with the bootloader and corrupted it a few times I've never had the LG logo, as long as it comes up as storage you can DD it - the only time its a true brick is with no backlight and no usb device
if theres no boot logo you probably need to DD the aboot in

I had that problem when updating TWRP too. You have to be careful because these recoveries are only made for specific firmware versions. I cant remember how I fixed the issue after only being able to get a backlight on and no image, but I did fix it and my phone works fine. I do think you will need the TWRP files already on the phone to fix though, so you can somehow manage to flash back. They will need to be on the phone since you can push anything via ADB

And yes i truly believe that our device can be hard bricked like i did mine today.
I tried to compile a custom bootloader for G2 using Qualcom's sources and fraction of LK. But in doing so i left my phone in a quasi-state where it will not connect as a usb device coz it does not pass the bootloader (Although bootloader is working as it should). .
So the only two option remain here for me is
1. To send phone back to LG service center where they'll do idk what.
2. To use JTAG or short the ic (Wonder if it could be done ) i.e manually open the phone and boot into the primary bootloader(Qcom legacy BL).
See that's how you can hard brick ur phone the right way

But it did work coz our bootloader enfoces the signature check not in the sbl.(Our Primary boot loader)
i'm sure of it because it tries to go to download option but freezes at initial stage.
had it been the case my device would've been detected as qucom_bulk device or so..

You my dear friend are a victim of a curroupt bootloader seqence(NOT THE CoRRUPT BOOTLOADER) i.e
Your phone would start something like
1- EFI initialization ok
2-Primary Boot Load -ok
3-Vendor Boot Load -ok
4- Error unable to find proper boot sequence- system halted
So ur best options are the one that i've stated just above this thread.
My case. I root and flash custom recovery then apply OTA = medium brick. Download mode was not functioning, only recovery. To make matter worse, I flashed KK stock rom through ADB in recovery = super brick. Then I went to LG service center with poker face asked for reparation. They asked (confirm) whether your phone is rooted or not (they had already know though) and I just said like It is my sister's phone. Then they they open the phone and maybe directly format the sd card with some stuff. My phone is restored again afterward. In my opinion, software modification can always be repaired unless you fry your phone through overclock or overvolt.
