Which has better GPS between BIP and Pace? - Amazfit

Hello guys, i wanted to buy a smartwatch to record my running activities and left my phone behind. Between these two, which one can record running activities accurately?

I own the Bip and apart from being slow to get the initial lock, the GPS is as good as the one on the Galaxy Watch (2018 46mm model) for regular use and better under canopy.

I wasn't able to find the exact GPS chip for both watches, but they both seem to use a Sony 28nm low power GPS+GLONASS chip. So from what I can tell, the GPS capabilities of the Bip and the Pace are exactly the same.

Amazfit for runners - Bad GPS Accuracy

HI all,
Got my English version of Amazfit last week.
I was really exited as I intended replacing my old garmin forerunner 405 with the new smartwatch.
On my first run yesterday I wore both watches and ran a usual 9km near my home.
At the end I got 9.03km on the garmin and 8.79km on the amazfit.
The difference is huge for such a distance.
Has anybody else experienced this? I guess this turns amazfit an unusable tool for Runners..!!
A.
you need to get a gps fix first, before starting the activity, have you done that?
when starting an activity, you need to wait for some 15~30 seconds, till you get a fix, and start running/biking/running around with a latex tale.
please try to re-test again, and also make sure that you have the latest version updated of the watch, 1.3.1m
Good luck!

Are you sure the Amazfit is inaccurate and not the Garmin? If i compare Tracklogs from my Garmin Oregon 450 GPS with the ones from Amazfit they are both quite on the same level, the Amazfit does corners even a bit better. If the Amazfit drifts in position, the Garmin does, too.
And as already mentioned, the Amazfit starts a bit off. so if you want precision, wait for the GPS to be ready.

Hi 1immortal,
Yes I did wait a lot before starting.
In the fist 200m I had 40m of difference.
I thought thats ok - its the satellite fixing difference.
Then gradually this started getting bigger and bigger.
I run with friends who also have garmins and we mostly have a maximum of 50m difference in 10km which is acceptable.

That issues were fixed. Both versions (US and CN) received updates for the GPS firmware. To make sure where the problem comes from you should take a closer look on the tracklogs in a suitable app on your computer. If you provide me GPX files from Garmin and Amazfit i will have a look on it. The shown distance on Amazfit has been quite accurate to the tracklog so far, while Garmin uses other methods to show the distance so i often had different distance on tracklog and on trip computer.
Another indicator is, that the tracklog for the Amazfit is the shortest. Bad GPS receivers usually measure greater distance as the coordinates are inconsistently jumping around and therefore create more meters.
Then you should always do multiple measurements. Sometimes the GPS just goes mad. Over the years i had different Garmin devices and now and then i was walking with a speed of 200km/h and was kilometers off...

Hi Castra,
Thanks for the detailed answer.
I would be glad if you could examine GPX files.
Files attached.

Okay, my name is not "Castra" btw.
Castra Regina is the ancient name of a roman fort that is called "Regensburg" nowadays. Thtat's where i come from.
I had a close look at your Tracklogs and did even look at the location in Google Street View. Really nice little town where you live. I think i will have to go to greece sometimes.
Mostly residential buildings so there is not too much influence on the signal. Anyway, the Amazfit does not perform as good as the Garmin and is drifting off in some locations. They are both not bad but the tracklog seems to be really a bit better on the Garmin.
Did you wear both watches on the same wrist or one left and one right? Was there probably someone running next to you that shielded or reflected the GPS signal? If not, the Garmin performs better here.
You did do the OTA Update to firmware 1.3.1m?
See Images, Blue is Amazfit, green is Garmin.

Hi,
Sorry about the name... and if you come to Athens I can give you a tour....
I wore Amazfit on the left and Garmin on the right. Amazfit was sometimes "blocked" by my running shirt which was not a thick one as the weather was good enough.
Its very usual that the 6 years old Garmin is blocked by the shirt (specially when its cold weather) but NEVER had a problem with that.
There was a friend running next to me but not blocking me.
So my fear that amazfit is inaccurate is probably true.
Thanks for the time spent. I think this is something runner should know before buying this watch as it turns it to be unusable.....
Latest firmware is installed.

Well as the Amazfit is quite good when you are running in one direction and then drifts away in the other it might be that it just lost direct view to some satellites and then used reflected signals which make accuracy notable worse. A person just running by your side or your own body could cause that, while a shirt should not have any influence. So if the person was running to your left it might have had a big influence on the result.
A bit more scientific approach would be to wear both watches on the same wrist and do more runs for comparison before posting that the Amazfit is unusable.
I have been using the watch for two months now and did not experience such huge differences from my other GPS devices. And i really have a close look on many tracklogs as i use it to map new paths in Open Street Maps. I always have the watch and a Garmin Outdoor-GPS with me and use both tracks.

I don't really agree with you
I run with Garmin for approx 5 years and I rarely got big deviations and it was always +/- 30m.
When you wear a watch you need to know that it works well in order to evaluate your pace.
As you saw in the maps Amazfit does not record well and this cannot / should not be explained by minor factors (left right hand).
The only really acceptable factor could be big buildings and bad weather. This is not my case.
I also searched on the net and found that there are some references about bad GPS reception.
Just for the info, why do you run with 2 GPS devices?

I do not run with two devices but when i explore new areas or when i am Geocaching i use the additional Garmin GPS to get a second tracklog and to store Points of interest as new waypoints.
That is helpful sometimes when editing in OSM.
If Garmin works better for you, stay with it.
Their devices are quite good but a bit expensive. I had a few over the last 17 years.
Another test today in steep terrain. Today i had some minor drifts from the Amazfit compared to Garmin, previous tracklogs and OSM data, see attached image.
(Garmin magenta, Amazfit cyan)
The Amazfit really should get another update but as the sensor is quite new, chahces are good to get one.
Weirdest thing is that my Garmin created 725 trackpoints while the Amazfit created 14690. Distance 6,5 km....
They should probably reduce the amount a "bit" which could also save some energy.
I've received my Amazfit Pace version few days ago, updated to last US version. I noticed than GPS accuracy inside the building is terrible. I start Run workout in the office walking around 200-300 meters inside the room. After 6 hours Amazfit counted 30 !!! km of distance. I was shocked so much. Initially I was planning to use Amazfit for itinerary tracking or geotagging tracking during holiday trip. But with such accuracy it's not possible. Anyone has the same problem?

Amazfit show me GPS as available inside the building because of large windows. BTW, if signal is low why Amazfit distance is jumped so much? I saw that distance on the screen was counted and increased almost every second without any watch movement.
I did the same test at home. If Amazfit is located near the window then distance is not counted and stuck on 0.00km. If I try to walk inside the room the the distance start to count and after few minutes show 300-400 meters. Strange.

It is not strange. GPS works by measuring the time signals from different satellites take to reach your device. Then your position is calculated by triangulation.
It is only accurate if you receive direct signals from satellites all over the sky. Inside a building you have no sky view so all the signals you get are reflected by objects like buildings, mountains. If they are reflected they travel a longer distance and so the calculation loses precision. That causes jumping positions and therefore creates some mileage.
Older, less sensitive GPS devices only used direct signals and were much more precise but they also completely lost position in dense forests and between high buildings.
All modern GPS consumer oriented modules on the market are optimised for a quick fix, even under worst condtitons, then comes power saving and price.
Precision is the least of the requirements as you can adjust your position to a map when using it for navigation. (Lock to road)
Good for all the smartphone manufacturers and Google Maps users but bad for all outdoor enthusiasts.
same issue
Hi!
I got the same issue. Amazfit CN version. Firmware Rel 9 (1.2.14) from XDA.
Running in forest, orienteering. Amazfit watch in Trail run mode always reports 400-500m less within 7-9km distance. Difference is confirmed by 5-6 runs.
For example today Amazfit watch: 7.97km, Endomondo (Samsung S7): 8.42km.
I see also issues with max speed, its unreal on Amazfir watch (crap should be filtered out).
I plan to do test using Amazfit and my old Garmin Forerunner 300 in next weeks to prove test results.
Kind regards,
J.

Hi J.
After opening this thread I did get in contact with Huami.
I informed them about the GPS accuracy problem and they were kind enough to send me a new watch.
Unfortunately this did not help. The new watch had exactly the same bad behavior.
So I stopped using the amazfit. I found also to have more than 200-300m less at a 9Km run.
As you probably know that's too much for such a distance.
Below is the mail I did send to Huami.
I did not get yet an answer to that and I think I will not get one
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Got yesterday the new Pace. Pretty exciting I must admit.
I did a 9,5km run on purpose last night in order to test it.
On my left hand both Amazifit Pace and Garmin 405.
Unfortunately the results were not better and much disappointing
So to start I should say that I run in rural areas but in open space.
I attached to this email two GPX files in order to get examined by your team.
One from my old Garmin and One from Amazfit.
On the 9,5km run I got a liithe more than 200m of difference.
This difference is translated in 6 seconds of pace difference which is vary big for a runner.
Pace difference is shown bellow:
(strava is from amazfit and runkeeper is for garmin)
So I uploaded both GPX files on http://www.mygpsfiles.com/app/ in order to visualize them and the findings were interesting.
It seems that though Amazfit gets much more points than my old Garmin, those points are often very inaccurate.
Please find bellow some examples.
Orange trace is Garmin.
Blue trace is Amazfit Pace.
Amazfit (in blue) seems really off road.
Here it seems to loose distance. I did run as Garmin says to the roundabout
I must emphasize that its really an open space run with a very good GPS signal reception.
So it seems that its something going wrong with the GPS of the Amazfit.
I am wondering if there is a calibration problem with Europe/Greece.

Thanks for explanation and visualization. Unfortunately I can't link my workouts with street as there are no streets in forest
I am little bit surprised about this: Endomondo makes less measurements and counts more, Amazfit makes times more measurements and counts less.
I was searching answers and found this article online (type: www dot fellrnr dot com/wiki/GPS_Accuracy), must read... Explains many issues from technical perspective.
I believe and hope that issues are related to software (firmware) of GPS chip and post processing and will be solved in the next firmwares.
Please also note: "AMAZFIT includes the world's first 28 nm Sony GPS sensor". As you know first is always first and requires debugging
"Sony – GPS (with 1/10th the power!) now sampling.
You know how using mapping apps on your smartphone kills your battery? Well now there’s hope. Sony’s getting some super impressive results with their new GPS using 28nm FD-SOI technology. These GPS are operated at 0.6V, and cut power to 10x (!) less than what it was in the previous generation (which was already boasting the industry’s lowest power consumption when it was announced back in 2013)."
You can find more info online.
I completely agree that for running numbers are important. Especially for high pace 4.30 and below, because each seconds counts. I will take Amazfit to my next street workouts for marathon training to do the same gps data analysis as you did above.
My strategy is to wait for firmware updates and hope issues will be resolved.
Thanks.

Amazfit GTS bad GPS

Honestly, the GPS is a ****. One week ago I did a small running. The GPS showed me about 5% less then the reality. For such a price of the watch it is OK. But yesterday I did the same trail, same weather conditions, but the watch showed me by 28% more! That's not acceptable even for the price of GTS...
Honestly, even the pedometer shows better results...
It's not about weather conditions. It's about currently available GNSS satellites over your head. GNSS is not static.
No, GTR and GTS have a badly designed antenna that results in a very weak signal. They found a workaround that helps if you keep A-GPS up-to-date and use Amazfit app and you walk/run close to roads (it smooths the path just like car navigation systems).
I read that calibration of compass helps GTS with GPS, but I do not know how to do that...
Ok, I found how to calibrate the compass, will see at weekend if it helps...
OK, so after the compass calibration the GPS is pretty OK, the difference is around 5%, it counts down the turnings so shows a little bit less. I compared it with Huawei Pro 3 and the result is the same.
I have tested the GPS of the GTS and I have to say that I'm impressed. I've read many bad comments but what I see is actually pretty accurate. I have compared the results with a Garmin Venu and the results (avg pace, distance) are practically de same (probably within error margins). I can definitely say that the GPS accuracy is on par with the Garmin. The only difference worth noting is the instantaneous pace, in the garmin it's more stable but the avg pace are almost the same. I only wished to be able to customize the metrics during a workout, meaning to be able to move the avg pace on the first screen.

Stratos 3 GPS Accuracy

Hi,
I have a Stratos 3 and was expecting a better GPS Accuracy.
Have recently updated it to 4.2.2.1 and it improved but it still takes take some time to lock signal.
Also, after a few experiences, I have noticed that if you start the activity immediately after locking signal the first few minutes will be inaccurate and it is better to wait a few minutes.
Any experiences from anyone else?
What pair are you using?

I have tried GPS + GLONASS and GPS + Galileu so far.
Galileu was accurate after the first 5 minutes only.
i'm expecting the same with my Stratos 3: GPS+ Galileo if start activity immediatly after GPS Fix it needs some minutes more to be accruate (5 min) but after it's perfect (i'm cycling in forest)
I did not try GPS+GLONASS for the moment will do it next time to see if it's better for initial fix and if tracking accruacy is as good as GALILEO

the HR sensor is exactly the same so you know it!
Tks for reply... I think that we need to considering the sw factor as well....
Sad to hear that, I'm using a Pace and thought Stratos 3 as a improvement over GPS accuracy and Heart rate.
Pace is a mixed bag, sometimes it's very good but, even in open areas, sometimes the accuracy show my position on the other side of the street.
Often I experience inaccurate position on the first minutes also.
Let's hope for a software update to increase reliability.
Stratos 3 uses the new HR sensor used in both Verge and GTR/GTS, so it should behave the same. It's a bit bigger and should work better than the ones from Pace and the original Stratos, as it does if I compare my Verge with them. Just don't expect it to be perfect, as any other PPG (optical) sensor.
The same issue with Pace and Stratos (v1). You should always wait 2-5 minutes at the green Go screen before starting activity recording. Also, with Pace, I used to run with Airplane mode for better accuracy, but it looks like in current versions it makes no difference (better accuracy in both cases than early). That way you can avoid GPS inaccuracy. My Stratos 3 is on the way.
Are you on latest firmware? I had mine for a week and updated it the first day. GPS is very good and fixes fast (I returned the GTR because of the GPS being so bad). Maybe your issue could be location related? Like AGPS data related?
@Paxy
Weird. I'm a new Stratos 3 user.
I have no accuracy issue with the GPS (Glonass) and the fix is done in less than 30 sec. Unlike the GTR, I sent back whose GPS was a deep sh.t.
I made 8 cycle workout and it worked very well. I leave near Paris there is buildings (not too high) around me during my
sessions and the recorded track is very good.

Seems pretty accurate. Have you checked through google maps to see if the distance is accurate? Is this the route: https://www.google.ro/maps/dir/48.8...0x47e67b314410fbbb:0x21dd71e67173a3e0!1m0!3e1 ?
@winni21 That's how my GTR cuts corners as well. Stratos 3 seems very good.
Now I'm pretty sure the GTR has faulty hardware for GPS (frame used as shared antenna with bluetooth), since they both have the same gps chipset and will never get fixed through software update.

Compared to Google Maps, the given distance by the Stratos is pretty accurate as I have 9.53km for stratos and 9.6 for GMAPS.
But on my road I have to go in a tunnel for few meters and the GPS signal is lost at this time. On this section the Stratos show a straight line and google map a nice curve. The curve is around 200m, so this part explain partially the 70m missing on the Stratos.

You are wrong. There is the Pace and there is Stratos (in China called SportWatch 2). There is no Stratos2 and Pace is not Stratos1.
My Stratos3 just arrived. It has fast GPS fix, but haven't tested accuracy yet.
I will compare it's accuracy against Pace soon.
BTW. Huami declares only Pace, Stratos and Stratos3 as sport watches. GTR,GTS,Verge etc are just smart watches without GPS in the focus of development.
There is also Stratos+ on Amazfit official web. The problem with the naming comes from resellers giving different names like Startos 2S or Pace 2.
But indeed there are 3 generations of the Amazfit Sports watch (Pace, Stratos/Stratos+ and Startos 3)

It is worth changing the Pace by GTR?

Hi, I'm using the Pace for 2 years, I'm satisfied with it, but the GTR's battery is very attractive.
I'm thinking buy it, but the reviews for GPS accuracy very disappointing.
The problem persists with update firmware or not compens the replace? The GPS from the Pace is very good.
Thanks
It is not worth it, I did the same upgrade. The GPS issue seems more like a hardware/design problem. I returned mine and bought the Stratos 3 instead. Very happy with the change

I love my Pace, the GPS start speedly, it's very accurate, and I compare in runs with Garmin and Polar and is very similar, until in marathons.
The weak point is precisely the battery, using the GPS in average 1h30 per day, I need recharge in each 3 or 4 days, but this is similar in somes Garmin and Polar.
I was very excited when I saw the battery from GTR, but it is very sad that Huami spoiled something that worked very well.
I will wait for a new version.
Thanks
Actually the GTR is not comparable to the Pace. It has Amoled display and it is not always on, also the OS is not Android based but some custom thing much more limited (therefore they can achieve 24days)
The evolution of the Pace was the Stratos 2 and now the Stratos 3. All this have trasflective display which is always on. So if you are looking for an upgrade of the Pace then Stratos 3 was released last month. But don't expect to get anywhere GTR in terms of battery, more like double of what you get with Pace. Plus a faster system, better HR, offline music playing, external Bluetooth devices (main extra features)

So if you are looking for an upgrade of the Pace then Stratos 3 was released last month. But don't expect to get anywhere GTR in terms of battery, more like double of what you get with Pace. Plus a faster system, better HR, offline music playing, external Bluetooth devices (main extra features)

I didn't know about Stratos 3 and was surprised by the specs as I use the watch for sporting purposes.
Does his GPS work correctly?
GPS works quite good. It fixes much faster than my old Pace and it is more stable (the Pace worked good sometimes)

Which Amazfit watch should I buy?

So, I'm interested in a smartwatch mostly for fitness tracking, but my problem is sweat resistance.
I want to buy the stratos but I have heard the new t rex can also fitness track, and be washed easily since it's durable bit. can it sync with Strava though?
My question is which one? Amazfit stratos or T rex? Is the stratos waterproof? How to clean it?
I'm also going to be in the military, should I just buy a g shock apart from a smartwatch or the t rex can do the job?
I want to get the best watch I can.
And if the stratos, does the stratos 3 worth the 50$ more than the 2?
So many questions, wanted to cover them all.
Would love to get some help. Thanks!
Leave out the Stratos 3. Distance, speed and hearth rate are all bad. Speed is very (very very) slow to adjust to your actual speed and the heart rate of my couch is 71 BPM. Heart beat indicates a constant 118Bpm when i'm not wearing it. It won't pair with a Bluetooth 4.0 heart rate belt (and doesn't support ANT+)
However GPS fix is fast and the time is spot on

Don't recommend to buy any of Amazfit smart watch. Better is to choose Samsung's smart watch:
1. Much more better devices
2. Have all features and options which is mentioned, for example: Verge from Amazfit voice assistant is not support all regions and countries, so you will spend money without all features which is in specifications. Samsung giving all what is mentioned in specifications. Believe me to buy Amazfit smart watch is worst decision.
3. Battery of Samsung is related to Amazfit smart watches, also Samsung doing much less software mistakes, bugs as Amazfit.
4. Samsung Health app for Android is much more better as Amazfit. Samsung have even calories counting from wood which you eating, Amazfit counting only by yours activity.
I bought Verge from 2019 February and I understand that I did very big mistake. I thought to buy new Xioami smartphone, but after wearing of Amazfit Verge watch, I understand I have to run away from this company as faster as I can. Device is without advertised features, every update battery draining much more faster as was first day without update. Every update doing mistakes and bugs. Support is terrible. I don't recommend to buy any of watches from Amazfit. By the way I bought now Samsung smartphone in which health app is very impressive, compare to Samsung app Amazfit app is like game for children very poor.
T-Rex should be a good option. I've been using Amazfit watches for a while now, I've not faced any issues. People have had gps issues, but t-rex seems to have solved them. It's very durable and battery life will be much better than any samsung or android wear watches. My bip and gtr has never let me down.
Although you might want to check first if you're allowed smart watches in the military.
I have the stratos 3 and it measurements it took are very very very close to my Bryton cycling computer, paired with heart rate monitor.
You have to wear it reasonably tight to get a good readings.

If you don't see it, it doesn't mean there are not any issues. With Verge was a lot of issues with double tap, weather (twice chines named cities), incorrect sleep, steps tracking and ect. Just one good things is heartrate measure, which is very good in this device. Amazfit support is like talking with wall or they are dumb or just pretending like they are, always asking one, answering different answers. I live in Europe and still havn't many features like: Voice assistant, payment over watch and ect. Which was written and now is advertising as feature in this model. Ran one year I still did not got features which was promised or mentioned from this manufacturer. MY ADVICE: STAY AWAY FROM AMAZFIT. Samsung is much more better, android watches too. You can do in it watch faces which you want, costume it how do you want, much more accurate and ect. Samsung doing bugs even less compare with this China manufacturer. Don't lie to people. Amazfit devices is like crap of ****. Sorry for my language.

While you are right on your part. No samsung or android watch gives weeks of battery life. I cant afford to keep charging my watch everyday. Charging my phone everyday is already a hassle.

Which smart watches from Samsung need to charge everyday?
Samsung Watch Active 2 - https://www.samsung.com/uk/wearables/galaxy-watch-active2-4g/SM-R825FSKABTU/ (Typical Usage Time Over 60 Hours - it's more as 2 days)
Amazfit Stratos 3 - https://en.amazfit.com/stratos-3.html (Smart mode: 7 days )
What is the differnet between these times? Samsung have 4G connection, that's mean that you can go to city without phone and stay tuned into call. Amazfit havn't (in specification is not mentioned 4G), 4G so that's why battery is some days staying longest without charge.
Samsung most watches can be without charge with 5 days, the same as Amazfit. I talking about normal usage without limitation of features activated.
Verge Amazfit saying can be 5 days too, but I have to charge it every 2 - 3 days. So battery is not so good as saying Amazfit. U did not understand me. Most Android watches have much more features as Amazfit even with 4G need to charge often, but if 4G is not available battery without charge can be much more as Amazfit some watches. But quality of Samsung and most Android watches is much more better as this Chinese crap
By the way Amazfit have model with 4G too, battery need to charge more as Samsung Active 2 as I know can be alive about one day. So don't write nonsenses here that Amazfit is better, it's a crap of sh.. not a watch included worst support ever, a lot of bugs and issues in it. STAY AWAY FROM AmAZFIT BELEIVE ME. mY NEXT WATCH WILL BE Samsung, I know that as a phone too.
I've used a Galaxy S9+ paired with a Gear Sport and eventually switched to the Xiaomi Mi 9 Lite paired with the smaller Amazfit GTR. I have seen comparable performance with the following exceptions: Gear Sport has NFC, GTR doesn't, S9+ has wireless charging, Mi 9 Lite doesn't. Battery life is tremendously better on both the Mi 9 Lite and GTR. I have both Samsung devices locked away and really don't have a desire to go back to them anytime soon.
The short answer? Rather than broad dismissal of an entire brand, your mileage may vary. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Do you actually have a T-Rex? I had 3 Amazfit smartwatches: pace, stratos 2, and now a GTR, but the GTR's GPS is terrible, take too long to fix, and its tracking is awful. Now I'm almost buying a T-Rex, but I fear the GPS could have the same GTR problem. Does anybody actually HAVE a T-Rex??
I think the gtr has a design flaw for the GPS? My stratos 3 cets lock in under 10 seconds, pace and bio were alot slower. Would hope the trex is the same
T-Rex looks like having the same components as GTR so I would wait. I can definitely recommend the Stratos 3, the only other watch I would consider is a Garmin Fenix but costs 3x more...

Mine just arrived today. I got it to replace the more dainty 42mm GTR (gave it to my wife). The GTR only took a few seconds (10-15 seconds max) to get a gps fix before running. It has also been pretty reliable in tracking location. If I can remember I'll chime in here in about a week or so to report on whether the T-Rex experience is comparable or better (or, hopefully not, worse).

Is there any update? What do you think so far?
My stratos 3 seems to have died after just 4 months I think I have had it, not impressed last Amazfit product I will buy
People. don't buy at all Amazfit products at all. Support is weak, updates is weak. If they mentioning in trailer of products some feature it doesn't meant that you will get it. So run away from this china company fast and forward. If you want something not expensive, but good. Buy Samsung smartphones, smart watch. They are really much more better, with normal battery life. Also support is not weak as Amazfit, in my national language, I believe is in yours too. So Amazfit is my opinion just fake company which product quality for me wasn't good. I just have one year watch and I had to bring it to service to fix charger and band which broken
Don't buy Stratos (any)
First Stratos 2 bought Mar. 2019. Worked fine one year with small manageable hiccups caused by software issues ... till its battery exploded (literally) damaging case, connectors and screen. Watch was "molded" to charging pod - source of heat was inside the watch, so I assume it was faulty battery. I was lucky as it happened during charging. I initially thought that I was not careful enough with the watch (I used it for swimming - Amazfit is not so water resistant as they claim in marketing materials).
I bought Stratos 3 Mar. 2020 (one year after first one). After 3 weeks (and April Amazfit firmware update) the GPS in the watch is dead. No possibility to fix position in spite of numerous restarts and GPS combination settings. This makes it almost useless for outdoor activities. Watch has no physical damage, this time no swimming. I have enough. This is the last time I purchase anything from Amazfit - post sales support is beyond hope. Several tickets opened. No response or just information that they are working on it (generic) - I just need confirmation whether it is software bug in the new firmware or hardware issues with watch (again). Auto response refers to Chinese New Year break (sic! in April).
I know once you end up on this forum you have already purchased Amazfit or found similar issues with the product. This means that it is too late for any warnings. But if you could spread the news wider I hope your colleagues or friends avoid similar mistake. If you really think about HUAMI use anything that passes real quality control like Mi brand (? so far no similar issues with it). If you want any serious smart watch product I recommend going to any other producer. Thanks!

I have enjoyed the watch. Contrary to the extreme criticisms above, I've had great success using the GPS, heart rate monitor, sleep tracking, and exercise tracking. I only take the watch off to charge it and have worn it in the shower since I received it. If the T-Rex experience is normally bad, I guess mine is an anomaly.
I fully understand that China is taking a hit related to things other than tech, but I cannot hate on this watch. The risk would definitely be support (especially if you don't live in China), but just consider that risk before you buy.

Oh, yeah. Probably the biggest thing that concerned me was that I could not find an aftermarket watch band to fit it, and the manufacturer doesn't sell them separately. I just found one aftermarket band on Amazon, but the shipping has a ridiculous delay.
With HR monitoring on and using GPS several times a week (jogging), my battery lasts about two weeks. I would imagine that if I were a little less active and turned off the constant monitoring I would probably get around three weeks on a charge.
I like wrote before - I did. At last. Finally. My Verge was broken, so I got money back. I decided to buy Samsung, because I have Samsung smartphone and I did not wanted to do the same mistake again. Yes of course Amazfit full in shop in my region devices. But Amazfit is sh.., not a good devices company. Which promising, but not giving. Just words. I bought Samsung Active2 smartwatch. So why it? Verge could be without charger about 2-3 days. After some updates. Active 2 about 2 days. That's maybe one and last good thing in Amazfit verge. All others good things is only on Samsung Active 2: Bixby (working in my region very well. Alexa after one year still wasn't in my Verge. Shame to Amazfit). Apps unlimited probably full shop, Verge even haven't calendar widget in Verge. I can customize my device as I want: change arrow of clock, background, widget and many more. Display is amazing, sunset day it's not problem to me. Stress, heart rate, automatic detecting of my activity like sport (I don't have to activate manually that, Samsung automatic understand when I running, walking and etc.). 24 hours per day sleep tracking, yes that doing Samsung Active 2 and that doing these days very well. Verge did a lot of incorrect trackings, did only at night. Need more? I can swim with my watch now yes it have 5TM. Hear rate is tracking every second, not as every minutes as doing Verge. Aliumin frames, not f...ed plastic. Looks great and is one of the best smartwatch at all probably. My advice RUN FROM AMAZFIT, XIAOMI at all. Chinese products is worst as many others companies. Only maybe Huawei doing something good. All others included Amazfit is crap of s.h.i.t. My advice - throw idea to buy it products at all. Believe me you will be much more happy with others companies smart watch as with Amaz****
p.s. Samsung Health is real health app. Amazfit - is parody of that and very bad parody. Amazfit is one of the worst company which product I had.
