Swift Installer & OTA - Samsung Galaxy S9+ Questions & Answers

Het all, I've just found the swift installer and blacked out all of my GUI and apps like I love! I have a notification for an OTA today and wondering if anybody has any experience with the swift installer active on all modules and updating an OTA. Will it mess up the upgrade? Or do I have to uninstall all the modules first? Just did a backup and I will just go for it I guess.... Never had this customization app before... Just seeing if anyone has any experience with this scenario..

Depends on the update I guess. I had an OTA the other day, forgot to uninstall the overlays, the phone wouldn't boot past the Samsung screen. Had to factory reset. It's recommended to uninstall all overlays before updating.

Ugh, that sucks! Did you attempt to get into safe mode? I made a full smart switch backup and Samsung cloud backup to be safe, hoping if anything went Wong I could get into safe mode and restore....

There is a recovery.bat file you can run from your pc I found out later. It's available on the play store under Swift installer about section. Apparently this will work if you have usb debugging enabled.

It happened to me with the app "SETTINGS" it kept saying "Settings has stopped" and before doing a factory reset, I turned on the Safe mode and uninstalled the layovers. Then everything worked fine.

It is always recommended to uninstall all overlays before installing OTA update.. many times u will get force stop error..

It could cause bootloop, 3rd overlays are difficult to manage, anyway great app Swift Installer, It is perfect if we want different apps with amoled backgrounds ,besides without root.
Someone has proved the app with a custom theme like jajanken, I would like a mix between a custom theme and the potencial that brings Swift Theme. I suppose that is impossible, could cause many forced closes .

i asked the same question on how to remove it without flashing back to stock. I just want to uninstall it. i have asked in several threads with no response...
there must be a way to do this without flashing back to stock....
use root manager's system app uninstaller and remove MobileAP.apk
you can do it with the new task manager in ji6
I tried to uninstall using Root Manager but It didn't work. It only makes Mobile AP useless but still in my wireless setting and I'm having force close problems because of it. I uninstalled the apk. and the data files but no luck.

as long you're rooted, you will not be able to successfully install the ota update. my gf's phone was semi bricked while two of her friend's with non rooted vibrant updated fine.
After removing the MobileAP.apk, try going into recovery and clearing cache.

Dont worry about the APP. I would personally recommend you keep it on your phone. You never know when you might need it. Unless you are running out of space.
Secondly, why are you waiting for Tmobile to push the update to you, when you can just grab a copy in the dev section and install it through ODIN. This way you do not have to worry about stuck at boot up issues that others are complaining about.

and actually its best to remove the mobile AP since i assume the OP is using the JFD version. having the JFD version on JI6 facuses force closes in some areas...esp in brightness settings which is why there are 2 versions for the vibrant

Task manager doesn't handle this. You may remove this via TitaniumBackup if you have it installed.

No, Titanium Backup will pull all your app information, including system info/apps, on the initial start up. So you can install it AFTER the fact and it will still see it.
That being said, I just checked mine and it only shows Mobile AP Settings, I went ahead and Froze it (basically freezing it will remove the program as if it has been uninstalled and disable it even though it is still technically installed) and it won't let me use the AP anymore (it just FC's), but the menu item is still there.
FYI though, the OTA will wipe your current ROM which includes the AP and replace it with stock JI6 so it will remove it for you when you get the OTA.
Now that I have said all that....I used my search-fu for you and found this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=7730798&postcount=84
Don't know if it will work, but it looks promising and is worth a shot. As always, be ready to get out ODIN if it bricks your phone. Good luck.
EDIT: I believe a flashable zip will be the only way to revert the mobile AP because it must be installed with a flashable zip. It isn't an APK like normal as it is actually embedded in the ROM itself. (Thus the built in menu options).

Remove root. Help need please

Hi,
I am rooted on my S3 and all is good. However, my Father also has an S3 and last week he was talked into rooting it by his Grandson. All went well but long story short he was not happy with having a rooted phone so has decided to remove root. He has now done so by following various guides. He used Triangle away which he says went successfully and has used Odin to put the latest stock firmware on the phone which again he says went successfully. I was not there when he did all this but phone seems all good.
Except one thing. He has tried to install a couple of apps he had before rooting. Barclays bank app and Sky Go app. After installation these apps are saying they will not work on a rooted phone, but it's not rooted any more. I have booted into recovery using Volume down, power and home buttons and it says custom firmware / rom, I can't remember exact wording, but it says no. Also in the phone menu where a rooted phone says modified in device status it says normal or whatever it should say. Again can't remember exactly but all looks like no root present.
Anyone got any ideas on this? As I am rooted on my S3 and never un-rooted it yet, I do not know if he should have done something else. Will he have to root again to run triangle away or anything else. Or can this be fixed as the phone is at present?
Thanks for any help guys.
Cheers, Rich

One basic question..are you still able to go into recovery..vol up+power+home..if yes you are still rooted...you need to find your stock firmware and flash it via odin
check if it was a stock firmware your father flashed orcustom ROM o.follow this guide to do it again

Just tried that and the S3 will not go into recovery via volume up, power and home. Tried several times and it just powers up as normal. He has just tried his banking app and it's telling him the phone is rooted. I'm stumped on what to do.

Sounds like maybe triangle away didnt properly remove the count, was the firmware he downloaded the official one for his phone? Was it previously branded or anything like that?
go supersu and click remove root

Hi,
He has superSu on the phone. Presumably it has downloaded from the play store when restoring the phone. However, he tried to uninstall it which just removed the updates. Couldn't go any further. It is now asking for updates which he has done. But when he tries to launch Super SU it says no apps configured and won't go any further. I think the fact that super su is on the phone, the apps are thinking it is rooted. I am doing this all over the phone so can't see what's happening.
I'm wondering if the way to go now would be another factory reset and when restoring everything, try not to let play store instal super su. Would this be the way to go, or can we get super su off the phone without a reset?
Cheers, Rich
Try uninstalling super su with titanium backup. Then factory reset. Are you sure you have flashed a stock ROM and not a rooted one. This doesnt sound right.

Hi,
Trying to do these things with him over the phone ain't easy. I may just go and get the phone and do it myself.
He does have supersu on the phone and it is working, well it's installed anyway but obviously does not do the root things as the phone is un-rooted. There is an option in supersu settings to remove root but will this work as the phone is not rooted? Question is how on earth do I remove supersu. Do i need to re-root and remove it that way?
Cheers, Rich

This works very well for me

Flash stopped working (ICS stock unrooted)

Flash on my gf's Note abruptly stopped working after weeks without problems.
Things I tried: I tried the stock and dolphin browser, and just got the plug-in cube. Starting the flash plugin settings app brought me to a full page webpage with the same plugin block. Rebooted. I tried clearing the flash plugin cache/data, there was none to clear. Tried uninstalling (it was 11.1 or something, I don't remember), but it errored while uninstalling. It's still there, the box is gone on webpages but no flash area. Flash settings app doesn't do anything. The only option in app info is disable. And nothing available on the play store.
Any ideas what to do next?

Ok, first things first, Adobe no longer supports Flash on Android devices, as such link on Google Market has been removed. Not sure if that caused an auto-unitstall as XDA is not littered with complaints about that happening. Good news is it can be fixed, as still working my rooted running custom ROM, just need to get you there.
1. Download attached and place on SD where YOU can find it.
2. Ensure Unknown Sources is enabled, if I have to tell you how, than leave things alone.
3. Install Adobe Flash.
4. In Dolphin settings Flash Player is always on.
5. Try some Flash videos and see what happens.
Let me know how it turns out, don't think we need too, but could always mimick my root/custom ROM to get her up and running.

Nope can do that on non-rooted devices plus factory reset is last option. He states only having issues with Flash not the whole phone.

Fixing permissions usually solves that problem barring that a full wipe and start again.

As I got the official update, I lost the root, I tried to clear the cache and as I've seen that is not working and the phone was freezing each 5 seconds I got a bit scared to start rooting it. I wiped it, installed my apps and now everything is ok. However, it's weird that I didn't got the apps automatically installed like it's happened last time when Amazon replaced my S3 for some screen issues (some scratches inside the screen). I just added my google account and everything started installing automatically. Not this time...
just downloaded jelly bean tonight and having this issue. has anyone come up with a solution that does not involve a full hardware restart???
Had same problem after I updated 3 months ago. I think was an incompatibility with an app or something has not updated completely. Fixed it with factory reset.
You can backup apps with Samsung Kies I think if you don't want to lose progress in games, the other stuff is automatically synced

[Q] Problem with OTA update

I'm having an issue with my OTA software update. I can download the update, but when it gets to the installation process, it just reboots into download mode. Currently running VRUAME7.
I had SafeStrap and root, but got rid of both of them, thinking that might be causing the problem. Still happening though. Any suggestions?
Did you reinstall any bloatware you and removed? Also when you removed SS did you remove it completely or just uninstall it? I had to remove it completely in order for update to take. Also if you want to keep root there is a thread that shows the way to do it. If not it should be as simple as plugging into PC running Kies and then doing a emergency recovery. Then the update will take without any issues. Hope this helps.

I never removed any bloatware. Only rooted so I could use Xposed Framework. I think I removed SS completely - the uninstall option in the app wouldn't work, so I removed it manually with terminal commands, and the SS splash screen no longer shows during boot. Also uninstalled the app for good measure. I'll try the Kies trick.

Here's something interesting: after a deeper look, it says the update failed and gave and Error Code of 410. Anybody know what that means?
From what I can tell error 410 and 404 both mean that a needed resource is gone or removed and cannot be found

You don't need to uninstall it. Just run the Xposed Installer, and click "Uninstall (restore app_process)".
That'll restore the altered file.
Hopefully you'll keep root through the update (I didn't) and can reinstall after the update completes.
