Reading files from OTG thumb drive - Samsung Galaxy Tab S3 Questions & Answers

I can retrieve a list of files on an attached OTG thumb drive, but cannot access any of the files. I copied a program on a CD from my desktop to the thumb drive, and the desktop runs the thumb drive ok, but my Tab s3 cannot do anything but show a list of the files. What am I missing?

[Q] USB seems to link to mystery area on tablet

When I hook my tablet up to the PC via USB, I get a drive letter in Windows. When I open that drive, there are files in there- however, I can't find where these files are on the tablet when I look there. There are folders in the PC view like Android, data, DCIM, Download, kindle, LOST.DIR, media, and .android_Secure and .HuffPost. However, these are not folders on my SD card (which would be /sdcard2) or my internal /SDcard folder. I've tried hunting and pecking through the tablet file structure and doing searches on the files in the folders, but I can't find where the location I see on the PC is on the tablet.
Any help? Big thanks in advance. I successfully rooted the tablet using the TNT_Lite ROM, and haven't noticed any other problems.
debug mode....
I've found the same...sort of. Sometime I get that it is in debug mode and I can't access file, and other times it does mount fine and I can access the files.
It's not that. When USB Debugging is on, I can't see the tablet in Windows.
Just to ask while waiting for a better answer- when everyone here connects their G tablet via USB to their PC, what area do they connect to?
Not sure if this is any different from Vegan's setup but I'm assuming it isn't.
The files and folders you listed when you connect your tablet to your pc via usb are in the "/sdcard" directory. On vegan tab at least, it is set up so that your internal memory (the 16 gb or whatever it is that is built into the tablet) is accessed through the folder /sdcard. What you may be confusing this with is either the /sdcard2, which would be an external microsd card, or the root ("/") directory of your tablet.
All of You,

[Q] Transferring files from jump drive to tablet

I'm currently running vegan v1.0.0B5.1 Kernal verson is 2.6.32.9-dirty. This was done before I purchased my GTab by a tech guy on Amazon. Tablet is runni ng great but I can't for the life of me figure out how to transfer files from my 2gig thumb drive to the damn thing.
I'm no real techie.
Plug your usb into the tablets slot, open up root explorer or any other file manger, go to the folder usbdisk, locate your folders or files, long press & either choose move or copy & place them in the folder called sdcard (*internal) or sdcard2 (*external).
There are other ways to get your files onto your tablet but since you asked specifically about a usb flash drive, I'll stick with that.
You should make sure that USB Debugging is NOT checked. Go to Settings>Applications>Development to check on it. If it is checked (enabled) it will not find your USB drive.
I was having problems with it recognizing my thumb drive, and that was the problem. Found that after I unchecked USB Debugging I still had to reboot, then all was well.

[Q] Downloading Files Directly to Thumb Drive

Have an unrooted 10.1, Bought the USB Adapter and all is well. One question I cannot find the answer to: How do I go about downloading a file using the 10.1 and have the download go DIRECTLY to the thumb drive which I have attached to the USB Adapter? Is there a download setting on the 10.1 that I am missing? So far I can download files, but they go only to the 10.1 internal memory, and even then I don't know how to move them from there to the thumb drive. I would like to download a file directly to my thumb drive so I can give the thumb drive to a client, or in the alternative, move a downloaded file from the 10.1 internal memory to the thumb drive so I can do the same.
Thanks for your assistance!

I'd like to know the answer to this too. My USB adapter is coming today in the mail.
Just got off the phone with Samsung. Was told as of now, there is no way to save downloads directly to a thumb drive. The only other option I can think of is to download a file to the 10.1, and share it with Dropbox. Is there a rooted solution to my question or is dropbox going to be as good as it gets? Thanks again.

Use a file manager such as ASTRO to copy the file after downloading.
I was going to say use ASTRO file manager as well. Though I do know that the 3.2 XOOM update is still read only on the SDCard reader. Don't know for sure if this is the case for the Galaxy Tab though.
In ASTRO:
Navigate to
1 the SDcard
2 Downloads folder
3 long press file you want to move
4 select edit
5 select either copy or move
then navigate to the thumb drive and long press and select paste.
There is also a bluetooth method you can purchase through the market so you can send files directly to their phone(if they have the capabilities).
Here is the market link

[Q] usb host

Is it possible to mount 2 usb drives simultaneously in android thru a hub? I have a nook color
(my sons) that runs cm7. I use nook tweaks to enable usb host and have a home made otg adapter. I can mount one drive (sandisk cruzer 8GB) thru a hub along with a keyboard and mouse.
I think i'm on the right track but i'm lost. I think I need to make a second mount point in mnt. I tried making another folder called usbdisk2 but i don't know what else needs to be done. I read somewhere about making a symlink.
The reason I want to mount 2 drives is so I can copy files from one to the other instead of mounting one drive, copy from the drive to the nook, then mounting the second drive and copying from the nook to the second drive.

[Q] Using phone as a iso reader

Guys I searched in forums and I couldn't find a good thread (except mikob2d's thread)
You know when you disable usb debugging and then pluging usb cable and mount, Pc shows internal sd, external sd also a cdrom image. I know we can change internal external mounts but is there a way to change cdrom image? I've a ultrabook which hasn't got a optical drive, but it can mount sd cards also the cdrom image when I plugged my phone. I want to use my phone as a cdrom. If any developers interested, I want to help too.
Think about an app which selects iso files and then when you plug you phone via usb, pc saw phone's sd cards and also that chosen iso file as a cdrom.
Thank you for reading, I check my messages everyday.
You can mount isos to a virtual optical drive within Windows with various apps, I use Virtual CloneDrive:
http://www.slysoft.com/en/virtual-clonedrive.html
I'm not sure why you would want to do this from Android, seems like it would be more of a pain to have to transfer the iso file over.
Dude I know daemon methods but our phones can do this, And also you can't use Operating System based virtualization methods. Thus I need a external solution which can be a external optic drive but hey, our phones alredy does that. Just a little script can make the magic. also USB transfer speeds are low but sdcard transfer speeds are quite faster. Also this is a poweruser level request.
If I am right the cd image includes software drivers for the phone in that case you could find the file (which I am assuming is a image file) on the phone that it is using then replace it with a symlink to your cd image.
To figure out which file I would use a terminal to check the output of "lsof" when it is mounted on your computer to see possible filenames.

That's what I'm saying. I can find it easily but I was thinking can I change the mount script. A little program which chooses the iso files from sdcard and mounts these isos instead of manifacturer's driver iso.
