Have an unrooted 10.1, Bought the USB Adapter and all is well. One question I cannot find the answer to: How do I go about downloading a file using the 10.1 and have the download go DIRECTLY to the thumb drive which I have attached to the USB Adapter? Is there a download setting on the 10.1 that I am missing? So far I can download files, but they go only to the 10.1 internal memory, and even then I don't know how to move them from there to the thumb drive. I would like to download a file directly to my thumb drive so I can give the thumb drive to a client, or in the alternative, move a downloaded file from the 10.1 internal memory to the thumb drive so I can do the same.
Thanks for your assistance!

I'd like to know the answer to this too. My USB adapter is coming today in the mail.
Just got off the phone with Samsung. Was told as of now, there is no way to save downloads directly to a thumb drive. The only other option I can think of is to download a file to the 10.1, and share it with Dropbox. Is there a rooted solution to my question or is dropbox going to be as good as it gets? Thanks again.

Use a file manager such as ASTRO to copy the file after downloading.
I was going to say use ASTRO file manager as well. Though I do know that the 3.2 XOOM update is still read only on the SDCard reader. Don't know for sure if this is the case for the Galaxy Tab though.
In ASTRO:
Navigate to
1 the SDcard
2 Downloads folder
3 long press file you want to move
4 select edit
5 select either copy or move
then navigate to the thumb drive and long press and select paste.
There is also a bluetooth method you can purchase through the market so you can send files directly to their phone(if they have the capabilities).
Here is the market link

I'm using the Samsung Galaxy S T959 2.1 of TMobile
I have installed on my computer samsung drivers for mobile and Kies.
My computer is using Win 7 32-bit
Everyday, I plug the cable into my PC and choose Mount, after that I copy data from PC to Samsung normally
Today, when the cable attached to the PC, then select Mount, also appears that 2 drives H & I but I can't copy data to SamSung. When I copied, the PC alert :
Copying
Discovering items.....
Time remain : Calculating
Data Transfer : Calculating
How then is run from morning to noon without the copy is complete, although I only have a 1MB image file. Reset your computer and the SS, but still the same error.
So my computer is corrupted or SS that you failed? I try to connect your computer with the N95, the copy machine is normal.
please help me how to I can copy data normally ?
i had a problem copying files to my vibrant, I formated my internal 16gb memory and it fixed the problem.
i think its
settings>sd phone storage>format.
I would uninstall kies. I never use it. After you do that plug in the phone and you should then use the top pull down menu and it will have a connect usb icon and button. hit that it will then say connected and it will open 2 folders F and G or something like that one is the internal sd and the other is the external And do what the posting said format the external sd card if it is new or you have not yet. you can do it on the computer it would be fat-32 ONLY
If you have wifi you can use the app Wifi File Explorer. Costs about $1 for the Pro version. I use it all the time for transferring files. Very easy and works great. You access your phones storage using your PC web browser. No cables, no problems.

Thanks! I just tried that App. It works great. It doesn't seem to see my MicroSD card though, only the internal memory shows up (on my Vibrant).......unless I am missing something.

Shows up on mine. Look for the sd folder. If you see "Up To Parent Directory" at the top of the directory list click on it because you're not at the root directory level. From root you should see sd/.
I'm currently running vegan v1.0.0B5.1 Kernal verson is 2.6.32.9-dirty. This was done before I purchased my GTab by a tech guy on Amazon. Tablet is runni ng great but I can't for the life of me figure out how to transfer files from my 2gig thumb drive to the damn thing.
I'm no real techie.
Plug your usb into the tablets slot, open up root explorer or any other file manger, go to the folder usbdisk, locate your folders or files, long press & either choose move or copy & place them in the folder called sdcard (*internal) or sdcard2 (*external).
There are other ways to get your files onto your tablet but since you asked specifically about a usb flash drive, I'll stick with that.
You should make sure that USB Debugging is NOT checked. Go to Settings>Applications>Development to check on it. If it is checked (enabled) it will not find your USB drive.
I was having problems with it recognizing my thumb drive, and that was the problem. Found that after I unchecked USB Debugging I still had to reboot, then all was well.
I have a Samsung Galaxy 10.1 running honeycomb 3.1 that I recently purchased the USB adapter for. I have a 250GB external hard drive formatted in FAT with its own power supply, however when it is connected to my tablet android recognizes the hard drive but none of the several file reading apps I have tried recognize it. Any ideas?
Thanks.
i guess the adaptor could only read up to 32GB of space and it should be fat32 so I can tell u to try to partition ur hard drive to 32GB parts its annoying I know but its better than nth wish this helps... I want to try so after I finish my vacation so u can try and report back..
Edit : some say they got the 1TB to work by making sure its a USB cable virgin 2.0 u can read more here

Hi i had the same problem with my external hard drive.
Every time i connected the drive it to say a usb device was connected and then attempt to open the mY files file manger. I would brefily see the file stored on my drive and then i would get the the usb device was unexpectedly disconnected.
heres how i over came that problem.
1) plug the external hard drive SG 10.1. usb device was unexpectly removed error will be displayed.
2) turn off the SG 10.1. do not unplug your external hard drive
3) turn on the Sg 10.1
4) open my files file manger and all your files should now be displayed in
storages/usb/sda
have fun it would appear there is some bug in my files or the mounting of the external hard drive but this is beyond me.
hope someone can fix this.
BTW.
I am running my sg 10.1 unrooted with stock firmware and touchwiz
I can retrieve a list of files on an attached OTG thumb drive, but cannot access any of the files. I copied a program on a CD from my desktop to the thumb drive, and the desktop runs the thumb drive ok, but my Tab s3 cannot do anything but show a list of the files. What am I missing?

NTFS support.
Always gives me the message "wrong folder selected - choose the top level folder of the SD card". I have set the default USB action to be file transfer. Anyone else have this issue - and maybe suggest a solution ? No problem copying from the USB drive to the internal storage. I have never had an issue transferring files to and from a usb thumb drive on any android device before. Makes me a little crazy.
You can try some third party explorer apps. I' m using solid explorer which work fine on my pixel 6.
This is clearly a problem with whatever app you're using to copy the files.

Are you using the Google Files app, by chance? I had the same issue. If so, I'd encourage you to submit feedback through the app to make sure they are aware of the issue.
