Which kernel would you recommend? - Xiaomi Poco F1 Questions & Answers

Hi there!
I'm planning to install a kernel on the phone. I'm mostly using social media apps (Facebook, Messenger, Instagram, Snapchat) and I prefer battery life over performance, so if someone has any experience with the kernels available here, I'd be very happy if you would let me know!

stock kernel
Sent from my [device_name] using XDA-Developers Legacy app

Sphinx 1.7 seems to be very good balance between battery and performance, maybe u can tweak it a bit to get better battery.
Great kernel fromban awesome dev

For LineageOS 16.0
Sphinx or Derp?

SphinX 1.8.7 so far is the best
22/11/2018

just stock kernel dude
powersaving mode
set big cpu off x2 on x2
set low cpu on x4
1hours only 10%
so 100% to 10% 10h

Franco kernel vs sphinx kernel

I was looking to flash a new kernel for my poco f1.
I search for a bit and find out that people consider those 2 the best one out there
Can someone explain me which one is better and why?
Sphinx has better performance but runs hotter than Franco this is because Sphinxes clocks are higher.
Franco has lower clocks so you will see minor stutters in games but it is clocked lower than stock. While only francos gpu is overclocked.
Both are stable in all applications no crashing.
it's not overclocked on franco. and it's a bad idea to overclock when it throttles anyway at load. it will make things worse. you could actually get better performance if you underclock...

so in your opinion which one is better for battery life?
I'LL go for franco anytime.. of the day.. both are superb in performance.. but im getting longer battery life with franco.
Franco is a great developer, buy he doenst use f1, just develop for it. Sphynx is an f1 user and his kernel is better polished, i have better battey with it. But there are lots of good kernels here, now im using shadow kernel, it is very good too
kernels don't really matter for battery life. unless using drivers with issues, which isn't a problem on a poco.
if you're using miui, debloat services and processes that constantly report to miui and wake your device.
limit apps push notification and background access. disable sync of non essential services.
personally i don't believe in using battery saving profiles and tweaks like LKT and messing with CPU governers and I/O scheds, but you can experiment with those if you need more battery at the expense of performance.
also try to optimize battery for any service/app you don't need realtime sync for (or don't need it to stay running in background). can also try the google play services gms doze module.
use adblocking browser like Bromite / hosts file to prevent ads from loading will also help battery times.
all of these have far greater effect on battery than kernel level tweaks or differences.
To be honest, the kernels I love are not the two. I actually use Shadow and Twisted Prime. I am currently using Twisted's kernel because, in my use-case, it actually provided me with better performance and overall battery. However, Shadow kernel is also good because you can add tweaks that will make it even better.
After being with franco kernel for quite a while.. im.now.trying the MALAKAS or MLX kernel.. and im telling you bro.. this one's damn smooth and effficient too.. wow. Just wow..

Lol are you in dreams ?
Franco is the most power hungry kernel.
Evel the stock is better than it.
Without using any underclocking.
And after underclocking it gets like 2+ minutes in battery life and makes the phone's performance ****

Just wanna report that Twisted is the most balanced kernel that I've tried.

Sphinx kernel has a better performance than Franco, but the device will be hotter. If you're in a tropical country, the temperature may stay between 40°C-45°C in Sphinx. Franco saves a lot more battery, also low temperature, but I don't like the performance in games, but it is better than the stock kernel.

What is this? Some sort of competition? Ask your question in a more appropriate way whether you want better performance or better battery life. Both kernel serves different purpose.

That's quite the opposite. Francisco owns a Poco F1. Infact he was provided the unit by Xiaomi, afaik. On the other hand, Michael doesn't have a Poco F1. He owns a Dipper (Mi8) which share similar hardware and software with Poco F1.

ROM for battery life and where is the debloated MIUI rom?

Hello,
I'm looking for a rom and a good kernel that is very good on battery life. Also I want to try out the debloated MIUI. Where can I find it?
And is it true that the MIUI rom is the best for battery life?
try Xiaomi Eu rom ,with notification mod and restricted every app that you don't need so much. you might wanna clean rom more ,use lucky patcher and cleaned the rom. i did it my self.. trust me much better..
I am myself testing with Pixel Experience and the LKT magisk module. so far 2h of screen on time with only 20% battery drain, so i'd expect 8 to 10 hours of SoT just like that.
I've also heard malakas kernel has superceded Sphynx/FrancoKernel as the most battery friendly kernel you can install, but i have not tested that.
In the past, xiaomi.eu has given me better battery life than lineage/phh-treble in previous devices ( Mi MAX 3 ) so maybe combining xiaomi.eu + malakas kernel + lkt and maybe disabling half of your cores would give you a lot more SoT. I'll definitely post my findings in a few weeks on the SoT thread after i compare my current setup vs what i've just proposed.

zero ads in apps, advanced reboot menu, dark mode , zero miui bloatware yeah far better..
so what i did is i removed every useless app that I don't use, i removed stock file manager, music, video player, removed stock YouTube,i added solid explore, pwramp,mx video player in system and via browser and vanced YouTube ...black themed ..

At 299 euros, it's cheaper than getting, let's say, the BQ Aquaris X2 or the Zenfone Max Pro M2 for some unholy reason. and as a glorified Discord machine and music player... 2 high perf cores and 2 low perf cores are more than enough. and i get a battery boost on top of that!

There is this app called Naptime from the author of Franco Kernel that forces doze no matter what as soon as your screen goes off. so that should also help with miui rom sleep delays.
as for running themn on a lower frequency, i've found that chrome loves crash (locking the whole system up with it) if i make them go slow enough, so disabling half the cores at the stock speed seems to be doing the trick for me. Maybe both can be done within reason for some extra gains though
i think you should use revo os or miuipro. And uninstall apps magisk module terminal debloater or es file explorer.I am used pocof1 basic debloat.xml import terminal debloater and after other apps opened system apps and priv apps es file explorer andddddd delete folders

Considering deep sleep, would it be beneficial to go with NOS and Malakas kernel for even better battery? I mean there should be less bloatware and deep sleep could be less of a problem.

Can't decide between kernels

So yeah as the title says I can't decide between Sesh 69hz and Optimus drunk, currently using Evolve X no other custom kernel. I'm looking for best performance and battery life
i'd suggest NGK if you are in need of both battery backup and performance

Sesh is definitely designed for gamers and who love performance i m also using this kernel and yes this kernel not for who don't play games on mobile and want more battery. NGK is balanced which give u decent performance as well as good battery backup and optimus drunk is beast if u want more SOT this is my review after using these kernels and may be differ from other because everyone using their device differently and my device also 1 and half year old. So results are not same for everyone.
I agree with NG and Drunk kernels for SOT but for andro 10 there are some od changes and seems that, for me, Miui 11 with andro 10 stock gives such a good SOT that is maybe even better then other custom ones.
Malakas had awesome development but i do not know what happened to him. If anyone knows please say it.
Also a side question - How do i boost screen colours like Malakas had in his kernel?

Installed NGK in the end and for battery life on balanced is a fu**ing beast with stock miui at work i would lose about 25%-30% with heavy reddit usage and some cod mobile here and there but now it doesnt drop below 89%

Which 9/10 ROM?

Hi guys,
I've got 2x 32GB Note 4's in the family and I want to take the unofficial jump from 7.0 (MIUI 11) to one of the very many, current, custom ROM's posted here...
My question is which one? There are loads
Stability is my primary concern - not that fussed about all the 'whistles and bells,' just stability.
Thanks.
Pixel Experience Plus Edition.
It is well maintained, updated and STABLE.
https://download.pixelexperience.org/mido
I use Servicely and Naptime from the Play Store to reduce battery usage when on standby.
Ideally you can also underclock the kernel using FK Manager, our phone runs normal stock at around 2000mhz when at max speed but I underclocked to 1400mhz and haven't had any slowdowns or stuttering.
If I do play a game, I use stock speeds or set a gaming profile.
9.0 lineage (official but support ended)
10.0 atom rom

I want to try PE out, bUt is there any fix for goodix FP?
Thanks people! Are there any guides going for how to flash a non-gen ROM? I see a lot of mentions of "Wipe System, Data, Dalvik, Cache" . Then having to manually install GApps/Magisk etc.
Thanks.

Just pick one that is often updated so you are not too far back on security updates. Other than that all AOSP based roms are kind of the same with some minor differences in built in customization.

MIUI 11/12 with Custom Kernel vs Custom ROM with/without Custom Kernel

Hello!
I have a question, it's so simple just like the topic titles.
Anyone who use or maybe experiencing. Can you tell me which one really suits your need? Maybe MIUI 11/12 with Custom Kernel on Gaming or just some daily social media use on Custom ROM and Kernel.
I want to gather people opinions here.
So, please reply! [emoji4]

I tried custom roms and they lack camera quality and have some bugs (portrait mode not working except for human faces only), Also if you have dual sim you can't disable any of them (only way is to remove the sim you want to disable),
No I'm on stock rooted with custom kernel and I have great performance and great battery backup and also improved sound with no bugs

With stock MIUI Yes
I've been using de-bloated MIUI 11 (Locked Bootloader) since long. Its been working quite nicely.
But lately the battery life has really been degraded over time.
-So i was thinking to flash NGK on MIUI , & would really love to know your @magaedy review regarding the battery life, issues & stability.
- Also after flashing the custom kernel, i would not be able to install MIUI OTA updates, or there's a workaround

OTA is still working but you will repeat root and recovery steps after each ota
For performance and battery they are excellent both of them with no tiny issue
