Car Charger that can keep up - LG G Pad X 8.0 Questions & Answers

I am using this for car navigation. However, the car charger I have (a 2.1A one) cannot keep up with the screen near full brightness + GPS Navigation.
The car charger is certainly capable of outputting the power, but the tablet is not drawing the power.

Car cradle with additional battery charger?

I need a way of charging a battery without it being in the phone while in the car - are there any options for me?
I have not seen a car cradle with a battery charger slot but I have used a car invertor to supply power to my desktop cradle and charge a second battery on the odd occasion I need it.
The invertor simply take the 12 V DC from the car and inverts it to a 240v AC signal. The unit has a cig lighter socket on one end and a general purpose outlet socket on the other into which I plug the desktop charger AC adapter.
In you case (USA) you would only need a 110v unit. I paid A$50 for mine and use it to charge my notebbok etc. on those extended trips away from an AC socket.
Others may have alternative solutions for you.

You can also get a smaller, simpler device which goes into the cigarette lighter socket in the car and converts the 12v output to the required 5v input for the XDA.

Non car charger for gps

I have a Bluetooth GPS which I can't charge as the charger I got is for a cigarette lighter. My pride and joy (1997 1.3i mini cooper, old style) doesn't have a cigarette lighter socket.
Is there somewhere that you can get something to charge the bluetooth gps that doesn't involve the cigarette lighter. Any suggestions?
What kind of voltage does the charger output? just straight 12v or does it step it down to 5v?
If it's 12v you should easily be able to find a source inside the dash for an always-on/switched-on 12v.
Not sure. It was the bluetooth gps which came with copilot when I got my Vario II.
However I'm not wanting to modify my car to cope with the charger, I don't ususally go on long journeys so having a charger which could charge from the mains it would make my life a lot easier.
In future I may look into the modification of the car, but I still think its excessive for the amount I'd use it.

[Q] Atrix Car dock charging problem?

I believe that there is an issue with charging performance in the Atrix car dock. I'm using the OEM Motorola ECOMOTO Rapid Rate vehicle power adapter (850 mAH) with dual USB ports. You can tell this USB charger is a good product just by the weight of the thing! A test charge in the Atrix car dock began at 7:45 AM and the phone's charge was 20%. At 9 AM 30% and 10:30 AM 40%. This is obviously nothing like the wall charger so it made me believe that the phone was powered by the charger while docked but only receiving a trickle charge. Connecting the phone directly to the USB car charger (without the car dock) using a stock USB to micro USB charging cable, at 8:00 AM the phone was at 20%, 8:20 AM 40%, 9:00 AM 70% and 10:00 AM 100%. What a contrast!! So it appears that there is an issue with charging performance while in the car dock. I've reported this to Motorola and hope that they can reproduce and address. How about the rest of you, what say you all?
Mine charges fine. I have the moto - 2usb port charger and it powers the phone in the dock just fine (mine is Y shaped and ships with the MotoBranded car dock, not AT&T).
Mine charges just like the wall charger - both put out 850mA. If I am running Nav in the car dock, and screen is on, it charges slower - but this is to be expected.

I find when driving around during the day with the screen always on, taking the occasional call and GPS/Navigation running most of the time (not sure, just love seeing my KM/H sitting up there helps keep my heavy right foot off the go pedal) that my battery slowly slinks up in % almost like it's not charging due to the load I have on it.
old thread but..
Hello
I know its old thread and no one is interested anymore but I found out that Atrix is giving power back to the vehicle when connected to the car dock.
I have a Cigar lighter slot hub with an LED indicator. The LED remains glowing when I turn off my car and leave Atrix in the Car Dock. I found out that ACC are having power until Atrix battery is empty.
Even if I unplug the HUB from the car, LED remains glowing, but battery drain seems not that high than connected to the car.
Once I remove the Atrix and put it back, LED is not glowing again, so I think it has something to do with the Car Dock and the Atrix software. (not sure)
I'm trying to make a work around with relay...

Car charger switching on and off or discharging

Using 5V car adaptor similar to linked and info below, my SGS2 pings on saying its charging, then a few moments later it pings off doing this constantly, also I have tried other universal car chargers and they simply wont charge my SGS2, in fact when I am using google maps or other navigation it almost seems like its discharging, never had this before with any of my smartphones, what am I doing wrong?

Input Voltage: 12V-24V DC
Output Voltage: 5V+-5% DC
Max: 500mA
My SGSII charges fine from the car charger.
I have only had one car charger for my SGSII, it is also the the same one I used for my HTC HD2. I have had no problem with it charging my phones.
It is a Belkin USB Car Charger - * HERE * is an example and a price for it, but do shop around. I like it because it barely sticks out of the socket.
The only thing I do is never connect it till the car has started. The reason is that on holiday in a hired car, an electrical spike in another car charger damaged the USB controller in my HTC Diamond.

Faster charging

I've noticed that it charges very slowly. I no longer have the original charger. I've been using it as a car navigation unit so I need to be able to use a car charger. When running navigation, connected to Bluetooth, fill brightness, the charger cannot keep up and I lose about 5-10% per hour.
Over time, I eventually deplete the battery and must take it out of the car to get a full charge.
My charger has dual other. One is qc3.0 which is not supported invite and the other just says 2.4A which seems pretty high
