Updates on Stock Tablet? - Huawei MediaPad M5 Questions & Answers

I have read most of these posts, but I have not seen what my question is in the title. I have also read where certain updates are not good.
Where can I find a list of the stock Huawei updates and what the updates change?

You read a lot of threads? I don't think so.
Google...and search firmware Finder Huawei...

Software finder from the app store only finds ota-software. You cannot do anything with these files.

But u can check the Changelog.
it was only asked where you can see updates and changes.
It was not explicitly asked for whole Stock ROM.
?

I found some updates using the above post, but they do not show what changes the updates will do?

One Max new OTA update in Taiwan (OTA_T6_UL_L50_SENSE60_MR_hTC_Asia_TW_4.12.709.7)

This is the new OTA released in Taiwan. After update, the software version become 4.14.709.10.
Base on the description, it is "Google bug fix".
After testing with the "Stagefright Detector" on the market, it seems except CVE-2015-3864, all other Stagefright issues been resolved.
I also noticed that the free RAM is larger than before (after clean boot, I have >900M free RAM, after everything is setup, I have >750M, comparing to 650M before.)
The OTA is here.
https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B7WWMncQJaKEVzFlR1FMaEVsT2M/view?usp=sharing
Just now checked. In Malaysia.
Will this work on all variants? I have Sprint. Please advise. Thanks
I don't think anyone could answer this unless someone tried. I suggest you can unzip the OTA and see what's inside and decide yourself.
Of course, to flash this on your CID, you may need to Change your CID to what is matched in the file or super CID. Search the forum for instructions, it's very easy to find.
My idea is this should be compatible with all One Max since it is mainly fix the Google Bug. However, I am not responsible for what you do on your phone....
Since someone received this also in Malaysia, you may also request the OTA and compare with my Taiwan OTA . If everything identical (except for the update script) then I think it's high chance it will work for you.
Anyway, backup before you try!

Xperia Z Ultra: New software is available (v. 14.6.A.1.216 )

I had this emailed to me 2 days ago and nothing has come through
Xperia Z Ultra: New software is available
There is a software update (v. 14.6.A.1.216) available for your device. Update your device's software and enjoy new features, better performance, speed and bug fixes. You can update the software today using your computer or wait until it’s available directly in your device (often within a couple of days). It's easy and no backup is needed.
Anybody else have this or getting the update.
Yes, most of us have gotten the update. You can either choose to wait for it, or you can manually download the FTF and flash it with Flashtool. Check out the dev section or download Xperifirm.

I think it is best to look at the forum posts first before posting a question like this, to avoid unnecessarily cluttering the forum. For one thing, the question should be asked in the Q&A forum and secondly there are at least 2 posts in the general forum on the very first page with "14.6.A.1.216" in the title.

Some questions concerning firmware finder

Hi. I'm thinking of trying firmware finder to update my phone. It does not look difficult to use. I'm currently on ALP-L29 8.0.0.119(C636) and the newest version is ALP-L29 8.0.0.126(C636). Before I try I was wondering if someone could provide a change log to see if there are significant enough changes to make it worthwhile. Also I see two versions that are available of ALP-L29 8.0.0.126(C636). One is a full version and the second is about 1/4 the size. Presumable I should go with the full version. Also, can I go directly to the full version or should I go up incrementally. For example there is a 8.0.0.125 version. Should I start with that one. Then up to 126? Also is data preserved if I update? Thanks and any comments on experiences would be appreciated!
EDIT: Just a brief update. It looks like version ALP-L29 8.0.0.125(C636) has been pulled. Also, Firmware Finder does give you the change log (see post 4 in this thread for ALP-L29 8.0.0.126(C636) change log).
EDIT 2: According to Firmware Finder, although listed, the version ALP-L29 8.0.0.126(C636) is not yet approved for installation. Have to be patient!

Data is preserved no problem but have you checked if either version is available for your phone? Huawei signs off each firmware update and releases each update in batches

Hello there, I think you should go immediately with the full version instead of stepping up incrementally. As for change logs, i'm afraid that isn't really available or it will be rather generic. I haven't tried updating with FF yet but it's something that I'm considering if my OTA takes a lot longer to arrive. Having said that, i'm on BLA-L29 .119 (C636) too and I hardly encounter any bugs in my daily usage so I'm not in that much of a rush to update either. Yes, data is preserved.

I didn't realize it at the time I started this thread but Firmware Finder does give you the change log. Also the version ALP-L29 8.0.0.125(C636) has been pulled so the only option on Firmware Finder now is to go to 126. The update seems a little incremental but might be worth doing. I'm actually quite happy with Mate 10 but it would be nice if features like wifi calling, voip and VoLTE are added at some point
There is now a ALP-L29 8.0.0.128(C636) for our devices. I'll probably wait for FunkyHuawei to get this update since I have credit and install it tonight

Android official OTA packages from other sites safe or not.

Hi , I had a motorola g5s plus with android 7.1 for a long time , just before the official release of android 8.1 for the device in my country i downloaded a rom from a youtube link for my device it was titled as official rom .( it said it was a rom from country which the offical updates were released few days before in my country).
Instructions to install the rom were fairly simple , i just had to grant the updater the permission to access storage in my phone then paste the rom into the internal storage of my device and then normally go check in the updater of my device and it showed updates available .
so i did everything, updates were installed normally and never actually experienced any bug whatsoever . Also i regularly got security updates from lenovo/motorola through OTA.
FYI - i never rooted or unlocked my device's bootloader it was completely stock device .
My question is are there chances that the rom i installed from an unknown source might be hampered? or cracked in someway it is completely safe to use my phone?
this may be a silly question , i am sorry if it is but i really know very less about these things , please guide me. thank you in advanced.
@Dante18 Give the Link to the YouTube video.
@lucki1000
i can't actually find that video on youtube . i was just wondering if anyone ever tried to hamper or crack official OTA package would it still Install on a completely Stock device and still get regular updates as in form of OTA from Lenovo/Motorola?

Help finding correct firmware and installing for AT&T SM-G991U.

Hello all...I'm a fellow victim of the OTA updates screwing us debloaters currently stuck in a boot-loop. I'm trying to recover my the past several years text notes containing all the medical details for my son's illness. Details on that can be found on my earlier post.
As a last ditch effort, I'm going to try flashing the factory firmware in hopes that I'll be able to snag them and then flash the latest firmware. My device is not rooted.
However, it's been many many years since I've done this and I've spent the day reading everything I could to ensure I don't screw this up and I have a few questions. The phone is under warranty and I really don't want to trip Knox.
First...I'm having trouble finding the correct firmware (I think? Yay AT&T!). Unfortunately, since I'm boot looping, I can't load the app to pull all the phone details now. But, when I pulled the phone details a little over a week ago trying to solve another issue, I made a note of what appears to be the baseband version: G991USQU5CVCC.
The only info I can find on it on AT&T's website, here: https://www.att.com/device-support/article/wireless/KM1428542/Samsung/SamsungSMG998U
I'm unable to find a download for it though. AT&T isn't available via Frija or Samloader.
However, if all my ADD-riddled reading today is correct, I should be able to get away with flashing one for the 1U1 version, right?
If not, anyone know where I can find the firmware that would work for the 1U version/G991USQU5CVCC?
If so, my thoughts are that my best chance of being able to it to stop looping long enough would be to flash the last-known-good version as opposed to the latest...this is doable, right? If that's correct, this is the one I've grabbed: https://www.sammobile.com/samsung/galaxy-s21/firmware/SM-G991U1/ATT/download/G991U1UEU5CVGB/1666245/
Also, regarding flashing...I'm reading it can be done via ADB sideload or cracked Odin...is one better/safer than the other?
Any other thoughts or advice would be greatly appreciated too.
Thanks!
Hmmmm....so I just noticed in Android Recovery, it posts a build number. I'm showing RP1A.200720.012, which appears to be for the S20?!
The full build number is RP1A.200720.012.G991USQU5CVCC...which, apparently doesn't exist in Google.

try finding firmware for your device here.
Be careful because you must select Bit/SW REV same as one on your phone, you can't downgrade it.
If you have latest firmware (A12) then your Bit/SW REV is 5

It's not S20, it's S21. If you are not sure, you can even search firmware with your IMEI or SN on post above this

Yup, I just had to figure out how it all worked...I was super-worried because I couldn't find 1U firmware for AT&T.
Buuut, guess what?!?!
Holy crap!! I got in!!!
I downloaded a newer version after flashing the current one didn't resolve it...just because...why not at this point?
It flashed successfully, did the same thing after initial reboot through...starts loading lock screen, flashing on/off randomly and reboot.
This time, however, it loaded into something different than the standard recovery menu. I don't remember the name, but, there was only 4 options.
Try Again
Delete App Data
View Logs
Shut Down
I decided to try the Delete App Data option as the data I was trying to get was in the download folder...not specifically part of an app...and it rebooted into Safe Mode without the glitch!! Previously, the glitch still happened in Safe Mode.
It went into what appeared to be a factory reset phone with the Get Started thing, connect to WiFi, permissions, restore data, etc. I skipped all that though, figuring it actually factory reset the phone and that I had officially lost this battle and would have to rebuild all my notes (something I had come to accept would probably be the case in this situation).
But! Once I went through that and got the main Safe Mode screen, I connected it back up to the laptop and EVERYTHING IS THERE!!!!!
I'm copying off now as I type this.
Thanks to you and iBowToAndroid for all your help with this...you guys saved me days/weeks of time to pull all the records and recreate my notes. Unsure how to tag iBowToAndroid on here...but, he helped me understanding the firmware/carrier stuff via DM.
