Been looking for a camera to replace stock, primarily because of bright mode, which is awesome. Saw night sight on the pixel3, which looks similar. I have gcam, which doesn't have anything close. Haven't been able to find a port of either camera that includes a low light mode like that.

I was puzzled at first by your post. Why are you looking for a camera "replacement" if you admit stock camera is awesome? Just continue to use the stock camera with Bright Mode! So, I researched your past posts and see what information was missing... You are on custom AOSP ROM. So, you can't use stock camera.
That's one reason I am still on rooted stock firmware, but with TWRP flashable mods like this one.
Oh yeah, sorry. Actually lineageos ATM. But the pixel night sight renewed my interest in this, and i haven't been able to find a solution. Had given up on a stock camera port, but hoping that the pixel cam is out there or being developed. Also looks like the gcam port I'm using isn't being developed any more, and I went down a rabbit hole trying to find a replacement. Any ideas?

@fu24 I have tried "MGC_6.1.021_MI8_V1a.apk", just working "wide angle".
When it comes to the other part (Night Sight, Google Lens ...) this menu is switched to the normal camera, interesting but when you choose "night sight" or something, it is just the wide-angle camera. I'm using LG G6 Stock Oreo.

@fu24 has stepped into @cstark27's shoes and is now releasing ports. Read the last two or three pages of that thread. I'm not sure which version they are talking about.

That was the rabbit hole I was talking about...So many versions without explanation of the differences. However, I tried this one, which is working so far:
https://www.celsoazevedo.com/files/android/google-camera/f/MGC_6.1.021_FINAL_V1_A8.1+.apk
Theres a version V1, V1a, and V1b. Not sure which is the most recent, but all seem to work. Only problem with the night sight is that you can't see what you're taking a picture of--too dark, but the post processing seems to work correctly (unlike bright mode, where you can see what the picture is going to look like). Front cam doesn't support night sight, and I don't know if there's a separate wide angle version. But overall, so far so good. Thanks!
Ah well, that was short lived. Upgraded to a Pie ROM, which seems to have broken the working camera. Tried multiple 6.1.x google cam ports, and none save the image--the resolution of the rear camera doesn't seem to register correctly. Front cams work...

Hi all. I just got the FFC for the Vibrant in the mail after 3 weeks (awesome!) and I just opened up the phone, installed it according to all the instructions, made sure that it snapped in, but now my phone is not detecting either a rear or front camera! I'll try a new ROM, but I'm sure it's not that and I'm POSITIVE that I did not harm the new camera assembly. I took great care of it. I'll also try flashing the FFC_Mod.zip via CwM and see if it works. Will update once I've tried all of this. Anyone have any other ideas as to what's wrong?
even if the rom dosent support it should at least detect the rear camera.....

Ok the FFC_Mod.zip didn't work. Let's see what re-flashing the ROM does.

I was on Revolution ROM 2.0 (2.3.4 JVP) when I first tried it out. No luck, even after flashing FFC_Mod.zip. So, I swapped the new camera out with the old one just to see what would happen. The stock camera works, but the new GT-I9000 camera wont work in either case, whether it's the rear cam or the FFC. I checked all over the new camera. Except for the FFC attachment (obviously), EVERY little detail of that camera is the same as the old one, so I agree with you, the problem is most likely a software issue, but I'll still do one last test of it. I'll go and try a ROM and kernel that's proven to work, and if it doesn't, then I know that it's the camera itself and not something software based. I'll update this post once I'm done.
I know CM9 nightlies have started rolling out for the american GS3 but i wanted to know if features like smartstay and camera burst mode have remained. These 2 features i would give up even for CM. Also besides that, anything else has changed from lets say the CM9 i had on my skyrocket?

CM9 is mostly universal across all devices..it is pure, vanilla Android, how Google designed in. So no, it will not have any Samsung added on features, including smartstay or camera burst.
well then, no CM9 for me! Unless someone releases a CWm flashable zip to add those features
I don't think that's possible as those features require touchwiz to operate.

"Smart Stay" has already been replicated by a 3rd-party app call ISeeYou, which I'll probably install once I flash CM10, since it'll probably NEVER make it into CM proper.
And as far as burst mode goes, there's many other camera apps to choose from if you want that. Personally, I rarely ever find a use for burst (though, I admit i thought it was neat that it picked out the "best" pic from 8 burst pics i took of my kid throwing water up in the air)

I guess ill have to stick with stock this time, anyways, with a good launcher, its not like if its that bad. Just waiting for a one click root so i can freeze some apps

Hi guys,
didn´t find another thread regarding CM9 focussing on the camera issue ... so ... I´ve installed CM9 07/16/2012 having still the camera issue after installing the files from 07/12/2012 (and setting the perms to the correct settings). Does anyone has the same problem and solved it? I´m using a AT&T SGH-I747. Help is appreciated.
I am still on stock Oreo, rooted, running MIUI 10.2.2.0 (Android 8.1). I have already modified my build.prop to enable API 2.0. OpenCamera and Manual Camera both seem to function properly, even using RAW mode.
I would like to install GCAM on stock ROM while still deciding which custom ROM to eventually install. My front camera is not working, which I would like to fix, but not a huge deal right now. Where do I get GCAM for my OS and any necessary libs to install? GCAM doesn't show up in a Google Play search so I assume I have to side load it. Where can I find it and what else am I missing here?

Maybe in the future hopefully.
You can check this topic where all the working mids of GCam for all devices are listed.

Well, you got my curiosity up, so I started trying the different Xiaomi GCAM releases and actually found one that works on the Mi 8 Lite. I can not vouch for how well it will continue to work in the long term, but it does work. I took a few snap shots with different settings, including Night Sight. All works. It is the one for the Pocophone F1 dated March 5 (MGC_6.1.021_XCAMBase_F1_v3.apk). Everything seems to work except for taking 4K video. That gives me only a black screen. Change the setting to 1080P (it defaults to 4K) and video DOES work. Give it a try. Your mileage may vary.
Here is the link to it: https://f.celsoazevedo.com/file/gcamera/MGC_6.1.021_XCAMBase_F1_v3.apk
Edit: Now this is VERY weird! After it worked in all modes last night, today it only works in Lens Blur mode. No other mode works now, not even video. WTH? I changed nothing on the phone itself! I think it started not working when I turned the flash on. So if you try this, do NOT turn the flash on and see if it works for you. I have uninstalled and reinstalled. Still broken.

Wow that should have take much time to test every single one? I just tried few and has none worked I gave up.. Your test is interesting I guess a developer would find a way making it working... To be honest, I did not try every single one. I just tried the newest version for each phone. The F1 latest worked so well at first. I just cannot for the life of me figure out why it worked, then stopped working. That just blows my mind!!
Okay thx for telling us. I think I'm gonna share your experience in mi8 game thread maybe one dev will have a look and help us.
That said I notice the community for mi8 was way more larger than our so I'm afraid that as long as mi8 lite will remain less owned that any other major Xiaomi device like pocophone F1 or mi8 it'll be hard to get développer attention.
Just have to hope a dev finally buy one lol...

That would be GREAT man! A real dev could probably figure this out in very little time. Hopefully so. I will be moving to either the Pixel Experience or Resurrection Remix ROM in the not so distant future. Just dont have time right now to mess with it. New upcoming job, mom in hospital, lots of crap going on to be worried about complications on the phone right now. I cannot have much downtime on it atm unfortunetly. I am now on the PE ROM, which works quite well, especially now that it does include the current Mi 8 Lite kernel from the Xiaomi source code PIE kernel (also meaning it is no longer firmware specific). Even DT2W works because of this. I have noticed that LineageOS is not getting any updates here anymore. It is already two months behind in Google security updates alone. GCAM works right out of the box with Pixel Experience. If you really need GCAM, give it a try. You can even download GCAM from Google Play with this ROM, as it appears to Google as a real Pixel phone.

Well, gotta say, the one from play store works almost fine. The panorama photos are the problem. They make the app crash. All cameras seems to have an issue. Almost all the apks and the lineage camera does not have a way to make the video work. That was my main problem. Now the video works, but the best think about the 2 lens on back, the panorama pics, don't ?

For anyone who is interested, this file seems to work best. I tried the two suggested apks from the other post and there are several parts that do not work. The photos apply a heavy red tone to skin and night sight doesn't work either.
On the APK above though everything works. Only issue I have found is the screen doesn't show a preview when using night sight if the lighting is low. Once you take the pic though the results show in the gallery.
For anyone who tinkers, you can adjust enough settings to get what you want out of the app as well. So if you're looking for a good Gcam, this is the one I suggest so far.

My questions may seem dumb but I have never owned a Samsung phone.
I know samsung likes their bloatware and proprietary methods. Can I avoid all the samsung bloat and a samsung account and still use the phone? Are there ROMs that give a stock android experience?
Also what are you guys seeing for SOT? Im coming from a Asus ROG 6 Pro.
Any bugs you guys are experiencing? My 6Pro is so full of bugs that has pushed me to move brands.
You don't need a custom rom, you don't even need to root it, just use universal android debloater gui from github or adb app control to remove all the bloat (both include good instructions and details about what to remove) and going through first time set up you don't need a samsung or google account.
Unless you are using an international version there is no custom ROM option. The 918U and U1 models don't have the option to OEM unlock and flash ROMs.
You can easily umbloat using the mentioned universal android debloater.
Ui downloaded the 5.0 or sth like that and updated, then it all went south.
Stayed with the 5.0 version and it works great.
As for the ROM I put Nova Launcher and it works fine
Not the same but as long as the X3 camera shoots ****ty pictures I'll leave it warranty capable

Well, I used the "remove noise" or whatsoever option.
But for a X3 zoom I find the quality more than disappointing.
My Vivo X70Pro shots better photos.
Applied goodlock camera assistant, a bit better, and even gcam.
But quality just sucks for such a "high end" model...
Hoping on a FW fix though since with gcam its quite less worse
No issue here with 3x zoom with my S23U camera (B-version, EUX), just stock point&shoot....
Something like this ?
I'll retry with more natural light.
Maybe that's the issue.

Awesome, thanks for the replies. Since there is no custom roms, do we still have unlock and root available? At bare minimum i would like to install AdAway got universal ad blocking.

Please try to activate night mode before switching to x3. Also in low light you need to be VERY still for the sensor and ISP to work its magic.
Moreoever, keep your lenses clean as much as possible.
These 2 photos I just shot now in a very dimly light room.
