Region locked - so I think - Samsung Galaxy S9+ Questions & Answers

Good day people,
To start off with I confirm that I have searched the entire forum for a practical solution.
I was in Ireland and was unfortunately the victim of a taxi scam where I left my phone in one of the million taxis and Ireland.
Needless to say I had to buy a new Samsung s9 Plus from a reputable dealer in Ireland. The Samsung lady installed a local SIM and an SD card on my newly purchased phone.
I used to phone for approximately 3 days in Ireland phoning local numbers but majority of the numbers I phoned was back home in South Africa.
When I returned home to South Africa I obviously did a SIM swop and obtained my old number back.
Now that I have inserted my new South African SIM card into the phone I get a message that states phone not allowed.
I have communicated with Samsung where I purchase the phone and they are not very helpful at all saying that I must go back to Ireland and make another call in excess of 10 minutes now.
Surely there must be a different method to have this ludicrous problem resolved.
I have inserted Irish SIM card back in and thought it was maybe a network lock and place the sim on roaming and did receive a SMS on the Irish SIM card thereafter again and received the same error message that phone is not allowed.
Is there a method other than going back to Ireland to make a simple call to have the regional block removed without going to Ireland.
I paid 800 euros for this phone and the sales agent off Samsung assured me that my phone will be working when I returned to South Africa.
Needless to say I have returned to South Africa and now have a regional block on my Samsung s9 Plus.

my vodafone 1605 vpa dead

hello
I was in the trip in England and bought a device of exit poll: vodafone compact iii ( vodafone1605 ) and when I returned to my national I live in Israel, i only used it for 29 days before it started playing up. everything on the handset worked perfectly but until the 29th day. it just wouldnt turn on anymore.(Of course that tried to upgrade the device without to examine if it cid-lock )
I approached the importer of HTC in my country and he told me that they are not repair in the device of vodafone these only of htc and because on me to turn to Vodafone.
To the something there is an idea I live in Israel and can't arrive at England what I can do?
Tried to do number 6 from here:http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Hermes_UpgradeProblems#problem3
but the device is unwilling to work simple dead
Why don't you phone Vodafone UK and see what they suggest? They probably send the phones back to HTC for repair anyway so maybe they could arrange for you to send it to HTC directly.
Thanks for the attempt to help
yesterday I spoke with delegate vodafone uk on the phone +447836191191 In his words because must bring the device directly to them and it's impossible to send the device in the registered mail
There is an other solution because I will not mean to traveler soon to England
Try Vodafone Business Customer Services: +44 8700 746 464. As long as you tell them you use the phone for work purposes they will accept you as a business customer.
For me they always do a next day replacement of handset (by courier - with the courier picking up the old handset at the same time). Perhaps if you have a friend in the UK you can send your phone to them and then get Vodafone to send the courier to their address?

Prepaid data SIM card while in Germany and Poland?

Hi folks. Lad from the USA here is going to Poland and Germany for 2 weeks. Any advice on where/how to get a prepaid SIM data card? Can it work for both Poland and Germany? And I can just pop it into my SGS II and it'll work straight away without configuring anything?
Thanks.
Ok. I'm in Poland and purchased a Play prepaid sim. Internet works. I purchased the starter kit and refilled at 2gb for 30 zl.
However, the image below seems to say I only have 1.2gb. I don't understand it nor the rest of the text below.
I tried to explain to the guy at the play store and I saw him google "1220mb", which leads me to believe he's a lot more clueless than me.

SIM card in Germany and Poland
rwc..did you ever get a satisfactory solution to your question about a SIM card for Germany and Poland. I'm off to Berlin and then Poland (for the Euro Championships ) in 10 days time and need to sort out my comms. Any advice would be great for a an unlocked Samsung GSM phone I'm getting from Ebay.
Oh lucky you!!!!!! I wish I could go.
in Poland, you can get a prepaid sim data card from Play. It's called Play 4.0 because it works with 4 of their major providers (T-Mobile, Orange, something else, and another something else). The speed is not so bad.
Just pop the SIM in and reboot the phone.

I didn't understand all the details because I didn't speak Polish.
You can purchase a starter kit which gives you like 1GB and then refill. However, the data you are actually allotted doesn't amount to what is advertised.
The sim card didn't work in Germany so can't help you there
Great Sorry for delay in responding..I had a bike accident involving me and a groundhog scurrying across my path and I came out the worst !!
Thanks for the info on Poland..will sort out something else in Berlin, as I can understand a smattering of German.
C'mon the Irish !!
If you purchase an International Roaming SIM when you travel, instead of taking your Germany, Poland mobile with you whilst you travel through Europe, then you should save at least 70% or more. I am sure that you would rather keep your money in your pocket. I'm using holidayphone during my International tour. They providing cheap and best services.

UK Lumia 920 for £399.99, no contract

Just wanted to share this. I went to the local EE shop yesterday and they are doing a deal currently where you can have a black 920, sold as a PAYG handset, for £399.99. In addition, all PAYG handsets over £50 get a free set of WESC headphones (apparently RRP £90) and also a free wireless charging plate (RRP £39.99, all given to you there and then, assuming they're all in stock.
I did have to also top up a PAYG SIM with £10 so the final price was really £409.99 but this was still a lot cheaper than Phones4U were selling them at SIM free, but didn't have stock anyway.
The phone works fine with my Orange SIM and will also apparently work fine with EE, T-Mobile and Virgin SIMs.
Really pleased with the phone too, the screen is excellent. Thought i'd struggle with the size of the device but it's been quite quick to get used to.
That is a good deal, Far cheaper than £459 from Phones4u, Shame they aren't unlocked though, Well done.
Is there any branding on the phone itself or in the OS? EG splashscreen or carrier apps.

nope nothing on the device itself, or the OS. No specials apps either, even things like the Orange Wednesday app not there. The only thing i noticed was when i went into Wallet it had automatically created an Orange Mobile Account payment method for apps & music.
Interesting - I talked to EE and they said they don't do any PAYG tariffs or phones
Unlock frog in the UK now claim to be able to offer unlock codes.

Explain like im 5 - Network Locked -

So Ive received a phone as a gift from Malaysia lastest model j3 pro samsung. I live in Nepal, Kathmandu and my SIM does not work in the phone. It is saying "Invalid SIM card. Network locked SIM card inserted" But for sure this SIM is valid because it works in any phone I stick it in except this new one.
So I call Samsung Malaysia customer support.. they say the phone only works in the South East Asia region. They told me to contact my Network provider.. Ive called them and they categorically said they don't unlock phones contact Samsung customer support in Nepal. Well Nepal being the country it is doesn't have any brand outlets or official customer support, you just have a bunch of rogue outlets moonlighting as official stores. So what to do?
So explain like on 5 what the hell is going on here? And how do I unlock this *****?

TAB S6 LTE UK Version...can it be used with an Egyptian Sim ?

Hello everyone!
Okay so first off, sorry for having to post my first post as a question.
So I'm from Egypt (we still don't even have the s5e in stores..), I usually get all my tech from Amazon.com, seeing that the LTE variantof the Tab S6 is not available there yet, I went to check out amazon UK(also has global shipping)
I found an LTE variant of the tablet (Can't link it since I'm a new user) but its the "Samsung Galaxy Tab S6 LTE 256 GB 10.5-Inch Tablet - Mountain Grey (UK Version)". Link: amazon.co.uk/dp/B07W4KVH18?tag=dradisplay0bb-21&ascsubtag=8ae47d4591cfa385f0e63929fb543ed4_CT&ref=dra_a_ms_sb_ho_xx_P600_100
I found alot of questions getting answered by (it'll work only after you make a 10 min phone call in the UK using a UK sim card), is this what they call (Unlocking process) ? and is there anyway I can bypass that ? will I even need to do this ? since someone who lives in the EU asked that question and they said it'll work just fine without going through that process. also I use (Vodafone EG) as my carrier
I do apologies for a somewhat silly question, but I don't quite get how the locked/unlocked/GSM/CMDA thingy works
Thank you in advance !
Try putting in the link, but without the http(s)://www bit at the beginning
Oh and it's not at all a silly question.
Was it this one?

Done, and yeah that's the one.
OK, there are two issues.
Service Provider Lock
Region Lock
As this is from Amazon then it should be Service Provider unlocked.
However to stop what are known as 'Grey Imports' where a unit is destined for say the Hong Kong market, to stop it being then re-exported to say the UK they require a HK sim to be installed first (which is why if you but a new unit from Hong Kong it's usually been opened and a sim put in it so that it performs it's initial region check) this then allows you to subsequently install any sim, as long as the first sim is from a matching region.
In this instance I would guess that the unit Amazon are selling are probably region locked to Europe (I'm not certain though obviously), which means the first sim you installed would have to be a euro sim and you would have to do it in Europe for the sim to validate live and disable the region lock.
A potential way around this would be buy a used unit off ebay where the Region Lock has already been deactivated.
Hope the above makes sense, if you need further help and don't want to do it in the thread you could PM me.
Update: I got the tablet from Amazon UK and it worked just fine in Egypt, (I just popped in my Egyptian sim card and turned on the device
I am glad it works well for you.
I am wondering if it will work in the US if I get it from Amazon.uk. T-Mobile only carries the 128gb one; I need the 256gb one.
