Hi all,
i am new to Android, and i am trying to find out if an android keeps a log of the when applications were open or used.
e.g. I open Gmail, then Calendar, and I would be able to see on the log what time the app was accessed, or at least last used (which i thinks some versions of Android can do on some mobile models, but not all.
Depending on the mobile brand and model you can check open application, but that is not display in a shape of log.
Is this log exist where can it be found please?
Thank you

Hi,
firstly, let me introduce myself:
My name is Tony and from my signature and amount of posts, you can see, I am a very active XDA user and used to do a lot of first and second level support for the blueangel and the blackstone and today my SGS2 arrived, which is my first native android phone. As soon, as i figured out all the tiny beginner's questions, i will start supporting this awesome device for all you fellow users out there.
But for now, excuse me, that I have to ask a few stupid questions that I encountered while setting up the device:
1. My phone is set to English (US) and my keyboard and voice input options are set to German (so that writing or voice inputting sms and german addresses are easier). However, Vlingo does not exactly support the dual language and sometimes produces problems when reading out english information, anybody else experiencing mixed language problems there? any advice?
2. i decided to set my up contacts from scratch. i put in all the correct formal names for my contacts, but when i connect these users to their respective facebook accounts (who are sometimes based on nicknames), the display name automatically changes to the facebook name, while i prefer the formal name. is there a way to change it?
3. contacts allow me to add several im accounts, e.g. ICQ. when i click the icq# of a user, it opens up im and states that only windows live, google talk and yahoo are supported. is there a way to either connect that to the official icq for android, or add other messengers to the stock im? if not, why bother inputting all the information, if one cannot use it?
i wonder why nobody else seems to experience problem #2.
i found it again here: http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=6067
apparently, when you connect contacts through one or more platforms, like facebook, twitter, last.fm, skype... and there names vary, your contacts app will always prefer the last name with the latest letter in the alphabet. in my case, there is one contact first name r. last name b., but one facebook, he goes by another variation of his name, "zu b.", so contacts prefers the facebook name, as z is greater than b. there is no logical reason why facebook names should be preferred to the phone's own stored name. after all, i entered those names because i wanted to find the contacts by that name. why does the phone tell me, my choices are no good and facebook's are better?
strike issue #1 and #3, i will find a workaround some time, but it would be extremely nice, if someone could check if this contacts issue is present in their device and firmware?
i have ke7 dbt (latest german stock rom).
My nexus one does the same thing. If I sync contacts with Facebook it changes to their Facebook displayed name. I'm still not clear on exactly how it does it too.
i tried several ways of bypassing the issue, starting by assuming the sorting of contacts would be determined by the regular ascii order of letters, or linux's, so i tried renaming every contact to minuscules, so R.B. -> r.b. which didn't help and i wouldn't even bother starting any contact with z or any symbol, as that would render the letter navigation bar on the right useless.
so the only way i could bypass the issue was to sort and display contacts by first name. after many years of windows mobile use i'm having trouble getting used to it but apparently, there is no other way so far.
if anyone else has trouble with this, please go to http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=6067 and star the issue and post your experiences.
hi,
i just developed one simple database app in RADPHP xe2, its a simple app which connects with mysql database on my webserver , and fetches one field and a list box is populated, it works fine on my browser, it even works perfect when i usb debug on my galaxy tab, it even works perfect when i deploy to apk via phonegap build, but when i edit my mysql database and then again run the app , it shows the old records and new records are not fetches, that means its showing me snapshot of my data, how to get live data via my app. Please guide.

Hi,
a friend of mine bought a few days ago a Samsung Galaxy Tab 7" to manage his clients (he's a doctor).
He started to build his contact library (he doesn't have an android phone and no gmail contacts) adding name, surname, eventually mail and phone number and in the "Note" field he wrote all the note he'd taken. BUT this field has a characters' limit, and he can't add even a letter anymore (for the most visited client of course).
I tried to search for an app for this purpose but I can't find anything. I don't even search ONLY an app, it can be enough another method using the in-build feature of the tablet and android.
I searched for some CRM app, but most of them are ugly (since it's not a power user the more simple and clean is the better) and not optimized for a tablet. I found Insightly, but it's only online, and if he does'nt have a wifi network around he can't, not only record the new data, but also access to the old ones! They MUST be always available.
I thought about a simple folder + text file in G Drive, but these are only online too. Dropbox, too.
If it can interact with the G Mail contacts (the Note field is very useful at this) it would be wonderful, otherwise he'll build up his library with his contacts.
How can I do to have these data always on the tablet (cloud sync is not absolutely necessary)??? Any idea for an app or an alternative method?
Thanks!
nobody??
He bought a tablet to use for work, without any idea on how he would use it for work or if it would even do what he wanted? If he throws money around like that, why not recommend him to get an app written for his company and it's needs. There are many app developers who design and write custom apps for clients.
Hi All
I have a problem with the Restricted Profile on Kitkat on my Nexus 7
I have been letting my kids play "Clash of Clans" on my N7, in my wisdom I created restricted profiles for them to play on. They are getting tablets for their Christmas and I want to migrate their games to their new tablets and here begins the problem
To migrate their accounts to the new devices I need to generate a Link Code in Clash of Clans.
To generate the link code I need to have a Google+ account linked to the profile.
The problem I have is that the Android restricted profiles are not able to have a Google+ profile connected to the account.
Have been trying to find out if it is possible to upgrade a restricted profile to a full profile, but this does not seem possible.
Alternatively some way to link a Google+ account to a restricted account, all seems not doable.
Anyone have any other suggestions for a work around on this problem?
Thanks

I am fairly sure that it isn't possible to upgrade a restricted account.
but...
in my experience, Kids get over these inconveniences fairly quickly.
Have been thinking about this a bit more, and may have an idea as to how to solve this problem.
Does anyone know if it would be possible for me to copy the "Clash of Clans" data from the restricted profile to a full profile on the device that I could then link to a Google+ account and migrate over to the new device?

Sorry to resurrect an old thread, but I faced a similar dilemma yesterday, that I was able to solve. Root is obviously necessary, but it is possible to "upgrade" a restricted profile. In a nutshell, you need to modify the "/data/system/users/[nn].xml" file, and remove some files from "/data/system/users/[nn]/ folder, where [nn] corresponds to the numeric value of the restricted user.
So, if I remember correctly, this is what I did (I assume you have adb setup, and know your way around that):
Code:
adb pull /data/system/users/nn.xml
(replace "nn" with the right number for the user you want to modify; same for below)
Open the file you retrieved in a text editor like Notepad++, that won't mess with the line endings, and change
Code:
flags="24"
to
Code:
flags="16"
. Delete the contents of
Code:
<restrictions />
Save, and upload back to device:
Code:
adb push nn.xml /data/system/users/
Now delete some files from the user profile, related to restrictions:
Code:
adb shell
su (necessary if you don't see "#")
rm /data/system/users/nn/package-restrictions.xml
rm /data/system/users/nn/res_com.google.android.gms.xml
exit (twice, if you had to "su")
adb reboot
You should now be able to login as the user, and have access as a secondary user. You may need to remove/add some applications if they don't behave, and/or delete cache/data for the Play store and Google Framework. You may also need to remove all the Google accounts attached to the profile, and add them again for Play store to be able to install apps. I was getting errors, which cleared up after doing that.
So after completing the above, I was able to attach my son's CoC to his Google+ profile, and enable transferring it's data to another device, if I want to in the future. I decided to give "Screen Time Parental Control" a go, instead of the frustrating "restricted" profile. So far so good. Not sure yet if I want to shell out the $$ for the dude's Remote Control app, but so far I'm liking it. I think after the 15 day trial, though, I'll be hooked. Anyway, HTH anyone else trying to figure this out.
Edit: Forgot another detail: I did try to copy off the CoC data, and populate it into a new unrestricted profile, "chown"ing the files for the user, etc, for the new account, and it was a miserable fail. I also tried the flags="16" hack, installed Titanium Backup, and backed it up, but the resulting backup was useless. It was unable to be restored in a new profile. This is when I discovered that deleting those 2 files completely unlocked the profile, not just changing the flag, as mentioned on another website.

I have this same issue where I m trying to get COC and other data from a Nexus 7 using 4.4.2, Kernal version 3.1.10-g4776c68 and a restricted profile. I am a noob and not familiar with adb. Is it possible to change a restricted profile to unrestricted without rooting? I searched many forums and could not find a solution.
I'm having a similar problem backing up a different game app on my son's restricted account. How do I find the numeric value for the restricted user account?

A restricted account is a separate profile of a main account and cannot have a separate google account or gmail address associated with it. It is not possible to change the status to a regular account. You can set up a new account for your son with a separate gmail address, download the game and contact their support telling them you cannot access your account. Just make sure you copy all of the game ID information for the user so they can search for it. And don't access the game on the restricted device, otherwise it may appear that you are just trying to steal someone's ID.
I am planning to create an Android application which will neither have a launcher icon nor application UI. in short it will be a stealth app.
It will run in backgroungd and will perform its task automatically.
No user interaction required. just install it and forget it.
Basically it will collect some logs from a pre-defined directory and will send it via email to a pre-defined email address, without user knowing any thing All this should happen once a day as a pure background prcess.
Can anybody help me as this is going to be my very first Android application and I dont know anything about Android application programming.
