How does a carrier know which model phone you have? - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Just wondering if it is possible to spoof your phone model (in build.prop or elsewhere) to make a particular phone work on a particular carrier.
i.e. Huawei phone on Verizon
How does a carrier know which phone you are using?

Regarding your last question. It's read off your device and transmitted to the carrier.
To spoof/fake I actually only know one tool that I'm using myself but the device must be rooted and also running Xposed. The latter means the ROM must be Oreo or lower as Xposed isn't available for Pie; second with Xposed installed you're never going to pass the SafetyNet check if you require that. Finally, depending on your ROM version use XPrivacyLua or XPrivacy, both by M66B, and I always suggest the pro version to mainly support the developer and the development but also to enable some additional, useful features. XPrivacyLua has a companion application.

Recommendation for a device that can lock on LTE.

Greetings
I have a need- locking device on LTE only.
The need is for testing in my workplace.
I would like to buy a device that I set it to this option easily, without installing ROM, etc.
can you give me a recommendation for a specific device, Specific Model and a Specific Android version?
I came across a number of online forums and posts-
were not conclusive regarding the specific device/ Model/ Android version:

Max 2 fails SafetyNet, does it have malware?

So I got a Max 2 x829 which came with a case. It's running Android 6.0.1. It fails SafetyNet CTS and Basic Integrity, so does not run Pokemon Go. Is this expected, or did a reseller add malware on the device?
Mine suffers from the same problem. Where did you buy yours?
I wouldn't put much stock in safety net.

What do you mean? Not passing SafetyNet means not being able to play/download some of the best games on the PlayStore. I think it's relevant.
Same here. I'm using cuoco92 ROM. I tried safety net that comes with magisk manager, but it doesn't work. I really doubt that there is malware installed, but I've no idea why it fails...maybe because ROM is rooted?!
Let me think about this... Most people have buy this device from a international reseller shop instead of the official Leeco store or online shop. Makes sense cause I'm pretty sure that most of the users here on the board are not living in China or India.
Every online shop is installing a custom ROM to make sure that as many languages as possible are supported. The most installed "Shop-Rom" is couco92...
As far as we know every Android device that is able to run a custom ROM needs an opened bootloader and especially couco92 comes with the ability to run SuperSU and Root!
If you just search Google for "SafetyNet" you find an official statement why it's not possible to run Banking or
Pay-Apps and why there's no possibility to run games like Pokemon go on rooted devices!!!
So let me think again about this...
Sorry guys but I also don't understand why the hell this device isn't able to pass the SafteyNet check! It must be because of malware or something like this!!!
Sorry for being so damn ironic! Hopefully it's self explaining why I wrote a post like this and you are able to get the informations you are looking for from the text...
Thanks for the answer, albeit the unnecessary sarcasm. Assuming that's true (which sounds quite reasonable) would the original ROM fix the problem? is the original ROM maybe supporting english language? And could anyone confirm such ROM does indeed pass SafetyNet checks? Thanks!
So ended up flashing the last Indian stock ROM. That solved the "basic integrity" check and now I can download from Play Store apps not previously visible. However, still does not pass the CTS check.
I believe such checks are over exaggerated, hackers can hack strongly locked iPhones or anything similar, so it doesn't matter CTS pass or fail as long as you keep your phone fully scanned with reasonable antivirus/security apps.
I think thats because your phone has bootloader unlocked.
This is the reason:
Devices that ship with Google's Play Store and other apps installed must pass Google's Android “Compatibility Test Suite”. Rooting a device or installing a custom ROM prevents a device from being “CTS Compatible”. This is how the SafetyNet API can tell if you're rooted–it merely checks for CTS compatibility. Similarly, if you get an Android device that never came with Google's apps–like one of those $20 tablets shipped direct from a factory in China–it won't be considered “CTS compatible” at all, even if you haven't rooted it.

Heyyo, use the official LineageOS MM ROM. It passes safety net. There's some other ROMs but I'm not sure. I'll try it on Mokee MM build and report back.
RR N fails Safety Net as it is pre rooted and some other tweaks that cause it to fail.
Oh, another reason why it can fail safety net is modem firmware. You might have to revert to a Chinese or Indian or international modem firmware. I don't think developer firmware works for SafetyNet

I can't pass SafetyNet with latest (04/29) LineageOS 13 nightly. I tried with Chinese 23S modem, wipe everything except Internal Storage, and install Open GApps Pico. I still get CTS Profile Mismatch. I tried with it as my Internal ROM under MultiROM, which I believe should be OK. I think it's expected to fail if installed as a Secondary. In any case, I have no particular reason I need to pass SafetyNet, I just thought I'd try. I've read that on newer Android devices, an unlocked bootloader can cause SafetyNet to fail (unless kernel is patched). I didn't try re-locking my bootloader so that could be it.
Heyyo, hmm well I tried ASOP based DU rom but it failed too but then again I'm using MultiRom as well so I'm unsure if that messes with it since it's a custom boot.img which I think is part of the SafetyNet check...

Anyway to spoof my device to a Note 9 or Galaxy Tab S4?

Obviously I want that sick galaxy skin for fortnite. I know there is a way to make your device show up as something different but does that require root? It doesn't have to be permanent, just active while I turn on fortnite.
You can spoof your phone but it does require root

That probably won't work as you won't have access to the Galaxy Apps store

ofc there is a way to do it and it's quite easy but I'm not going to tell you because it's a literal 30 second google search away, you didn't need to create a thread

Just did this and installed the fortnite installer but it said device not supported
Fortnite for Android is built in ARM64 (armV8) code however NoxPlayer or any other emulator runs on armeabi-v7a (armV7) architecture so it is incompatible.
In order to spoof the device to make it look like something else you have to root the device and edit the build.prop file.
It is also true that you can find this using a Google Search. I would suggest those who have rooted and wish to spoof a device do some reading on what they need to do. It isn't that hard but to find what lines that need to be edited (and with what to use for the edit) in the build.prop will depend on what you want to spoof the device as.
There isn't any other way to make this happen without having rooted the phone. In the case of Snapdraon Galaxy S9+ owners there is no root method so you can't spoof your phone to be another. For Exynos Galaxy S9+ users follow the tutorials on the forum.
Keep in mind that if your wanting to spoof the device just for a skin you also have the risk of tripping the knox counter and all the related consequences.
to my understanding the skin was only available to preorders anyways

Is your phone completely stock? Have you flashed anything else before, like a custom ROM and then went back to stock or are you still on a custom ROM or anything like that? Or is your phone still the same as when you unboxed it?

It sounds like you might need your local carrier's CSC, but that would be from the snapdragon model not the exynos one that you have. Meaning that you would likely need to root your phone and either change CSC by flashing a custom rom with CSC selection option, or flashing a standalone csc-switching zip. These methods would allow to use a Snapdragon CSC on your Exynos, and likely provide the features you want.

Thanks I really appreciate the help it looks like im going to try and root my phone seeing as i have an international model and samsung US doesnt provide warranty for it anyway because of such. I originally bought the phone from RAC because I work there so my discount was nice and I just recently got it completely paid off and was able to get them to remove there knox profile with out any hassle so no more rac system apps in my phone that just prevent you from doing a lot. Do you have any suggestions as far as where I should start I already have the latest version of odin downloaded on my computer but Ive never done this before Ive only recently started picking up an interest in development.

LG LM-X210APM20s (Phoenix 4)

Hey all,
I got this unlocked GSM phone from a very large online retailer and I would like to put TWRP on it and also flash a custom ROM and possibly gApps if possible. I came across a guide telling me to download an app to determine if the phone supports project treble, which it does not as it was upgraded to Android 8.1.0.
When these devices are advertised as unlocked I assume it relates to being free to use on any carrier using that particular network, in this case GSM? Also, this does not mean the bootloader is unlocked?
I am having difficulty in finding the correct version of TWRP for this particular device as well as compatible custom ROMs and I am not even sure that this is the correct forum to be posting in for my device as I didn't see a Phoenix 4 forum. Please help.
Any chance a mod could transfer this post to the correct forum?
