Is s3 ok in 2018 ? - Samsung Galaxy Tab S3 Questions & Answers

I looking 4 a gift 4 my sister . I thinking about graphic tablet ( since she wanted that ) but only possiblity to create few drawings seems .... Poor
I said to myself "wait . I got note 8 and it got spen" . So I came here . How is tab s3 working right now ? I ask only about spen . I root every device so if rom will be stock , I wont have any problems with spen . But Should I buy something else if She want just graphic tablet or. s3 should be ok ?

Nah not really
I got one right in front of me now.
To be completely honest with you, the tab s3 is garbage.
Its Laggy and the Pen comes with a lot of delay
Battery life is just OK
Software Support is typically Samsung, but XDA modding community is pretty much non-existent. There is no decent rom outside for a daily use.
If you want a Tab for ~400 Euro to draw on the only real option (and I am really sorry to say this, because you know its APPLE) is the apple IPAD 2018 9.7 Inch. It costs about 300€ and the Pencil costs 100 extra. I know APPLE WTF, but no android tablet comes even close to this...
So now you can punish me DEAR ANDROID GOD!

It's not the best solution but its decent
I agree with the above statement but for what I use it for its good. Only use it for note taking for work that uses one note to sync between all my device.
Previously running a asus vivotab 8 this a step up from that. Although there are some quirks that bug me about the tab s3 like the inability to us the buttons to erase in one note but that's more of a one note issue then the tablet.
Performance is what you expect from a 820. Battery life is ok
I'm sure if I rooted and installed battery saving apps like greenify and nap time it would be better but I don't feel like rooting and having to wipe

What about s4 tab ? Same garbage ? I looking 4 something max 2k PLN . Around 460E . She is beginner and I don't want to buy her wacom ( most popular graphic stuff in Poland) cuz 1 with screen ( cheapest ) is around 1,200 E. I was looking at lenovo tablet with graphic pen . No1 yet show how this pen works on this tablet on yt . I guess is that bad that people don't show it ?
Anyway . I have no idea what I should buy her that's why I ask u here

Tab S4 the same Garbage
Android can't compete in the Tablet Sector against Apples IOS in 2018. Even Google chose to throw away Android for their Tablet and go with Chrome OS. Not the most elegant solution either, if you ask me. Just look at the laggy Animations it's hilarious for a Tab that starts at 600bucks+99€ for the pen. Even their 1600€ i7 Model has laggy animations dough to bad software optimization.
I am really sorry to say this again, the Apple IPAD 2018 is the best Option for this price & for your use-case by far.

Fought it's same

For me, it's fine I guess. I sold a Xiaomi Mi Mix 2S in exchange for this since I never really used it. At least It's 10x better than my old Galaxy Note 10.1 which, you know, might be the laggiest tablet in the universe. That thing was somehow bricked after months of constantly charging and never being used due to it's lagginess and the bulk ass S-Pen. Drew a couple of foxgirls on the S3 tho. I'm **** at drawing but at least that one's cute. Not the tablet's fault.
And yes. I do have an actual graphics tablet. It's a Huion H420 though so it's not actually really good for drawing. Used it to click circles.

I am not sure what your problem is. My Tab S3 is fast, quite fast indeed, and there is no stylus lag at al. In fact, the stylus is a joy to use with this tablet. I suggest that you restore the tablet to factory condition and then re-install your applications. This would make a substantial change to the speed and stability of the system

I love my tab s3. Perfect for my reading, writing, viewing, and casual gaming. Wish it is a bit lighter but other than the weight, I am so happy with it. I used to root all my gadgets but not this one and my S8. I have become a samsung fan.

[Q] Which phone? N5 or Note3

Hey all,
I've been using a lumia 1020 for the last month or so. However being a long term Android user I'm really starting to think this was a bad choice.
Now ive been thinking about what to get next, but Android.
I've been looking at the recent Lg Nexus 5 and the Note 3.
Past phones I've had are.
Galaxy nexus
Xperia Z
Note 2
S4
Ive been mulling over the idea or the two phones above and i really dont know which one would suit me better.
I have been thinking about running a blog for something to-do as in the winter months are pretty boring where i am, I'm also into photography, the rest of the time i use the phone primarily for internet use, rather than a phone.
The nexus is raw android and i prefer that to touchwiz purely based on looks, not functionality, as this always something that bothered me on Samsung phones, obviously speed is affected too.
I like the camera and screen on the note 3, as the camera was good on my S4, and the extra screen space makes sense for internet use, however the N5 isn't exactly a small screen and i can tether my tablet.
But the battery life is a serious question as while the Nokia is windows phone it lasts 3 days, i need a lot of screen time and plenty of standby too.
One of the biggest things is price in the uk a N5 is £349 while the Note 3 is £530 (I've used 32gb models here)
So what you pick? Or what should i pick, if you need to know more about my usage to answer this please do ask.
Thanks to everyone who helps.

nexus 5 will have LTS,if you plan to use the Phone for more than 1 or 2 years i suggest N5. or else note
Personally I would (and am going to) go for the N5. Not a fan of phones with a screen over 5" or Samsung phones, so for me it's a no-brainer.

Budgets not a problem, but it's worth mentioning as it depends on whether the features are worth the extra.
I will probably keep the Phone for 1/ 2 years, as I change when something new comes out.
Well i'm not interested in the Sony, as the Z wasn't a very good phone and broke, physically twice.

Yeah see this is why i'm so torn,
The Samsung is a excellent phone, however Touchwiz was designed by Stevie Wonder in regards to the colours, but the actual phone underneath that is a powerhouse with some nice functions and a huge screen with excellent battery life, While the Nexus 5 is the raw experience I love but i'm concerned about the quality of the handset and battery life.
As long as the camera is capable of shots like the Note 3 i'm cool with that, the GF will probably still have the Lumia 1020 should I need something exceptional.

Just my 2 cents, I'm stationed in Italy and I get H+, LTE, and H
So yes, it works great in Europe on vodafone

To say I'm beyond happy with this device would be an understatement. I'm seriously considering selling my Nexus 6P. They're very comparable, and I know how crazy that sounds. They have a ton of similarities, fast camera, good battery life, stock experience.
The battery life on the 6p wins JUST due to standby time. If I use the OPX all day I'll get 4-5 SOT, where the 6P gets 3-4 SOT. But that standby time of the 6p is what makes it a winner.
When OPX gets 6.0, that doze feature will really kick it over the edge.
The only thing that holds me wanting the 6p still is the fingerprint reader and the front facing speakers... before the 6p I had the OP2, that device was horrible (TO ME AT LEAST) Fingerprint reader was crap, and the shape of the device was not comfortable to hold for a while
If you're considering getting the OPX, get it. It's a fantastic device that doesn't feel cheap in the slightest bit. It performs better than the Moto X Pure Edition (2015)

One major negative however is how slippery the OPX is, as I sat there typing that is slid off the couch (which I though was level)
It's like ice slippery. GRIPPY to hold though... while holding you'll never worry about it slipping out of your hands, the glass is way grippier than the iPhone 4/4s

well it seems great from you review, even people say camera is bad on low light, i still dont know, im considering to buy htc one m8 (refurbished ) or this, the only this which is keeping me away from buying OPX is about that camera !! However i cant buy it from OnePLus web, because they dont ship to Albania (where i live ), i need try AliExpress, or something else ....
The camera on the m8 is the worst camera out there. I haven't tried the oneplusx low light.. I'll try it out tonight and post some samples

^^This is TOTALLY UNTRUE. The M8 has an excellent camera. The ONLY downside is the pics are only 4MP. So Zoom/Crop totally destroys the image. Low light pics are pretty great too. Better than this camera for sure.
Also, just the M8. The M8 Eye camera sucks.
The M8 also is optimized better than this phone. It just flies.
That being said, I would never buy a used or refurbished phone.
The M8 also has a better front camera. Better lighting and so on. Only 5MP though.
Can someone tell me whats the diference betwen a china version vs internacional version ? since opeplus does not ship to my country, i need to buy it from AliExpress and they wil sell me a china version ?

Id check on the onplus forums in their website.. I'm sure people have asked the identical questions with shipping solutions
Worst case I can think of is you'll find it has hydrogen os which you can just easily just root and toss oxygen os on

Read the article yourself. The One M8s weaknesses are noise under low light, where and stabilisation of videos, not colors and detail, both of which come out quite well, even if you lose some accuracy. You have to remember this is a 4MP sensor. It may not compete with the Z2, but its damn good for a 4 MP sensor. Sure, 4MP is not very sharp, but plenty good for social media, as long as you don't crop. The X on the other hand will do nothing in low light. Forget noise, you'll get nothing. Colors on the X are pleasing, though less accurate than the M8. The M8 overall takes better pictures, as long as you don't mind the loss of detail in the smaller sensor.

you can contact the seller and ask them help you install the OS Which you want then will be ok

Get the 1+X 1003-version, it works flawlessly in Europe.
About the camera, i can understand why YoungSkeezy hasn't posted any low light pictures yet because they don't really turn out that good tbh. If you want to get a good camera, buy a Galaxy S6... on the other hand, that's almost the only thing that stands out with the S6
I can just repeat what all the serious reviewers tell you, the 1+X is a great phone for its price. There are better phones out there but not by far.
If you ask me, for the reasonable price the pros are:
- Good looks, slim and build quality
- Decent APU for the phone size, two years old but copes with most tasks
- 3Gig RAM helps quite a lot
- Excellent screen
- Dual SIM or SD-slot
- Close to stock android experiance out of the box
- 3-way notification slider
...and the cons are:
- No fingerprint reader
- No NFC
- Mediocre camera
- Only about 12 or the 16GB of storage is available if you use 2 SIMs

yeah, I know.
but, the fact is that so far I had no worries about putting my phone in the back pocket, and this crashing was way too easy.

It is a Glass body phone! What did you expect! Seriously.
Edit: The Nexus 6P costs twice as much and fails just as bad. Keep that in mind before you judge.
Well, seriously, I expected it would be similar to some other Glass body phones which are lower class and even cheaper:

The OnePlus X has an SD 801 inside and less fancy hardware. Could be that OnePlus saved money on the hardware and innovation part.
But then again, if you just wanted to say:There is no perfect phone and certainly not a cheap perfect phone. Than yeah, that is right.

No but it does in this one https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d2jav7UdQtE like a biscuit.
Well, Mi5 has only one aluminium frame. They had to sacrifice rigidity of the phone to make it cheaper.
The phone has top components, though, so I think it's still one of the best Android phones (if not the best) in its price range.
Get a sleek looking case and you're fine. Since i live in Myanmar i payed the same price for it as they cost in China. So i have to handle it more careful then normal. Like a Chinese vase?
If you like rugged, get the Redmi Note 3 snapdragon. Fast, though and heavy.

The OnePlus X has an SD 801 inside and less fancy hardware. Could be that OnePlus saved money on the hardware and innovation part.
But then again, if you just wanted to say:There is no perfect phone and certainly not a cheap perfect phone. Than yeah, that is right.

so, here we are again...
this time, phone has SD 820 and even more fancy hardware, so OnePlus did not save money on the hardware and innovation part.
also, phone is in the same price range as Mi5, and in europe it's even cheaper (+official support).

it seems that phone really does not have to break as a cracker, after all.
be careful with your Mi5.

And where is One Plus now? SD 820 and more expensive than the Mi5.
The time when one plus was a flagship killer are long gone. One Plus right now is too expensive to be budget, and too bad to be premium.
The difference is that the Mi5 is true budget, compared to the OP3.
What One Plus released now with the OP3 is: either go for budget SD 820 -> Mi5 or spend 50 to 100 USD more and get a real flagship over the OP3... don't bring one plus on board after the current release.
Don't live in the past, the OP1 is long gone and old.
Yet if you want to compare you may also compare stuff to the Nokia 3210, that's a "bend proof phone" ... yes I am kidding. Don't live in the past.
thx for clarifying.
I would like to give you +20 Experience and +5 Prestige for that, but I'm struggling to find those options on this not-so-advanced forum.
anyways, as far as I can see, this is present:
Mi5 vs OP3 - one breaks, another doesn't
so, there's absolutely no need to live in the past for anybody.

Whats the point here? Mi5 failed, ok so what? (we can´t have all)
buy an OP3 and go to the right thread? There must be a "strong OP3 bend test" thread.

Just hit the thanks button, no problem at all..
And neither the Nexus 6P, nor the Mi5, nor the OP3 break under daily use.

Worth Upgrading ?

Heya fellas, used to own a Huawei mate 10 before jumping on the pixel 2 xl which I got now... Would you consider the mate 20 pro a good upgrade from the pixel 2 xl or wait for something better?
Any major problems with the phone? I remember the 10 being flawless... Is the SD card out yet? Anyone from the middle East can confirm volte option built in ? From Dubai here

Hi..
I am not that active on this forum, but I read alot here, and thought I would answer you.
The mate 20 pro is by far the best phone I have had, and by far the phone I wish I didn't have.
The stats, the quality, everything seems so great...
But then there is the problems, had to exchange it 5 times because of the gluegate issue with the screen. Finally got one with the boe screen, so that works.
Emui sucks big time and ram management is the worst I have evey seen. Notification sometimes don't come in, and if they do, you won't be able to see them because of the notch, there is no room for notifications..
I could go on. Simple answer: No, wait for better updates or maybe custom rom...
Or another phone...
I have the Mate 20 Pro and it is a powerhouse. I absolutely love it and my previous phone was a Pixel 2 XL.
If you can wait for the Sony XZ4 to come out I would jump on that
My advice...avoid the mate 20. It has all the "candy" but its not working as it should. Face unlock and fingerprint reader can be a hit and miss. Software needs a lot of tweaking. I have a Mate 10 and Mate 20 and quite frankly apart from the camera the Mate 10 hold it own, never missed a beat and now its also running on Pie. I am sure a lot on this forum will comment and disagree but keep the 800€+ in your pocket and look for another "cheaper" brand. The Mate 20 is not worth the hype. Just my 2 cents....

Ram management is fine. If you know how to use a phone. You just change the app battery settings for the problem apps and BANG no problem.
Seriously I have Pixel 2XL and a Mate 20 pro (sent my Pixel 3 back (Crap phone).
Mate 20 pro is brilliant but I would wait on the P30 Pro in march.

Nonsense. Face unlock works 100 percent of the time. Fingerprint is a backup only for locking apps.
Mate 20 pro is hands down THE best mobile out now, and I have owned them ALL.

You are clearly paid by Huawei to defend their product...you are the ONLY one claiming it works 100% of the time. Its like watching these supported video's on you tube, they all have the same verdict - the best phone ever build and all works without a hitch. Get into real life and you will see its not all perfect. Anyway, I have contributed and it's up to the topic starter to make up his mind.

Well calling it a "paper weight" wasn't a great response. I had two LG screens before this one and they were bad. I now have a Boe screen and screen is perfect. Face unlock works 99percent of the time for ME. If you look at my history you will see this is the 2nd Huawei phone I've owned. So I'm not paid by them either lol. You do have to tweak it to your liking, but once you have its great to use. If i thought it was crap I'd go back to my Note 9 or onto another phone.
Things for me personally that could definitely be improved are the Always on Display, better battery management for apps (its a bit too aggressive) easy to fix but it's not obvious on how to for everyone. Audio is not as good as say LG or HTC but neither are Samsung currently.
Got to say I'm loving the phone more now ive fitted a uv glue glass screen protector, it now looks better and is smoother than when using a tpu one. Fingerprint scanner seems to work better too now.
Overall in my opinion its a great phone.

Thanks a lot guys for all the input , yeah I know how Huawei roll when it comes to ram management and notification delays, been there.
But the screen issues is a new one, emui I got used to long back so no worries there.. guess I'll wait a lil longer tho it might not be the phone to jump to at this moment.. yes I'd love the SD and having my music library/ photo gallery with me 24/7 but let's see what the upcoming phones offer..
Thank you everyone

The Fold 2, is it time to join in?

Title pretty much says it; I'm thinking about getting the next iteration of the Fold. I was going to buy this one but I ended up with a P4 and a laptop and a few other toys instead because they took too long. In any event the next go around sounds like it's gaining some useful durability which is a plus and I'm eager to try the folding paradigm.
What say you? Glad you bought the Fold? Think round 2 might still be a little early to buy in? Feel free to call em as you see em, I'm not looking for someone to agree with me, I'm trying to figure out if it might be better to sit out for another round or not.
Iv jad the first fold on 4th Feb and I love the phone its totally up to you if you wait or jump in with the fold i love mine

i've had the fold since Dec. 7, and still no hardware issues.
my device has gotten the android 10 update: my only complaints are: i wish it kept just 1 or 2 things from android 9, and i don't like 1 or 2 things from android 10
consider how you type on a daily basis. do you use 2 hands, or swype?, i swype, so the front display is still useful. most people say the front display is useless to them.
consider app development. the most annoying app for me so far, is youtube. even with the "fullscreen" button at the bottom right, i still get black bars, with no option to "fill screen" to get rid of them.
i use the phone naked, with a carrying pouch, the ever popular shocksock. i say hello no to those stupid chunky cases. if you are prepared to take a few extra changes and precautions with how you handle a phone, go for the fold.
don't be scared by peoples issues with the device. think about what their complaints are. usually it is user implemented, like the main screen being worn out, with the oleophobic coating rubbing off.
to answer your questions:
I am absolutely glad i bought this phone. there is nothing like it.
if you cannot adapt in any way to use a new style of phone, don'y buy it. many ppl use the phone for a few days then return it because "they didn't like it".
if money is an issue, don't buy it.
if you have some money, look at these Fold Special Edition rumors that are going around. assume it is a Fold 1.5
early to buy into the Fold 2? hard to tell. the patent pictures showed the same notch inside the device, with the front display larger, going edge to edge. for a Fold 1 owner, the Fold 2 might have too little changes to warrant paying the huge price again.
good luck with your purchase
I'm old, money isn't an issue. Also relatively technical so new things are not an impediment either. It's things like annoyances that make you want to throw it out the window, having to be absurdly careful, etc. Those are the type things I'd rather do without.
Pluses and minuses in the latest rumors: Probably no S-Pen but 120 HZ seems likely. UTG, possibly the new 5NM chipset which would be a big plus to people like me who wont own a phone that cant be rooted. No deal-breakers yet and you owners aren't doing anything to sway me one way or the other. I SAID YOU OWNERS AREN"T DOING ANYTHING TO SWAY ME ONE WAY OR THE OTHER! Oops, did I type that or was I just thinking it?
Just to add my 2 scents, I bought the fold last week as needed a new toy. Coming from a Note 10 5G, the only reason I didn't adopt to it earlier was the reviews, and even samsung themselves to some extent, regarding the durability/fragility of it. However I am pleasantly surprised. The build quality is excellent. Features are what I expect but the added screen real estate is there when I want it! Although I can easily get by with using the external smaller screen for messages etc. Its not that small. Yes the unnecessary size of the notch is annoying but so was the punch hole camera in the Note 10 but you learn to ignore after a while.
Even the crease in the screen i can't see when you are using it directly in front of your face. Only noticeable when you swipe across it or tilt the device so that the light bounces of it.
Other than that, loving the phone/tablet.
Had mine for 7 months, love it, absolutely no defects, screen is still perfect, phone when i need a phone tablet when I need a tablet - will defo go for the fold 2 when it is eventually released,
How is Samsung Fold? i dont hear good reviews about this phone.

Do you still have the Fold? i have heard that the phone screen is easily scratch able.
From what I can tell it should be fine as long as you don't scuff the main screen with finger nails or keep it open in pockets where keys and coins could damage it.

Thanks guys, that's one of my main concerns, I take car of my phones because they're not cheap anymore but I am not stupidly careful and I don't want to have to be stupid careful. Ordinary care I can handle.

I'm looking at the Fold 2 as well. I've read many posts & watched videos on the Z Flip mainly to see reviews on that screen since the Fold 2 is supposed to have a similar (& hopefully an even better) version. Different than the original Fold screen type/material. I wanted that first Fold so badly. Been waiting for years for something like it. I ordered it but when it was canceled "for me" (after the debacle) I never re-ordered. Got the Note 10+ now & longing for a Note Fold but maybe that will arrive next year. Still, very interested in the Fold 2.

Same, I cancelled after the delays became longer than my patience but I'm still quite interested.
There are not alternatives! LG is a joke, Huawei far away from to be a trusted partner for Android based devices and what the ****, the display is one the outside!
So, the Fold is the only one. Available today! With 5G connectivity! With Wave 6 WLAN!! 12G RAM, 512GB Storage.
A phone, a tablet to go and a Desktop PC. I use this features all the day. Money doesn't matter, just my user experience!

Will that also apply to the Note 20?
No, the 5nm chip was going to b the exynos which can usually be rooted. The current situation isn't quite clear on whether there will be the 990 in the European and Indian phones or if everyone is going to get the Snapdragon. Hope seems to be fading on the 992 at any rate. We'll have to wait and see what shakes out in the next few weeks but the primary concept is that not being able to root is a hard pass deal breaker for me and the rumor that the 992 would be in there on some variants was probably going to be good news in that regard. The 990 would be much less so since it's going to be significantly slower that the new plus which is said to be clocked at over 3 gigaherts in the NA and other variants. In this case you probably gain root but at a performance penalty that might be more of a sphincter stretcher than I want to take.
Ok, I'll wait for the announcement. Thanks bro.
All released Fold versions (Gen1, Gen1+) shipped globally with Snapdragon Socs. The heat of current Exynos SoCs makes too much trouble with throtteling in too small cases.
All you need to take care of the current Fold version is to find the case that will protect your camera glas on the back. The fibercase shipped by Samsung with the Fold 5G case isn't.
