Hi,
Does the 8.4 version do PIP when watching things like YouTube, Plex, DirecTV Now, Netflix, etc. ?
YouTube work as PIP, Netflix does not, Prime Video at least supports split screen but just in the vertical orientation of the tablet.
I think youtube PiP only work in US. You could try with US VPN. Correct me if i'm wrong

anyone tried downloading netflix or hulu plus? can you get the video to stream?
or skype, it has a front facing video camera for video chat (i dont have the SGSP yet but i am getting one soon)
Hi,
Netflix seems to run fine on it. I don't use Skype or Hulu, so can't help you there.
I do have SlingPlayer on my SGP5, working with an old/original Slingbox tuner.
Jim
I use Dish Online, streams well (most of the time). HQ can have a few "skips", but worth it. I like changing the channel from work, when I know my wife is watching a soap Great accessing all my DVR content!
Netflix and Skype working
I've used both Netflix and Skype. Skype doesn't automatically enable the video chat as it doesn't detect the Galaxy Player as a compatible device. You have to go into the Skype settings and enable video calls. Then it works fine.
hulu+ is unavailable for my SGP 4.0
netflix works great!
skype with video chat works.
tested 1/23/12 on SGP 4.0

I used netflix and skype without lags
everything works great to
So I have a question about a feature. The picture in picture is an awesome feature love it. But is their a hack where I can use youtube or Netflix to achieve this. Not just videos already installed.
you would need an app like floating browser or OverSkreen and use the web to view netflix and youtube.
i dont think there is a PiP video player that will play from the apps themselves......if i wrong i would like to know this as well.
This is what I have been using for YouTube. Netflix support coming soon. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.myboyfriendisageek.stickit
After failing to find a way to watch movies, Youtube, Netflix, etc, on a TV without draining my batteries, I finally picked up a Chromecast dongle. I installed the Chromecast app along with the Avia Media Player app but none of my XVID movies would play. After a few attempts at ripping a DVD into different formats, MKV video with AAC audio finally worked perfectly. I'm now in the process of re-ripping all my DVD's into MKV videos. Youtube and Netflix are working great. Chromecast's screen mirroring is still a WIP but can be enabled with the MirrorEnabler app from these forums. The screen freezes for a moment every 40 or 50 seconds, so iscreen mirroring isn't suitable for gaming yet. After installing the Cast Store app, I was surprised to see so many apps designed for Chromecast.

I am running the mirror enabler on my 8.4 as well but have not notice any freezing problem. It isn't suitable for gaming but flawless for watching video.

I don't know what was causing the problem, but the freezing has stopped. Even when it was happening it was very brief (less than a second).
Do you have a black boarder around your picture when mirroring? I don't get it when casting a video but it's there when mirroring.

Yes, that because the resolution of my tablet is not 16:9.
If I use my phone (z2), which is 1080p, there is no black border.
A lot of claims have been made that the new Chromecast cannot do 60fps for YouTube videos and whilst from experience that was the case with the original Chromecast and will continue to be with the YouTube app, it is possible (kind of) to get videos to display at 60fps on the new Chromecast via screen mirroring. I say "kind of" because I have noticed frame drops and some sound sync issues every so often because the video output is not optimised. If Google wanted to, I would theorise that it would not be an issue for the YouTube app on Chromecast to run at [email protected] or even [email protected]
If you wish to verify (or rubbish) my claims, the method on how to do it is below:
You will need
- 1x Chromecast 2015;
- 1x Laptop or PC with a resolution at 1920x1080 with Google Chrome and the Google Cast (Beta) extension installed. As a junior member, I can't post a link but it's easily found on your favourite search engine using the phrase "Google Cast (Beta);
- 1x video which works at [email protected] (Sonic ones are good to give the video encoders a good test);
- (optional) video capture device which records at 60fps if you wish to show the world that it works.
Ensure your Chromecast is working, on YouTube, select a video which has a quality option of [email protected] Select the Google Cast extension (the button in the top right of the Chrome window which looks like a Chromecast button) and select options in the menu. Ensure that it is outputting at 1920x1080. Also feel free to test with the bitrate options (I set it to 10000Kbps although from experience [email protected] work between 2000-6000Kbps), ensure the "Maximum capture frame rate" is set at 60 and also ensure the "Enable frame size/rate auto-throttling" option is turned on or you'll get sound sync issues.
Now using the Google Cast extension, select the drop down arrow (don't get it to cast youtube.com otherwise you'll be stuck at [email protected]) and select the "cast this tab" option before selecting your preferred Chromecast. Now play that video and put it in full screen mode (right click and select the "Stats for Nerds" option to verify that the YouTube video is running at [email protected]).
All being well, with the aforementioned issues, it should be outputting at 60fps as opposed to the standard 30fps. Something very welcome for video game footage. Seems to work better if the tab your video is playing in on Chrome doesn't lose focus. If it does, I did find frame skipping occurred more often.
I uploaded a video to YouTube to verify the claim I made.
Hopefully Google will take note and at some point in the not too distant future, 60fps will be available on Chromecast - at least for the new ones.
So, what about the new Chromecast Ultra? Does the new Chromecast Ultra play YouTube videos at 60fps?
@tkdsl :
Saw your video review of the Chromecast Ultra:
https://youtu.be/IeuNO3K97mQ
But unfortunately you did not mention if the Chromecast Ultra plays YouTube videos at 60fps.
Can you please tell us if the Chromecast Ultra plays YouTube videos at 60fps?
And @MikeChannon :
Can you please create a proper forum for Chromecast (i.e. separate from Android TV) and create a proper sub forum for the Chromecast Ultra?
Regards

Thanks, but "looking great" = actually playing back at 60 fps?
Can you confirm that?
And would you also be able to confirm if the Chromecast Ultra plays 2160p60 YouTube videos at 60fps?
I saw in your video that your monitor apparently only supports [email protected] via HDMI. Do you happen to also possess a UHDTV that can do [email protected] so that you could test if 2160p60 YouTube videos are being played back at 60 fps?
There are lots of users on the Internet who would like to know that.
Regards

I'm curious if the new Chromecast can "for sure" do 60Hz as well.
@tkdsl @MTMTE Google has confirmed it now, see:

:good:
This is the Chromecast that we needed last year really.

And we need this year's Chromecast at the price of last year's Chromecast .
Charging twice as much is quite a lot...
It seems even this smartphone has hdr10 screen recognized by prime video and YouTube, but Netflix Is limited to HD streaming.
Is it supposed to be like this ?
Same here.
I believe that the Netflix app needs updating to release this function.
