Smart Lock on latest stock (US998 20F) - LG V30 Questions & Answers

Is anyone else unable to find smart lock settings in the latest stock FW? I recently upgraded to US998 20F using the TWRP zip and I can no longer find the settings. I used to be able to unlock with Trusted Voice but now when I say "Ok Google", it always asks me for my pattern.
This Verizon page mentions that it should be found under "Secure Lock Settings", but all I see is Make Pattern Visible, Lock Timer, and Power Key Instantly Locks.
Thanks
edit: Just dirty flashed back to 20E and it's gone there too. I used 20D for a long time so I'm either crazy or this was removed in 20E

I'm on 20f us998 and unlock with OK Google.

I was wondering about this too the other night as I was messing with the smart lock and thought "wasn't there face unlock before?" but I moved on from that thought pretty quickly because I don't want to use it. I didn't even think about voice but now that you mentioned it there's no voice unlock either.

Not sure how Nova launcher makes a difference with phone lock settings, but I do use Nova Pro. To be clear, OK Google detection does work, it just doesn't unlock the security of the phone like it would with Trusted Voice.
My Google settings has "Unlock with Voice Match" checked, and it isn't grayed out like yours:

Thanks, it's good to know I'm not alone. Out of curiosity, do you upgrade OTA, with kdz files, or TWRP zips?
I will try clean flashing the zip and possibly the kdz over the weekend to see if that gets it back.

I have Nova Pro too, and it works fine to unlock with voice.

I switched from LS998 7.1.2 to US998 7.1.2 via KDZ then unlocked bootloader and all that, then put on Android 8 via TWRP zip.

I'm not on stock to check and maybe you know this already but from what I remember, the options for face unlock and voice unlock are not in Googles standard "Smart Lock" options. LG has their own method for those in a different setting somewhere.

I am on 20F, use Nova Launcher Prime (not 'Pro'). Maybe 1/6 times when I say 'Ok Google' to unlock it still asks me for Pattern or FingerPrint unlock before I can access Google Assistant. Very strange, has been like this since I first got my V30+.

I'm missing Smart Lock too, just flashed VS99620G. No voice, face or bluetooth settings.
Had it when I was on 99820e.

I went back to stock. Updated to the latest update and I can confirm now, I don't see Smart Lock anywhere

Go to:
Settings, Lock Screen & Security, Trust Agents and enable Smart Lock.
That will put the option back in Secure Lock Settings. Everything seems to work fine with it now.

Thanks. I would have never found that. It didn't even come up on a settings search (or I just missed it).

Thanks everyone. I was seeing some other unrelated issues so I did a clean flash using the US998.20F kdz and now Smart Lock is back!

Unfortunately I didn't see this until after I did the clean flash so I am unable to confirm if this was my issue. Hopefully it works for others!

FoxFi Lockscreen Fix!

I have found a way to bypass that annoying FoxFi lockscreen on my Verizon I545 GS4! If you have FoxFi "Already" installed follow these steps:
(1) Press Home button-->Settings-->More-->Security--> Trusted Credentials--> User--> FoxFi--> Scroll down and select Remove-->Home Button.
(2) Re-Start FoxFi App--> Install certificate "BUT" on "Credential Use" select "WiFi"--> Ok-->Ok again-->Enter PIN #--> Turn on Mobile Hot Spot and leave on-->Home Button--> Shut screen off w/pwr button-->Home Button-->Enter PIN #-->Menu--> Settings-->My Device-->Lock Screen--> Enter PIN # for the "LAST TIME"-->Then hit Swipe (no security) and Boom...You're Done!
(3) Now you can turn FoxFi On or Off and don't have to worry about that annoying lock screen...Enjoy!
PS...If that annoying "Warning Triangle" happens to show up (it may not show anymore) just-->Swipe down on the notification panel and press clear if you don't want to see it while FoxFi is on!

Yes it works with Nova. However, the specific steps noted by the OP are different. Basically, after you remove the FoxFi credential make sure you set the lock screen back to swipe, you need to use the wi-fi option when setting up the credentials, leave FoxFi on and turn off the screen, enter your pin, reset the lock screen to whatever you like, and then you are ready to go.
Thanks OP for finding the fix.

You're quite Welcome!
The steps I've provided were if FoxFi was already installed and the PIN # lockscreen was already in place. However if your way works also that is fine with me as long as we achieve the same result of enjoying FoxFi WiFi without that annoying lockscreen

What is TW?
I'm stock, unrooted and on 4.4.2 and I've had no luck being able to set anything other than a PIN or Password. I followed the steps exactly.
One thing that might be of note is that simply removing the FoxFi credential doesn't give me back the option to set anything other than a PIN/Pass, I actually have to click on "Clear Credentials" under Settings > Security to remove all certificates before it gives me the option to use a pattern lock or no lock at all.

LaTropa64,
TW= Touch Wiz is Samsung's Original Launcher...
LaTropa64, Reinstall FoxFi like you normally would, put in your pin and THEN follow the instructions I've provided. I believe you've cleared the CLEAR CREDENTIALS tab instead of clicking the TRUSTED CREDENTIALS tab. Just start from scratch and you'll be fine! So far it's worked on the previous members without any problems and they're utilizing TW (Touch Wiz) and Nova Launchers and they are enjoying free Hot Spot without any annoying PIN's and Patterns...
Good Luck...we're in your corner!

SmitnLit, RockyM,
Are you guys Rooted? If Not maybe you clicked on "Clear Credentials" instead of "Trusted Credentials" in step # 1
After you've clicked "Trusted Credentials" Click "User" Then Click on "FoxFi" then SCROLL down till you see "Remove" click on that then proceed to step #2...
I currently have a Verizon i545 GS4 STOCK with Kit Kat 4.4.2 and so far it's work for me and a few other member's in the forum...

Ok Google not working from lock screen or screen off

I went into google now search settings and performed the voice training and enabled the option for hot word detection from lock screen and power off but it doesn't work. the only time it works is when i'm at the home screen UNlocked OR at the google now search area. Screen off or from lock screen detection simply does not work.
does anyone else notice this?
I don't have the nexus 9 but I did install the latest google now search and launcher from apkmirror .com and there was an always listening option in 'hotword detection' in voice settings of the google now. There was also the screen off detection option but it was greyed out. I had the always listening in all apps option enabled and it was working greatly but the next day I woke up and the feature wasn't working so I went into settings and discovered that both of those options had disappeared (not greyed out but freaking disappeared), its some kind of google restriction, they are remotely restricting users from using these features for some unexplained reason.
Maybe its the same for u or it might be something else.
Same here, bit worked arter reboot
It works for a while after a reboot, but eventually stops working after a couple hours.
Looks like a common bug, I've seen some threads about this same issue (and I'm experiencing the same problem, too)

there is an option in Google Now -> Settings -> Voice -> OK google detection ....a check box exists here stating:
When Locked
Allow "OK Google" to start a voice search or action from a secure lock screen
so, it would seem that this is what was intended. perhaps what they meant here was that the screen has to be on and not timed out. dunno.
Yes, but screen has to be on. Only nexus 6 and 9 support GN with screen locked and off
Google search from locked screen works for a while and then stops. It's done this on my s4 and note 3. It is defenetly supposed to work from secure lock screen. In Google now settings there is a 3rd check box and you even get a warning stating anyone may be able to unlock your phone.
Google needs to fix this issue. I'm not sure what's up with these companies making screwed up software. Where are the devs, and why are they getting paid if they can't make flawless software. When I crash My car into a tree trying to unlock my phone and I press a law suit against google I'll bet they will fix it. Always takes a law suit to fix ****.
Oh. Anyone notice every app you've ever paid for or downloaded is under my apps "all" what's up with "all" I'll file my documents in my office under the "all" folder and see how quickly I get fired...Thanks for allowing me to rant.

Has anyone been able to get the stock Android Dialer installed?

Google Play store says it's not compatible; I've tried various APKs and when I go to install they also say incompatible.
That sucks. What might be the cause? I know the S8 can install it.
I'm also having the same issue... The LG phone app is horrendous

You have to ensure that the Google Phone app is actually properly set as your default Dialer/Phone app. I had a similar problem until I did that. Under settings, go to apps and then click on "Configure apps" under the three dot overflow menu on the top right. Make sure the correct app is listed under "Phone app".

'Ok Google' voice phone unlocking doesn't work.

Hi,
As you may have known, ok Google issue has been solved in recent miui 10 stable update. Now it offers to unlock the device using voice match even when the display is turned off.
Now even I say ok Google when the screen is turned off, it does wake the device but it's still locked and it shows me pattern unlock.
How to unlock the device so that I can pass an actual command to Google assistant?
Thanks
My phone just updated to MIUI Global 10.0 (10.0.4.0 OEJMIFH) and it was fixed.
Now I can say 'Ok Goolge' and it opens assistant.
Phone unlocking by voice command is disabled by miui and afaik even Google is removing this feature from assistant, security reasons probably

Yes, I did that. It does wake up the device but doesn't unlock it.
Edit: Sorry. I wasn't facing the same issue. I was facing the issue where the Google Assistant wasn't working properly, and it would show me the error "unable to open microphone".
I found the solution on the MIUI forums. Here's what I did...
You have to go to the Google app in "Installed Apps" and clear the cache and the data and reboot, and it'll start working fine.
It was a little tricky to find the Google app as it wouldn't show in the Installed Apps. You have to click on the 3 dots on the upper right side corner and select "Show all apps" and then it'll show up. After that, you just clear the cache and the data and reboot phone, and it'll start working properly
Nevertheless, I tried your solution and it didn't work either way.

Don't get your hopes high about this feature's implementation on OEMs. Google were already silently phasing-out this feature and the OEMs will soon to follow.

Tried this as per instructions but still no avail. Are you using stable MIUI version?

It sort of works for me (Stable 10.0.6.0). However, following those instructions it only wakes the phone, but doesn't unlock. But - after getting to that point, I went into the Google assistant, settings, voice, voice match and it let me select the slider - gave me a warning about being less secure, and then it woke up AND unlocked via voice.
Unfortunately, it then failed to do it the next time I tried it and asked for my pattern/face. Not sure if it requires log in sometimes and not others, or if the first time was just luck!
At one point it would wake up and let me ask a question, but only read or show me the answer when I unlocked, but now it won't even do that, so basically it's completely inconsistent! hurrah!
Clearly some sort of security issue - whether it's Xiaomi or Google's fault is up for debate, but if Google are removing it from their flagship then I wouldn't be surprised if it never works properly on anything else.
If they would only get Trusted Places working properly (Google that is) or even allow trusted Wifi (I know the security implications but I'm prepared to accept them!) then it would probably not be necessary.
I could keep it unlocked with my watch, but then I find that (despite pocket mode) my phone regularly does random things while in my pocket!
I had similar issues with my Mate 10 Pro, that I've just changed from, so it's not solely Xiaomi's fault, but is it really too much to ask to expect Android features that are offered to actually work out of the box?!

You're right. But if it had worked then it would have been a great party trick. I never had a phone which could wake up with an audio command.

The irony is that I've just switched from a Huawei Mate 10 Pro (Various reasons, but flaky bluetooth top of the list) and that did do it after the last update. That's because they have their own voice recognition baked in to the Kirin chipset though I think, so it's not using just Google's voice match - and even that took a lot of fiddling to get working. No idea how secure it was, but it was handy for finding the phone by asking it where it was! I refuse to talk to my phone in public anyway, so it's something I can live without I think

Is it possible to unlock LG V30 from lockscreen with voice commands/google assistant

So im trting too find a work around too google removing the voice match feature in google assistant
Id like too have my screen locked and off, not charging, and be able too;
1. Say "Hey Google"
2. Have assistant or some app wake the screen if it is a voice match
3. Specify an app or say somthing like "launch ....... "
4. Have the device UNLOCK and launch the app or command
At very least, some way to wake and unlock the device via voice commands, then i can launch assistant again if needed and the app or shortcut or command i want then.
Right now I am on us998 after Frankensteining from Verizon vs996. That voice unlock is in settings >lockscreen and security > voice recognition.
I don't use it currently, but have in the past. Is that what you are looking for?

You still have that setting?
Which US998 firmware are you on?
While you can access Google Assistant with voice on a locked screen, it will no longer UNLOCK your screen by saying OK Google.
I have to use fingerprint or pattern to unlock screen (to differentiate from turning on a screen).
Well, I am on us998 h, March 1.
Well, I haven't tried it in quite awhile, so don't know if it works, but all the pages were there to set it up (although I didn't).
Two other screen shots of the set up.

Yeah, that's recent firmware.
I don't think it will let you unlock the screen, unless you have some very strange configuration. They took that away some time in 2018.

Well, sorry for the mixup. I didn't mean to misinform.
Ok lets straighten this out....
Hes not saying, and im not using, google assistant too unlock the phone from the lock screen
LG, built into the device, has unlock by voice recognition, along side fingerprint ect.
See the attached screen shot, updated to 20h, you know i just told you Chazz i did that flash over the weekend....
After i unlock with that built in unlock, im using a combination of google assistant and the app Voice Access to launch the app shortcut i want too launch.

Other than that, Chazz is correct, and that was the point of this thread, google assistant took away the feature to unlock the device some time ago, and i was trying to get around that and didn't realize LG allows it built in
