Hey guys, I recently came into a Samsung galaxy s2 from work. The prolblem is the guy who gave it to me, gave it to me because he went to restore it and locked it up at a Google confirmation screen on setup and he doesn't remember the employees email used to set it up. He basically threw it on my desk and said if you can get it back running it's yours so I figured why not.
It's a Verizon model of some sort but without getting it up I've got no idea on the specifics. I downloaded odin but it's been a while using anything other than for Google branded devices and I'm not sure what files or Roms to download for this thing to even attempt rooting/cfw'ing without possibly bricking it out.
Any help would be appreciated, it's actually a nice little beater tablet to have.
Thanks in advance
I've already attempted googling for about a week+ with no luck

If you're asking how to bypass Factory Reset Protection, that is against the rules here. We can't discuss this topic here on this forum, sorry.

Sorry honestly did not know, I'll just try and do some research more online and see if I can figure out what images from Odin or what I'll have to dump on the thing it's legitimately from my job this is not a stolen device or anything of that nature.
Thanks anyway guys

I rooted my I717 a long time ago but have never been able to get call recording to work... So I recently went searching for ways to make that possible.
I read this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1329360
and DL'd this file: CF-Root-SGN_XX_OXA_LA1-v5.0-CWM5.rar because my baseband number ended in LA1.
I ran the "already-rooted" bat file on my phone and after rebooting, my phone is completely dead. Power button does nothing. Cant boot to recovery or anything. It's just dark with no signs of life.
I now realize that I was looking at the N7000 forum and that I probably screwed things up royally.
Please help with any ideas you have.
Thanks,
-Patrick
You should try and send the phone back for manufacturer repair... No power at boot is not a good thing.
Were you trying to unroot your phone? I mean your post said you were trying to get call recording working... kinda confused as to the logic on this one.

Well at that point I was flashing a new kernel as per the steps in that forum link for already rooted phones... So yeah. I know now there is a big difference between the I717 and the N7000. I just wish I had noticed earlier. I just saw the "Samsung Galaxy Note" in the forum title and didnt read further.
I spent 2 hours at the AT&T repair center today. Looks like they're going to mail me a refurb in a couple weeks or something. Would still like to get this one running again if at all possible.

I'm in the same boat as you. It doesn't seem like ANY website has any information on it yet... Maybe the phone is too new? Or, since it's a small, prepaid company (Literally only in about 5 states right now) the phone just isn't out there yet for any devs to play around with it. I'm trying to see if I can find a way to do it on my own, I've rooted a bunch of phones in the past (Mainly only HTC though, this is my first ever Samsung phone) and I'm really only good at following root instructions, not on figuring out how to actually root a device. So I'm with you there, hopefully there will be a way to root the Galaxy Amp someday. I love the phone, but I really want App2SD as the only issue I really have with the phone is the lack of internal app storage.
I've thought about trying other Samsung Galaxy devices rooting methods, but I am just skeptical if it'll brick the phone or not if I try rooting with a method designed for another phone. But then again, the if the phones are similar, I don't see why anything could go wrong, so it might be worth a shot.
Possible work around

I also have the Samsung Galaxy Amp from Aio. It is really similar to the Galaxy SII mini so maybe you could root it using the method used for the mini?

I do agree they are very similar, but I wouldn't wanna brick my device if there's anything different between the devices. Though, the only difference I've really been able to find is the internal storage is lacking compared to the S3 mini, and the VGA front facing camera.. Still, I'll only try it if it won't brick the Galaxy AMP.

Same here as well. I Google for a rooting method for it at least twice a day, and nothing whatsoever. I really want to get it rooted so I can install apps on my SD card (I travel a lot, and use Sygic Navigation as my preferred GPS system, but the maps are flooding my lousy amount of internal storage. It seems to me that the few of us posting in this thread are the only people who have the Samsung Galaxy AMP. AIO does seem to be spreading across the nation now, they just got Service in Texas, and I think California is next, so maybe once it gets out there more, more devs can get their hands on the phone to find a method.
EDIT: Is there a universal way to unlock a bootloader on a Samsung device?? The HTC website will basically unlock any phone's bootloader. I used to have an HTC Rezound, and all I had to do was go to the development section of the HTC website, and unlocked my bootloader directly from the website. Samsung's website has no such thing on it.
Isn't there a way to do it through fastboot? Another phone I had, I literally just went into the comand prompt with Android-sdk, typed "fastboot oem unlock" and unlocked the bootloader that way... Is that possible to do on this Samsung Galaxy Amp?

Right now, for downloaded apps, I have Sygic navigation, Words With Friends, and Ubuntu One Could manager, and my internal memory is full. I honestly don't think there will be a rooting method any time soon, which really sucks. I want root so badly to be able to switch some apps over to my SD card so I can install more than these 3 apps. But, it just doesn't seem this phone is going to get the attention we need.
I just got this phone a couple months back and found this post...was wondering if anyone has found anything?

Hey I tried to root my galaxy amp as if it where a s3 mini but it didn't work. I have been checking the net for any forums but still nothing. Once if I find a way I will make sure to post in the forum.
Possibly a little help coming your way (HAVE NOT TESTED)...
A co-worker of mine got this phone through AIO for his girlfriend. He tried rooting and ended up soft bricking the phone (could still get into Download Mode). He sent the phone into AIO for a replacement BUT we were able to locate the PDA and CSC files for this phone. We HAVE NOT TESTED the 2 files, but i will post them from my MediaFire account. Flash w/ Odin or Heimdell (There are Numerous threads here on XDA if youre unsure how to do it, as it is the SAME procedure on all Galaxy phones). These files SHOULD work as intended, BUT i repeat ARE NOT TESTED.
EDITED: LINKS ARE UP!!
Link for the CSC.MD5 ==> http://www.mediafire.com/download/9...07ATTAMD1_1056913_REV00_user_low_ship.tar.md5
Link for the TAR.MD5 ==> http://www.mediafire.com/download/c...407UCAMD1_1056913_REV00_user_low_ship.tar.md5
Glorious Success
THANK YOU!! I had soft-bricked my phone and just flashed these files with Odin 3.04 and it works perfectly. You do realize that you're probably the first person to post the MD5's for this phone for free on the internet? Not even Samsung has these files on their website. Truly, development for this phone can finally begin.
Also, even though the CSC is ATT, it works with Aio. Apparently, they use the same towers so it makes no difference.
Thanks, Rob.

I had a spare Galaxy Amp SGH-i407 and this package did not work for me. I was using framaroot 1.9.1.
Since it spare phone I used the K ingo thing, and that did work. I'm going to play around with root for the time and see if I can unlock the phone.
Worked for me too.

I was able to root my amp with the kingoapp software above.
A couple of things before you run off and do it. First do some research on Google on the software. Even though no one has found anything definitive, there may be malware that comes with it. It definitely does send data to a server in China. I work in the IT department of a medium sized business so as extra precaution, I used a laptop that is waiting to be scrubbed and public wifi just to be safe. If you don't have that luxury you need to ask yourself if its worth it. The second thing is that you have to have the Samsung Kies software installed before the software can connect to your phone. Once that was done it took about 5 minutes for the software to find the correct exploit to get root. Anyway best of luck for everyone.
Unfortunately I got mine rooted too late to be a whole lot of value to me. I ended up buying an att branded Motorola Atrix HD off ebay so I could get a phone with 8 GB of internal memory that was easily rootable, with an unlockable bootloader, a useable recovery and a fairly active developer environment. So my amp is now an insurance policy when i mess up flashing a rom and don't want to be without a usable phone for an hour or so.
well if u had to install Samsung Kies then it means your phone driver is missing and i apologies for my inconvinence..
Alright so new member here i have been using XDA to unlock and flash zip, kernals etc in android devices since 4 years.. i would like to thank this site :good:
Now straight to my point
Okay so I bought a Photon 4g 2 weeks ago and my bad luck its on 2.3.5 (I dont know if its factory 2.3.5 or OTA because i bought it from a friend who knows nothing about it) which means its bootlaoder is locked for good.. I did the ReservedOdm check and got "30000000000030003000100000000" which means =Electrify who performed OTA update to 2.3.5 and now stuck never unlocked) As the thread says.
Moreover I saw this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2072644 by @nickman529 and I was really shocked to see that a 45 pages thread with skilled people couldnt unlock the 2.3.5 version of MoPhon. (I did not read the whole thread but i guess you guys couldnt found a solution) So my question is still in 2014 there's no method to unlock this beastly phone? an updated android OS is a must for this phone. We should do something as there are hundreds of people still waiting for XDA guys to come up with a solution.
I am not a newbie in this developing thing nor I am a developer I know In's and outs of unlocking etc.
I would really appreciate if XDA skilled guys will work on this again atleast we can do something? unlocking a bootloader of a phone is not impossible right? just that we need to work again on this. I want to get this done. Thank You :good:
Some details of my phone:
I flashed superuser with "Photon Torpedo Direct" method so I have root enabled
Build: 4.5.1A-1 SUN254_13
2.3.5
Hope I will get some replies as this is my first thread on XDA

i am afraid to tell you brother but there is no development under process of photon 4g the people on 2.3.5 are locked for good and its a misery for the developers too that they couldnt unlock it.. A replacement of another new model will be the only way to use new android versions lol :good:
check out Motorolla Moto G it has official upgrade of kitkat its affordable too :good:
photon
.. I've photon 2.3.5 and locked for sure.. hoping on dev to get a way out there..
come on guys I've got a few posts on here over the years about this lol I have a new account here since so I don't know where all those posts are.
sadly I have no clue what I did or how the heck I did it!
I bought the photon the day after it came out and used it for quite a while on sprint. I received the ota update to 2.3.5.
then when my contract expired I spent hours and hours and finally rooted and unlocked my phone and put it on straight talk. it was on the ota update so I was told I wouldn't be able to do it but somehow I did.
more recently I have a new issue with mine which is why I am back on here again but I am very disappointed I never had the chance to figure out how I did it.

brother we are talking about the bootloader unlock of photon 4g devices on 2.3.5 please clear that did you unlocked the bootloader or just unlocked your phone?? and whats your the problem you are facing now? let me know. I can help
I can't guarantee but I figured what I did would be called unlocking the bootloader. I do know I received the ota update as I remember having trouble with the phone after doing it so I was on 2.3.5 for sure. I do not remember what I did when unlocking it but it was completely factory plus the ota when I started and by the time I was done I had root access and I was running cm7 and I could put in my straight talk sim card and I had talk, text, mms, and data. that would be an unlocked bootloader if I'm right?
what I'm facing now is I get a message saying something about the modem did not start when ever I try turning the phone on.

if you have your photon with you right now then take a look at its bootloader open it and it must say UNLOCKED if not then your bootloader is still locked..
so the modem error comes and the mobile doesn't works?? I think its a hardware problem as far as i know
yea it does say unlocked in the corner of the bootloader screen.
I got the error when I tried flashing an update to my ROM. I don't know whether it flashed something that did that our if it was just coincidence that something went wrong with the hardware at the same time. I tried flashing it back to the old version and that did not fix the problem.

I honestly have no clue this was only like the third phone I ever unlocked and I've done dozens since. this was back right after the ota came out.
all I remember is I spent days and days trying to figure it out. if I had another phone I might work on it again as that's a really nice phone but I don't really expect to ever land on one of them again.

I have an OTA-locked one that's fairly cosmetically beat up. New replacement battery. USB port cracked off just enough that normal USB cables work but car dock does not. Otherwise I *think* it's fine - I gave up on peetr's decrapped stock ROM, which is good I gotta say, and bought an unlocked one on eBay.
I'd give it to you free but I am literally sweating out my rent check. Would you be willing to part with $25 for it, includes shipping?
A friend brought me a photon of his he is wanting to use with straight talk Sim , It is on 2.3.5 ota I believe but don't know . Have tried to unlock the boot loader but keep getting (FAILED (remote: (00180001))) when I try to get the unlock key. It has root but does not register the straight talk Sim and I felt unlocking the boot loader would help me fix this issue but am finding I can't .can anyone help am open to any suggestions. Pls know though I am still learning how to use the adb, fastboot, and know little about rsd (can't get it to even pick up the phone)

Hi guys, I'm new to ARM devices, but I have a lot linux experience and a fair amount of Android experience, as I've done some device porting work at android-x86.org.
I was recently given a photon 4G with a locked bootloader, 30000000000030003000100000000
My question is, what is so special about the bootloader that it can't be replaced by another bootloader. I was just looking at the thread to put Arch Linux on the Photon, but that thread seems to have stalled and I can not ask any questions there because I do not have 10 posts yet.
I am guessing the kernel image cannot be replaced with a locked bootloader? I read the post by peetr_ about SBF's & CG's & signatures, but when are the signatures checked, at flash time or every boot? I dd'd the boot partition to /tmp/boot.img and pulled it to my linux workstation but I've not been able to mount it. Mount thinks it's NTFS, is that what a .smg is? NTFS in some sort of container?

Funny how we're all in some way participating in all this work that manufacturers should've done, and a lot of us are broke.

Forgive me if I'm telling you stuff you already know, but here are a few random tidbits of info:
The OTA update blew a hardware fuse which somehow prevents bootloader unlock by any known methods
The only ROMs that can be flashed with the bootloader locked are ones using the stock kernel as-is, like peetr's ROM, so I think your guess about the kernel image becoming set in stone is correct.
Don't know anything else but I also have an OTA-locked one which I could run stuff on and get you output, if you want it, and an unlocked one (pre OTA update) running CM9. As long as it doesn't mess up my devices I could provide you with debug info.

Sure thing, I starred the notice of this in my email program and will get back on this thread next time I go thru my backlog if I haven't heard from you.
Funny how we're all in some way participating in all this work that manufacturers should've done, and a lot of us are broke.

I will try an remember to get back to you
there is one thing I was just thinking about that I do remember thinking about afterwards. whatever I did that made it work may have stemmed from what I later discovered was a corrupted file. I remember downloading file after file and trying to flash dozens of different files. every time I was getting all sorts of errors. suddenly tho I got a different error and after that when I would try throwing commands at the phone I would get completely different responses. my memory is very limited of it all but I thought I was completely screwed.
somehow tho I suddenly had a phone with the pre ota software on it.
whatever exactly it was that I messed up I have no clue without trying to re create the story.

Hey guys. Nickman529 here. Sorry I haven't ever updated anything on that thread. I don't have the MoPho anymore but I'd be willing to start up development if someone would wanna send me one or donate the PayPal funds for such. I hear your cries.
Ive looked every where on this this site and i cant find how to fix this at least not a outdated way i bought my friends old phone for $20 and it turned out it has google verification lock on it and this friend had blocked me after selling it and will not help i think he might have sold me a stolen phone or something to that nature i asked around to see if it was anybody's but this friend had moved from another state and nobody was claiming it so ive decided to keep it i just cant use it and im too broke rn to go buy another phone even if i only got this one for $20 please help me
Idk for sure that it will work, but you could try using Odin to reflash the stock firmware, which would likely get around it. Get the firmware from www.sammobile.com/firmwares/
I am giving you this suggestion in good faith that you have not yourself stolen this device. Good luck.

Hey guys,
So i've been looking quite a bit for a solution for this crap lock that google puts us through.
My girlfriend's father has given me his phone just to try and help him get out of this issue and since I already delt with an FRP lock before (found some side steps to bypass the lock on a Samsung S7 somethg for a friend) I thought it would be the same kind of deal here. Problem is that this phone is like a real alien and very few people actually buy it I guess. Thus not much info or ressources on the internet/forums so far.
The issue basically is that the phone is on FRP lock after a factory reset and my gf's father account is not working because phone tells us the password has been changed less than 24hrs ago. Thing is it's been a few weeks now and the phone has been off for some days and the message is still there preventing us to login. Yes the password and account credentials are correct.
Of course i've looked into the XDA forums and did find a guide for rooting and flashing back to stock, but this implies that you actually log into the phone and turn the dev mode ON, which i obviously can't do here.
I already have a bit of experience with android since I've been doing root and custom roms installations for a few years now, but this phone is kind of a weird thing on the market to be honest. Even finding a stock ROM for it is already a challenge in itself.
Any help or input appreciated, thanks.
Combination file
Have you tried flashing the combination file using Odin? Check out this guide on (combinationfirmware) dot com.. sorry it won't let me post a link. Go to that website
Other option. Go to ebay. People charge as low as $5 to install stock rom .. hope this helps.

Hi there,
Thanks for the suggestion but this is a CATERPILLAR S60 not a Samsung unfortunately... I don't think it would work? I'm afraid I might brick it if I use this combination firmware. Also your website seems to imply it's specifically designed for Samsung phones so...
