device and app dev - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Looking to develop (or find someone who can) a device to read analogue signals, e.g. temperature, conductivity, etc, then use an ADC put them via USB into an Android phone, where an app can further work with the data.
Do such devices already exist (for modification)?
Is this the best place to look for an expert on this (or where else)?
If anyone is interested and has significant experience designing such devices, please send a PM.
Thank you.

The request you made needs more than an Android developer,as it needs a hardware device to read the data (Temperature, etc) then transfer this data through usb to an app.
You better find first the hardware and then you can think on Android

Yes, agreed, it needs hardware and software dev. I thought it is good to post re both, you never know, and it immediately makes it clear what is involved.
As there are data loggers, this would not be far from it.
But maybe someone knows which one and how to modify it.
Is there a more suitable forum, perhaps for mobile-connected hardware?
Thank you.

I was also thinking on data loggers, as there is already one which sends the data to a pc. Switch the receptor from pc to android wouldn't be big deal . however, most of data loggers only work with one kind of data.(Temperature only for example).
About the forum, i could only recommend you Spanish forums,as i've seen people there making wireless connected devices to android.

Yes, data loggers would be partially an option, we need only resistance/conductivity. The loggers often have a display and battery which would be good if they could be avoided, to keep it as small as possible.
Re forums or other groups, Spanish is fine (if need be, Google translate will help).

What device are working with, and are you reverse engineering? Because that's what it sounds like. If this is the case, you're looking for a usb jig. Temperatures can easily be grabbed with ADB or an android terminal. Resistance values are easiest to find by looking up the board in question. Which you'll want to do anyways if you're messing with a jig. If I have a better idea of what you want to do, then I can probably put you on the right path.

Apologies for super late reply. I went off to find help locally and we did come up with the first step solution by using standard launch pads which have resistance measurement functions, ADC as well as low-power Bluetooth functionality all powered by micro USB. Thank you very much for your reply and again apologies for late reply, mea culpa!

Another dead wizard

Hi there. I have/had wizard g4, but after upgradin' rom by ruu my phone is bricked. he doesn't even respone to charger.
Now technical details: upgrade was done on i/spl 2.21.001/olip, so after hardspl'ing him. Everythin' went just fine, but in 73% i've realised that i'm uploadin' g3 rom... So i let ruu finish his job and now my pda is completly dead.
I won't be askin' for HELP, i will ask for info. Will anyone can tell me: if i take out 'disk on chip' (cause i think that's the flashrom chip), how i can reflash it? I mean: should i just put nk.nbf from 0x0000 or split rom image onto bootloader, radio and os and put it partially? what are adressess of those thinx and lenght of code? and how can i split nk.nbf?
Congrats !
What your are asking is not easy to do,it requires special flashing tools and connectors, which only the manufacturers and vendors have,It needs new bootloaders, you cannot do it yourself.DOC chip might have to be replaced,it means an almost new phone
Btw,have you tried to force it into bootloaders ? might be lucky,if it gets into bootloaders.well there's no harm in trying,if it does, then you might in luck and safe.
whatdy'a mean sayin' 'force it into bootloader'? if you mean pressing cam button while poweing it on- yes i've tried. i even tried to boot linux on desktop computer, connectin' wizard and typin' 'lsusb' in console, hoping that something like 'xxxx:xxxx unkown vendor' occurs. But, still no luck. even linux thoughts that usb port with connected wiz is free.
I know that only vendors and sevice-guyz know 'tricks' about connecting directly to DOC chip... but i'm still hopeing, cause i've found two unused connector places on mainboard(after disassemblin' of corse)- one in the middle, second next to sim card connector and i'm wondering if there's any chance to ommit BGA-welding(sorry 4 my english).
Have you heard about conspiracy theory ? i begun to belive in it... I think that many people know what 2 do, but noone want to help me from one particular reason: if someone helps me, i wouldn't need to pay in service, so someone will not earn money...
anyway, what do you mean about 'force in2 bl'?

First, let me clear you here, There's no such "Conspiracy theory" being practiced here in this Forum. It's a development Forum and not a Technical Advisory Service of some sort, where experts give advise and earn money. Its a free forum to help the newbies about the problem regarding their phones,We here believe in "Help & Support".The guys and gurus are not trained technical experts, its a voluntary website, where guys help and advise what they have learned and gained to the new guys joining and asking for help and they do it with honesty and to the best of their knowledge without any monetary benefits.
Secondly,Yes ! thats exactly what I meant for 'Force into booltloaders',cuz, may be if it does boot in the bootloaders, then it might be recovered, just a haunch, but if it doesn't,then its another dead paper weight on the desk.
Cheers!
I think it's a misunderstood there. I mean that maybe someone know what to do, but if it would leak to internet then services can lost money, cause what to pay 50$ i.e. if you can repair PDA by yourself?. I mean also that i've searched whole wide web... My polish sites of electronics, pda forums, even those forums where volunteers helps guys who crashed their bioses on PC's. And nothin', no one replies to mails, and if i ask someone directly they say thats no hope for me and my PDA.
I just cannot believe it... Even old PC had protection, if you uploaded wrong code into BIOS and PC cannot boot you always could ISA graphic card and boot from floppy.

focus on the problem:
tell me if u can at least see the bootloader ? If yes then u can have a fair chance of bringing urs back to life
It is because you are not supposed to flash a ROM that is not for your device!
For example, what will happen if you flash a AMIBIOS to a motherboard that uses AWARDBIOS (By your own way for sure)? Flashing G3-only ROMs to G4 device is just like that.
The protection for htc device is not letting you to flash a G3 only RUU in the usual way, you cracked to let it allow any ROM is your own problem, not problem of htc, and htc doesn't have to take care of it.

Do i cracked it? i just found ONE working ruu which allowed me to upload any rom to my device. i've switched nk.nbf files in folder wich ruu was in.
I know also that HTC wouldn't help mi, i'm not counting on warranty or manufacturer help.
No No...
You installed HardSPL to your device, so your device is already cracked (say patched may be better) by you.

uhm, it may be infatile question, but is it illegal? i know thah chaging IMEI is illegal, but is hardspl'ing too?
Cracking SPL is not an offense in law, just violate the warranty terms only.

I suspect that's going to be a negative. The SGS2 lacks the necessary hardware.
The Atrix can do this because it has little metal contacts on the outside of the device, that enable the communication with external hardware. The SGS2 only has USB.
Please use the Q&A Forum for questions &

You can output display via the MHL, or use the USB port, but can't do both at the same time. So not possible to port this exact lapdock.
You have a couple possible options though.
1- output display via MHL and use bluetooth keyboard/mouse combo
2- output display via DLNA and use USB OTG keyboard/mouse combo
To be honest, I'm not even really sure if option 2 is viable or not. I've not tried outputting my display via DLNA at all yet. So I don't know if this works.
connection to a monitor / TV is not a problem. What I want is the ability to run systems based on Linux like on Atrix.

You haven't been so clear about your question.
The Atrix can plug into a webtop, this laptop-like dock, yeah? Then the webtop is running off of software that's actually running on the phone.
This is not and will not be possible with the SGS2 without heavy modification, and I mean heavy...way beyond my skill set and I've taken a few cell phones apart to replace faulty parts.
If you just want to be able to run a Linux ROM...chances are good. Android is Linux based, but I'm guessing you want something a bit more purist, like one of the 'buntu's...I didn't find anything about this on the interwebs, but you should be able to google just as well as I can.
If that was your question, what the hell does that have to do with the webtop/webdock stated in the OP?
I just found something that gives similar possibilities - I have not tested it yet but looks promising - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1390351

Where can I get a ZTE A450 rom? Mine is tainted, very unstable and sluggish

Hello.
I participated very little in this community, my interests got in other directions and some of my replies were a bit controversial. My personal ideas about technology can be too weird to others, but I try to be sincere and honest even if that can be problematic. My diplomacy skills aren't so good too.
I would like to be a more active XDA member progressively. I like mobile devices, but I'm very FOSS proactive too.
I'm sorry to need to ask about this: I'm very obsessively curious and very prone to modify things to the point of breaking them. I do this compulsively, so sometimes I don't take precautions such as backups.
I'm unable to find a rom for my ZTE A450! The system is corrupted and full of malware, things got down after using Kingroot and such. I also modified lots of parameters without being sure if they would give me issues and didn't make backups before that.
These days GPS works very bad and I'm unable to use Google Maps properly because they got broken too. This is severely important for me, I have serious spatial orientation issues and get lost easily, wasting lots of time and having anxiety.
And things got worst: My computer is broken, so my phone is my only "little computer" right now. I need to fix it. I'm using my mobile for taking notes, reading study books and even doing most homework.
I deserve to suffer because I broke my "toy". I desesperately tried to repair it but I'm very be to the Android platform.
Please... Anyone can help me? Stock, rooted, minimal or whatever usable rom to make my ZTE A450 usable again.
A lot of thanks in advance!
Please...
Can anyone provide me a ROM for ZTE A450 or how to obtain it? I desperately need it!
Thanks in advance.

[Q] Is it possible to port a manufacturer Rom?

Hallo guys,
So first of all, I know "why didn't you bought the hardware from the manufacturer you like" blabla. I love the S6E but what I also love is the HTC software. So my question, is IT eventually possible to port completly a manufacturer Rom?
I found some Tutorials and also trying them out right now. But have also some concerns about a hardbrick or eventually a complete phone kill. How possible might this scenario be? If we assume I port everything properly?
Thanks in advance :good:

Hi seitzik
Thanks for asking.
There are some software portions you won't be able to handle as they intensively interact with the hardware you have, which harware itself isn't portable
Modem & Booloader you probably wont be able to mess with in anyway.
Recovery & Kernel can be customized indeed but not as far as from an alien Manufacturer.
EDIT: The above pieces of software are the ones that could lead to a brick so be careful.
What leaves you with System ( / <- root and forward). Within system there are a LOT (I mean it ... a lot) of binary libraries that interact directly with devices sensors and their absence would, at least, disable its functions.
The other way around would be true ... HTC apps would require their own libraries that would not find the associated hardware necessary to work properly.
IMHO, seems I huge and painful endeavour.
EDIT: if one were interested in the looks of HTC, there are some launchers over there that could bring it closer to you.
But, as it seems, you already dressed XDA T-Shrit "DIY" and, as so, please keep us updated.
Have fun.
.
Thank you very much for your reply!

How to root Onyx Boox Note?

I have recently bought an Onyx Boox Note. This is an E-Ink device that runs Android 6.0.1. It has a 10.3 inch display, 2 gb of RAM, and 32 gb of internal storage. No sd card slot. There is no custom recovery available for it, to my knowledge. Neither Kingoroot nor Kingroot were able to root it. I have adb access to the Note, however, but not fastboot.
Any suggestions as to what I could try? Let me know if you need more info about the device.
Thanks for your help.
Update: I have achieved root. I used King Root which finally worked after a couple of attempts. I then used the SuperSuMe Pro app to switch myself over to SuperSU. All is well now.

That depends on how you plan to use it. (The price is not out of line if you compare it with an iPad or some similarly sized Android tablet.)
The best answer I can give you is to offer you a checklist of various features. If you can say "yes" to most, if not all, of them, then the Note might be worth the cost for you.
1) Your eyes like E-Ink much more than LED.
2) You want a device light enough for lengthy ebook reading sessions, yet large enough to comfortably read pdfs.
3) You want the ability to install apps of your choice (Instapaper, Moon Reader, Outlook, Office, whatever...)
4) A frontlight is not essential.
5) A sd card slot is not essential.
6) Bluetooth capability is important.
7) Note-taking with a stylus is important to you.
8) Audio capability is useful to you.
9) You find the older crop of E-Ink devices too slow.
There may be other features you may value, but this will do as a general checklist. Then you can see for yourself if the Note is worth the money or not.
Please we need root!!!! I was not able to get root with my firmware!!!!

I bought my device from here.
I don't have OneNote installed on my device. However, if you check out the Onyx threads on Mobileread, you'll find reports that there is a significant lag when someone takes notes with OneNote, or any third party app. The stock Note app works much better - but that doesn't help you, unfortunately.
I don't use the note-taking functions very much, other that annotations and the like on pdfs.

The Android applications for taking notes are not ready for this device yet (if they use the Note's SDK, that will be much different history), they have a lot of lag, but instead you can use the built in note application and the is like writing in paper.
I use it to read book and the web.
Need help
Guys, thanks a lot for answers. Actually I need an e-ink device on Android with a big screen and capable to run the app JW Library. But because this devise is new on the market, I am afraid to spent the money (and it is not a cheap one) and discover that it can not run this app smoothly. I have a Kindle Paper White and I love it, but its screen is too small and it is not an Android.
May I ask you guys a favor?
Could someone of you guys to install this app from Google Store and to download just some magazines and books and to try to turn pages, to click on references and to see how it works (the app does not require registration). I think with 2 Gb of RAM and 4 core proc. it should work smoothly as much as the e-ink screen allows, but I am afraid to buy it and discover that this app is too heavy for the Note and its software.
Please, I need a help with this.
Thank you in advance for the help!
P.S.: It would be great if someone could attache a picture of the Note with this app working/opened if it is not too much to ask for.
I might be able to try it tomorrow. One of the main reasons why I bought the Note was its ability to run the Logos Bible Software app - and the Note runs it perfectly. I'll see what I can do about pics. I can attach screenshots as well.
ERASED.
citytrader said:
I did the test, is not like turning pages because the application has the scroll vertical and the experience was smooth (smooth as an eink allows), the experience was like Galaxy TAB S with a display a bit slower than the Galaxy.
This device for reading is really amazing, I believe till now is the best in the market.
The screenshots are in the attachment.

After one of the firmware updates, I was unable to get root again. So Onyx must have changed something, which made it harder to root the device. To be honest, I think I lucked out in getting root in the first place!
Yes, you'd think that Marshmallow would have plenty of holes in it! But I haven't seen anyone else get root on a Note, either, since then.
If anyone else reading this has, please tell us how you did it!

Just to confirm what @Windsor1959 encountered that previously I was able to obtain root through Kingroot. Recently I updated the firmware for my Onyx Boox Note and I tried to root again with Kingroot but was not successful. I encounter this post while I am searching for method to root it again (very unlikely at this point).
If anyone is still interested.
