Hi, I'm posting this here because my post count is too low to post in the Development section.
I'm currently using OpenKirin LineageOS Beta 5, which says that it has notch support for the P20 Lite. While the status bar is bigger to take up the space of the notch, the ROM still doesn't fully recognize it, or the fact that the display is rounded. Icons from the status bar can get cut off if there's too many, and fullscreen apps which hide the status bar can go into the area of the notch, making them harder to use. And icons at the edge of the status bar also get cut off, because the ROM thinks the display is square. Is there any way to make it fully recognize the notch, and the shape of the display?
No
there are bugy notch support on like every android 8 rom, but it are fixed on android 9 custom roms which supports emui 8 vendor.
duno for all androdi 9 custom rom, but in phh treble image based roms notch works perfect!

Odd, I tried the Android 9 OpenKirin images, and the notch didn't work there :/ I guess I'll wait until they release new builds.

Jeah, open Kirin optimise for Huawei devices, and don't use phh base treble , great ROM for p20 lite are descendant , but as I get it now, not every p20 lite can run it, so, better wait emui 9 , soon to be ..

Miui 10 8.11.1 Android Pie: http://bigota.d.miui.com/8.11.1/miui_MI8Global_8.11.1_ed2903c393_9.0.zip
What's the changelog?
Sent from my MI 8 using Tapatalk
Maybe it has ARB, so keep eyes opens (on xiaomi.eu the new roms based on android 9 are marked with “Anti Roll Back” )
Looks like its still android 8.1 by the filename.
I flashed this. This is also global beta, but the closed nightly one. I am unsure of the changelog (no permission)
I've read some comments saying the number at the end of the ROM file represents the Android version (It's still 8.x Oreo).
miui_MI8Global_8.9.4_5162352d78_8.1.zip
According to the mi forums there are just some bug fixes. Nothing new at all. The software developers of Xiaomi are seriously a joke. There's still no official stable even after three months after release of their allegedly flagship that got unveiled with MIUI 10. The Chinese and global version differs in features (Chinese shows WhatsApp notifications in the Always On screen for example), the cheap ass Mi8se got miui10 already, but the flagship doesn't, ok Google never worked in any Rom so far and not to forget the whole discussion about bootloader's or GPS. It's a ridiculous failure so far in my opinion

I need tonwait 720 hours to unlock. Is it ok to flash it via updatet or better to wait for the fastboot/unlocked bl?
just flash via updater like me. just make sure u have a global version mi 8.
Is it really based on Android 9.0?
It's not, how do you get that idea? Funny thing is, that the roms get worse with every update IMHO. The best working so far was actually 8.8.7. With 8.8.21 some of the gestures stopped working and the AOD flashed white before activating, additionally it became slow and laggy after some time without reboot. The AOD is fixed now, gestures still doesn't fully work, same goes for "ok Google". Why the Chinese version supported WhatsApp notifications in the AOD and the global doesn't is another oddity. I'm not impressed.
Fastboot link: http://bigota.d.miui.com/8.9.6/dipper_global_images_8.9.6_20180906.0000.00_8.1_global_f75c6cea8d.tgz
Will data be erased if I update from updater? I am still on latest global stable.

It's android 9 to have anti-roll back, we are still on 8.1 there. Should HAVE NOT the ARB.

Its still 8.1, are you sure?
Global 8.9.6 is still Oreo. To be exact: 8.1.0 OPM 171019.026 Tapping 8.1.0 shows Oreo cookie. Hope that answers.
So here is my dilemma :
I really would like Android 9 Pie, (I was thinking LOS 16) for a variety of reasons :
The Google Camera 6.1 is intended for Android 9+, (yes I know BSG is working on making it compatible with 8.x) (I tried it on MIUI 10 based on Android 8.1, and if you install it as an update to his 5.3 version, panoramas and video work. (no normal pictures, no Portrait ) So having LOS 16 would mean not having to wait for Xiaomi to update MIUI to Android 9, and whatever they say, the visual change wont be so striking as with MIUI 9 --> 10, so I don't think that's top on their list.
Digital Wellbeing would be pretty useful, and from what I heard it wont be in MIUI 10 Android 9 (whenever that comes out)
But I'm holding back for a variety of other reasons :
Being on LOS 16 would mean getting Gcam 6.1, but also losing the stock MIUI photo app, that I still use :
Whenever I'm in a situation where it's image processing is more fitting, (night for example; Gcam spurts shaky blurred photos)
For Slo-Motion and Timelapse
The video mode has incredible stabilization that Gcam does not have.
I also use the manual mode for long exposure times etc.
So are there ports of the MIUI cam for other ROMs?
The TWRP build isn't an official one yet, (from what I understood that means it can't handle decryption, so would erase the device?) I'm fine with that but would there be any other possible problems?
My biggest fear actually is that if for whatever reason I want to come back to MIUI, I'm not sure I would be able to do that. I mean, I think I know in theory how to do that, it's just that
The different ROMs you can find here (that's where I downloaded MIUI 10, but I updated from the settings > three dot menu > choose package ; with what I had downloaded) Can those be installed from TWRP, if I want to revert?
So there goes, I haven't written everything bugging me, but these are the main things,
MIUI Cam for LOS? (and other ROMs)
Reverting
I would really like to hear what all of you think.

It's real easy to revert to stock/MIUI. Just use TWRP to backup your entire stock system image before flashing LOS, then if you ever want to go back just restore from there.

Now we have a twrp version that handles the encryption of miui. So, no need to worry about this!
You're overanalyzing things. Switching a ROM is a matter of minutes so it's very easy to go back if you don't like it. About the camera... Tbh, I prefer Gcam for its wonderful low light shots and much sharper photography in general. I'll miss slow motion and the manual mode but it's not that big a deal for me anyway.
you dont have to use custom roms, i am myself using miui rom as it is the best for me right now. have tried others rom but always back to miui, i flash globe miui rom which has some of the bloat removed and its pretty good.
I would suggest to try the roms you are looking for. Try miui9, Miui10 , LOS16 whatever and get the one which fits the best for your needs. That's the way I did. I am no on los16 and it's damn good. I like the pie stock and Volte is working. Now the Gcam mods are working since the last update even the new 6.1 is working. And due to working TWRP you can switch roms in minutes....

If I want digital wellbeing or any other pie-specific feature, I *do* need a custom ROM as MIUI isn't on pie yet.
is there a way to take long exposure photos with the L0s 16?
well i wanted to ask the same thing .. is it worth it to change between roms .. i mean do the touch and keyboard improves on other unofficial roms ?!
I would suggest stick to the stock for now. As pie build is just around the corner. And after that we can expect gcam to work fine. There would also be fix for touch sensitivity in the stock update.
Now, before switching to poco I was on custom roms for more than a year as stock was filled with bugs(zuk z2). And the most annoying drawback that I faced was that every now and then some app would detect root and won't work. This happens even with magisk safety net and magisk hide. So using a phone with that issue as a daily driver is really annoying. Apart from that for a custom rom there are monthly updates which always recommend clean flash although you can get away with dirty flashed but still. One positive side is stock android experience is always amazing and nothing can replace that. In my opinion stock android feels way more polished and classy compares to MIUI or any other non aosp based rom. But if you want to use your phone as your daily driver then I would suggest you to stick to stock rom for now at least.

@Lupin The Third thank you dear sir, you are a life savior ?
So, Xiaomi just released their plan of updating their Chinese devices on MIUI 11. You can find the plan on their homepage here (scroll to the bottom)
As you can clearly tell, Mi Pad 4 is not on the list (neither is Mi Pad 4 Plus), so unless they change their mind, we're stuck with what we already have.
Thats utterly incredible incompetence...
If it would stick with 8.1 Android ok... but at least MIUI 11
Will it be possible to develop unofficial MIUI 11 or Android 9 and 10 roms if they release sources?

Mi 8 Lite/Youth is getting MIUI11 in the first batch, it also uses Snapdragon 660.
As well as Redmi Note 7, Mi 6X,...
I am really courious what devs maybe can do with it.
We should waiting on Friday. I think we'll got MIUI 11.

Pixel Experience Plus on Android 9 will keep getting monthly security updates and a few new features at least until the end of the year.
Meanwhile, our friend @rcstar6696 is working hard to get us some Android 10.

I agree with gaja22.
I'm seriusly thinking about to switch to Pixel Experience Rom for many months. I have 2 questions:
1. What are the difference between Pixel Experience and Pixel Experience Plus roms? I'd like to use a stock rom without developers personalizations.
2. Are OTA updates available or I have to install manually every new update?
Thanks in advance for tour support.

1. The difference between Pixel Experience and Pixel Experience Plus is that the Plus version has a few extra features, while maintaining overall the Pixel feel. Some of the features on the Plus include Navigation Button Invert Layout. integrated Screen and Sound Recorder, Status Bar Customization and many more.
Currently the 2 variants are maintained by 2 different developers.
2. OTA Updates are currently not available for neither Pixel Experience, nor for the Pixel Experience Plus.

I'll upload it only when I'll get Android 10 MIUI 11 to work and most/all bugs will be fixed. Official Pie vendor from Xiaomi would help a lot, but seems like Xiaomi doesn't care at all about their tablets.
Right now I have to stabilise Pie vendor, then I'll try different bases to see which one will work best, and after that I'll try to upgrade Pie vendor to Android 10. It's a ton of work but in the end we hopefully will have mostly working MIUI 11 Android 10.
I've been using Pie MIUI 11 for a day now and it's really amazing. But we all want Android 10
I'll post pics as soon as Android 10 MIUI 11 boots. (Might take a while as I just realised Q needs System as root)

It's a shame... Not one year and half released...
I've been sticking to Pie bases custom roms till the time Android 10 roms become stable. Now I notice, many have changed their status to stable from beta, so was wondering if I should take the plunge now. Normally, I don't wait that long as have been flash junky previously but these days I have some work related apps on my phone, some of which can't be backed up and require support from IT team of my org to set it back up.
I've been going through threads of some a10 custom roms (cr, havoc, etc) and noticed some common bugs:
1. SELinux status - Don't care
2. Volte issues on some networks - It is imp. Does volte work without any issues on Jio (india) and preferably Idea/VF too (on both sims)
3. Encryption - Don't care, I mostly flash DFE anyway
4. Whatsapp Audio calls - Important. Some mentioned audio not coming correctly
5. Magisk - unable to pass safetynet. Although imp but not a show stopper
6. v4a - important. But i think its working now with some workarounds
7. f2fs - I think it works but just to confirm otherwise i have to format the storage
Are there any other bug besides this? And what is status for 2 and 4? If anyone can also comment on battery life and overall stability compared to Pie it will be helpful
its not long enough to start expecting fully backed custom rom on Android 10. I remember the switch from Oreo to Pie was disaster too! where from P to Q its much smoother.
this is why many (including myself) is currently on update suported version of Pie (Crdroid) and AOSIP (akhil narang) released latest build yesterday which is on PIE too.
frankly I will give atleast couple of months in order to have all Dirty Unicorn Customizations & other cosmetic affects to work properly!

Yes, already superior OS gsi Rom based on Android 13
I tried installing other roms but nothing is working
I would imagine this is just an issue with generic ROMs not being properly customised for this device, as this behaviour is tricky for ROMs to get right. You'll only be able to tell if it's a hardware issue or not by going back to stock and seeing if it still happens.

i already have a13 and i have following problems:
-miracast
-offline charging (question Mark inside battery icon)
-lagging even in 90hz. I already fixed that disabling HW overlays in treble settings. I had one GSI that didn't require to disable these overlays, so it's suspicious to me
-No LTE+ (just LTE, in stock it just works)
-screen recording
I don't know any other bugs, I already didn't discovered any other
the offline charging problem is safe a problem fro the custom rom.
the problem with 90hz is that many apps fixed to 60fps and then result is very lagging apps.
try variable hz magisk module: https://t.me/RedmiNote11S_Community/9785
only cherishOS A13
Evolution 7.5
and Derpfest (but the latest "test" release) running smooth without disable hw-overlays. idk why..
things they better work in gsi rather than miui:
better sound from speaker and no f*** "switchhopping" between soundmodes caused by a faulty proximity-sensor
better call audio (clearence)
performance in gaming (Evolution 7.5)
