Hi,
I'm having this messaging app bug tht creates an undeletable empty 'draft' message. The messages kept piling up and they're really bugging me. I flashed the stock firmware once n after restoring my backups, they were gone. But after a while, they reappear back. Somehow 'My BackupRoot' app doesnt save the bugs in the backup so, maybe there's a way to stop this bug. Thanks.
I am on Meanrom 6.5. Messenger will crash almost daily, and all of my messages will be deleted. Sometimes the messages will just delete themselves without it crashing. This has happened on UREVO rom also. I also have the new firmware but still on ICS, with original HBOOT and TWRP, I am wondering why this may be? I have messages set to not auto delete. I do NOT have any other messenger apps. I keep losing my saved drafts which have a lot of my comedy routines and idea's on.
Anyone have any idea why it keeps crashing?

Hello all,
I've searched the forum, but posts either have not been answered or the solutions are not helping.
The issue here is that when I turn on the device, go to contacts and they are all there. After some time, may be 5-10 mins, someone calls me or texts or I go to contacts myself, there are no names stored, except for the device owner (me).
What I have tried to do:
- restart the device to see contacts (yes, that helps, but I don't want to restart my device everytime I want to make a call or receive a text message)
- from settings>applications>all tab>contacts => close application and clear cache buttons (not sure how they are in English), go to contacts app choose account which do I want to sync from, in my case its Google only, press sync contacts and voila, they are there. However, for only a few minutes again. If you repeat syncing without closing program and clearing cache, then it will not help.
- filter - doesn't help. Either Google option has many suboptions but no contacts or Google option is there but no sublists (i.e. all contacts, family, friends etc.)
- all my contacts ARE in Google account, which I can see via google.com/contacts - so this isn't the problem.
- device sometimes doesn't want to sync. it does not say it has not been synced, but I can see that the "Last time" it was synced was when it really synced contacts that I could see them, but not just now.
I do not want to use any "aftermarket" apps to view contacts, as I want my device to be as stock as possible.
The first day I bought PadFone 2 it advised me to upgrade to 4.1.1 Android, which I did, so I don't know whether it did work before.
Hope someone can help.
Sincerely,
Problem solved:
Uninstall your whatsapp messenger and the problem should be resolved on your padfone 2.
The problem is the conflict of address books of your native contacts app and of whatsapp contacts. They seem to be stored in the same directory.

You can use Kik messenger instead.
Indeed theproblem was caused by whatsapp messenger conflict. At least thats what asus support told me. So we now need to wait for whatsapp to solve this problem. Whatsapp dev team, can you hear me?

There are also something else that causes problem. It happens to me again and I'm not sure what it is. Maybe Friendcaster or BuddyBuzz.

Not sure, as i do not have accounts assigned to these apps. Try removing your account info from buddybuz, then friendcaster. I dont think its buddybuzs problem, as it is a native app.
Anyone knows how to right a support request to whatsapp? No one seems to read their e-mail or twitter.
Uninstalled Whatsapp..still not working
Hey guys, I have uninstalled my Whatsapp, but it seems like the problem is still not solved. Have you guys had any luck with getting your contacts to work after uninstalling Whtasapp?
Perhaps its because I downloaded Kakao talk? it sucks anyways, because I am in a distance relationship (different countries) and we need to be able to keep contact either through Whatsapp or similar apps... if this will be a problem, then we will have a problem.
are you guys sure that this doesnt have anything to do with android it self?
Same for me here!!

Yes, this still continues to haunt my Padfone2! I´ve uninstalled WhatsApp Messenger and Everything worked nicely for about 10 minutes an then the error showd up again, this time with "FC" of Contacts.
I also have some other applications that tries to put in data in my Contacts and its:
- LinkedIn
- FB
- Skype
And I Think all of them ask "you" to sync with your Contacts - it might be some of those as well? I´ll have a go and uninstall them and then see what happends.

What I finally did was that I did a factory reset on the Padfone 2 and then started with installing WhatsApp first together with FB, Linkedin and Twitter (did not let FB, Linkedn and Twitter sync with my Contacts).
Then I connected to my Exchange 2010 at work and then finally everything was working smooth again.
Regards Zeb

How do you prevent you phone from syncing with FB ?
Same problem here and I don't use WhatsApp, FaceBook, Linkedin, Twitter or any other similar apps for that matter. I also have problem with contacts gets duplicated and the alphabetic order does not work at all.
I have now inactivated Google contacts and only store my contacts on the device and they seems to stay put now but the sorting and duplicating problem remains.
Something has to be done about this since this make the phone not very much of a phone...

Under "Accounts" in settings, there you can find your account for "Facebook". Click it and then untick the sychronize with Contacts.

Same problem, my solution
My Padfone 2 is now more than a half year old.
It keeps doing this "contact deleting thing" once a month! My Padfone 2 is now more than a half year old.
It keeps doing this "contact deleting thing" once a month!
My solution though is that go to contacts. Show contacts, uncheck FB, Twitter, Exchange mails. Everything except my Google Contacts.
I have all my Contact there.
After that I restart my phone,I do a complete Google Sync. Waiting for 5 minuts. And then all my contacts are back to normal.
But this is a very annoying habit the Padfone 2 has!
I really hope this will be fixed in a firmware update from ASUS.
This is my present firmware and Android version :
Android 4.1.1
Basebandversion M3.13.31-A68_101034
Touch Firmwareversion 1115991-30303033
sync google accounts
It's been a while since I've been through this, but unfortunately I have a similar problem. My problem is "Google account" in accounts and sync. But I can only select google photos when I click on the sync mark. No selection box for contacts. How can I fix that?
The device has clone s3 and ics 4.0.4 on it. The gapps packages available for this release also do not work. It does not synchronize people in any case. I cleaned the data from the applications, I deleted Accounts.db and reinstalled it.
Finally, I found the following lines for Accounts.xml and added it, but still there is no positive situation. What else can I do? Thank you.
Syncable = "true"> <authority id = "3" account = ".." type = "com.google" authority = "com.android.contacts"
<PeriodicSync period = "86400" />
</ Authority>
All of sudden I've been having issues with SMS crashing messaging apps. I regularly use Hangouts, though I tried using Google Messenger as well to fix this issue. It seems that whenever I open a conversation that involves SMS, the app will say that it has stopped. However, Hangout conversations and MMS(group conversations) don't crash the app. Any ideas on how I can fix this issue without wiping the messages?
I do have root and a custom recovery available if a fix would involve it. This is on a 1stG Moto X on 4.4.4

It sounds like something corrupted your sms data base. My advise would be to use an app to back them up then wipe the data of sms app to clear it out and test. Them restore and test again. This happens when people restore sms logs.
I've been using whatsapp on a samsung gs5. I'm in the process of moving over to a samsung gs7. (I have already registered the new sim card.) I backed up whatsapp on the old phone using google drive. The backup completed without any error. Then I opened whatsapp on the new phone and verified the number. I understood whatsapp was supposed to automatically restore the chats and media from google drive, but that didn't happen. Whatsapp created a new database and I started receiving messages right away. I copied the entire whatsapp folder off the old phone, backed up the new folder and moved the old folder into place. Whatsapp did not load it. None of the chats or media were visible. I was going to deinstall and reinstall whatsapp, but it's pre-installed on my phone so I can't do that. Is there a way to restore the chats and media from the old phone onto the new phone, preferably preserving the new chats and media? I emailed whatsapp support, but they take forever to respond so I'm trying here.
I've done it many times without any problem.
I've done it both ways, using Drive backup and copying folders across manually.
Easiest way is to just copy the whole WhatsApp folder across to the new device BEFORE you install WhatsApp.
So maybe you could uninstall the app, copy the folder across from your old device, then reinstall it.

Thanks for the reply. Whatsapp was preinstalled on my phone. I can't uninstall / reinstall it. Before I started whatsapp on the new device for the first time, I backed up the old device to google drive. When I started it on the new device, it sent a verification sms and started, but it did not restore from google drive. I immediately started receiving new messages. So now I have the old device with two years of chats and media. I tried moving the entire whatsapp folder onto the new device, but it did not load. I don't know how to restore the previous chats and media and I also don't know how to preserve the new chats and media.

Are you sure that you can't uninstall WhatsApp?
When you have your Google Account configured and you start WhatsApp for the first time it asks you for a restore.

I can disable and force stop, but not uninstall. As far as I know google drive was operational, but when I started whatsapp for the first time, it did not offer to restore. There is no option anywhere I can see to restore. For an app with such high usage, the developers seem to be pretty brain-dead about some obvious functionality.

Have you considered to root your phone and uninstall WhatsApp? Is the first time that I see WhatsApp is pre-installed. Even so, you have all the reason, should be an option to restore instantly.

Thanks for the reply. I'd love to root my phone, but I can't. It's a company phone and the intranet software we are using would not run on a rooted phone. Not sure if it's Samsung or Bell Mobility that pre-installed what's app, but it's not possible to uninstall it.
I finally received a response from whatsapp support. There is no way to restore the chats and media from before the account was transferred to the new device, at least not without losing everything since. What a f*cking brain-damaged feature. Thanks for nothing, whatsapp support.
