Tip for any UK users not getting Android 9 Pie update - Honor 10 Questions & Answers

Been patiently waiting for the Pie update, manually checking every couple of days to no avail.
I'm on Giffgaff btw.
Put an unregistered Asda Mobile sim (free if you order it on line) in the second slot, disabled Sim 1 (the Giffgaff one) checked for update and Bob's your uncle, update received. Rechecked after install and got the patch update also.
Disabled the Asda sim, re-enabled the Giffgaff and away we go.
Apologies if this has been covered before but thought it may help someone.

Thanks for the tip
I had tried system update less than 30mins before reading this. As always it was telling me I was on latest version. On o2 and had an unused ee sim, followed above. Yep it worked for me.

After reading this, I ordered myself a EE sim as I'm on Giffgaff and wasn't seeing the update. Tried the steps above and it works perfectly, thanks!

Glad it worked.
I imagine just swapping out sims would do the trick but thought it best to state my steps, just in case.

This must be a top pinned post!!!!!! Working!!!! I removed my giffgaff sim, inserted my dead hungarian t-mobile sim to slot 2, restarted phone, checked for update pie update immediately found. This is ridiculous. Thank you so much for the tip!!

Would you Adam and Eve it, it worked.
I was already on pie but without the patch update, disabled sim 1 checked for a update and there was the patch update.
Thank you and thanks given.

Update: using this method again there's a further update available (9.0.0.162) - this one is also showing up using HiSuite. Not listed on Firmware Finder for me.

[Q] When my Droid Pro will get Gingerbread ?

I got imported Verizon Droid Pro and I live in Turkey. Also I bought the phone second hand (probably unlocked with some kind of software). I did some things on the day I bought it, even installed Gingerbread manually and rooted it. Most of the time I was unable to receive calls. So I decided to do a factory reset. After reset phone began to ask for activation number that may be taken from Verizon. I don't know if first owner did this. I some kind of "by-passed" activation screen by touching the corners etc. After that I put in my own AVEA sim card. Phone found 2 OTA updates and I installed them effortlessly.
Here is my question:
Its told that Gingerbread update is being sent to Droid Pros officially as OTA. The date 31 May seems to be the day it started. Although my phone got 2 updates at the beginning, none of them is for Gingerbread.
Its 28 September and my phone is still 2.2.1 (Froyo).
Am I wrong about expected updates, is my phone wrong about saying its up-to-date when system update is controlled or is it Verizon ?
I'm confused, please help me on this not found official Gingerbread update
Go here: http://www.androidtotal.com/manually-download-install-android-2.3.3-update-motorola-droid-pro/ . This should solve your problem.
I already did the exact same thing with same steps but I had severe in-call problems. Its been told around the web that Droid Pro is getting OTA Gingerbread update officially but why I don't have that since than ? Should every Droid Pro user do this manually, I guess no ?
This manual update is the EXACT update which would have come automatically. So this should work just as well as the automatic one since it's the same thing.
I just wonder why my Droid Pro does not find any updates since months although its available to some owners. I did that so-called update manually and it almost ruined my phone. I guess Verizon is editing a new update just for me

Highly unlikely . You mentioned a SIM card in your first post. How are you using one if the device is a CDMA device?

My sim card was not in while I did factory reset.
After it is completed I put in the SIM card and powered on the phone (I don't remember exactly if sim card was in or not), it asked me for the Verizon activation code.
I bypassed the screen with touching - upper left - upper right - down right - down left (some kind of witchcraft you see).
Just entered my SIM password and got full control of the phone. Its not rooted or so. Successfully received 2 OTA updates for Froyo.
After that moment Verizon got afraid of my skills and never bothered me
I think I will not manually install the update. Challange accepted, I will wait for it

Yes, it supports as seen. Its also choosable in the settings. I don't know why it got 2 updates at the very beginnig but neglected Gingerbread
How can I backup my phone completely in case I don't like manually installed ROM ? My phone is not rooted and I don't want to. I experienced it

[Q] After Updating latest samsung update My phone is now 100% roaming ?

I have not moved or changed locations or anything but after updating the newest samsung firmware (on friday) my phone is now 100% of the time roaming. I've checked the network settings and it says Tmobile in there as it should (i'm on Tmobile in america with the i9300).
Is there something i did wrong? I updated it with Kies, what can i do to downgrade back to the old firmware if i get tired of this roaming business?
try changing your modem

I am not sure, but its funny my friend has the BLUE i9300 bought 3 weeks after mine, and he was not getting a notification of the update via kies either, but it did give it to me and my phone the exact day it was out (uk firmware).
about changing the modem, will I need to root for that? i prefer to run stock for now..
that's bizarre but it probably has something to do with the phone being an internation model with a uk csc, but i've used my S1 from the uk several times in the u.s. with t-mobile and never had that problem .....can only assume it is a bug

Yea becuase when the phone arrived it worked great (even had a minor firmware upgrade the day i opened which was like june 15th ish or a few days later) and still worked great, no Roaming at all, then with last weeks update now it roams
It's worth pointing out that changing the modem will not work as a valid solution in this case. If one uses a non-LFB modem with the LFB ROM, the mic doesn't get used. One would have to also go to an older rom in addition to a different modem.
I'm having the same exact issue.
Need a solution.
Tried a factory reset. No dice.
Hi guys,
Didn`t find answer for my questions, so decided to link myself to similar topic.
Since the SW update I have done today my phone doesn`t lock to a network
When I go to settings to find a carrier manually, It takes about 2 minutes to find 4-5 networks available around, I am picking o2 UK (as I have a contract with them) and it says : Registering to o2 UK which takes about 4 minutes. After this it says : Emergency calls only and there is no status bars at all.
Master reset didn`t help.
What steps should I take ?
For you reference :
- Phone took from CPW in UK as sim free
- SIM Card used is from o2 UK (contract)
- I don`t want to flash anything, I would like to stay to stock ROM (if possible)
UPDATE : Chosen `Select Automaticly` allowed the phone to find signal, could make a call etc, but after 30 minutes lost signal again....

on AT&T / same firmware, no roaming issues.
Any fixes for this issue?

U Using it in india? Which network u using?
Any updates?
I did find out that the CSC that was applied by default was KOR. I went in and changed this to BTU using *#272*imei#, but still did not solve the issue.
Wondering if a repartition would help?

If u do not wish to root then your only option is to take it back to the store, so they can fix, u bought the best smart phone available on the market and u can't make phone calls or browse internet(without wifi).
To my understanding, still no resolution on this..
My friends phone after being updated (he just got his first update after having the phone a month) is now roaming as well.. So this is definately something either with our network (t-mobile) or the recent updates.
I've just started living with it, but it sucks becuase it does silly things like makes me click 'download image' when someone sends me a picture message in text...
with the few bugs could be ironed out of this phone kinda frustrating.
I do have similar problems since I installed an update 2 weeks ago. at home the phone says it is roaming at work approx 6 miles away and with a different station I am connecting to it is fine.

Thats interesting, no matter where I go i get roaming. Though a few times I have gotten the 'roaming' warning popped up, so maybe i went out of roaming and didnt know it? I'll keep a closer eye on it.
It is very frustrating and annoying. I've called T-Mobile and they said they would open a case with Samsung. If you guys could call too, we might get a fix.
I really suspect it is something in the CSC. Maybe if we could get the T Mobile SIII CSC and apply it?

My suspicion is wrong. I pulled the TMB CSC from a T999 ROM and manually copied it to /system/csc/TMB, then used the CSC Selector App to change to TMB.
No dice. Still in Roaming.

Preparing sim... Problem with HTC DROID DNA

Good afternoon. And sorry for NOOB question. But!
I tried a lot of suggestions from this forum to solve my problem - but still can't open CID.
So - let me explain the problem - I've bought a phone in USA and using it in Russia. Starting ftom the first day the phone epprox. 1 time per 1-2 hours lost the connections and show sign "preparing sim" - At that time I can't call, can't send sms or using internet. Plus as well I can't update it - because I have no CDMA connection in Russia. Plus sometimes probably when this problem happens during talking - my opponent hear me so worth so sometimes better to call again.
That's a description of my Droid DNA:
Android 4.1.1.
Software # 1.15.605.4 710RD
PRI 1.98_002
I will so much appreciate if somebody will help me with that. Thank you!!!

Regarding the sim problem, it sounds like you are experiencing what other have experienced here in the USA. Some people have had success taking the sim out and then putting it back in (and maybe cleaning the sim with an eraser on the back of a pencil). Others have had to get another sim card from their provider.
About the update - you have 3 options:
1 - unlock, root, and s-off your phone - then you can install the updates manually (this is what I would do)
2 - some others have had success removing the sim (and setting the phone to CDMA in Settings:Callreferred Network) and then connecting to wifi
3 - wait for the update "ruu" file to be released/leaked

Thanks for the answer!
I try to put another sim, same as sim of different operators.
Number 1 - I can't root - CID does not work.
Number 2 - try to do - phone looking for an updates - but without any unswer
Number 3 - Can you explain what is it?
According to both Verizon and HTC, there was a known issue with the phone software and not being able to read the SIM card. It happened to mine about ten times every week until an update was released to supposedly fix it in February. I still get the error from time to time, but far less than I did previously. If you've rooted and flashed a ROM prior to February, I would suggest making a backup and restoring the phone back to stock. Once you've done this, do the update to the new firmware and then reroot and restore from your backup. This should, I think, fix most SIM issues.

Update with at&t sim

I have been waiting months to see my dad to use his at&t sim card so I can try to update this phone to nougat. Well I'm finally with him at a party. I insert the SIM card reboot and it says at&t. I goto setting software update and get a message that says no update. Try again in 24 hours.
I'm having the same problem. I have a T-Mobile SIM. I put in the att sim and I get the same thing. I don't know if it needs to be in the phone for a certain amount of time? Any update?
i think on my g3 i had to firmware reset the phone first, with the att sim in it.
also, you can change the date of the phone and it will bypass the 24 hour check thing

Sometimes it does need to be in the phone for longer than a hour or so. And sometimes a factory reset may need to be done. Its touchy.
Just change your date and/or time in your settings to at least 24 hours before you tried the update. Old trick works.

Sim-Free Huawei Mate 10 Pro (UK)

I've purchased sim-free Mate 10 Pro via CPW in the UK.
I've inserted a 3 sim card and phone reported detected local sim and installed some of the 3 apps and enabled wifi calling.
When I do the following - *#*#2846579#*#* then option 3, then option 4.
It shows as being H3G-GB, so has my phone automatically rebranded itself (and now sim-locked to a network) and if i change provider at later date will a replacement sim work and the branding change
I'm on three, and also noticed that as soon as I put in my three sim it downloaded the three splash screen and a couple of garbage apps that you can't uninstall.
It also does similar (not sure about splash screens) with O2 and Vodafone sims (but not EE)...
I did contact CPW about this and they stated that all their phones are sim free... it just brands itself when a sim is inserted... so I believe (but haven't tried it) that it is not sim locked to three...just branded...
Unfortunately, I do believe that some people have done a factory reset, and the three splash screen remains... so that is a bit of a bummer that you can't get rid of it !!!
If you've got a spare sim, feel free to pop it in and share the results !!!
I will contact huawei later as the phone should not get rebranded in my view - i also don't have another sim to test it with
On EE is detects the EE Sim and restarts. Installs the EE app but nothing more. It is awful that it rebrands to Three.
I've logged this with Huawei, i've got an email to send some screenshots and confirmation of purchase to them. the phone should not rebrand itself to the first sim - this i think is a huawei issue as the cpw cannot sell any three product

just an update, someone states they have just purchased the phone from CPW and inserted a 3 sim and it has not been rebranded. I have had a live chat with CPW regarding the phone and this is what they say
most of our handset locks to the first sim card that you first used with the handset and only that specific network provider can be able to assist on unlocking the handset as the handset is locked directly with them.
I do apologize, as we get the handset from the manufacture directly sim free phone however they do lock to first network used with the handset please contact three Customer Services and they will be able to assist you.

Just tried my unlocked phone bought from cpw in Nov. Was using a three sim since Nov....Did a factory reset, and then put in wife's O2 sim and it worked FINE..... Still got three splash screens, but phone appears to be still unlocked... good job or cpw were in for a big fight !!!
well the stance from CPW is that unless it is faulty they won't replace it and to determine if faulty they want to send it of for repair.
It will not lock your phone to the first sim card.
It just puts 3 splash screen on if you insert a 3 sim.
The phone is still unlocked to any network

Can confirm the above, and that inserting a sim DOES NOT lock it to the first sim card you put in... but will install the three splash screen (if it's a three sim)..
ok, just seen this on three's website - http://www.three.co.uk/discover/Three_inTouch/android-wifi-calling
this means the phones are being updated to say they were purchased through them and not a 3rd party, which then allows the wifi calling features to work.
Hi all,
I have finally received an update from Huawei
The Mate 10 Pro version sold in Carphone Warehouse is the open market version and it is exactly the same one sold by H3G.
The software version is also the same, however, this will be customized to the relevant operator depending on the SIM card that is inserted in the device for the very first time.
This customization is irreversible as per the operator's requirement, however, the device will maintain its SIM Free status.
One of the reasons behind it is to ensure the 4G/Wi-fi calling feature will be enabled on these devices. As you may know this option is not available on the unbranded/open market devices, as it requires network customization.

Thinking about getting a mate 10 Pro, sim free version from Amazon UK.
I’m on 3 sim only, are you saying if I put my sim into this handset it will rebrand it 3 and enable WiFi calling ? Does VoLTE work too?
After this the 3 branding will remain no matter what sim I use later?
Thanks.

That's my understanding from what I've read in the UK thread. I'm on Vodafone myself and recently purchased a Mate 10 Pro from Currys and I have WiFi calling working and the Vodafone Apps installed themselves, so the response from Huawei makes sense and must be the way they are doing things now.

The 3 branding will remain. There is no way of getting rid of it. Even after factory wipe the 3 splash screen remains.
However the phone still remains unlocked.
There is a setting in developer options that I believe stops this from happening if you select it before you put the SIM in.
Automatic system updates needs to be un selected
But if you un select it 3 functions like WiFi calling ect will not work as it stops the 3 updates ?
Yeah, the Amazon UK supplied Mate 10 Pros will work with wifi calling and VoLTE (worked great on EE when had my Mate 10 Pro).
I'm thinking of moving to O2 soon, and expect they'll work OK there too...
Sucks for anyone on 3, I had my EE SIM card in my Mate 10 Pro and it installed the My EE app which I use anyway, then I bought a O2 SIM card, factory reset and it downloaded a O2 app, but no splash screens or permanent rebranding, only tested it out because of this thread, I'm back on my EE SIM card now.

Official line is O2 doesn't support VoLTE or VoWiFi on Huawei phones, did you test that TheInfiniteAndroid? Not supported doesn't always mean not working...
I'm thinking of changing over to O2 because there's 4G at home on O2 but basically no signal at all on EE - have to rely on VoWiFi here, which isn't ideal.
