open up your phone (check youtube on how to do that) and put some soft 1 millimeter thick sticky electrical tape on top of the round vibrating motor on the right side besides the USB-C connector.
I used this tape: https://www.amazon.de/gp/product/B01DUI4CF2/ref=oh_aui_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1 It is 0,75mm thick self sealing electrical tape that is sticky on both sides.
The problem seems to be that the metal housing of the motor needs to be isolated from the metal back plate of the phone. metal on metal = rattling noise. No need to pull any cables. I left the fingerprint reader connection on while doing this fix.
Don't put to much tape on it though because it hardens with too much pressure on the back plate of the phone and the isolating properties are gone (rattles again)
Hope this helps someone who is looking for a solution for this. I could not find any real fix for this. The rattling noise was driving me nuts.
Thanks for this. I'll try it when I get the chance. It appears a small section of us have this problem, as I don't see many people complaining about it. The only fix I had ever used so far, was to flash a custom kernel with vibration intensity control and reducing it to around 70-ish strength.

I am totally happy with my very stable B10 + LOS15.1 and I really did not want to go through another clusterf--- of flashery again. It is differently a bad design choice. The vibration motor almost touches the "roof", the aluminum chassis. they placed a tiny round "sponge" on the roof where it touches with the motor. I bet it just looses it's elasticity over time and the motor starts slightly touching the roof.

Wow. Just noticed something really odd with the keyboard/screen, but then it could be my phone!
If put your phone on a flat surface (ie table) - try type some letters on the right/left/bottom edge - i find it not as responsive as if you typed in the middle part of the screen. But if you hold the phone in your hands, its perfectly fine!
Anyone else getting that weird problem?
Yep
Noticed the problem to.
I'm guessing there is some screen sensitivity changes when it knows its flat on a surface.
I guess its another on the list of things to fix when the release a new build (or some devs release soem cooked ROMs).
I wonder if this is related to the capacitive nature of the touchscreen? I can replicate the effect if the phone is flat on the surface and I'm only touching it with my typing finger. However, if I rest another finger on the device, or hold it lightly by the edges (still sitting flat on the surface) it works fine.
If this is the case, I doubt any rom will be able to fix it since it is likely to be the capacitive touch screen technology and not a software "fault" per se.
Regards,
Dave
I have seen this too. I wondered if it was a perspective thing - are you pressing the right part of the screen?
are you pressing the right part of the screen?

Oh yeah, looks like I am pressing the right part. It just have to be more firmer pressing those edge buttons. It doesn't matter which way the keyboard layout is.
Anyway, thanks to everyone confirming that you got the same problem. I would have thought it was hardware related, but it could be software related I suppose. Perhaps whatever software is trying to rotate the keyboard is having a hard time to work out what direction to show the keyboard is causing that weird problem
Try holding the phone between thumb and forefinger whilst it is on a flat surface and then typing. If I do this, I have no issues, but the second I remove my fingers, I then get the lack of response for the keys on the bottom row of the device.
Regards,
Dave
mines the same may be to avoid key presses in your pocket?
I have the same problem too. It isn't a problem with all capacitive screens as the iphone never used to do this (l know, I know)
So far I've found no solution, let's hope it gets a quick fix
wow, and I thought it was only me, when I put the phone on the desk, and try use my fingers it becomes really unresponsive but when I'v got it in my hand and I'm using my thumb its all fine, hmmm really weird
it's not really a fault, but more of the nature of the capacitive screen and/or software. In comparison with the iPhone, the iPhone's capacitive screen lets you type/navigate with the phone lying on a flat surface. I find that the Hero's screen requires you to apply a tiny bit more pressure and more surface-area of your finger/thumb, for it to respond. I hope HTC somehow tweak the software for this to be more responsive with less pressure/surface-area contact required so it is usable on a flat surface - don't always want to be picking my phone up to use it at work.
i confrim, using hero without touch the metal edge result in less responsivity and difficult on multitouch operation
hope new firmware can solve this, too many errors using it like a normal keyboard on a table!
Noticed the same problem when using the Hero in my In Car Holder. Makes data input into CoPilot very difficult indeed.
A couple of observations...
I actually have mine in one of those Silicon Covers - the new style 'Gel' ones (work really well and looks good too, unlike old Silicon ones). So it's not actually about having contact with metal as such.
Problem does not occure when plugged into USB.
Now this bit could just be perception rather than reality, but I tried typing while flat (USB disconnected) when touching the coated surface around the trackball and it did not seem to improve things. Trying to do the same while touching the metal area around the speaker grill did seem to improve things. You guys observing similar ?
Anyway, I'm hoping that when I have my car charger, it will fix my CoPilot problem since this should be the same as having the USB plugged in.

Size:
I've had it for a few weeks now, and I no longer feel the size of it. It almost feels like I might choose an even bigger one next time! But this is definately gonna be my daily driver for the next two years.
The back button is very hard to reach when I've got the phone in my right hand. Left-handed use is good, though.Sits nicely in the pocket of my jeans.
Chassis:
The front is gorgous, almost no bezel at all. I thought I would dislike capacative buttons, but they are no problem. The hole for the front camera is not perfectly aligned.
The back gets quite smudgy.
The power and volume buttons are so petite, they took some getting used to.
I don't like the placement of the audiojack and USB. If the audio was on the bottom I would be able to slip it into my pocket without changing my grip, but no go.
Call quality:
Yup, it's an issue. I'm gonna try to change my grip when I experience it.
Resolution:
Perfect for my eyes. I can not distinguish individual pixels.
Screen:
Very good colours and brightness. Blacks are always poor on LCD's, including this one.
Battery life:
Lasts me two days. Perfect.
I've come to believe that this:
The hole for the front camera is not perfectly aligned
is purposeful. There's some "lip" around the top portion of the hole, probably to help the light pattern in use patterns for front-facing cameras.
Now if you say that your "lip" is around the left, right, or bottom, *then* we have an issue . But I'm guessing yours is on the top also.
This is the first I'm hearing about the camera not being aligned... In practice, it works perfectly, and these things are designed with micrometers or even smaller units of measure: I don't think that misalignment is something that is likely to happen.

Yeah, the "lip" as you call it is on top of the hole, so I guess it's the same for everyone, and I'm prolly never gonna use the front camera anyways.
After working on this problem for a while now and trying a few roms with black screen on calls, finally found a 100% successful fix for about 10 Atrix i have worked on and so far issue has not returned !!
I know it is a common problem with a lot of roms where when making a call the screen goes black instantly after dialing and the proximity sensor cannot be used to wake the screen nor the volume button and no way to use numbers to choose in call options, meaning literally doing a battery pull to reboot the device.
I tried a few things thinking it helped and for a while did but the issue slowly came back but after some work and patience with the phone got it working properly, here is what i did :-
While making or receiving a call squeezed the whole top end of the phone, in other words squeeze the front and back together clamping relatively hard ( be careful not to crack the screen ) and the screen comes back on enabling in call functions and proximity sensor.
Opened phone up and checked position of proximity sensor and flat cables ( being directly inside where we were clamping in the last section ) and saw that the flat cable with the earphone connector and proximity sensor had moved away from the screen.
On the second flat cable ( the one with the touch pad ) is a sponge sticker ( placed directly on the back of the touch pad connector ) which presses directly onto the back of the proximity sensor and holds it close to the screen, which was pretty flattened, so i put on a new piece of sticky sponge on top of the old one making it thicker, to hold the proximity sensor tight to the screen.
I reassembled the phone ( put the back on and screwed it in tight ) and tried with the calls again, so far everything is great.[/COLOR]
There was also the same problem with some poorly fitted touchscreens, either where it has not been stuck into the frame well enough or the original adhesive become worn out and not sticky enough any more, so i refitted the screens with extra strong double sided adhesive and again 100% of phones with the problem still good !!
If there is a slight gap between the screen and frame it can mis-align the proximity sensor with the holes in the frame and the clear section of the screen needed for light inlet !!
Also as we all know, there are roms / kernels which produce a lot of heat in the handset, this is also a contributing factor, due to the adhesive used in fitting the touchscreen losing strength and the screen slowly moving away fromn the internal frame !!
PLEASE DO NOT TAKE MY WORD FOR GRANTED, I AM ONLY STATING WHAT HAS HELPED ME AND REMEMBER ALL DEVICES ACT AND REACT DIFFERENTLY !
I really hopes this helps you all, if it did please let me know or if you found something different it is equally important that i can try this too and we can really get to the root of the issue together !!!
i know i can stop blaming the roms now and say it's a hardware issue !!
Thanks again to the developers here for the hard work on the roms , keep it up !!! :good:
Got myself a DX, fell in love but due to the hiss I had to break up with it and returned it. Got myself a DXD (dual sim) hoping that the hiss noise would be solved, and fell in love once more, but sadly the hiss noise level was not noticeable improved.
Then all of a sudden I was struck with an idea. How would the noise be affected if I'd just applied some simple office scotch over the phone speaker? In theory higher frequencies should be more reduced by this than lower.
With little enthusiasm I applied some office tape covering the small holes + the bigger rectangular hole and called...
Guess what? The noise was almost not noticeable any more. I didn't believe my ears. I'm not surprised if you wont believe me, but try it, it wont cost you anything.
Offcourse You will loose some of the audio level, and also some of the higher frequencies, but I'd say it will not affect the frequencies of speech to any noticeable level.
So, there it is, a no cost fix for the most annoying shortcoming of this brilliant little phone.
Take a piece of tape, put it on a clean glossy surface such as glass. Use a scalpel to cut a suitable size and apply it. Press firmly. It will be almost unnoticeable. Just briefly use some alcohol and lint free cloth to remove the adhesive from the edges of the tape so it wont pick up dirt and it will last nice for quite long.
I've never been deeper in love, with a phone that is. I wonder if alcohol has anything to do with it.
In times where apps solves almost every problems, I feel very self-righteous regarding this hands on solution.
Any donations to support my audio quality development of the DX are much welcome.
Over'n out.
Cheers
Thank you for the wonderfull read haha
Might try this, although I am more bothered by the hiss over headphones... and this "fix" wont quiet work there I fear.
Got the phone today, liking it so far. I dont have any huge build quality issues, a little warping on backside of chin, but you really have to stare. Overall fairly minor when comparing it to how youtubers were reacting.
Now I did notice one thing when I pulled the battery portion OUT. When you have the battery and chin still connected to each other, and you hold it either by the battery itself or just the chin, do the two parts have a slightly loose shake between them where the plastic hooks meet? The battery functions/charges fine, but Im not sure if thats how all the g5 models are , or if they are supposed to sit tight together with no noticeable movement ?
Now just a heads up, I am shaking the battery/chin to feel the loose movement. I figure its just how the hooking system is designed where it cant be flush, but I just want to double check if I need to swap this unit out. Cosmetics are one thing, but Im not messing with a battery/chin that may give me more issues down the road.
It's fine. Relax and enjoy your new phone.
If it was flushed tight, you probably won't be able to remove the battery from the battery adapter.
You have no problem there.
