A friend gave me a T-Mobile S5 but it has no ROM installed. It boots up to recovery and I can't figure out how to get a ROM installed.
It's been a while since I have flashed a ROM but even without custom recovery like TWRP, can't I just install a ROM, even if it's just a stock, non rooted one?
I've tried via micro SD but maybe I didn't download the right file.
I'm on a Linux computer and tried pushing TWRP via USB but I can't get the computer to recognize the device.
Please help. I'd be happy with any ROM as long as I can boot up.
Attached a picture of the only thing I see when I turn it on

WOW! The G900TUVU1CNK2 was Android 4.4.2 that was released on 10 Nov 2014.
The following information is what is needed to be done to redo the whole thing from the start.
Download and Unzip the following files...
Odin PC Software:
https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=746163614322265284
Samsung USB PC Drivers:
https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=890129502657584827
Firmware for SM-G900T:

Download the following pit file...
Pit for SM-G900T:
https://www.androidfilehost.com/?w=files&flid=289576
Place the two Stock Pit file and the Stock Firmware file (the unzipped firmware will have a tar.md5 file extension) within the Odin Software Folder.
Now perform the following steps:
1) Install the Samsung USB Driver Software.
2) Once #1 has completed, be sure to have your device turned off and then press and hold the Volume Down and the Home Button (Front Bottom Center Button) and then press and hold the power button.
Release all the buttons once the first screen displays (just a warning regarding your entering Odin/Download Mode) and then press the Volume Up button just once.
Your device is now in Odin/Download Mode.
3) Connect your device to your PC via the USB Cable and wait til the PC detects and loads the device within the system.
4) Once #3 has completed, open/launch the Odin Software and then place the Firmware in the AP/PDA slot. It will hang for a moment as Odin confirms the Firmware to be good to go.
5) Once #4 has completed, select the Pit option and place the Pit file in its prospective slot.
Note: Be sure that the only options in the Odin software that are ticked/selected are the F.Reset Time and Auto-Reboot. Do Not tick/select any additional boxes.
6) Now select the "Start" button at the bottom and be patient.
Once Odin is done, your device will reboot itself and you will see a Green Box with the word 'PASS' in it.
Now you can disconnect the USB Cable from the PC and Device and it should be good to go from there.
I'm keeping my fingers crossed!
Good Luck!

THANK YOU!!!!
First of all, thank you for replying at all. An even bigger thank you for taking the time to respond with such details. I am busy this coming week but will try your methods next weekend.
I just didn't want to wait a week to thank you for being gracious.
I am concerned that the ODIN file, the only one I looked at so far is an EXE file which I don't think will run on Linux . I may be wrong so please feel free to correct me.

Your correct regarding the Odin Software being for Windows...
I haven't used Linux in a long time myself but, luckily I had remembered seeing the following thread where a member had developed an Odin for Linux.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=3777030
I don't know what the big differences are between the two myself but, don't be afraid to ask for some support and guidance within that thread specifically regarding the Odin for Linux itself.
Good Luck!

Hi,
Please forgive the newb-ness, but I could really use some help in understanding how to update my Samsung Continuum to joshkoss' "Light EC07 Rom (beta3)."
I am brand new to the vocabulary and methods and I really don't understand what everything means.
I was hoping someone could kind of walk me through the steps outlined below, and give a dumbed down explanation of exactly what to do.
I have the phone (obviously), as well as the guide below, all the files have been downloaded, and I'm ready to go.
I just need someone to give a detailed version of the steps below...
1 Flash stock EC07 using Odin.
2 Plug your phone into your computer after your phone has rebooted 2 times and then backup and format the SD card.
3 Once you are done and into EC07 Stock, copy my rom onto your sdcard so you can flash it at the end of these steps
3.5 Please flash CWM 2.5 Kernal via odin and place this update on root of your sd card and boot into cwm 2.5
4 After flashing the above, boot back into CWM and then flash my rom

Use ODIN to Flash Your Samsung Android Devices
Odin is a windows application that can be used to flash different firmware onto various Samsung Android Devices. It is vital that EVERYBODY who roots their Samsung Device knows how to use ODIN because it is often the only way to flash certain ROMs/Firmware or completely revert back to stock firmware. Also, when all else fails, it is the only way to restore a device to working condition after a partial brick or boot loop.
Setting Up ODIN
1. First you need to download the Samsung USB drivers for Windows and ins
2. THEN connect your phone to the USB. (some folks have had luck doing it in reverse..connecting the USB then Power and vol down)
tall them. They can be found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=728929 ;
3. Once it has finished, download this file: http://www.justanotherdev.slackdev.com/Odin3.rar
4. Unpack it using winrar, and place it in its own dedicated folder.
5. You now have Odin set up and you can use it whenever you need to flash your Galaxy S, providing you have some images to flash.
Preparing the Files to Flash
1. Download this file: www.justanotherdev.slackdev.com/s1_odin_20100512.rar and extract it. This is your .pit file.
2. place the file you downloaded into an easily recognizable folder(in case you need the same file a month from now)
3. Download this file now: http://www.justanotherdev.slackdev.com/T959UVJFD.tar . This is your .tar file.
4. Do not extract the file you downloaded in step 3, but move it to the same folder as the .pit file.
Booting into Download Mode and Flashing the Files
1. Open ODIN and in the PIT section, select the .pit file you downloaded.
2. In the PDA section, select the .tar file your downloaded.
3. Turn your phone off, then plug it into your computer using a USB cable.
4. Wait for the battery charging icon to appear, then press and hold the volume up, volume down, and power buttons.
5. When the screen turns black, let go of the power button, but continue to hold both volume keys.
6. You will eventually see an picture with black Android robot digging within a yellow triangle.
7. If you see something else after your phone has booted, try steps 4-6 again.
8. On your computer, if one of the COM port icons in ODIN has turned yellow, then your phone has been recognized. If not, try again from step 3.
9. If you still do not get any results, try another USB port on your computer. The ones in the back always seem to work well.
10. Press the start button and wait. If you do not see a blue progress bar on your phone after 5 minute, take out your phones battery, unplug your phone and start from step 1 again.
Hi,
Thank you for trying to help, but I need a little more clarification on the rest of the steps... can someone please help?
In step 2 of joshkoss' instructions, he tells us to.....
Plug your phone into your computer after your phone has rebooted 2 times...

The second part of joshkoss instructions tells me to...

What am I "backing up?" on the SD card??? Isn't it a blank SD card???

There ins't a custom recovery installed, this device flashes by detecting an update.img and askes to install it. It doesn't get past what would be considered the kernel screen. This tablet doesn't work like a standard android phone. There are no hard buttons except the power button, so attempting to get into any recovery is not possible. It also doen't boot enough to add any files to it.
Sounds like your screwed. Sorry.....
Please hit the thank you button if i helped!

Ok, just bricked my Nextbook 7
Here is how I flashed a firmware without access to recovery:
If you are in a bootloop, Connect USB and Power.
Press and hold pin on back until you hear windows try to detect a device but the screen is off.
Download this: http://arctablet.com/assets/tools/Fi..._Tool_v1.4.zip
Install the driver from the drivers folder.
3. Installing the drivers on the computer
Following the tablet entering in recovery mode, the computer should now show it has found a new USB device and prompt for a device driver. Select the appropriate driver in the driver directory from the Rockchip Flash Tool 1.4 package.
It will then install the driver for RK29 Device
4. Sending the firmware to the tablet
The flashing tool should display a green square around the number 1 in the lower left area of the Windows application.
Select the firmware file to flash using the button in the top right area of the application. Select the update.img file from here:
http://www.multiupload.com/NQHSNZJSO2
Then push the Upgrade button to transfer the selected firmware to the tablet.
The firmware will be copied to the tablet, a progression counter will go from 0% to 100% on this step, followed by a verification.
You are done, let the tablet reboot and update itself. It should take a few minutes for the flash process to finish.
This procedure has been successfully tested on Windows XP 32 bits for flashing a bricked NextBook 7 Premium YF1011 (but should work on others)
Help !!
Please help, got the tablet yesterday NEXT7P12 YF091211085 by flashing the official site was a brick, the tablet will not turn on, the computer does not see it.
screen moved after installing rom
Hi, i don't know if I'm on the right place but if anyone can help me, please I haw the Nextbook 7 premium and have instaled costum rom on it, but after rebooting my screen position has moved from right to left 2 cm and from up to down 1 cm , so my screen is moved I don't know why I have try to install 3 other rom and factory firmware but the screen is still moved or should I say cut. Any ideas? please I have try to google it but no luck...
I no longer have my np7 but I did try just about every ROM for it. Never have I had or seen an issue like this, and in truth I can't think of what the issue may be.
There are different np7 variants and some don't play nice with custom ROMs (built sept 2012 and older lose WiFi) so you might have a model that can only use one software due to hardware/firmware change.
There never was much development for the np7 here, I think finlessbob and others are still working on it at freaktab.com maybe see if they can help

Flashing Instructions:
This is a fiddly process so some perseverance might be required. It will work in the end. From user reports it seems to work most smoothly on the 32bit version of Windows XP.
Instructions:
- Firmware must be flashed using a Windows application called LiveSuite.
- Once downloaded, and before attaching your tablet to your PC, run the file 'LiveSuitPack_version_1.09_20111101.exe' from within the Livesuit folder. This should install a new device on your system (VID_1f3a_PID_efe8). This device may show with an exclamation mark in Windows Device Manager, this doesn't matter and can be ignored.
- Now download the firmware image you want to install. After decompressing the archive you will end up with a .img file (e.g. 'sun4i_crane_xxx.img'). This is the firmware/ROM image that you are going to flash (or copy) to the tablet.
- Without attaching your tablet to your PC run 'LiveSuit.exe' from within the Livesuit folder. You should get an application with 6 icons.
- You will be asked if you want to be guided through the process, select no.
- Click on the leftmost icon (a cube), browse to your downloaded firmware image, and select it.
- Now attach your tablet to your PC by USB cable whilst holding down the volume+ button on the top. Straight after attaching the cable, and whilst still holding down the volume+ button, start pressing the tablet power button repeatedly. This (slightly frenzied) procedure puts the tablet into update mode.
- After a few seconds you will be asked if you want to perform a forced firmware update. Select yes. You will be asked if you're sure. Select yes.
- The update will start. You can release volume+ at this point.
- The update should take approx 3 minutes to complete. You will see a % complete progress bar during the process and will get a dialog saying OK when it's done.
- Turn your tablet on and you will have the new firmware.

Now, from the Recovery Mode select Wipe data/factory reset and after that select wipe cache partition option.
Next, back on the main menu of Recovery Mode and from there select reboot system now option.
Dont forget to hit thanx

That's funny because it works for me! Are you sure you put in SGH-I717 in ALL CAPS?
Here's another method.
Download this file http://www.mediafire.com/download/g7gn29h7nu63id5/I717UCMD3_I717ATTMD3_ATT.zip
Extract (unzip) the firmware file
Download Odin v3.09
Extract Odin zip-file
Open Odin v3.09
Reboot phone in Download Mode (press and hold Home + Power + Volume Down buttons)
Connect phone and wait until you get a blue sign in Odin
Add the firmware file to AP / PDA
Make sure re-partition is NOT ticked
Click the start button, sit back and wait a few minutes

Sorry you're having trouble. I've never came across someone with a loop at optimization before. Maybe you can try to re download the file and repeat the process again. You might have a corrupt download.
