First try MHL with stock ROM and see if it works.

It could work with an active MHL adaptater (11 pins)
I saw people telling it was compatible, but no confirmation of having it working...

Samsung confirmed a while back that stating that the Vibrant had HDMI out was a mistake, the Vibrant does not support HDMI out at all ...

That might be why since the froyo rom is from i9000. I would try again with the stock rom and see if that still give you the same problem.

There's a section on this forum for questions, it's called Q&A and it's not in here. Having said that, if you used the search option here you would've found out that there's no USB OTG kernel for Evo 3D reported working yet.
This belongs into Q&A!
Is this really that hard to understand?
edit: oh someone was faster ^^

Ya thread reported.
thanks for the judging. but i needed an answer sooner as i am writing an article for a magazine and wanted a thorough answer. have been searching for all possible answers on the web and XDA. havent found a single. Leedroid reported in their latest versio about OTG enabled, but after testing it found not working. i made a OTG cable by shorting pins 4 and 5 and used it along with a USB hub. the only phone it worked on was the Sony Live with Walkman which has GB stock ROM. tried on HTC EVO 3d, Samsung Galaxy 3, Nokia Lumia, Motorola Defy and LG optimus one, but failed. i could get the keyboard and mouse working at the same time on the Sony. wanted it to work on my Evo 3D... any help would be appreciated.
Galaxy S II should have USB OTG support in Gingerbread. Galaxy S III should also have USB OTG support out of the box. I didn't have any luck in enabling USB OTG on the Evo 3D. Double check your cable, some of those phones should have USB OTG support.

MHL not working - any ideas?

Hi guys, I got an oem MHL to hdmi cable from eBay, one specifically for the galaxy s3.
I received it today and while the phone seems to detect it's attached to a screen (audio set to hdmi out, landscape mode), the two devices I can connect it to both register nothing connected.
Is there something missing? The first device is a monitor using a hdmi to dvi adapter, the second is a 720p tv with hdmi in. The tv allows me to select the hdmi it's plugged into but says there's no signal.
Does anyone have any ideas?

maybe the adapter does not work with the S3 after all.
Maybe you will find some solution in the accessories threat or here
Can you post up the link to the advert you bought it from?

Thanks. I think it should work, the item description is pretty clear.. http://item.mobileweb.ebay.com.au/viewitem?itemId=200829302467
I might see if I can test it on some more tvs. There was a suggestion it may not work with a 720p device.
Sad thing is, they're all Samsung screens.
Are you powering the device from another USB port.
All MHL adapters and cables for the Galaxy S2/3 need to be powered by an external USB port.

Ok it looks like it might be an issue with the ROM, using an AOKP build of JB 4.1.2
Apparently it doesn't support the TV out - shame, I thought I'd finally found the ROM I was going to stick with
Does anyone know a way of getting it working under AOKP?
sorry man, but only on stock roms you can use tv-out. At least for now, lets hope the sources promised for november include mhl tv-out propietary driver from samsung.

Thanks man - I might go to omega's stock-based rom and see if I can get any love with that. Cheers for the help everyone
Edit: For anyone finding this by search later, using a stock ROM does fix the issue. God I can't wait to go back to AOKP though, stock is terrible
I gotta bring this up again... i had same issues when i was on aokp roms. But now.. 4 samsung roms and numerous kernels later i cant get the MHL to work! It did work like 6months ago when i was on a sammy rom, but ever since I flashed the aokp rom once I can't get the cable work again :/ any ideas? My friend just tested the cable on note2 and the cable is fine. Pls help?

If you get the cheap ones there's a huge chance of it not working just from looking through feedback on the Internet. Just spend a bit extra and get a samsung one.
Ive tried mine on many different roms and kernels and it always works.
P.s has anyone managed to get netflix in 16.9 widescreen using the mhl adaptor on jelly bean?:crying:
It's the samsungs 1, that i bought from my carrier. And adapter is fine since my friend got it work with note 2 :/

USB OTG Trick , Would it solve our problems ?

I guess most of us faced the too much power problem with OTG cable while connecting to certain devices like usb modem or 6 axis (PlayStation 3) gamepad
I was thinking what if I used external power supply using a hub as shown in the attached pic
would it work , is there any other solution?
the pic is a method for usb otg non supporting devices like nexus s, offcorse they also need a special kernel and certain apps
sorry I'm new and can't post links
any comment is appreciated
thnks

in order to solve that problem, you must connect a powered usb hub to the phone, and the gamepad to the hub.
