GALAXY J6 (SM-J600F) Treble supported, arm/arm64 ? - Samsung Galaxy J6 Questions & Answers

Hi
I am trying to find any custom rom that could be flashed on my J600F device.
Long story short, there is not.
I learned (and checked) J6 is actually compatible with project treble.
Now, that i know i can flash GSI roms, i am still a bit confused if this device is ARM/ARM64.
Any clue ?

I don't know too much about the subject, but I read that you need GSI's that are ARM with ARM64 binders. Samsung likes using 64-bit chips to run in 32-bit mode lol

Thank you for the answer.
That's quite even more confusing unfortunately.
If anything comes up, like a GSI/Custom rom (i tried without any positive result) that you are sure it should work for the device.. PM me anytime

pls tell me what GSI rom did you install with complete package name of the rom, and link, thanks in advance. Hope you read my reply

For the record, the name that the GSI are adapting that are compatible with the J6 is called a64 or sometimes referred to as arm32_binder64
Not to be confused with arm64 which is completely 64 bits
So, the GSI are as follows:
arm - Not compatible with J6
arm64 - Not compatible with J6
a64 - Compatible with J6

Dude, there IS a tutorial on how to flash treble GSIs! You're just not willing to use a simple thing like GOOGLE!
https://www.xda-developers.com/flash-generic-system-image-project-treble-device/
Now, from what I read here is that a perquisite is that you don't have a patched boot/ramdisk aka a rooted phone.
If you have a rooted phone, you're going to have to install a fresh, unmodified kernel (boot.img) and then try it
I'll give it a try and try to post back results. I'm not familiar with how project treble works, but I doubt it's as easy as it sounds
@ShaDisNX255 plz share the result. I too have a Galaxy J6 and wanted to have an AOSP based rom in it. If u succeed, plz post it here. Not a big fan of Touchwiz.
hmm i failed myself, tried system-180818-arm-aonly-gapps.img without succes.
1. i've installed TWRP https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-j/development/recovery-twrp-3-2-2-0-galaxy-j6-on6-t3819751
2. install Resurrection Remix ARM A Only Devices (system-180818-arm-aonly-gapps.img)
3. on system image
4. reboot
result endless reboot
Samsung probably went out of their way to make it harder.
Too busy to experiment myself but from my first tests I didn't get it to work.
Oh well, so much for "Project treble making it easier"
lol

It's fairly easy to debloat using something like Super R's kitchen.
Why would you buy a J6 if you hate Touchwiz?
There are waaaaay better options that have closer to stock Android experiences than a Samsung phone

Lol that's the issue. Got the phone from my parents. Never would've bought this myself. I like AOSP based roms. Yeah i know its easy to debloat but i just count it as a con of toucwiz(weird as it may be). So here i'm scratching my head and looking all round the internet to find a possible way to turn this to my liking. 4pda also gave negative results, so replying to some recently created threads seemed like my last resort. Btw have u found a working GCAM port for this phone. Tried 6-7 ports but none of them even got installed.

Lol a lot of people get phones from their parents, just be glad you're not stuck with a phone with a ****ty processor like Mediatek.
And well, I'm not an experienced person, so I wouldn't even be able to port something like Lineage or the like, sorry

I think the problem is with TWRP cause i read in some other threads that u need some vendor partition enabled( or sthng like this) TWRP to flash Pie GSIs. Not sure if im right or wrong. But this is the first thing that comes to mind.

My daily driver GSI (no bugs so far ?)

Hey, this might seem like a noob question, but how did you install the GSI? I got TWRP, stock ROM and Magisk, but any GSI I attempt to install ends up in a boot loop.
Thanks in advance!

ARM64 GSIs will always result in bootloop. You need to use ARM GSIs. I made that mistake as well, thinking that because the CPU is ARM64 that so was the OS.
can you make a video about project treble please !?

Samsung A10e 32-bit to 64-bit upgrade

I purchased an A10e only to find the app I wanted to use the phone for is only compatible with 64bit android. As far as I can tell the phone has a 64 bit processor but 32 bit android. I am not really familiar with rooting and have recently "soft bricked" a phone that I was unable to figure out how to restore to normal.
Is there a simple guide to upgrading android on the phone?
No ?*?

After seeing Exynos 7870 get a 64bit vendor I'm thinking anything's possible
Try looking around the Exynos 7870 SoC to see if you can get some clues on how to get a 64bit vendor on this phone
XDA should be a good place to start

Ok lol
does anyone know how to modify the stock os file running 32 to 64 bit please help? because there is no android version that supports 64bit released by samsung, so it has to be customized, i just need how and where to customize the latest rom version. The help is to install android with 64bit support when there is no version released by the manufacturer which is a silly answer. I think 64bit support but running on 32bit makes the phone run faster and svae batery, and 64bit on that phone may slow down your phone and only using some 64bit apps can be smooth. As for 64bit applications that require powerful processing, even if you can install them, you will have problems with lag and overload

How to port vendor?

How can I port for the with the same processor? in vendor.img which files do i need to change? which lib? etc. thx

There isn't a specific guide for this. You will have to use your creative thinking to create solutions for problems. But you can follow these steps.
1. If you want to port your vendor to a new android version. See what was changed with phones with the same SoC.
2. Replace old files with new files from the other device vendor.
3. Be careful. You can mess up your phone.

I want to try this for gsi roms. Because current GSI roms send me to the recovery part. can't boot.
As you said number 2 I don't know which old files to replace
if it's easy for you maybe one day help with teamviewer
You'd build a GSI system image and change that. You don't need to use /vendor as it contains blobs for the device and doesn't need to be changed.

You won't need to port a vendor partition if you want to try GSIs.
Unless your phone is not treble. Have you checked if your phone is treble? You can do that by installing treble check from the Google Play store.
Which GSIs have you tried?
What device do you have?
What Android version do you have.
Devices that ship with Android 8 must be treble because of requirements by Google. (Unless your phone isn't google certified or VTS certified, I'm not sure)
You can see which files to add and delete (this won't be the same for your phone) by looking at the diff between treble and non treble proprietary-files.txt, proprietary-files-qc.txt, proprietary-files-qc-perf.txt.

Yes. But we don't have working twrp yet
There seems to be unofficial builds of TWRP already: https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/recovery-unofficial-twrp-for-galaxy-a21s.4197239/
If we could iron out a few bugs and kinks and find a maintainer, maybe we could make it official

It will not work if you're not on u5 binary , the problem with this phone is if you managed to bypass or just flash the unofficial binary which targets binaries lower than 7 , when you reboot to system it auto enters download with something like bad header/bad magic.
