Honor 8 behaving like it's locked? - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I've a problem with my new Honor 8. I have a Vodafone contract SIM in slot 1 and when I went abroad to St Lucia I bought a local SIM (flow) for slot 2 and switched over to activate that in the settings. A Simple process i have not done before on this phone but have on my previous Motorola Moto G4. The problem is the only network the phone could see was the other carrier on the island (Digicel) who Vodafone use if I used world traveler plus at £6 a day. The SIM worked fine in my friends Samsung J4 so the SIM was OK. I tried the Flow SIM in SIM1 and it still didn't work.? again it detected the Digicel network but not flow? I tried auto search and manual search?. Actuated roaming and mobile data. Re-started the phone countless times. It's like the phone is behaving as if it's locked for Vodafone only (which is what the guys in the flow shop said?) but I bought the phone from Huawei direct through Amazon as unlocked?
It should be simple and straightforward?. I've checked and re-checked the settings many times
Any ideas?

Hyundai MultiCav Q5L+ Smartphone - Doesn't work in India

Hello,
I bought this phone in Malaysia @ Lowyat PLaza.. Paid RM1099.. The Hyundai Multicav Q5L+ has good features & worked Ok in MY using the MY SIMs but when I moved to India (Chennai) it stopped working. When I put my India SIM (Vodafone) and the MY SIM - Tunetalk (it's a dual SIM phone) neither of the network signals seems to pick up. Note, the phone does display that its a Vodafone SIM, Tunetalk SIM etc. but no signal and there is a "cross" displayed next to the signal bar. I tried selecting the network manually but that didn't help. When I contacted the MY vendor (who sold me the phone) he said something about the IMEI range registered on the phone being different than the one in India and hence the phone needs to be patched. Apparently it can be done by some of the service center shops locally. When I went to a few of them, they took a look and couldn't figure out how to fix it for this brand of phone. Note, both the SIMs (incld the MY one which is on roaming) work perfectly well with my old phone which I had purchased in India. So nothing wrong with the SIM cards or the networks in general but something to do with this phone. Any help will be appreciated.

LG G FLEX 2 LS996 U+LTE on Reliance CDMA india

Hi XDA community,
Few months back i had purchased LG G Flex 2 for my dad who is a reliance CDMA subscriber and was looking for a decent phone which is hard to fimd in india.
i had bought a phone from a guy who specializes in imported cdma phones.
Everything was working fine till end of April, 2016. We had received a message from rcom saying they upgrading all their cdma customers to 4G. So we need to get a new sim from reliance store.
So i was worried if my dad's phone would work on gsm too or not?
So i tried to put the GSM sim in the phone and check if it works as the phone supports both gsm and cdma.
so this is what i did,
1. in mobile network selected gsm/lte and removed the sim card which in turn automatically rebooted the phone.
2. while the phone rebooting i swapped my cdma sim with vodafone gsm sim.
3. the phone received the signal and i was able to make a call. i was delighted.
4. now i selected the cdma/evdo option in mobile network and followed the above process and re swapped with reliance CDMA sim. But to my surprise the phone shows "Service Disabled" , whereas same CDMA sim worked fine with my CDMA only hanset.
Also, i was not able to check the network option as the phone disabled the Mobile Network option.
5. Now i tried with another reliance CDMA SIM and swapped with the actual reliance CDMA SIM. The phone showed the signal and I could make a call.
6. Again i reswapped the new Reliance CDMA sim with my vodafone gsm sim. To my surprise the phone was showing "Service Disabled", whereas it worked fine on gsm only phone. So i also tried with the reliance CDMA sim that had worked and the phone said "Service Disabled". In the whole process of swapping reswapping and juggling between so many sims, I forgot what option was last checked in mobile network.
7. this strange behaviour seems as if the phone is accepting the New SIM and rejecting it once swapped reswapped with something else.
NOTE :
1. Phone when purchased was already rooted having the following app already installed 1) root browser, 2) supersu 3) shortcut master(lite).
2. Phone is on android Lollipop and software info says LS996ZV7
3. The phone backcover says LG U+LTE x8, and i m not sure if its a sprint variant.
I am trying to search web since last 3 days on the issue but nothing is helping.
Its my dads business phone and he yelling at me for screwing it. He is using an alternate phone for time being but I wanna resolve the problem at earliest.

Lenevo Vibe Z2 Pro issue with sim card

Hi i recently bought a Lenevo Vibe Z2 pro 6 inch smartphone, i appreciate its a 2014 phone but was purchased as brand new from a uk ebay power seller
When i turn the phone on . it does two things alternately on one boot .. the sim 2 had an exclamation mark next to it and sim 1 has an x .. mobile settings such as apn are not active and accessible and the sim settings also cannot be altered, one the 2nd boot ... both sims have an x next to them and the sim settings are active, and also the apn settings which incidently are pre populated to the correct provider vodafone uk, they are even the correct pay as you got internet settings
In Sim Settings how the Sim is Categorised as UNKNOWN .. the ebay advert states the phone is unlocked to all networks in the uk . including vodafone .. .. however is it ??
I have an honor 6 plus which is practically the same as this phone and the sim is fine in that one .. which is unlocked and also chinese ... do you think its a problem with the rom installed by the seller .. the wifi was a problem initially but after three minutes it eventually came on and then the phone rebooted about 7 times before it worked fine . the phone has also since had instances of spontaneously rebooting
I am currently in the process of negotiating to return the item .. unless anyone has any ideas ??? the lenevo forum has clearly moved on from this phone as no reply was forthcoming there

SM-G925V on MetroPCS (No Service)

Recently purchased a G925v with a broken charge port. After repair I noticed that it had a SimpleMobile SIM inserted which in fact still worked for calls+text, cool still works. So I try inserting my Metropcs SIM which I have been using with my G900v for over a year and am receiving (NO SERVICE). So i went to the Metro store and the clerk proceeds to check the IMEI which returns clean as in fact the verizon service was properly disconnected. From here he says ok we set you up and starts typing, 2-3 minutes pass and I hear "Oh!" It seems this IMEI is connected to another metropcs account.
At this point I'm confused, how did the phones IMEI have anything to do with the SIM card showing no service ?
And since I know the phone is factory unlocked and also working with a SimpleMobile SIM why is my Metropcs SIM not working ?

Sim-Free Huawei Mate 10 Pro (UK)

I've purchased sim-free Mate 10 Pro via CPW in the UK.
I've inserted a 3 sim card and phone reported detected local sim and installed some of the 3 apps and enabled wifi calling.
When I do the following - *#*#2846579#*#* then option 3, then option 4.
It shows as being H3G-GB, so has my phone automatically rebranded itself (and now sim-locked to a network) and if i change provider at later date will a replacement sim work and the branding change
I'm on three, and also noticed that as soon as I put in my three sim it downloaded the three splash screen and a couple of garbage apps that you can't uninstall.
It also does similar (not sure about splash screens) with O2 and Vodafone sims (but not EE)...
I did contact CPW about this and they stated that all their phones are sim free... it just brands itself when a sim is inserted... so I believe (but haven't tried it) that it is not sim locked to three...just branded...
Unfortunately, I do believe that some people have done a factory reset, and the three splash screen remains... so that is a bit of a bummer that you can't get rid of it !!!
If you've got a spare sim, feel free to pop it in and share the results !!!
I will contact huawei later as the phone should not get rebranded in my view - i also don't have another sim to test it with
On EE is detects the EE Sim and restarts. Installs the EE app but nothing more. It is awful that it rebrands to Three.
I've logged this with Huawei, i've got an email to send some screenshots and confirmation of purchase to them. the phone should not rebrand itself to the first sim - this i think is a huawei issue as the cpw cannot sell any three product

I have a sim only account with three, so will be inserting a 3 sim into it
Sent from my Huawei Mate 10 Pro (BLA-L09) using Tapatalk
just an update, someone states they have just purchased the phone from CPW and inserted a 3 sim and it has not been rebranded. I have had a live chat with CPW regarding the phone and this is what they say
most of our handset locks to the first sim card that you first used with the handset and only that specific network provider can be able to assist on unlocking the handset as the handset is locked directly with them.
I do apologize, as we get the handset from the manufacture directly sim free phone however they do lock to first network used with the handset please contact three Customer Services and they will be able to assist you.

Just tried my unlocked phone bought from cpw in Nov. Was using a three sim since Nov....Did a factory reset, and then put in wife's O2 sim and it worked FINE..... Still got three splash screens, but phone appears to be still unlocked... good job or cpw were in for a big fight !!!
well the stance from CPW is that unless it is faulty they won't replace it and to determine if faulty they want to send it of for repair.
It will not lock your phone to the first sim card.
It just puts 3 splash screen on if you insert a 3 sim.
The phone is still unlocked to any network

Can confirm the above, and that inserting a sim DOES NOT lock it to the first sim card you put in... but will install the three splash screen (if it's a three sim)..
ok, just seen this on three's website - http://www.three.co.uk/discover/Three_inTouch/android-wifi-calling
this means the phones are being updated to say they were purchased through them and not a 3rd party, which then allows the wifi calling features to work.
Hi all,
I have finally received an update from Huawei
The Mate 10 Pro version sold in Carphone Warehouse is the open market version and it is exactly the same one sold by H3G.
The software version is also the same, however, this will be customized to the relevant operator depending on the SIM card that is inserted in the device for the very first time.
This customization is irreversible as per the operator's requirement, however, the device will maintain its SIM Free status.
One of the reasons behind it is to ensure the 4G/Wi-fi calling feature will be enabled on these devices. As you may know this option is not available on the unbranded/open market devices, as it requires network customization.

Sorry to bump an old thread
Thinking about getting a mate 10 Pro, sim free version from Amazon UK.
I’m on 3 sim only, are you saying if I put my sim into this handset it will rebrand it 3 and enable WiFi calling ? Does VoLTE work too?
After this the 3 branding will remain no matter what sim I use later?
Thanks.

That's my understanding from what I've read in the UK thread. I'm on Vodafone myself and recently purchased a Mate 10 Pro from Currys and I have WiFi calling working and the Vodafone Apps installed themselves, so the response from Huawei makes sense and must be the way they are doing things now.

The 3 branding will remain. There is no way of getting rid of it. Even after factory wipe the 3 splash screen remains.
However the phone still remains unlocked.
There is a setting in developer options that I believe stops this from happening if you select it before you put the SIM in.
Automatic system updates needs to be un selected
But if you un select it 3 functions like WiFi calling ect will not work as it stops the 3 updates ?
Yeah, the Amazon UK supplied Mate 10 Pros will work with wifi calling and VoLTE (worked great on EE when had my Mate 10 Pro).
I'm thinking of moving to O2 soon, and expect they'll work OK there too...
Sucks for anyone on 3, I had my EE SIM card in my Mate 10 Pro and it installed the My EE app which I use anyway, then I bought a O2 SIM card, factory reset and it downloaded a O2 app, but no splash screens or permanent rebranding, only tested it out because of this thread, I'm back on my EE SIM card now.

Official line is O2 doesn't support VoLTE or VoWiFi on Huawei phones, did you test that TheInfiniteAndroid? Not supported doesn't always mean not working...
I'm thinking of changing over to O2 because there's 4G at home on O2 but basically no signal at all on EE - have to rely on VoWiFi here, which isn't ideal.
