Replace the screen or just get a new device? - Galaxy S6 Edge Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

There is a thin crack in the glass that runs across the screen, also it went bad long time ago. Heavy burn in and lot of pink color. Rest of the phone works fine, but I assume replacing this screen is pretty much gonna be a price of a used phone and from what I've seen doing it myself would be a no go since this is somehow glued together...

[Q] After an LCD replacement

A while back ago I received a G1 (Which was my favorite Android @ the time) with a broken digitizer. I was going to replace the digitizer shortly after having it unlocked. But I ran across a friend who bought an Aria off of Craigslist, who needed a T-mobile (Or unlocked) phone. So I traded my buddy my G1 for an Aria with a broken LCD. I ordered the LCD (Screwdrivers & such) off of ebay, and replaced the LCD shortly after. I didn't really have any problems doing so. But I've started to notice that it seems as if the screen / digitizer doesn't really fit down all the way. If you catch my drift. Like, Sometimes I can push the corner of the screen (Where the LED is) and it sets back down, but arises again. Would this be something that I did wrong, or maybe I need a new adhesive strip (so to say) to put back around the digitizer? Any suggestions would be highly appreciated.
_Edit_ The performance of the digitizer nor the LCD are affected. Its more so my personal preference to have it back in the right spot I guess you could say, for resale to upgrade. (Which is pretty consistent)
Same Issue
HI! I have the same issue with my Aria!
I noticed when I was replacing mine that the adhesive part you mentioned seemed "not so sticky anymore." When I take the back off and look at the corner that stick up slightly, there is no sticky at all there. I assume that's the problem. I just leave mine as is. But if there was a simple fix, I would love to know!
Hope
Actually, almost all arias do that (to some extent) after a couple of weeks. I noticed it shortly after I purchased mine. It's probably a design flaw, or just a bad design in my opinion.
The sticky tape must just break down overtime.
Just a theory...

Well. Bummer. It would make sense that it is a possible design flaw. Everything has something wrong with it. Oh well. Guess I'll just roll with it until I trade this off for something else. Thanks for the replies. Much appreciated.
I have carried my aria in my pocket, no case, for almost a year. No sign of separation from the base at any corner. I don't think separation is a normal condition from regular use. Maybe need new "stick down" stuff.

+1. Ive also never had any issues with the build quality of my Aria. Ive seen enough issues posted in the forums to know that there had to be certain batches of Arias that were just poorly made. This little thing has been through quite a bit (working on construction sites) and it still looks like the day I bought it with the exception of a scratch in the corner of the back cover (I do use a screen protector). Nothings loose, nothings worn out, nothings ever broke.

Parts Available??

I hate to say it but i have dropped my sgs3 3 times over the past week
but im happy to say the screen has absolutly NO damage or scratches, so i would have to say 3 out of 3 drops with only edge body damage...it a pretty good drop test..lol
any way, i want to replace the silver lip around the sgs 3 and am pretty sure this is part of the lower housing, so anyone know where/if i can get my hands on the spare parts for the sgs3??
and ideas would help, i know its still a brand new unit.
You on contract?
with at&t yes i am. but i did not buy this phone on contract. so i dont see anyone replacing it
Well it looks like the Screen is attached to the frame on this phone......i have replaced other screens on other phones and didnt have a need to heat up the screen to remove it from the frame.
so it looks like if i want to replace to the silver bumper/housing i have to replace the whole screen.....that sucks and it runs around 249.00
im hoping to find a teardown that shows the actual screen removel, other wise i will be dropping the 249 for a new screen/housing even though my screen is perfect the drops have been all body damage.

Lumia 800 screen scratches

Hey guys! I've got a bit of a problem, all of the sudden really small dents are starting to appear on the screen of the device, they are almost unnoticeable but they are certainly there.
I haven't done anything such as dropping it to the floor, mixing it with keys or coins in the past days. Just being in the pocket! On Friday I had two scratches, today i have four!! They are not deep and they are not dirt.
It seemed such a strong device! about four months ago I accidentally dropped it onto the sidewalk and then to the asphalt of the street and it was intact!
Anyone has had this problem before? Do you think Nokia would take care of it for free, since It hasn't been an accident?
Oh well, I knew this would happen at some point. The scratch free curved screen was to good to be true lol.
The screen is very strong, I stopped using a screen protector more than 3 months ago and even a few big drops haven't damaged it. However even the Gorilla Glass can suffer some wear and tear: micro scratches will start to appear from time to time, but at least in my case they're very faint, and you won't be able to see them unless you look very closely and at a certain angle against some strong light. To me this is really irrilevant, and honestly it doesn't make me go back to a screen protector: the screen will still be totally pristine compared to the look and feel of whatever screen protector you may have. I'll check back in a few months or so to see how it fares, but so far so good. I'd still be using one if those amazing real glass ones were available for this phone, but going for anything less than that would feel like a complete waste and a major downgrade to me right now. Obviously if you have to deal with sand on a daily that's a different story, but not my case at all.
How about those scratches you have, are they deep? Can you feel them with a fingernail? Otherwise (if you simply got those ones I described above) I guess it's pretty common wear and tear, even for a Gorilla Glass, and you probably shouldn't worry too much about it. We're men after all, we're not supposed to be so OCD with our things after all IMHO

[WARNING]Broken screens

Okay so I am sharing my experience for everyone. I had recently broken my screen, and I needed to replace the screen. I bought a screen digitizer off of eBay, and....Destroyed the phone sub frame. The reason I am posting is because I am warning all of you, you need to buy a full display assembly online. This includes the whole new display( glass and LCD) wires and bits, and a full subframe. Unless you are superior to an Asian 12 year old working in the factory that made your phone (hint hint, wink wink, you're not) than you need to buy a full assembly, or end up like me an destroy your phone.

+1.
Unfortunately, I saw this post after doing damage to my phone. The plastic housing that the digitizer /lcd sits in is verrrryyy easy to damage around the edges when you try to separate the screen. Heating it with the heat gun to get the separation actually makes it even more fragile and prone to damage. Thankfully I was able to return digitizer/lcd and get full setup from here :

Hopefully things will go a little better this time.
Wow, that includes the plastic frame? I replaced my screen a couple of weeks ago (glass and LCD), and the edges of the frame did get slightly chewed up. It's not too bad, but I wish I had known abut this item.
On a positive note, I suppose I can get a job in China when the economy completely collapses.

Ya my screen got waterlogged after I got trashed and left it out in the rain. Let everything dry out and thankfully all the boards and connectors work. I ended up going the cheap route and just buying a screen and not the frame. I almost successfully got the thing apart. I do have a small chip in the frame on the left side but my case covers that. I only paid around $50 but I did give myself around $50 in headaches. Definitely spend the extra $50 and just get the whole package.
If you do decide to try and separate the screen from the frame, use a lot of heat. Not necessarily high heat, but for a good duration. Get the adhesive nice and warm. Then pry it loose through one of the holes in the housing/frame (go at it from the back) and slowly work it away from the frame. Once you get it off, heat the adhesive back up and then add some 5 minute quick epoxy to the black adhesive pads in the frame. Then use some clamps and let the epoxy cure. There is a great video I followed below. It took me a while and I will probably ride with this for a minute until it bothers the hell out of me. My gf said she can't even notice.

case screen cover plastic sheet work?
I'm just wondering how many naked phones get broke compared to well protected?

I have a Incipio NGP case on mine all the time and I always have a screen protector installed (usually the cheap ones from Amazon). I have never had a problem with the screen until I left my phone out in the rain. The Gorilla Glass II is decently strong but only to a certain extent. I mainly use the screen protector from scratches if I accidentally put it in the same pocket as my keys.
I was afraid of breaking mine one day, fortunately for me my volume button went out first and I have Best Buys insurance and the replace the phone with no deductible.
Seems like screen issues are pretty common on this model. I'm on my 4th Evo now because the screen kept failing on me. Based on what I read it sounds like I'd never want to have to replace this myself.

Cracked SK17 Screen Stopped Responding

Hey!
A few months ago I dropped my SK17 and the screen cracked. Despite being cracked and with pieces falling apart, the screen worked perfectly. Yesterday I dropped my phone again and it stopped responding to touch. The screen looks exactly as before falling but it stopped responding to touch. The soft keys still work. Will replacing the screen solve the problem? I already flashed my phone to an original firmware but it solved nothing. I don't mind replacing the screen and spending a few bucks to get my phone working but I'd like to be sure if the problem's in the lcd.
Well, yeah, your touch digitizer might have hit it's stress breakpoint. Replacing the screen assembly will do the trick.
In case you didn't know, the display and touch glass are glued on the xmp, which makes replacements more expensive than expected. But whatever the cost is, it's better to spend ~35 bucks and restore your phone's full functionality than to keep using it like a brackberry haha.
Be extremely careful if you plan on replacing it yourself. Look around for the best/most trusted repair shop/center if you plan on sending it to someone else for repair. You really don't want to deal with wonky touch response or bad color reproduction because of a cheap replacement part, I know, I've been there.
Thanks, I was thinking in replacing the screen myself. I've already disassembled the phone up to the screen but I didn't took it off. Is it hard to take it off and put the new screen on? Do I have to glue it to the front cover?
Ok, if you have dissasembled the phone and assembled it back successfully, you already know the basic structure, so that's good.
The screen assembly is glued to the plastic + metal frame, and it's pretty hard to pry it apart. Make sure to use non-metallic prying tools and a heat gun (a hair drier will do fine). Using a heat gun gives you a chance to reuse the original double-sided tape, which is strong enough to keep the screen from lifting. Replacing this tape is not a good idea because aftermarket tape is not nearly as strong as the one that came with the phone (unless you manage to get 3M VHB tape).
Once you stuck the screen assembly to the frame, be extra careful when putting everything back in place. The frame has tiny clips which need to be PERFECTLY aligned, otherwise... you'll know it when you get there haha. You can leave the frame in place without the screws, it'll be easier to open it again in case something goes wrong (you wont need to open the phone from the back to access the display)
