Hi and happy new year !
I'm searching to change Rom of Altek Leo. This phone has 14mpx and the original Rom has problem of performance (only 800Mhz processor), battery autonomy (8 hours with regular uses).
No Rom exists but I want to know if a custom rom could work on my phone with the same photo quality (very great !!!).
Thanks for replies and sorry for my FrenchEnglish lol

Ok thanks for no responding.

hey, I see you want to improve the performance of your phone. they may not have a rom but there are many ways to do so. on the forum.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1050812
. Also I saw a link that says they may actually come out with a new phone all together, with Android 2.2 . Do you know if this is true. I emailed Altek, but they are taking forever to respond. There is a digidata link at the bottom of this link, under the youtube vid.

Thanks but I make all tutorial in Altek Leo Section. Moreover, Altek announced that update in 2.2 or 2.3 is impossible due the processor that's why I'm searching a Custom Rom.
maybe altek leo will run android 2.3?

Ease of Use
This is, first and foremost, an Android device. At startup, it opens up to the regular menu or dashboard or whatever it’s called—_not_ the camera app. With the default camera app open, it’s works like a basic, straightforward point-and-shoot. The touchscreen is actually pretty responsive for something that feels so cheaply built, so the interface doesn’t suffer. And since it’s linked to the Android app store, users can download any photo app of their choosing, which opens up tons of possibilities. Don’t like the interface? Download a new one.
The pre-production model we saw was running Android 2.3. We’d guess that it’ll ship in April with something more like version 3.1. The latest version—4.0—would be a stretch for an in-between product like this, since most proper phones and tablets don’t even run it yet.
Altek Leo won't be upgated to android 2.3
I emailed Altek and asked about the Polaroid samrtphone which looks the same as the Alte A14 Leo. They replied that the phone has similar outline/cosmetics but the electical parts are different - the phone will stay with 2.1
upgrade to 2.2
I also checked out the Polaroid . The only real difference that I have seen appears to be the 16mp camera, i doubt it's a real 16mp just as the altek leo isn't a real 14mp. anyway the biggest change i think is the 512mb rom and 512 ram. that would be handy. Anyhow, after a whole bunch of research on every english forum i could find.. i got fed up. and started looking at chinese forums.. thank u google translate. apparently some dude in china upgraded to 2.2 using an htc 2.2 rom. one even claimed he got 2.3 . but thats not verified. check the link. and tell me what you think u guys. .. u might want to use google translate.

How Do I Upgrade to 2.2?
I didn't understand ho to update to 2.2.
Did they modified the HTC rom? where can I download it? How do I Install it?
no update available for the Leo
Just as the SE Satio was dropped six months after it was released, it felt like another deja vu experience with the Altek Leo. Don't get me wrong, I like the phone and it's great as a camera with its optical zoom. As for system updates, there hasn't been one in a long time, and I've noticed at the Altek website, that they haven't been developing a new product to supersede the Leo. I guess because of the brand name, not many consumers wanted to take the plunge in purchasing this relatively unknown cell phone.
When I had initially purchased this phone from an eBay seller, I had asked him about an Android update and he replied that it was not possible. So, when I read about upgrades, I was quite skeptical about it. Still, I like this phone and will keep it until it has a complete breakdown...or is dropped.
Screen protectors are few and far to find for this phone.
Polaroid should update it's video recording quality to 1080p, then people will be interested in this phone.
Hi people
I have just bought a new phone, and selected S3. I've had Desire with MIUI and also the MI-One phone with MIUI. It is therefore no surprise that I am missing the versatile MIUI system on my S3. However S3 also has some good features, and I just can't decide wether I shall root the phone to get MIUI or leave it with stock rom. I would highly appreciate if someone with experience of S3 and MIUI would be so kind to share it with me.
- Why did you change to MIUI?
- What are the key benefits of changing? (better battery etc)
- How does S3 work with MIUI? (errors etc)
Perhaps there are some who changed to MIUI, but then have changed back to stock because something didn't work or some features of stock was missed on MIUI. Please also share this.
PS: If it is already started a thread with this question I am sorry. I haven't found one.
Looking forward to read your feedback!
*bump*
MIUI is a bag of balls. iphone wannabe. all the apps all over your screen. no dedicated section to store your apps. stick to stock
Bumping is banned .
Asking whats the benefits of this rom or that rom is also banned .

Hi
I'm sorry if I did something that is banned, and I don't think you understood my question. I have been using MIUI for almost two years, and I am quite aware of how it works. I tested many different ROM when I had Desire, as I thought the Sense was not good at the time. MIUI was the one I really felt for, because of its many adjustable things.
Now I have a brand new S3 and I just can't get used to the ROM that is on this. I have installed the MIUI launcher, and are happy with that. What I would like to hear is from people that have been using MIUI on S3, and get their feedback. And this means also positive and negative experiences. For some people MIUI will work great, and for some others it won't. I am aware of that, but it is so I can make up my mind if I wan't to root my S3 and install MIUI or just don't bother.
Some things that can be positive is better battery, better use of ram etc. Just can't see how this should be banned to ask for?
sorry if this is in the wrong place, but i have recently bought the A5 (a5009) and have searched high and low on xda, but cannot find any support for the phone on this forum. As it is related to the alpha line, i was wondering if this sub-forum will be the place for news or ROMs for the A3/A5/A7? or have i missed something?
i feel its a great phone, but touchwiz is so ugly compared to stock android (in my opinion), and this could sway me away from the phone if there is no support.
i have noticed that it can be rooted already, but i dont see much point unless there are custom roms available or am i missing the point?
many thanks

If you can, return your A5 and get the alpha! . It is the value for money phone of the new series... It has 3x faster cpu and many times faster GPU and better camera than A5. :good::good::good:
To be honest, i don't think that anybody with some hardware knowledge will buy A5 or A7 at least until the price drops to adequate levels.
I don't want to turn this into a comparison thread as I just wanted to know where on xda I can find out about the new A series, but the alpha here in the UK is more expensive.
With my job, having an expensive phone is not a good idea as it can get damaged easily, that's why I went with a mid - range phone this time. I still have time to think though, so I may change the phone yet.
Has the alpha got many roms available for it?

There is ongoing CM11 port and there are 2 custom roms based on stock ROM.
And i think, that there must be separate subforum for A series...
If you root your phone you can remove samsung crap and install launchers... and you'll get whatever software experience you want, you just need to spend some time with it.
P.S. look here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1660354&page=1712 it seems thet there are several requests for A5 forums... Just wait (and maybe add request) and there will be forums for your beautiful device to!
thanks for the help!

Exactly! I've searched everywhere and I couldn't find good resources for the A7 or for any of the A series. Like you did, I did find a how-to-root guide but I don't see much point either without custom roms. I was actually hoping for an AOSP rom too and this is usually where I find everything I need but there's no forum yet :/

In the post above mine there is a link for a thread that users can request devices to have thier own forum. I noticed quite a few people are now asking for the A series, so cast a vote and fingers crossed we get one
Has a thread opened up yet ? i did post a request for a thread , have found sources for KK kernel at samsung and have started building the cm12 basic's device tree. would like somewhere to document it.
darkspr1te
I haven't noticed one opening up so far. There is a lot of call for one in the thread I mentioned. I'm assuming the forum would be announced if one opens up?
No idea.
congrats on the cm progress. I would love to test out what you have and having a forum would make it easier

I bought it for that reason, i have the hardware knowledge and it's a qualcomm cpu, i've requested a forum for A3/A5/A7 devices, i've got kernel sources and msm8916 device tree for cm11/12,
now i just need the forum.

@darkspr1te cool, do you have the sources uploaded? I would like to help out, I have the A500F.
Keep up the good work Darkspr1te. I am a bit of a noob on this and don't understand everything you say, but I'm looking forward to a mod for the A3.
Hopefully a forum will be opened soon.

Standard kernel sources can be found at samsung open source center. I have A500H/DS , sadly the sources i pulled wont even compile yet. Been busy on projects past week so i will only get into the sources again this wkend.
Still no feedback on a forum so i might hijack a thread here for now so I can at least start sharing.

love to see a galaxy A Custom Rom community.

you might want to start a thread on miscellaneous android dev.
Hello all, I have been following everything about the A3 recently since a cousin of mine just bought it; it´s so sad that there isnt a forum about this device. I would be happy to help on any new brews
It would be nice if they create a Galaxy A series forum. I have an A3, its a great small phone. I use it as my side phone(got a Note 4).
Recovery
Hey guys, I just found a Recovery, but it's Chinese. Working fine on A500M. Just flash with Odin. Now we can try to port Roms from other 410 SoC based devices!
ps: turn the phone on normally, and when the screen turn on, press volume down + power + home (yup, the same buttons of the download mode)
Srry by the bad english, I'm Brazilian
I was looking to get the A5 tomorrow...but the lack of a forum and ROMs is really making me hesitate.
A bit of history
I don't know if you guys have noticed, but there are a lot of ROMs not being updated anymore because the devs are migrating to newer phones or whatever. In this thread I want to show you guys that installing new custom ROMs and looking for updates don't worth your time.
This phone has been released on October 1st, 2014 and now it's 2019 which means that we're using a five years old phone (which is not bad). Samsung gave up on it in 2015 when they launched (the last) lollipop update. But then a lot of developers started working to make our beloved GP an useful phone with the latest cool stuff that newer android versions give to us. It was wonderful when every Tuesday there was a building going on in a Jenkin's server and afterwards we could download the ROM just to have the latest version of Cyanogenmod (good old days that never come back). For me, the last stable custom ROMs were the Nougat and Marshmallow versions. Afterwards some of the devs have changed their phones and stopped creating new stuff for GP (I'm not blaming anyone for that) because the phone was getting too problematic to work with.
Even so, some of the devs were still persisting on making new builds and fixing the bugs but those new ROMs weren't ever going to get out of the beta stage. Even if you see new custom ROMs builds today they are not gonna be finished as their kernel need to be worked on fixing bugs and improvements. That's why they all have the same bugs because they use the same base which has these bugs.
The real last update
The last modification in the kernel has been made on Oct 17th, 2018.
Last commit
This means that all of these new custom ROMs in 2019 are not getting their bugs fixed. Please do not ask the devs for updates and improvements because they've already forsaken this phone long time ago.
We have to be grateful that they have spent a lot of their time and money (I don't know which is most valuable) programming, looking for bugs and losing sleep nights just to bring us (users) pieces of software FOR FREE.
For all developers my biggest Thank you !
My grand prime's retirement
At this time I am using the oldest stock ROM ever, the KitKat. It's very stable specially when you root it and remove all the bloatware stuff.
Its interface is not that bad, I personally think it's cuter that lollipop's. Of course you will miss google's smart lock and a lot of apps that are not supported anymore, such as Swiftkey, Gboard and newer stunning browsers.
I think that we users should let our grand prime to rest in peace and to follow our own lives. It has been a great adventure to brick this phone a lot of times and being one or two days without social media because of a software brick.
What do you think of all of this?
Have a great day.
It was a great run with the gp
I'm no longer using this device 4 months ago
I'm now using a Lenovo Z5 Pro GT
It's a 6 year old phone, I think it's perfectly reasonable for someone to want to stop developing for it.
I have 4 cellphone, but Grand prime is still my fave
Hey @cizordj!
I'm glad you made this thread. I know that most people have moved on to their new devices but some people like me and many others are still stuck with their GP and it is hard to use this. I know I will waste your time but let's do a guide on how to use this phone in 2019 and so on mainly because of the reason they don't have money to get a newer device. My Telegram ID is @ITexpert120 and if you find this post interesting, please contact me.
Let's give this community the last gift before we leave. (Just a side note I'm still using GP).
Bye.

It's an interesting idea, sorry for the late response.
Alright, I think someone would still be able to use grand prime today if he installs ViperOS which is in my opinion the stablest ROM ever. It's even faster than stock's and lighter, another thing is the camera that is a lot better. On this tutorial about using grand prime in 2019 I think we should approach these methods:
- Installing the newest possible android version.
- Installing the Google Apps.
- Rooting the phone.
- Giving tips about light apps that can be used on this phone.
I remember not being able to use Instagram due to a lack of RAM, what I did was to uninstall Swiftkey[board] and use AOSP keyboard. Another detail that the user must care about is background processes, in developer options I had to deactive all of them to get the phone to respond fast, without background processes I didn't get notifications, but my phone used to work rapidly.
If the user is hardcore, he could try using this phone without Google Apps, they are heavy nowadays specially the play services, if he could stand without that he would save 200Mb of RAM approximately.
Well I think this is it.

Well, yeah
You are right, I am too using the Grand Prime without GApps and it works just fine.
Also my builds are getting stable so now I am able to use it without any problems
And most of all PUBG LITE works

First of all your post's title is very misleading, edit it.
Look brother, it's inappropriate to make posts like this. Developers do all the hard work for free, but they have a life too. It takes time, skill & a lot of trouble shooting to develop a ROM. So just give them some time, okay?
If we keep nagging them, the devs might feel annoyed & lose their interest in developing for our device completely. Tell me, is that what you want? The problem is we only want to take everything for free, giving nothing in return - not even a little bit of patience!! That's not how the world works.
Android 10 isn't out for this device yet, but we already have 4 Android Q based custom ROMs for A3. You can try those in the meanwhile.
No hard feelings bro, just wanted to share my thoughts with you. Thank you.

I see. Stock android is not everyone's cup of tea. You see, this phone runs on stock android, so every custom rom for this device is going to be based on stock/AOSP. You probably won't get that cartoonish MIUI for this device. GSIs? May be. But those things are always riddled with bugs. Talking of Oxygen OS, there isn't a whole lot of deference between Android One & OOS. Besides, you'll lose the ability to use your cameras to their full potential - a common problem with custom roms in general.
You really should have gone with CC9e instead of A3.
I, for one, enjoy clean, fluid & bloat-free Android. Every feature you get on MIUI can be duplicated on stock rom with the help of some useful apps & a bit of creativity
Basically, stock android is like soft clay. You can customize it to any shape you like (granted, it does require some effort); you can't say the same for 3rd party skins like MIUI.
I thought that after more than 2 years since Mi A1, people finally learned that if they want MIUI, they need to buy a phone with MIUI and not Android One. What puzzles me even more, Xiaomi offers EXACTLY the same device with/without MIUI, yet people jump on the Android One train and complain.. Sorry for being off-topic, but I'm amazed by this behavior since the beginning of Xiamoi's Android One line
