Root doesn't cause the fingerprint sensor to not work.
Unless you have T-Mobile H932 and tried to flash custom ROMs without updating back to OREO first. For H932 you have to TEMPORARILY downgrade to Nougat to root. You then need to update back to current firmware.
But if you're on H932 20p, that's OREO. Just make sure you flash the FULL firmware, not the debloated one, at least at first. It may be missing stuff you need...
What variant do you have? Just "20p" doesn't tell me anything. This is the forum for ALL V30/V30+/V30S.
I would also try to disable/uninstall apps that overwrite it write on top.

Try flashing 20p FULL. See if fingerprint sensor works again.

You can only flash KDZ/ROMs for your model number (H870).
Only the region is allowed to be different, but that's not the case, so, no.
Reporting in with an H873 from Rogers - downloaded and flashed with Uppercut + LGUP.
To my extremely pleasant surprise, it updated without issue (no factory restore necessary) - Rogers Wifi Calling also prompted me to activate, but haven't yet tested.
Thanks for this!
Question: Is this KDZ carrier-specific? Will I lose any features by flashing this? And, finally, will my device be factory reset if I flash this through LGUP?
My carrier is Koodo.

You shouldn't flash firmware that isn't for your specific hardware model. That's the rule of thumb.
It's probably best if you wait for the update to be released for your model. Don't risk it!

Thanks for the reminder, though I'm not holding my breath on any release for my model. My carrier hasn't released a single update since August 2017 so I'm better off either letting 7.0 sink in as my OS for the rest of my phone's life or hope for a way to root it :silly:

My H930 was also laggy after the V30b OTA flashed with LG UP, even after the factory reset. Then I downgraded to 22j and flashed the V30b KDZ which became available in this time. Whole another world. Smooth as butter.

No, I didn't receive the OTA. I flashed the leaked V30b OTA I got here on XDA. Because the experience on Pie was awful (choppy, very bad battery life) even after a factory reset, I reflashed 22j KDZ with LG UP and decided to wait for a official Pie roll out. Few days later, I found out that the official Pie upgrade is available through LG bridge. That did it. My phone is at least as smooth as on Oreo and the battery life is quite amazing but it obviously depends from personal usage. The only thing that seems different is the RAM management. Now uses more RAM with the same settings and installed apps. Regards.
PS: Completely stock, no root, no unlocked bootloader, no anything rather than complete stock.
Thank you for your answer.
Yes I also noticed that Pie uses more RAM than Oreo and the RAM management was bad and random. Maybe 4Go don't cut it anymore? I don't know.
Glad to hear that it's working perfectly for you. Unfortunately I can't update through LG Bridge, I get the "Cannot check the software version" error

HOW TO DOWNGRADE BACK TO OREO

While it talks about how to downgrade for bootloader unlock, it's still just downgrading from Pie to Oreo. Same method, no matter the reason.
Downgrading to Oreo KDZ has nothing to do with root. It's just most people who downgrade are doing that so they can then unlock bootloader and root (on early Oreo).
But you can downgrade to most recent Oreo, whatever you wish.
Use the method in post #2, ignore the reason most people use it.

No issues on my device during the first week. Only stock Gallery app is slower and more laggy than before. It's like cache is not working there so every time I open some folder in Gallery it starts loading pictures from beginning which is causing lags.
Some other issues are there with Nova launcher and multitasksing, but this is due to this launcher. On stock everything is fine.

Glad to be of help. I was merely curious about the "wide range of stock pie firmware" comment.
I only post full image KDZ or TWRP-flashable zips based on full image KDZ, and I post those in the ROMs section. Full image KDZ is stock, official LG firmware. (I maintain Nougat, Oreo, Pie KDZ threads for several V30 variants, but they are all clearly labelled for which variant and which OS.)
Yes, someone has posted beta Pie partial image "update" files -- which by definition are not yet official release and possibly buggy.
Stick with KDZ and you'll be OK.
Hi All,
I upgraded to the latest PIE rom "US99830b_00_0902.kdz" over top of the 20H rom, dirty flash with LGUP.
I've noticed that VoLTE (advanced calling, hd voice) is missing. I've also noticed that I lose 4g data while a call is in progress.
I also noticed VoLTE options are missing in the "hidden menu".
A consequence of no VoLTE is no data while making calls, which is frustrating.
I've seen sparse references to a "USA" version of the rom that isn't out yet.
Does anyone else on the PIE rom have VoLTE options?

Verizon. All the aforementioned features were working on the 20h rom.
I have Verizon as well. If I recall their was a work around to get the US 20h rom to work with VoLTE but it was kind of a hack. I never got it working myself (VoLTE and VoWiFi do not work out of the box on any of the US ROMS for Verizon specificly). I would suggest switching to one of the Verizon branded ROMs. You can do so and still maintain root (for debloating and personalizing). I can attest that on the 30c Pie Verizon ROM VoLTE and VoWiFi do work (you have to sign up for MyVerizon for VoWiFi it seems). Also, very likely if you are switching from one of the US based ROMs to the Verizon one, you'll probably need to follow https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=80347089&postcount=6 that guide by ChazzMatt or you'll end up stuck at the V30 screen.
Was the work around baked into the 20h rom, or was it an extra procedure after flashing? I upgraded to the "open", "US" 20h rom and volte worked with no extra steps.

I have unrooted stock. Still curious why this latest US998 PIE rom lacks VoLTE functionality when the 20h rom had it.
I can confirm reverting to the Verizon carrier rom VS99630c does restore VoLTE functionality (advanced calling).
I don't consider this issue resolved though since I had to move my carrier unlocked phone onto a carrier rom, which included a master reset.
Does anyone know why VoLTE function is missing in US99830c rom?

USS98 is 30b right now.
Something about it being technically U.S. Cellular KDZ rather than Open Market firmware?
With Oreo there was no difference. Apparently with Pie there are differences.

Yeah this surprised me as well...
I downloaded the regional rom's for 30b and the md5's all matched.
Verizon is dropping CDMA at the end of 2019 and moving all calling functionality to VoLTE. My understanding is if that feature is missing, then anyone using this rom on Verizon's network will lose calling functions.
At this point, it seems US99820h is the latest version for unlocked V30's on Verizon that has this capability with stock roms.
I did confirm VS996_30c has functional VoLTE. However since I was stock I had to master reset.
Hopefully a new version of US998 comes soon with functioning VoLTE.

I did cross flash from us99830b to vs99630c and it did provide me with volte, however I don't prefer Verizon's branding on the phone, so I elected to revert to an unlocked rom in hopes that a new us998_30 rom will be released in the future with volte function. Perhaps a bit silly, but it's a preference at this point I think. I would be a bit more ambitious but I use Google pay and AirWatch daily, so I can't accept the risk that these apps might break with root and an unlocked bootloader.

I don't have an answer either, but this is what I've done too. The official VS996 ROMs have too much junk for me, I'd rather start with the US998 and forgo VoLTE.
I went from US99830B to US99630C to get VOLTE. But after reading this thread,
I did a clean install of US99820H but after initial setup, when I accessed Advanced Calling in the settings, HD calling is greyed out.
Hello friends, I do not know if I have really damaged my phone. It is the h931 model converted to us998. Because of my desire to have a foot, I installed a KDZ of the European model h930. Any solution to this problem, I would appreciate suggestions and help. Thank you so much ♥

You screwed up.
NEVER NEVER NEVER flash stock H930* firmware over any North American variants. It says so in all the Instructions.
You ignored all warnings. WHY? Every Pie H93O* KDZ and TWRP flashable zip says "ONLY for H930, H930G, H930D, H930DS. Do NOT ask if others can flash this!"
Flash back to US998 Nougat to repair your damage. PARTITION DL, all partitions in Dev Patched LGUP.
Then use one of the 4 workarounds in post #6 of the US998 PIE KDZ thread to update to US998 Pie.
Did you not read about those? They are mentioned top of post #2. Go to Post #6 of the US998 Pie KDZ. Workaround #3 and #4 work for everyone. Two people yesterday said #4 worked for them.

Hello friend, thank you very much, method #4 worked perfectly for me. The problem is that the touch still does not respond .... Too bad!
woww.. It would be taking him to a technician or something. I didn't want to lose my phone that way.

Try temporarily flashing back to US998 Nougat via Partition DL mode, all partitions. See if that fixes touch. Then update to US998 Pie again.
same problem

The problem remains the same, brother. I just flashed Nougat and nothing.

I'm almost out of answers. All I can suggest is Partition DL to H933 Nougat. Temporarily. See if that works, then back to US998 Nougat, then update back to US998 Pie.
Is it possible your digitizer just happened to fail same time you were doing all this?
same problem

Exactly, I think that by flashing that KDZ h930, some file or something that handles the hardware of the screen has broken.

Hello Friend. I've been thinking and well, could you tell me that a "Dump" file,? Could you solve the problem with that or is it more risky?

Never used Dump file, so don't know. That's a function of LGUP where you can theoretically restore original partitions if you have a "dump" prior to making any changes. You've already made changes.
