I have a Chromebook 3 and I have Facebook Messenger on it, as well as my other devices like my phone, and PC. My PC is on all day, and so is my phone, so that is where I use the Messenger the most. Later on I may open my Chromebook to play on it for awhile and all the Facebook messages I received and sent, come flowing in, and I can't figure out how to either unsync my Messenger from the Chromebook, or some other way to stop them downloading onto my Chromebook.
The only thing I thought of was delete all my conversations after I'm done yacking, but if I sent them, it seems they would still come through on my CB.
Can someone solve this one for me, and please don't tell me the best way is to delete Facebook Messenger. I need it handy, because it's the one thing my 76 year old deaf sister can enjoy talking to me on.
Thank you in advance for any help.
PS The Chromebook does have the Sync (on or off) turned off on everything, but it's not working for the Messenger. Please help me out if you can, thank you much, Denise

Hello,
I'm fed up with my Nokia N-8. Works bad, is slow, freezes, has some hidden files somewhere taking all the phone memory, and generally pisses me off.
So now I'm hesitating between the Galaxy S4 and the Lumia.
I'm someone who needs :
- reliable phone in most situations. It would be unnaceptable to have no phone due to proffessional duties.
- A Citrix app (good), thethering on an Android tablet (even better) or both (awesomeness).
- Reasonable amounts of games for train strikes.
- Reasonable pictures taken (I heard the Lumia is amazing on this side)
- NO BLOODY NOKIA OVI SUITE. NO. NO. NO.
- A SIMPLE software to synch the phone music/pics/videos, and save the phone contacts. I'll be running windows 8 pro from tomorrow evening onwards.
- A VLC or equivalent application.
- A Dropbox App
- Microsoft Office documents read and write. Can you store Excel spreadsheets on this Skydrive thingy and read/modify it on the phone whenever you want ?
- And lastly a complete email client. I guess there's an Outlook on theese things, but could you please confirm ?
I know the GS4 will be better in terms of pure hardware, but I'm generally not a big Google fan, and I would like to avoid having work stuff on Google's Android. I guess if I take the Lumia I'll switch the Asus Transformer for a Surface 2 when it comes out. This said I was extremely pissed off with my whole Nokia N-8 experience, and try to be sure I'm not making the same mistake again...
Thanks a lot.
Kind regards,
A prospective
Wouldn't know about Citrix, Android tethering or VLC, but as to the rest, the answer is yes. I got my 920 as soon as AT&T posted them, and I love it.
No problem tethering an android tablet...or any tablet for that matter. Not sure on VLC

I'm using Windows Phone for years since in my opinion is the most stable and user friendly phone experience... In my smartphone telephony is still the most important thing, thats a reason why i left Android, it's not acceptable for my that my phone reboots and hangs on the pin screen which android did a lot
- A Citrix app (good), thethering on an Android tablet (even better) or both (awesomeness).
Wifi-Tethering is build in in Windows phone, don't know about a citrix app
- Reasonable amounts of games for train strikes.
There are enough games on Windows phone, sure there are more on iOS and Android, but now with native coding and xbox live every day more games are coming
- Reasonable pictures taken (I heard the Lumia is amazing on this side)
Windows Phone is the best an fastest picture taking experience you can get on a smartphone, every phone has a dedicated camera button which starts the camera super fast... and you can view your last shot in milliseconds.. which is taking ages on android... The quality of the pictures depends on your smartphone... if you want good pictures take Nokia or Samsung... but do not take a HTC for pictures ^^
- NO BLOODY NOKIA OVI SUITE. NO. NO. NO.
No ovi suite
- A SIMPLE software to synch the phone music/pics/videos, and save the phone contacts. I'll be running windows 8 pro from tomorrow evening onwards.
It's all done directly from the phone to your live account no need for a PC for pictures, calender and phone contacts...
If you want music or videos, just copy them from the explorer to your phone
- A VLC or equivalent application.
VLC is coming, right now you have xbox video... i play everything i throw at it
- A Dropbox App
I use Skydrive so i don't know abaout Dropbox
- Microsoft Office documents read and write. Can you store Excel spreadsheets on this Skydrive thingy and read/modify it on the phone whenever you want ?
Yes, Yes, Yes
- And lastly a complete email client. I guess there's an Outlook on theese things, but could you please confirm ?
Email is solid and built in, and you can even "zoom in" into your HTML mails unlike on android

Xbox video will not play MKV files. Or at least the encodes that much of the anime fansubs are done in.
Thank you for all your answers.
I will wait a little and see if I get along fine wih windows 8, and then I guess I'll switch to the 920.
Thanks for your time.
Kind regards,

I'm running outlook synced with work server. it runs well and updated all my contacts and appointments well. i can also update appointments and sync using my phone. only downside so far is pdf experience. Office files can be saved on phone and skydrive so you can work offline. I like also nokia map as it is offline as many times i am in china and don't have cell data only wifi. New update for skype allows notifications as well which was finally released. I been happy with phone only couple of hangs since november. i also dropped it from good height and only got couple minor dings on frame of phone.
Oh well.
I did my usual thing. Sigh. Say "f*** it". Ordered it.
I hope I'll like it

Hi,
I own a lumia 800 and i love it. Lately tho im very frustrated with it due to some core functions. I just want to know if these problems exists with windows phone 8 .
1. Messaging hub. Sometimes i receive the messages, sometimes i dont. And not just facebook, even the ones from windows messenger. I know that one doesnt work anymore or something, so my next question would be how good does the skype messaging is integrated in the message hub?
This is THE biggest concern of mine btw, i cant play message roulette. I have to check the facebook app so often just to see the messages that im not getting with the messaging hub. Is ridiculous !!!
2. Wi fi not staying on when screen is close. If it was a future i would understand, sometimes it stays, sometimes it doesnt, seems so random that i dont know what to believe about this "feature"
3.Skype not working in the background. No clue how this is possible, it works great with android, it works great with iphone, but not with the very company that owns skype? Is this fixed in windows phone 8?
I guess these are the biggest concerns i have. On paper this OS looks great but with so many hit and miss it makes it not worth it for me.
I really am hopping someone will tell me windows phone 8 doesnt have all these messaging problems, cause if they exists im just gonna drop windows phone and go back to apple. Would really hate to do that, i love all the good things windows phone has to offer , or at least is SUPPOSE to.
Thank you.
I don't use Facebook or Skype, but there is an option to keep WiFi on, and my mail tile updates as it should. To get an idea of messaging experience, search at answers.microsoft.com, WP8 forum.
I don't use Skype but WP8 doesn't allow any app to run continuously in background, unlike Android, which means the toasts we see when the phone is in lockscreen are push notification from the app server. The reasoning is to keep your battery life healthy and phone fast, but not every app has its own server, haiz. And Skype and WP are 2 different divisions, so yeah, they are like two cousins, not siblings.

I am using all the social networks that exist in WP8, and they r working pretty good. Now about FB - u will receive every single message IF u r to answer from ur phone. If some computer interrcepts the messages (u r online on some of ur computers, the messages might not all get delivered to ur phone).
As u were told, the WiFi can be set to always ON, no worries about that.
Skype and MSN Messenger are now 1, and it is always in the background, and cannot be turned OFF. At least I haven't found a way. There is just a possibility to hit switch accounts, and that way u r logged out.
Hi! I'm a long time android user that is interested in trying out the Windows mobile experience. I'm an Insider tester so I started with just wanting to get a device but if I'm buying one then it will be my primary cell phone so I need a little convincing to make the purchase.
One of my sticklers is the low DPI on the 925. I don't like how most small screened phone tend to have low DPI and the 925 doesn't seem to be an exception, so is there a way that I can increase the DPI?
How is the integration between the phone and the desktop OS?
Is it snappy and responsive?
How is the rom/firmware/custom stuff selection for the 925? Specifically podcast, reddit and Google apps (Hangouts and Mail)
How's the app selection nowadays?
Thank you for your help! Help me become one of you! Otherwise i'm just going to buy a MotoG.

So, DPI is a hardware issue, you can't just increase it.
For intergration, you can load your favorites and tabs from IE. It will load your contacts and calander from any email account.
Podcast is built in, if the particular podcast isn't found you can use the RSS link and add it, that works really well.
There are some apps for redit, thought I don't think there's a native app.
There are no apps that I've found that can handle google hangouts. I typcially just load them in the browser. I know this is a big stiking point for most people, but google will not support Windows anymore than it has to, which is pretty minimal. I use whatsapp for most of my messagineg.

So, would you recommend the 925 as a 'starter' windows phone? I'm on Tmobile and have about 100$ or so to spend. Is there a better one for that price? : \ Tmobile has a terrible windows phone selection and pricing compared to ATT.
I found apps that support multiprotcol IM and gmail checking; so that's covered. I can get past the DPI thing because it's not too bad with that resolution. Better than my old Galaxy SII anyway.
Hi all.
I am just on the verge of starting uni and have been told that we have access to a university version of Microsoft Office 365 for free.
If I understand this right there are 3 possible versions of Word etc on a Chromebook.
The first and I think most "light" version is that of the online version of each app.
Then you've got the google apps version from the play storethat runs on a lot of Chromebooks now, this a bit more full version.
The third as in the title...is by (possibly) downloading some sort of more 'official' 365 uni app that my uni is offering.
It's this third option I'm really into, I would love to have the FULL software with all its functionality working on my:
ASUSC302CA
PC
Oneplus 5.
Does anyone know how to install this more professional and full 365 onto a Chromebook? Is it a difficult progress?
Can someone write the steps out for me or let me know what to do? Would be great if I could get full functionality!
Thanks for your time in advance, cheers, ste.
doesn't look like you had any answers to this yet and since I've just joined the chromebook converted I figured id share some experience on this topic.
Seems the answer is in how you log into the office 365 account. I have two one from university faculty (aka work) and one from the before time (back when hotmail was cool)
first out of the gate I used the old one and when logged in i found nothing. no notes note clippings in one-note no docs nothing! Did some reading and found out that using work account will produce different results.
Neither are good for offline use so with luck you have the version of chromeOS that will let you run android apps.
Also it would seem that your sign in account will only show you what tools you have paid for and if your uni has anted up for the full package it will display all these tools. Sort of like the windows key. Home use pro use education use et all.
Its been a while since you posted did you find out anything contrary to my experience.?
Thanks
Hi
Ended up getting a surface laptop 2 so all is fine, tanks for getting back, ste
For several years now google has had the Acer Chromebook CB3-131 on Planned for android apps and Playstore, but so far no updates, either they forgot it or its going to be updated in far future. Is there any option to get android apps and maybe Playstore working?
I don't really want to install anything on this one as it only has 16GB storage and always get "out of storage space" popup(even with only a few apps installed, chomeOS is too big for 16GB), but Android apps is the only way to get it to print to network printer as Google Cloud print has been discontinued and this laptop not yet has linux.
And the fact that Cannon dropped the ball and never made a Chromebook driver for it, so can't even use it by USB. There are android app for this printer and also Linux driver.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=jp.co.canon.bsd.ad.pixmaprint&hl=en&gl=US
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=jp.co.canon.android.printservice.plugin&hl=en&gl=US
https://ph.canon/en/support/PIXMA MG3070__ MG3070S__ MG3077/model
The printer is Cannon PIXMA MG3070S announced as Cloud Print ready when I bought it a year ago(only to find out Cloud Print were going to be discontinued, after the purchase)
It works fine with my Xubuntu laptop but not the Chromebook. Even before, Cloud print only worked if my laptop were online and on the same network. Very annoying.
I can't be that I have to get my GF another laptop just to be able to print, that is just too stupid and there has to be a work around.
Hope someone here can crack that nut
Thank you in advance
Jan
I guees nobody have a solution for this or care!
