Repair/ Upcycle: Looking for schematic for Archos 101b Oxygen - Gen8, Gen9, Gen10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all,
I'd like to figure out If I can repair my Archos 101b Oxygen tablet, and later reuse the screen for a powerfull Raspberry Pi clone (NanoPi M4, hast 4 MIPI-DSI lanes).
From my initial inspection the power/charging chip is blown, should be easy to run from a lab power supply bypassing that chip and the battery.
I look for either
- a datasheet for the LCD panel used, or even better,
- the complete schematic for the 101b tablet (or a similar tablet with the same MT8163 chipset)
Thanks for your help,
pit

[Q] HW Touchscreen defect with G9 101 Turbo 1.5Ghz?

Hi folks,
Has anyone ever had touchscreen issues with the 101 G9 Turbo?
I have a very simular issue to this post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1458555&highlight=multitouch
I recently purchased two Archos G9 101 Turbo (1.5Ghz) tablets both had the same touchscreen defect. Video shown has "Developer options, Show touches" enabled. http://youtu.be/V5OYq9E5j1I
Anything more than a gentle touch on the screen will cause a number of additional touches in the surrounding area. Even holding the tablet from the rear using one hand will cause this problem.
I never had this problem with the original G9 101...
Is this normal or a genuine hardware defect?
I'm trying to work out if I should return them and get a replacement or go for a refund
Thanks
-Richard
I have a new 101 G9 Turbo and have no similar touch screen issues.
Sounds like a HW issue to me.

Is your model a 1.5Ghz/512Mb or 1.2Ghz/512Mb ? have you had it long?
Thanks
-Richard
As per my signature, it's 1.5GHz CPU, 1Gb RAM, 16Gb Flash. Had it about 2 weeks (bought to replace a smashed 80G9 non-turbo!)

Thanks.
I took them back to HMV they brought out another tablet with a very different serial number but again it had the same fault.
Might have to try a different store

Touchscreen defect
Already got two Archos 101G9 Turbos with same problem.
Waiting for third device under guarantee. I hope this is a hardware bug from one batch.
Waiting already 8 weeks for new device, according to Archos ´waiting for spare parts to repair´.
Sounds they know what the problem is and dont swap for a new one.
Fingers crossed.

Frank are yours also the 8Gb model?
I think it only affects recent (2012?) 8GB 1.5Ghz Turbo models with ICS pre-installed.
I've managed to get two older 16GB 1.5Ghz Turbo's with Honeycomb which are un-affected, they feel much more rigid and dont flex.

Richard, I have the Archos 101g9 250Gb Turbo. I tried ICS pre-installed version, ICS rooted version, Android 3.2.
All the same problem.
It looks like software/driver problem because the screen rotates when I rotate the tablet when the touchscreen is not working.
Maybe if the tablet is hot, or busy, or coming back from stand-by. I cant find a cause yet, and now its already for two months at Archos for guarantee

For those who experience problems with the lcd screen of there Archos, I can tell you why this happens.
I have an Archos 101 g9 250 gb Tablet. I now experience problems with my screen. When I press the bottom of the tablet the screen flickers, All kind of colors show.
My warranty is over, I contacted archos in France, China (manufacturer). No reply at all.
I found out that this is an problem that happens a lot with Archos tablet.
So what to do now. I opened it, checked the yellow ribbon that connects the lcd screen to the hardware of the tablet. See the pictures. After some fiddling I found out that the ribbon has a weak part.
The ribbon is made out of two parts. The connection to the lcd screen is 40 pin, while the ribbon itself is 20 pin. They soldered the 40 pin to the 20 pin. Where it is soldered together some pins are broken.
This 40 pin connection is on the bottom of the lcd screen. So, when you press on the bottom of the tablet, you automatically press on the connection.
I tried to repair it, but I found out that repairing is impossible. It is to small.
And now I can throw the tablet away.
My name is Reinier from the Netherlands.

[Q] Looking for the right model number of my Yarvik tablet

My friend has given me his Yarvik tablet so I can repair it. It turned out, he had flashed the wrong firmware image. I can boot the tablet and I can enter the stock recovery mode, but I cannot turn on WiFi and Bluetooth.
It is possible to flash various firmware images to my tablet using the YarvikLiveSuit, I am just looking for the right model number of the tablet.
The specifications of the Yarvik tablet are:
1024x768 (XGA) screen
9.7" display
5V DC adapter
HDMI port
USB slave port
MicroSD port
USB master port
Audio jack
Front and back camera (don't know the resolution)
I also have some pictures: hxxp://imgur.com/a/WV7nA
I have used some filters to differentiate the Yarvik models, but there are 6 possible models that could be the right one:
hxxp://tweakers.net/categorie/822/tablets/producten/#filter:TY7LCoMwEEX_ZdZWMpOHEz-g0EVXXRYXqYYiqIiWUir-e5Mq6mryOOfOneAxuK66VCPkd0K2RQK9e_pb_fWQoxDhOtSlv9Yd5CdMYOx9ea6blx-CMQGxkXG28R9smkECrfus5zmJgIrA2zVhA2iFUCzPuHukzeahkayiiYbEZoJkwWtedsiz1gZTI3MYkqX-pyMLPECsYy0SVkdIZ3aBDNFeIUvVVkEKSgXM8_wD
I am looking for the right firmware to flash. I have already tried these:
TAB465EUK
TAB466EUK
TAB467EUK
TAB468EUK
TAB469EUK
With all of them I can boot up the tablet, but connectivity (WiFi, Bluetooth) cannot be turned on.
Can someone help me out by finding the right Yarvik model?
Thanks in advance.
Shameless bump

[Q] Help repairing archos 101 g9

[Q] HP ENVY Touchscreen: USB device ?

Hi all,
I'm new on this forum, and I'm building a DIY tablet with Orange Pi & A20 SoC (maybe I will change for LeMaker Bass) & Android 4.2.2 (v.5 with Bass).
This is a 17.3' screen tablet. I already have a IPS screen, and all works, 4h30 autonomy
Anyway, now I'm looking for a cheap but quality solution for a touch screen. So, multitouch, and easy interface: USB is the better choice for me.
I have seen the "HP ENVY TouchSmart 17 t" touch screen. About 90$ in Chineese shops. The others touch screen are about 180$, because not a serial manufacturing...
Here a pic of the PCB (attached file)
So, my question:It seems that the chip is eGalax (so no problem for the driver: /drivers/input/touchscreen/usbtouchscreen.c), and the interface looks USB (by looking CN1 ref) -> VDD, D+, D-, Ground
But, because of norms of USB VDD, D-, D+, Ground: D+ and D- are inversed... It distrub me a little.
Does somebody can confirm this is really an USB device ?
Thanks

Vizio M-Series TV Hacking (Mediatek CPU)

I found a previous thread about hacking Vizio TV's but I noted a lot of the folks trying to gain access were doing so through telnet or over the network. I just picked up a Vizio M551d-A2R, and taking a look at the mainboard on it I see a couple of un-populated headers that could be a serial and/or JTAG interface based on the traces and connector layout.
Anyone have experience with trying to gain write access to hardware via I2C or Jtag that could help a relative newbie hack his TV to pieces?
(Before you ask, I'm doing this more for the fun of it than any practical purpose, and who knows, maybe we'll see a Vizio TV section pop up on XDA if this goes well)
Technical specs on the TV:
(U20) Mediatek MT5590 (looks like a specially built version for TV's and I cant find a spec sheet)
(U4) Micron 16GB NAND (located on bottom)
(IC9/10) Nanya 128mb DDR3L x2 (256mb RAM total)
(IC11) Nanya 64mb DDR3L Ram
(IC4) EEPROM (cant read label properly)
(RN21) Unpopulated, looks like I'll need to add a bridge or jumper resistor here as it appears to be sitting on the I2C bus traces
(CN3) JTAG(?) header
(CN33) I2C Serial Bus header
Top of Mainboard
Bottom of Mainboard
vizio d24-d1
yes, i just jtag this vizio d24-d1, you need to use a 3.3 volt usb to serial and then solder the ground, tx and rx.
then you can load a terminal on whatever com port the usb to serial you set to use. email me if you need help finding the pins on the board.. and looking at your photos CN20 is probably it
get a meter and test which is ground usually one on left or right
then so the order would be
GND,TX,RX,3.3 volts, (dont hook the 3.3 volt to anything)
but the tx and rx will show 3.3 volts as well
