LG says Q2 2019. So, sometime between April and end of June.
That was my prediction from the beginning -- last year when it started being discussed. And I was right. LG finally confirmed it in January.
Basically about the same time of year they delivered Oreo last year.

I heard those dates for the Korean version, which would put us in 3q.
Desperately hoping that's wrong!

No, because the article also specifically mentioned the V30S, which is a US998 variant. All US998 firmware is the same for US998 V30/V30+/V30S.

the V40, V30, and V30S will have to wait until Q2 2019 (ends on June 30).

Even if LG tried to release Pie for just US998 V30S, it's still ALL of US998. Well, I mean I would feel sorry for the H930 variants and H932, but the rest of North America variants can flash US998 firmware. But I'm fairly certain it's ALL V30 variants in Q2. You can't say V30 and V30S and then leave out any.
From the Reddit thread:
LG also posted a list of LG phones that will receive Pie in Korean. Availability may vary depending on your region.
2019 Q1: G7, V35
2019 Q2: V40, V30, V30S
2019 Q3: G6, V20, Q8 (2018)
2019 Q4: Q9, X5 (2018)

Not all V30S are US998 variants though
The V300LW/KW/SW are korean V30S(+). So could very well be that "we" all will receive pie only in Q3, while the koreans still get it in Q2.
One thing is certain, LG is not a brand for those who love having an updated phone, given this behavior, my next smartphone will certainly not be LG !!

@SGCMarkus, thank you for the information about the Korean V30S. I hadn't run across the Korean variants of the V30S, but with the model numbers you supplied it was now easy to find.
I also knew while initially LG had also announced a 256GB V30S+, I never saw any proof it actually released. Here in the U.S. only the 128GB V30S was released, basically a V30+ with 6GB RAM.
But here are the details for anyone else who is interested in the V30S:

If you want quick updates, you go Google. All those OEM's listed still update slow. Maybe except for Nokia, which no one is buying anyway. Everyone else is all pretty slow.
People aren't buying any of those guys for the updates. They're buying them for what the phones offer out of the box.
If you bought an LG phone and you were seriously expecting reasonable updates, you haven't been paying attention.
So go whine about not buying an LG phone again because it's not being updated fast enough for you. That should have been apparent with their history of slow updates.

Can we just all agree we know LG is bad about updates? No need to go back and forth.
Yet LG promised about a year ago to do better. So there's some disappointment there, in spite of their acknowledged bad history before that.

It's old news that LG is bad about updates. Everyone should know that. It's foolish to have believed their promise that they would do better without any substantial proof to support that claim.
I got the V30 because it was a good purchase out of the box. I bought this phone knowing that I'd be upgrading to a phone with the latest software before this phone was updated. I've used a lot of LG phones. [emoji2377]
They don't surprise me. They shouldn't surprise anyone at this point. I'd have been surprised if they lived up to their promise for faster updates.

Wait for the carrier unlocked versions European or U.S.) which will be eligible for official bootloader unlock.
See this thread:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=3665927
I believe most LG flagships Single SIM International version will be definitely bootloader unlocked and of course root. example for the LG G6 the model is LG H870, for the LG V30 , it should be LG H930! If my country ships an LG V30 with impossible bootloader unlocked (could be a dual SIM LG flagship like the LG H930DS ) I'll instead buy LG H930 from Online (EBay or Amazon)!

Yes, H930 (with no other characters) is the unlocked version for Europe.
https://www.techwalls.com/lg-v30-model-number-differences/
The problem is AFTER the U.S. and European LG G6 unlocked carrier versions were released, LG waited ANOTHER SIX WEEKS to put them on the official bootloader unlock list. I hope they don't wait that long for the LG V30. Otherwise would be end of December before we could unlock bootloader and root the carrier unlocked versions.

That six week delay, coupled with the wait for the darn unlocked version just to be released, is the disappointed point for me.
I just will not buy an Android based device in which I can't root.
I hate missing all the carrier costs savings (BOGO) and free gifts from ordering from T-Mobile, but these locked bootloader's for $800 devices is just ridiculous.
I'll get back to the V30 come December I guess.

Nothing official but more than likely around the middle of November, at least what some sites are hinting towards.
the LG V30 is the most gorgeous phone they've ever made. I like that it doesn't have overly curved sides creating a glare. BUT....I have to have full theming available. The theming out of the box doesn't cut it. I need everything to be black with an accent color of my choosing.

You mean the 600MHz frequency? LTE BAND 71? The new U.S. T-Mobile LTE band? Not sure why you used the words "network speed".
I'm not speaking for LG, but European carrier unlocked V30 wouldn't need it. What carriers in Europe are using that LTE band? It's not just software, but also hardware (antennas) needed to send/receive that new LTE band.
For instance the South Korea LG V30 model does not have that band.
We have yet to see if the U.S. carrier unlocked version will definitely have it on release. It should, as all the U.S. variants should have the same hardware, with various bands enabled/disabled according to carrier needs. Verizon doesn't need LTE band 71, T-Mobile does.
But it would make sense for LG to basically make the same phone for all of North America, and then enable/disable bands for various carriers.
The "carrier unlocked" version US998 SHOULD have all the U.S./Canada bands enabled. One dept. of T-Mobile said it would, but another said it wouldn't or they didn't know. But LG doesn't need T-Mobile permission to enable that band on a phone T-Mobile is not selling (carrier unlocked version, US998). T-Mobile can't speak for LG.

Hi Chazz,
Well here's the problem though. T-Mobile REQUIRED VoLTE to be certified with them before it works. It takes time and money to get certified. But like AT&T and Verizon don't, so not as difficult with them. That's why I'm asking cuz no official word yet on the unlocked V30 getting it. Obviously for sure the locked T-Mobile variant will be VoLTE-certified with T-Mo though.
Yeah Wi-Fi Calling I think is only available on T-Mobile still. I think?

Hey Chazz,
Any idea if the unlocked US V30's DAC will get B&O Certification like the int'l V20 did (but US V20 didn't)?
What about the locked US ones?? Will any version get it? Update: Ok it looks like the US version won't get it, but the European one will. Oh well. No big deal.
It appears that the unlocked V30 will get released on 10/27. B&H.com shows that date for the US998. I'm very likely going to buy it.

No, I don't know about the B&O certification. It really took me by surprise the U.S. carrier versions didn't have B&O logo on the back and didn't have B&O headphones included. LG made such a big deal about that in the press release...
Yet, all the pre-production "US998" phones lent out for few weeks to U.S.-based tech reporters (which had to be returned after reviews) did have B&O logo and did have the headphones.
(Nobody got "free phones". That was a myth some people were spreading, saying that's why the V30 got such great reviews. People who don't understand how all this works. Yes, it helps for reviewers to have new phones in hand for a couple of weeks prior to global announcement -- with signed non-disclosure agreements -- so they can immediately write about them when embargo is lifted, but those phones are loaners. Nobody gets to keep $800 phones.)
So, does that mean the production official carrier unlocked US998 with also have those B&O features -- since the pre-production model did? Your guess is as good as mine.
I'm hoping the 10/27 date by B&H is not just a placeholder date that will mysteriously morph into 11/14 or something. Just keep in mind 10/27 would be two weeks sooner than the LG G6 US997 was released after carriers started selling their versions. Then, six weeks after that (total of 11 weeks after carrier versions) was the LG G6 US997 (and European counterpart) placed on the official bootloader unlock list. Since I'm not buying until I can root from Day 1, just when B&H starts selling is not as important as the bootloader unlock list.
I'm hoping LG speeds up the total timeline, including adding LG V30 US998 and H930 to the bootloader unlock list. THEN, the real fun can begin.

I can just sell the Plus tablet for prob at least $180 on eBay so F it. lol Plus I'm gonna sell my Topaz Gold HTC 10 for maybe $250? and then pay off the remaining $140 I owe on it. They ran out of the Topaz Gold one months ago, so I'm guessing that's why it's going for higher than the other colors (selling for around $200 vs. $300) which they still had available more recently.
Just called T-Mobile now and bought the locked V30 over the phone. I'd still like to thank you so much for all your help & info here! It is VERY much appreciated Chazz.

One thing, the locked T-Mo V30 will have that Band 71/600 MHz capability (first one ever on their network). Do we have any idea if the unlocked V30 will have that too? VoLTE seems pretty likely given your findings on the unlocked G6, but what about this?
Need full system dumps or full images for the locked/unlocked US version to possibly find out the B71 support.
Went through Korean version system dump but couldn't find hints for B71.

Interesting.
Do we know if Korea even has Band 71? That would probably be a good indication of if the unlocked one will get it too.
This is the reason why I went for the T-Mobile locked version............guaranteed Band 71 (though my area doesn't have it, YET lol)........plus guaranteed T-Mo Certified VoLTE. The unlocked V30 I believe probably will have VoLTE, but will it be T-Mo certified VoLTE is the real question for me. With the promo T-Mo is running to get the $500 G6 for free (which I am selling at a profit of course lol.....made more sense to get that vs. the tablet and then profit less) along with your V30 purchase, then the price difference b/t the unlocked and locked versions no longer matters. I'm selling the G6 to a relative, and agreed to $225. That right there puts my $800 locked V30 at below the expected price of the unlocked ($700?) if you subtract that profit from the $800 cost. Yeah I'll have bloatware lol, but I'll just disable or uninstall them.
Thanks for checkin' into this VeixES!

Well then I'm VERY glad I got the T-Mobile locked version. lol
So it appears that I am eligible to receive either $425 cash or $700 credit towards an LG smartphone. My LG G4 previously bootlooped of course. Which option is recommended?
1. Keep unlocked LG G6 and get $425 cash.
2. Use $700 credit to get unlocked LG V30 ($675 at bhphoto) and sell LG G6.
It seems like the V30 is an upgrade across the board. Except maybe the screen, I am not sure how the oled compares to the LCD on the G6. Also, it is interesting that the average review score on this site is lower for the V30 vs the G6.

Not sure what you want to start. The V30 is clearly superior to the G6. (You are even posting from V30.)
That's what the op really wanted to know -- which is better? The G6 was basically a prototype for the V30. But had incomplete specs and 2016 Snapdragon.
If there was a problem with the display I wouldn't own three V30/V30+, is my point and I will make that point every time it's relevant to the discussion.
I find it funny you think I shouldn't mention that, when months ago I was waiting for the open market US998 to be released and some members seemed to find ways to mention I didn't even own this phone yet. (Yet, I knew all about it.) Well, I own three now and two of them will soon be bootloader unlocked and rooted... Hopefully soon all three if LG adds the V30+ to the list.

Let me make this elementary for you:
I never responded to OP. I responded to another.
I never said anything about the V30's display.
Then, here you come, riding in your white horse that has the staggers and blind in one eye not seeing the picture clearly, and defending the V30 unnecessarily.
Here again, you tell us you own three V30's. I guess that means you know three times as much as the rest of us.
Guess what, we own the V30, too. OMG, imagine that.
Now back the **** down and stop being an ass like you often do to people.

Even if that's true - I find myself skeptical - OLED has better response times and should be more efficient unless the brightness is constantly at 100% and displaying light colors. With auto-brightness allowed to do its thing, I'd bet on OLED.
---
I'd say use the credit and get the OM V30. Consider:
The V30 is more or less current hardware
The V30's screen-on time reportedly varies between "adequate" and "amazes even Samsung shills"
You're straight up "getting" $250 more off the lawsuit result by buying it from B&H
You can turn around and sell your g6 for an additional $200+, half of what you'd get if you just took the cash anyway
The only potential problem you face is getting a display panel with less-than-ideal uniformity at low brightnesses... not sure if B&H will exchange it if it bothers you, and LG refuses to cover it under warranty. Blatant defects (lines/bands/dead LEDs/etc) shouldn't be an issue, though.
Unless you really love your g6, or are hard-pressed for the immediate cash payout, the choice seems pretty obvious to me.

I have the V30+
It's my least favorite phone out of the 4 I currently have.
I went with the 425$ and I kept the V30+ for a whopping 3 months before I paid it off and traded it in to get 50% off my EIP on the S9+ (TMobile US)

v30 has too many problems. i would have returned mine but i dropped it and scratched the side. the software on this phone seems underdeveloped. weird crashes for no reason in apps like netflix. i also have the blotchy blacks on the OLED. i can live with it, but would not choose it again. if you like your g6, hang onto it.

Next gen Snapdragon (not 2016 Snapdragon in a 2017 phone), Qi wireless charging (for all variants), quad DAC (for all variants), at least 64GB storage (for all variants).

I'm sure the answer is that it won't work, but I want to confirm.
Will doing this ruin LG Pay when it's eventually released in the US or will there be a way to fix it IE Magisk or something.
Recently switched from an S8 and I miss Samsung Pay.
like the look of the V30S, especially since it's $230 cheaper than the V35. Has anyone actually bought and tried it? I'd like to use it on Verizon and it has all the right bands to work but I want to be sure. And it would be nice to know if it's Treble enabled.

As a user of Straight Talk, which uses Verizon networks, the phone works just fine.
Switched from an S8+ to this. So far I'm liking it. The only real difference I've noticed is that it's only slightly smaller. Battery great. 50% after 12 hours. About four of which it was used.
V30S on the way

You need to ask these questions over in the V30 forum. The V30S is just another V30 "Joan" variant, like the V30+. They are all "Joan" devices, same TWRP works for all, same ROMs work for all.
The LG V35 is the one that is different that need their own forum! V30S is just another V30, but with more RAM.

"V30s" is not in the list. Is that because it's not compatible... or because LG has mucked up the model numbers so much that it's hard to keep straight and it was accidentally omitted? lol
I thought the V30S has Google Lens and more AI options in the camera and voice controls, hence the ThinQ in the model name. Like the G7 has. If all this is true... Does that mean I could flash the V30S stock ROM to my V30 (US998, 64GB, 4GB) and get those extra features?! Or, am I wrong, and the stock V30S ROM is the same as my stock V30 ROM? Where can I even get the V30S stock ROM? It's not in the V30 forum, nor is it here.
I know that LG has cast off the shackles of the traditional release cycle, and is releasing much more iterative updates more frequently... so... at what point does the hardware diverge enough to prevent cross-flashing the stock ROMs among versions?
Thanks for the help. I've been happily humming along with my US998 on 20B lately, and just recently played with a G7 and Google Lens in the camera. Now I'm digging a little and getting confused.

Pigs are flying.
Hell has frozen over.
Not only because Korean variants are not first, but because U.S. carrier VERIZON (who is always last with updates) was first. (For V30, Verizon had to do both 20a AND 20b to get all Oreo ThinQ features everyone else got in 20a. So all their future updates were a letter off.)
Someone at LG either has a very sarcastic sense of humor or someone at LG is getting fired...

Not much change in UI.
-Secondary keyboard keys are a bit funky
-I would consider the circled stuff as bloat/useless
-Ringtone menu items are in Korean
-Running apps slides have rounded edges

Non-Korean V35 have been able to Partition DL to Korean Pie, and everything works. Like U.S. T-Mobile... Not sure if that will be the same for V30. For instance, I know European and Korean V30 radios are incompatible.
Korean variants V35 have had Pie for weeks now. Others will get it in the near future.. At least for U.S. users the Partition DL trick works for now, for them.

Verizon V40 was first in the entire world, not just U.S. Some news articles kept stressing Verizon V40 Pie was for "users in the U.S.", which may give some the impression that there was V40 already for users elsewhere. There's not and that guy below is totally wrong.

In fact, U.S. T-mobile was rumored to be the first to get V40 Pie worldwide (in the world)... U.S. T-mobile even updated their website last week to include Pie notes for their V40 variant. But Verizon beat them to it! However, until it actually happened, I still thought LG was going going to force U.S. carriers to wait until after Korean carriers got V40 Pie. Very strange situation.
