Android bootloader and hdmi cable support - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello, this is my first post so sorry if it shouldnt be posted here. I have 2 different tablets, a first one a Lenovo tab 10 that cant access the Bootloader screen (need to access it for having an autoboot option) and a second one that i managed to access the bootloader, do the autoboot option BUT i cant use a Hdmi to microusb cable for showing the tablet screen in the tv. (I have tested in the other device and the cable is working). How can i know if a tablet supports bootloader option and can use the Hdmi cable to mirro the screen(having issues for knowing what the tablet needs to mirror screen using the adapter)? Can anyone suggest me any model?(not looking for a powerfull tablet more for a economic model). The usb to hdmi cable i have is the classic you can find at amazon, but i could buy other model. Thanks for any help,
Mario.

No touchscreen. Would like to run only in dock mode.

Hello,
My Atrix 4G has has no touchscreen. I don't feel like buying a new digitizer and replacing it. I would like to use my Atrix as a media center only connected to my TV. Is it possible for me to set it up to run without a digitizer/touchscreen and only use with my TV and a wireless mouse/keyboard?
Thanks
Jon

Yes, it's possible. Just plug the cellphone and the keyboard / mouse to the dock (in case they work via USB dongle / not bluetooth) and it's set to work the way you want.

That's great to know. Is it possible to plug a usb mouse/keyboard directly into the body of the Atrix with a micro usb adapter and get around Android without a touchscreen?
Thanks for your help,

Unfortunately, that's not possible. The usual microUSB / female USB cables, as used with a lot of other smartphones, doesn't work with the atrix, our phone needs an external power outlet to be able to work with USB devices. You can either use the multimedia Dock or a 'custom' cable, I saw some time ago in youtube a tutorial teaching how to make a custom one, or maybe you can find it in ebay (not sure, never looked for it, to be sincere).

the cable you are talking about is called udb otg ( on the go), switch the phone's usb port into host mode.. only drawback is that atrix can't supply power to the usb, you must use an external power source for the devicr attached

I managed to use my atrix with the lapdock for around a month while I sourced a new digitizer and it worked great. I would recommend that you find a work and play kit second hand as I often use the webtop for watching on-demand tv and someone is working on a full resolution xbmc port that would work great with the remote. You might also be able to use the usb host ports to mount a fat32 hd as a media drive. The atrix can work really well without its digitizer.

I too am interested in this as I have an Atrix 4G with a broken screen. I was thinking about buying a device like the Roku or the MK802. I guess I could just get the Motorola Entertainment Center from Amazon.
Is there a ROM that would be best for the purpose of using the Atrix as a TV only device.
I posted a tutorial in general for using hdmi and tablet mode with the backlight for the digitizer off. This might give you ideas for using the hdmi port with or without your favorite hdmi enabled Moto dock.

Hi, I just bought this tablet and it works great. My only issue is the HDMI output does not do dual display. The tablet screen goes black and I can
view the morrow image on my big TV. It is very hard to guess on the black screen tablet to operate the touch screen properly. I want to know if
anyone has confirmed using an OTG cable on this device hooking up a mouse? The owners manual says USB devices are supported, such as a
keyboard and mouse through USB port. Customer service is not sure and will not verify. I have a micro USB to bigger USB with a female 2 ended attachment to plug in a USB mouse, and did not work. Do I need to try the OTG adapter to really know? I am hoping someone can verify it does
work before I order one. I believe the owners manual is for all Tablets and may not be compatible with the OTG adapter mouse. Any help would
be much appreciated. Thank you in advance.

Connecting z2 to HMDI

Hallo every one
I was at the market want to have cable to connect my z2 to my TV with HMDI
So there was to way to do this
1 from HMDI to micro USB
2 frome HMDI to normal USB and then cable to micro USB
And I like the choice nbr 2 because I can connect my laptop too
But Iam not sure if my phone will work
Did any one know about this before I buy it because it's costs 40€ and I must be sure.
many thanks.
Xperia Z2 has MHL so if you buy micro USB > HDMI it will work. (I don't know if it works on custom roms but on stock it should work properly).
USB in laptops/PCs cannot sync video due that video output is from graphics card and USB has nothing to do with graphics card.
Something else is if you have USB type C and if manufacturer guarantee that it can sync video.
Next case, that is price. 40€ for that? You will overpay! You can buy that for about 3€ on Aliexpress
Ah, but his Z2 is HMDI so it will never work

Haha xD
Bumping: When buying an MHL adapter, make sure it's not made specifically for samsung devices, because there's no cross-compatibility. Talk about "standards".
PD: I tried buying one from gearbest. The package never arrived. Such is life in Bolivia.
Bumping again: someone knows how to connect MHL and OTG simultaneously on Z2?
Thanks in advance
No. It's not possible. At least not with the Z2.
The USB port, and the chipset only supports either USB mode, or MHL (hdmi) mode. Not both at the same time.
It can however charge the device while in MHL mode.
Even though there are multi port adapters out, the same thing goes. Either or. Not both.
Some other manufacturers devices DO support both modes simultaneously, but only through the special port and a special adapter for that particular device. I.e. Samsung 11 pin port for some galaxy variants.
If you're interested in keyboard and mice, there are Bluetooth capable keyboards and mice out there. That'll work.
For storage I'd suggest using a larger SD card in the SD card slot.

HDMI cable for your Galaxy S7 found at last

While looking to find a HDMI cable solution for my Moto Z, I came across a solution for the Galaxy S7.
- purchase this cable: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/272686294141?clk_rvr_id=1297701036148&rmvSB=true
- enable USB debugging
- go to display in settings and set it to the highest resolution
- connect your phone to this cable using your original USB power cable
- Job done.... now you have a solution for connecting your Samsung Galaxy S7 to any TV via HDMI (works for the Moto Z as well using a usb C power cable)
Listing at ebay was already removed...
Try this:
https://www.amazon.com/Lightning-Di...coding=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=2M2695KH4352C43XXN94
Any displaylink hardware could send the image to the HDMI o VGA port. I have the Targus Multi Display Adapter and I'm able to connect my S7 to a VGA port or HDMI Port without any problem. You can connect a USB keyboard and mouse too! You only need to install the diplaylink app for android
There are many hardware with this technology
Does the ethernet port work with the Targus and S7?
I looking for cable for Samsung S7 it's even possible?
MHL (the primary hdmi to usb micro protocol) does NOT work with S7 or S7 Edge as of at least Nougat. They lost MHL on the 7 line actually, S6 DID support it. Unless MHL support was added in Oreo, I am highly suspect of the claim that this cable "works". I have a rif6 cube projector and this is one of my few phones/tablets that I still can't use on the included MHL microusb-hdmi cable (which works with numerous other Android devices). DisplayLink may work but is an entirely different premise. DisplayLink uses proprietary protocol to send encoded video over usb or wifi. With the display link app installed, yes you may be able to wired/wirelessly output your display but this is similar to screen casting and encodes the video, not a raw hdmi out video cable. DisplayLink also assumes you actually have a DisplayLink capable display or device to cast to (which I sure don't haha)
Can anyone confirm this is still working on latest oreo firmware?
Also, allebay.amazon links are dead, what should we search for?
I am interested in getting one of these until Christmas!
I second that. Can anybody confirm any of these work?
Seems plausible
I cant be sure, but I'm pretty sure you need the microusb to OTG connector that came with the s7....it allows you to plug in standard USB devices such as flash drives, game controllers, etc. You then purchase a VGA displayLINK (not displayport) external USB graphics card....plug vga from USB graphics card to tv/monitor.
USB device handles graphics control..
App acts as linux/android driver so no need for MHL anything....android is an OS...
Sounds workable.....
worth a 30 - 40$ RETURNABLE purchase.....
Looking for VGA displayLINK external USB Graphics card
Would love to try the below suggested solution. I have the Micro-USB to USB OTG adapter that came with the Samsung S7. I've got VGA cables and a tv that will accept VGA. What I don't have is the USB to VGA adapter that is described below. Can you point me to where I can buy the correct item?
I see some USB to VGA adapters on Amazon, but not sure if they'll work with this set up. I'm new to this forum so I can't post links to outside sites, but just search Amazon for "USB to VGA Converter, USB 3.0/2.0 to VGA External Video Card Multi Screen Display Converter Support Resolution 1080p for Win 7/8/8.1/10 Desktop Laptop PC Monitor Projector HDTV [No Need CD Driver] " and you'll find what I'm talking about.
I thought displayLINK was way to wirless mirror my screen. That's not what I'm looking for. I can already do that with Chromecast, ClickShare, etc. I want to have a cabled connection to have in places where I don't have an internet connection at all. This is for business presentations, so I'm not concerned about lag for gaming, nor am I concerned with perfect resolution or even audio. I just want to display screen of my Samsung S7 on a larger display with a cabled connection that doesn't require internet.
