hi all few weeks ago i was looking for a way to surf the web on my eris and i had to take it to some one to set it up and he charged me $30 to put a shortcut on the home screen that say proxy settings but after the leaked 2.1 which unfortunately i installed on my eris instead of the rooted one i lost that shortcut so i did my researches and i found that if you download any cut from the market open it and go to New shortcut then Activity wait for the list to load scroll down to proxy settings open it and create a shortcut go bak to home screen and look for the proxy settings shortcut open it and for hostname use wap.metropcs.net and port 3128 click save restart and you be able to surf the web using the internet app
note:if you are connected to a wifi the internet app will not work in less you turn mobile network of and restart for that i have opera mini it will work on wifi but not on mobile so i use internet app for mobile and opera for wifi the rest of apps will work normal on wifi not on mobile only the mail app work normal on wifi and mobile use it to send and receive pix messages
also you must do the settings on ##7764726# and ##778# from @vzw3g.com to @mymetropcs.com for more information on that refer to these post http://www.howardforums.com/showthread.php?t=1466303
Do not skip any steps!!!!!
This works...
WAP
1: Goto settings -> Connections -> Connections
2: Remove any connections that are there
3: Open your phone and enter ##778#, select "EDIT" and enter your unlock code.000000
4: Set the following values:
M.IP Settings:
MIP_MODE = Simple IP Only
M.IP Default Profile:
NAI = [email protected]
Home Address = 0.0.0.0 (just delete the values and save)
Primary HA Address = 0.0.0.0 (just delete the values and save)
Secondary HA Address = 0.0.0.0 (just delete the values and save)
Security:

so now only i need to set the mms to send pix because i receive picture messages but can't send
So what kind of speeds do you get from metropcs?
We have metropcs here in Tampa, FL but from what I understand it comparable to dialup speeds. :/
Yea same here in Dallas if I'm on 1x I get dialup but on some areas I get 3g
Oh you put s.ip dun user name as @dun.metropcs.com

You'll need APN Backup & Restore (free from Market) to get your MMS working right. There's tutorials all over about what things need to be put in, but I just modify the 'Production' area in the xml file. Some people create/rename a whole area called 'metropcs'.
I've done this with Cricket. Good luck with Metro.
I have don it but not success

HTC Eris Metro internet apps (other than main internet browser) to work on metroweb
I have the HTC Droid Eris all flashed from Verison to MetroPCS on Android 2.1 rooted, I have Web(on the default UI Sense internet browser. All I want is to be able to use Android Market and other Apps like Trapster (to detect speed traps) without using WI-FI. I want to be able to use these internet dependent applications on Metro's mobile data network. So far have been unsuccessful. Does anyone know the secret Metro PCS settings that will make this happen ? Any ideas?

Is There a Way to Backup Your Metro Flash Settings?
I had my Eris flashed to Metro, but it wasn't syncing my contacts with Gmail correctly. People on these forums were saying that a hard reset would fix it. Tried that and of course all of my Metro Flash settings were wiped and my phone was reverted back to the original Verizon network. Is there a way to backup the Metro Flash settings or create some type of restore image, so I don't have to take it back to get reprogrammed every time I do a hard reset?
How do I know if I have all the APN setting correct?

Thanks about this guide now I have internet and mms working fully. I would kiss you in rl for this guid seriously I spent like week searching and finally found.
Just a tip you can't have mms working without having internet working. You get internet working then edit mms setting with apn backup and restore.

Download APN Backup & Restore from the market.
Back Up your APN's.
Upload them here, so that other MetroPCS users can have MMS working properly.
You would be a hero.
Also, if you want to actually help people, you can do a nand backup, then turn your phone on and delete all of your contacts and information the best that you can, then do a nand backup again, and upload the second nand backup.
APN Backup & Restore is how you edit APN's. They're not REALLY APN's, they're just for MMS, on this phone.
##778 pw 000000 is how you edit most connection settings
iptables in the system is how you put EVERYthing through the proxy (need root)
and APN Backup (then edit it on a computer in a text editor) is how you can edit the APN's.
Make sure you DELETE before you RESTORE or it will just add on to the APNS already there.
here is the eris flash for metro/cricket enjoy...
www-megaupload-com/?d=PV7PQ9UI
change the dashes to dots..
Yes, get your custom ROM in there, and then flash the .zip (within this .zip) that is appropriate for MetroPCS.
It's all there, and it should work perfectly.
Whilst using the root for my xperia x10 I ran into a problem, I couldn't use data on apps other than my browser(couldn't download anything either) but the only way to fix this is to go to Settings>Wireless Controls> Mobile Networks>Access Point Names... from there delete GoRogers, then press you options button and select New APN, put in Name- Rogers, Apn- rogers-core-appl1.apn, then save and you 3g access will be once more. Hope I helped, have a cheeky day
EDIT: I forgot to mention that this is only on the rogers network, sorry..
Edit: if core-rogers-appl1.apn didnt work call rogers to refresh network.

Sure it's faster, but without entering your MMS settings, I'm guessing you aren't able to send MMS messages (e.g. picture texts)?

Faster, simpler and incomplete. You're missing the MMS settings.
Just in case someone looks in here and doesn't look anywhere else, these are the settings:
Code:

After rooted to Build Number R2BA023, my 3G was not working.
So here is what i did ... by common sense (NO DISRESPECTED TO ANYONE).
Restart the x10i > goto into setting > Wirless controls > Network operators > Select automatically > then Auto internet settings > choose your operator (ie vodafone contract, PAYG etc).
Then my 3g is working .... easy, no fucing about with setting or inputting stuffs.
Oh yes, I am on vodafone contract with UK network. Dont know if this will work in different region.

the last part is very true.
with the auto-settings my 3g was slow and either than browsing no other internet function would work. i used the settings for 3g for rogers i found on the internet and everything works, and fast and now the market works on 3g(couldn't get it to work on 3g with the auto-settings).
dam this is a good fix!
is there a difference between entering rogers-core-appl1.apn and internet.com for Rogers apn in Canada?
internet.com just allows data to work, while the core-appl1 apn allows both data and mms to work.
the auto select apn feature sets up rogers phones with the goam.com access point, not internet.com or appl1. not sure what the difference is but the goam.com only seems to allow the browser to work. might be for those plans that allow unlimited mobile web surfing for cheap price?

until last week i too was adding both the internet.com and media.com apn manually, but it is a lot less work just adding the combined apn, especially when flashing back and forth, and back and forth again, with different roms.
you definitely do not want to use an android device without a data account, so if you have access to data but no data plan you could be setting yourself up for a huge bill!!
I'm not sure if this is just me or what... but ever since I have rooted, rogers My Account app wont show my data usage. It says 0mb used, when clearly I've used it way more... even downloaded apps using 3g from the market. I used the internet.com apn. Also it doesn't display my data usage on the rogers site either.. it says 0mb again. I can see all my minutes that I've used for voice and my texts but data sais nothing used. Am I somehow spoofing my data usage to rogers? I'm confused.

Good question. Will have to wait until my invoice is released in order to see how and if they are calculating my bandwidth as I am having the same issue. My invoice comes out tomorrow.
Edit: If it turns out it truly is this easy to game Rogers data usage... lets just keep it our little secret.

Hey all.
(Apologies if this thread is in the wrong forum/should be a continuation of another thread ... I haven't been here for 2 years or so and it didn't seem right to post this in the sticky.)
I set up an alternative APN as per the instructions, and it works fine. Have data connection, can make calls, etc.
However, when I try to set up the Wireless Hotspot option on the phone, it seems to take forever. It pops up a message saying (essentially) "Make sure you have permission to do this. Also it will drain your battery," and then it starts setting up the hotspot.
The problem is, I've been sitting at "Setting up data link" for about 10 minutes now, and I can't cancel it unless I reboot the phone.
Is anyone else having this problem? How long does the hotspot enable take you guys?
Make sure that as the APN Type you enter "default"
Christ, I accidentally hit "tab" and lost my whole reply. Gonna try to recreate it.
I saw that in the stickied thread. I couldn't update my post because I am apparently not verified and need to wait 5 minutes between posts, and I needed to drive to work.
For reference, here's the post that talks about that:

I get the same error about calling 611, I have the iphone unlimited plan so PHONE and PDPWAP1 apns are set up on network side. There seems to be a check script that runs before the hotspot turns on
Hope y'all figure this out, it is past me.

for me, having "default" set in APN type gave me the message to call 611 to activate. However, with my APN set up exactly how it appears in that stickied thread, it would just hang on setting it up. However, I just kept trying it, between reboots, and it finally launched the hotspot. I changed the settings and applied WPA security...
so, for me, it didn't work right out of the gate, but stick with that APN in the other thread and be patient. turn it on and wait... if it takes "too long", reboot and try again. It did finally turn on when I was at my office (full 5 bars of service, strongest "3G" signal in town) vs. at my fiance's house where I only have 1-2 bars of 3G (ok, H+) where I tried to first launch hotspot (and it hung on "setting up data link").
I've tried restarting the phone 3 or 4 times.
I also have a grandfathered unlimited data plan (my last phone was the Tilt - TytnII, so that shows you how long it's been since I've bothered screwing with phones and stuff).
Does anyone who's gotten the hotspot to work have unlimited data?
[edit]Also, I haven't rooted my device yet. Has anyone gotten the hotspot to work without rooting?
Thanks.

I have the unlimited data plan and have been messing with this stuff a while too
edit: oh, and I'm rooted. Not sure if that matters, but it might.
I figured out how to kick start the hotspot without multiple reboots.
Set the APN as described and then start the hotspot.
When you get the message that it's setting up the link, go and manually start up WiFi... it will kill the hotspot. Then go back and enable the hotspot while WiFi is on.
It will kill WiFi and start the hotspot without issue.
I only had to do this once.
I've found that if WiFi is enabled before you start the hotspot feature, it works fine.
Whenever WiFi is off, the hotspot has issues starting up.
It's almost like there is a call in the hotspot initiation sequence that wants to kill WiFi before running, but hangs if the WiFi service is already disabled.
Anyway... this worked for me, your mileage may vary.
OK, so now my hotspot is working.
I'm not sure how it happened. I'll list my steps.
I enabled hotspot.
Then, while it was setting up, I turned on wi-fi.
Then I went back to hotspot, and clicked "enable" again.
Hotspot was all, "I can't set up".
Then I went to the APN, and changed the APN type from "default" to blank.
Then I got a message that the hotspot was working.
I think it might have been two "Hotspot enables" running at the same time that let me start up.
I will try diabling and re-enabling the hotspot to see if it works, and also changing the APN type back to "default" to see what happens.
I will let you know.
Best,
~Viper
[Update]
I can now enable/disable hotspot at will and it continues to work. I have set the APN Type back to "default" with no change.
I think the solution is this:
Enable Hotspot
Enable Wifi
Enable Hotspot
Do them quickly, and the first attempt at hotspot setup will fail (expected) but the second hotspot attempt will not attempt to verify, so you can get a hotspot. After that, it will enable any time you want.
Hope this works for other people, and thanks to rjohnstone for the help.

Start the hotspot, then start wifi. Then go back to the "mobile hotspot" tab.
Is the checkbox checked, unchecked, or disabled? For me, the checkbox was unchecked even though in my "process area" on the task bar there was still the hotspot icon. If the box is unchecked, check it. What you'll see (maybe) is that the hotspot fails ... and then suddenly succeeds! (ymmv)

No hitch, Worked perfectly. I screwed up at first and did not save and reboot immediatly so it did not stick on the APN that I made and kept switching back to the default.
Did the entire sequence over following the directions EXACTLY and worked no problem.
Great Work.
Thanks for the easy to follow instructions. I am pretty sure that it worked for me as well. I will have to wait untill I get into an area with 3g service. It won't allow me to start the service while on this goofy edge network. Guess I need stilts for my house...

What I did and it worked right away was I set up the new APN then added the default to type, tried the wifi tether didnt work told me to call 611 then I took the default off saved it and tried tether again and it worked right away... infact it works better this way that the way it comes out of the box. It took forever to connect out of the box and it would mess up too. Thanks everyone for the helpful posts
I didn't even notice this till the other day but the M9 has IP6 enabled by default. Just an idea but they could be related to some of the data problems this phone has had such as some apps not working, etc. Sprint appears to have fixed most of it on the back end however I would still like to disable IP6 anyway. I did give the app Disable IPv6 [root] a try however this just disabled IP6 for the wi-fi connection and not LTE.
I noticed in the PDN internet settings, the IP Version is set to IPv4v6 by default. When I change it to IPv4 only, the phone will no longer connect to LTE at all. It also appears to clear the APN settings out so even if you change it back to the default, I was unable to reconnect to LTE until I did a profile update.
The phone gets a 10/10 score on http://test-ipv6.com/ but again I think this might be causing some of the issues and would just like to disable IP6 all together. You can also verify your IPv6 addy in the 4G settings menu it will show your IPv6 addy. Any ideas how to force this back to ipV4 and still connect to LTE?

It looks like that may be the case unless I need to change another setting. LTE won't get a connection if set to ipv4 like I said. Although my M8 would pick up an ip4 address on LTE so this could be a more recent change. If I set the phone to CDMA it will draw a ip4 address but this phone can't hold a 3G connection and just bounces to 1X all the time.
So I've been searching around and haven't been able to find an answer yet, that actually works. I'm using my G3 on Sprint for a bit while my G6 gets fixed, and it's on rooted ZVC. I apparently live in a Sprint dead zone, so WiFi calling is a must, but MMS doesn't work over WiFi with the default APN setting for MMSC. If I use an app like Textra, I can force the correct URL, but I have been unable to change/add the correct APN to the system in order to use Android Messaging, for example. I can get to the APN settings screen, but no options to add or edit. ##DATA# lets me change the setting for the stock messaging app only. Any suggestions?
