I think 10.1.1.A.1.253 is an earlier version. Mine was bought about 2 months ago and it came with 10.1.1.A.307. You can try Doomlord's root method (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2333566). It works for me, albeit on 307.

All the information can be found in this forum if you look for it...
If you're asking such basic questions, I'd just leave things alone or you're heading for disaster (and risk upsetting your mom at the same time by voiding her warranty & loosing all the Sony DRM keys)

Yay someone commented!
Anything in particular? Obviously got the Unboxing and benchmarks, hoping to get the Sony magnetic dock and I have a S Case for it
mmmmm not sure, I used to have a Note 1 channel showing things others werent showing at the time like PS3 connectivity to run emulators, etc.
Maybe small videos showing people how easy it is to use the PS3 controller with it, some of the small apps that maybe people is not familar with to show what the phone can do before being big!
Car holder, etc.
Maybe others will give more ideas but surely testing new ROMS will give you a nice following for people that prefer to wait before flashing new stuff
Oh a maybe some detailed flashing guide. .....hey you ask for more

I'd love it if you can take a look at the rooting 290 with a locked bootloader thread and make a video detailing the process from recovery up until it is fully functioning - so all the flashing, wiping, etc.
Thanks so much.

I'm talking about the method for a locked bootloader.
Upgrading to a pre rooted .290 Rom whilst maintaining a locked bootloader

I successfully unrooted 532 by simply going into SuperSU and choosing to uninstall through there.
Not sure if the same applies to .290 - but I can't imagine why it wouldn't?

I think that's pretty straightforward - unless you get bored and want an additional video to add to the collection. lol.
I've been following the methods posted in the Locked BL rooted 290 thread - just not familiar with flashing to the extent I'd like which is why I was hoping for a video that goes through the process step-by-step from rooting .532, to installing recovery, to all the flashing and ultimately to having a fully working pre-rooted .290 ROM without any boot loops or booting issues.
You could technically start from the downgrading from .290 part if you wanted to make it a complete overview - but I think most people are able to downgrade from .290 to .532 without a problem - the complications arise when trying to go back to a rooted .290

new to z2

Hi guys I'm new to the z2 from HTC m8 just a question I've been looking around but not sure about something
I don't want to unlock my bootloader as I will loose xreallity ect am I right in saying we cannot root or flash a custom rom ect without unlocking the bootloader
If so I'll stick to stock for now lol
Oh and I've cleaned the ports as they was mucky and use a cotton bud but got the indicator a bit wet what's the best way to turn it white again
Thanks guys btw loving this phone over the m8
Only thing you lose by unlocking bl is warranty, and not in every case, everything else works just fine. But you can also root without unlocking, just take a look, there isnt that many threads in development section...

no, you won't lose it unless you flash. i've unlocked and rooted without the need to backup the ta partition. the only thing i felt the Z2 was missing was unobstructed use of the SD card....so rooting was all i needed. I feel the phone is now perfect.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2775411
Have a breeze through this thread
There may be some useful info in the FAQ section
The xreality loss is weridly device country or brand spesific, very odd so i cant tell much there, any old Fw before 402 you should have no loss if you unlock, i recomend backing up your TA partition before unlocking or rooting via locked bootloader
Edit-battery life for Z2 is amazing, 1d 2hr 38m on battery with 26% left with 3hrs of screen on time, (moderate usage)
I cant attach screenshots for somereason on a already posted post

[Q] Need some info about flashing kernel - locked/unlocked bootloader.

Hey guys,
First of i'm not sure if this is a appropriate thread to ask this, if not i'm sorry and will move/remove it.
Anyways it's been awhile since i've been in the android scene and xda in general, had an iphone for about a year or two and just recently got my Z2:victory: so i'm back but things changed a little and i need a little info if anyone can help,
Basically i'm looking to flash [Xperia Z2] DooMKernel v09 kernel but i read it requires an unlocked bootloader... so basically i need to know if my bootloaders unlocked now that i flashed recovery (check signature) (Does flashing recovery unlock a bootloader?) and can i just flash the zip?
or do i need to still unlock my bootloader even though i have dual recovery and then flash the kernel?
Your bootloader is still locked, what you did is you installed recovery for locked bootloader.
Do not try to flash custom kernel on locked bootloader, you'll soft brick your phone.
What you need in order to flash custom kernel is to unlock bootloader, but firstly you need to back up your TA keys ( click here )
For more info click HERE (about unlocking)
Proceed carefully!
Regards!
hey thanks for the info, that' clears up everything, I did already backup my TA partition so I guess all I need to do is unlock bootloader then flash the kernel! quick question have you flashed your kernel? I know I read the info an features of it but is there any upside to it on a z2? my device is pretty fast an stable as is, just looking for a reason to flash mine, any further advice you can give me? is it worth it?

Well to be honest, I haven't, I didn't find any reason to do so, the stock is doing good for me at the moment.
As for the side affects, or as you say upside downs, there is no any, not at least that I'm aware of, but as far as I saw it's not compatible with every rom, only with stock as with stock based ones, I mean developer does not guarantee for it's stability if it's being used along with any other rom. I have rooted and flashed recoveries only to use existenz rom. I heard for Doomlord's kernel, that it has "fix" for a video recorder mic, you can control it's sensitivity and it's far more battery friendly.
Ah I see! thanks, think I'll stick with the stock kernel for the time being, I don't have any complaints at the moment with it but if I ever do decide to switch to the doom kernel atleast I know what to do first, I've got one last question though sorry, do I need to unlock my bootloader to flash a custom rom? I don't think I do, I'm pretty sure I don't, but just want to make sure, used to have only low end droid devices back in the day when I used to be here, didn't have things like dual recoveries etc so yeah I'm kind of reading an learning as I'm going along, pretty awesome device though sleek and powerful I've only been doing minor adjustments to the stock rom using xposed modules, haven't used a custom rom as yet but I will soon...

Well, yes and no, LB means its for locked bootloaders and UB means for unlocked bootloaders, search for those to two words when you find the rom which you can flash.
Some roms require unlocking, some do not. All stock based roms usually dont require, but as I told you, it will be stated in Rom's thread name or in OP.
Regards!
Ah! I'll be sure to look out for those, thanks for the valuable info, think that's all I needed to find out. I should be ok from here on out

Rooting Lollipop & Marshmallow without losing DRM

If anyone has problems and cannot root Lollipop or Marshmallow then I can help. Please ask here.
Oh, is achieving root possible now without unlocking the bootloader? If it's true, that's nice to hear.
I've already lost my DRM stuff, but please enlighten us.

If you do have a way please post a tutorial here. That's the point of an open community like XDA. If you don't (or not willing to post), I don't see the point of this thread.
Seems like a placeholder thread to me. And as mentioned by @Stevethegreat pointless

3 negative comments in answer to my post; is this what I get when I openly offer help?
I have my DRM backed up as 1.ta and 2.ta. All I have to do is re-lock the bootloader and the DRM partitions will be active again.
I'll take my offer of help elsewhere; end of thread for me.
Thanks

Well, I don't think the comments in the thread neither have malicious intent nor being rude. Just that, if you have a way to back up the TA partition and don't mind helping, why not post a tutorial in the thread so as to help out as many people as possible. I mean this is XDA right? We should help each other as a community!
And, in the same boat as jelbo, with my TA partition already wiped, so not much for me too.
Cheers!
They wasn't meant to be rude I just think that there are other threads where this could have been incorporated eg http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=3343394
The issue is forums get harder to navigate when there is clutter and since I don't see many moderator activity in newer Sony threads well ya'know
Apologies if my post was offensive I seem to be p**sing many people off here atm

I think this guy next Luca todesco who post photoshopped screenshot as a prove of getting jailbreak but of course without any sharing,.
Guys, do not get fooled by this old trick. In order to backup drm keys, you need to hack dm verity, and Sony ric what is the same hard as getting jailbreak for IOS...
Edit 1, very interesting, this genius was be able to hack almost unbreakable system, but he can't figure out on how to unlock the tablet. Bravo...:good:

Indeed, even no screenshot. What I really meant with Luca todesco is that he is pseudo-hacker who tells he is able to hack any version of highly secure ios system by wasting a couple of hours of his time whereas pangu and taig and some other teams can't make it for months.
And the same man is here. Who asserts he got backuped original drm keys on one bare word...
It seems I've backed-up my TA but cannot use it with a custom ROM. I can re-install a stock ROM and then re-install the TA, apparently. I did back-up the TA before I unlocked the bootloader though. Perhaps some of/all of you know how to do this. Sorry for the confusion if there was any.

Does not installing a stock ROM put the TA partition back?
Just tried re-locking the bootloader and replacing the TA on the rooted machine; soft-brick comes to mind! So, I've backed up the TA before rooting but cannot use the TA on a rooted machine. Wonderful! Maybe you all\some of you knew that already. I'll keep my mouth shut in future.

From what I understand, unlocking the bootloader wipes the TA partition with no way of you restoring it unless you have some way to back it up. I mentioned rooting without unlocking the bootloader in the first comment was because I had the impression that backing up the TA partition requires root, so maybe I was wrong.
Installing a stock ROM doesn't put the TA partition back, again from my limited understanding from reading through some of the threads, so once you unlocked the bootloader, it's gone forever, even if you install a fresh stock ROM.
It seems that I've unlocked the bootloader and backed-up the TA at the same time, using Flashtool. Root wasn't got because I could not flash the custom kernel because it needed an unlocked bootloader. So, I've got the TA backed-up from the original stock ROM but cannot re-install it unless I've got a stock ROM installed.
