whats the best way of backing up game files? - Xiaomi Poco F1 Questions & Answers

hello everyone,
i know the easiest way is to download apk/obb files and save it to pc or external storage but is there another sure efficient way to backup game files instead of redownloding them every time we flash a new rom?

If you do as you say, and save the apk and obb file onto external storage (like the micro sd card slot you have built-in) you could just copy the obb files back to the internal storage and use something like titanium backup (also backed up to the sd-card) to restore the apk with all your saves on the ROM.
Perhaps the app "Migrate" from BaltiApps in the play store could do it in one go?

Root. Then install titanium back up pro..
I, too, had that kind of game.
SF IV Ce.. bought the game.. then told me to download additional 2.5gb of file data.. or so.
Thought there was an obb or some sort of data.. but there was none. Instead.. there is .. if you use root explorer then browse to data/data/..
So whenever i flashed a new rom. I need to re download the whole 2.5 gb data. And thats when i thought if it can be backed up by the TB... AND rest my case.. it worked.. fast and easy..
---------- Post added at 08:39 PM ---------- Previous post was at 08:37 PM ----------
And when you're using TB PRO.
THERE'S an option to just restore all apps and its data at once. Sit back and wait for it to.finish.. just make sure that what you're about to restore are all installed files only and not the data of your system files..
Oh.. and.for data with the likes of NFS MW & REAL RACING 3. where there could be thousand files that are about 20-300Kb file sizes.. that could take about an hour if you copy paste it to another storage. So.to make it easier to copy/paste... I highly suggest you zip the whole nfs folder or even rear racing 3 data foler. Then copy the zipped file somewhere else.. its easier to.copy a single 2 or 3 gb data file than copying thousands of 300kb data files.. ehehehehe.. just unzip.it again in android / data folder when you're done restoring your rom

Check out Migrate. It's free and works through twrp. I haven't tried it myself for games, but it works flawlessly for normal apps, so if your game is not using obb, I'd think Migrate would work just fine.

[Q] quick question about app back up please

Hey good people, I had Hot Pursuit running in my device with all its 350 or so MB that you have to download when installing it . I then was going to install a new ROM and for that did both a cwm and titanium backup. Restored all the apps and all it's good except for the fact that now when I tap onto the game it asks to download the whole 350mb again. Shouldn't I be able to restore the whole thing without having to download it again ? Thanks
Many games install aditional files directly into the SD Card. Titanium Backup does the backup of the app itself, not the files on the SD Card asociated to the app.
If you don't delete the internal memory you shouldn't have problems with this, since its usually on /sdcard/Gameloft/... directory. If you need to delete the internal memory, then copy the /sdcard/Gameloft directory to your SD to save the app install files.

Thanks mate, am still new to Android. I did wipe all the system and data to install the new rom, so will probably have to download the files again, but next time will know what to do. Thanks again.
Wiping system and data doesn't delete the game data saved on the SD card. Only formatting SD card will delete the game data. Check in 'my files' to see if its still there on your SD card under gameloft. Sometimes when you delete the app it needs to re-download only a few mbs, not all.

Titanium Backup

Hi!
When I backup app + data with Titanium backup, it doesn't seem to backup the entire data for the app.
For example, I have installed NFS Hot pursuit and Max Payne mobile and downloaded the game data which is around 600 MB and 1.3 GB respectively. Now when I backup these apps with Titanium Backup (Batch > App+Data backup), the backup size in the Titanium backup folder is only around 50 - 60 Mb.
How do I get Titanium backup to to backup the game and entire game data, so that in case I restore the game after wiping the phone, I don't have to re-download the entire game data.
Please help.

Questions belong to Q&A.
The game data is already on the SD card. This 50MB backup is the apk + some or no files. The rest is on /sdcard/Android/data.

My apologies for not posting the question in Q&A section.
So, do I need to manually copy the game data stored in /sdcard/Android/data for future restoration. Is is not possible to get this backup done through Titanium backup or any other backup application?
I think that paid version of TB supports backuping of all application data, even from SD card.
I am using Titanium Backup Pro.

the data its backing up is cache not the downloaded game data itself and all the downloaded files, only game save data and etc data/data/com.yourgamehere
and to not delete the downloaded data you can pull the downloaded data which is probably in android/data/com.yourgamehere
or gameloft/games/yourgamehere

Gameloft games has a regular content and a downloadable content,
the downloadable content isn't backed up so you need to pull if from the folder which i stated above
I have 8 GB of map data placed on my external SC card related to several Navigators ... happy that Titanium Backup do NOT include this kind of data.
Once a while I backup my entire external SDcard.
exactly. titanium backup is not supposed to backup that amount of data because it is pointless.
it copies your apps and data from the /data/ partition to the /sdcard partition, but games by gameloft and ea, as well as navigation data is already on the sdcard, no need to have it there twice.
whenever you make a factory reset, you usually format /data/ only and not the sd card (or your titanium backup would be gone as well), so there is really no point to it.

You can just go into settings, there's a "Backup External Data" option, just activate it, and right below set the maximum size of the backup date, I believe the default limit is 32Mb, so if you want Max Payne or so you just need to increase that limit to 1.5Gb or something. There's no need for extra apps or whatever, it's just a setting.
Thanks everyone for resolving my query....
Cheers!!

Does this actually work? Whenever i flash a new ROM, i always erase all of the sdcard as well in order to be sure i dont have anything i dont need there. I keep my TB backup in the extSd and also the .apk of TB there. Can i really backup downloaded data of my games? E.g. i have almost 4 GB of downloaded data from games and i would like to keep it. I've set the option with the external data to "always on" im making a backup right not. It indeed takes some time to finish it and that makes me happy. Lets hope it ll work.

Try it and you will know if works
I made the mistake of relying upon Titanium Backup when I was trying to restore games I accidentally deleted while setting up Directory Bind (saw that the original files were still there in file explorer and deleted them, they were of course the illusion of the original files that Directory Bind spoofs the system with, Doh!). It's always AFTER you lose files that you realise the steps you should have taken to back them up. In future I'll just do a full manual backup as well! Such is life!
Recuva file recovery probably not much help for this one.
UPDATE: Recuva recovered all deleted game data from the SD card! Get in!
It used to work flawlessly for me. Recently it has not worked for me at all.
EDIT: And I figured out why! A lot of games have started to keep their external data in encrypted binary blobs as *.obb files located in folders under sdcard/Android/obb/ and Titanium does not currently seem to look for these. I've submitted an enhancement request for this.

I have experienced issues with some games like Ski Safari, which I am unable to export to third party devices, probably the savegame is encrypted and only works in the device where it was generated.
Also, consider that some games like GTA or Asphalt store a lot of MB or even GB in the obb folder.

How to backup obb files with Titanium Backup?
Hello, I have Titanium Backup PRO and I usually back up entire applications including all external data, especially big games, so if I need to restore, would not need to download a lot of data again.
However, I have had problems with some games like Asphalt 7 and Modern Combat 3. Even if the first has 1.16 GB of data and the second 1.35 GB installed, when I backup them the size of it is less than 100mb. TB is already configured to backup all external data and no size limitation. I noticed that unlike the other games, these that are not doing the full backup saves their large package of data as a Obb file.
Therefore, If possible, I would like to know how to do a full backup of these games including all external data (especially Obb ) with Titanium Backup...
Thanks!

Probable solution
First of all: what version of English are you using?
If I understood these machine translated lines of text, you want to move application (eg. savegames) data between devices.
Try Titanium Backup - tell it to backup the application you wish to transfer data from. copy the so created backup files (package name + timestamp + gz/bzip2 extension) to a location like SD card (or even better to a cloud service like DropBox or GoogleDrive).
Install Titanium Backup on target device, configure it properly (set up the DropBox etc.) and then tell the Titanium Backup to restore the copied data from the archive (app or data only, as you wish). And there you go :good:.

I totally agree
But If you're talking about moving the data of the games to the external sd card, try this
Install games on your Ext_Sd Card

Internal memory almost full, no idea why

Hi, I have a s3 international version, rooted and cm11 on it. My internal memory is almost full and I can't seem to move apps to external sd card. Also, a few months ago I had 5 gigs of space left, now 900mb... Did a complete whipe and started all over again, but still 900mb free memory. Is there a way I can delete everything, maybe go back to stock an start all over?
Thanks
Camera, or game data files, or changing rom to rom
1.When you switch from rom to rom( like 4.1.2 to 4.2.2) it leaves the previous rom's files in an folder named '0'..
2. when you may put some pirated games, after wipe.. the folder( data files) still exist
3. well, have you been recording a lot of videos or took a lot of pics??
I did have a few '0' folders, but I deleted them al.
Could be a few app folder, but definitely not 4gigs.and I have maybe 50 photos on it and no films.
Would it be bad if I deleted everything on the internal sd?
I also have a folder storage/emulated/0 and storage/emulated/legacy. In both are the same files. Can I delete 1 of the 2 entirely?
Thanks for the fast reply btw

Use any file explorer (ES file explorer has one) which has storage space analysis tools.
That'll help you to locate the folders which are using most of the space.

Installing very large games

I rooted my phone yesterday and installed foldermount so i can store large games on SD card. It's working fine with apps less than 500mb because i only have 500mb available in SD card. First I have to download the big games into internal, then move them to Sd card using foldermount to free up space in internal memory.
However, i cannot do so with very large games like Asphalt 8 because i don't have 1.5 gb free space in the first place. Please give me some advice.
Download asphalt 8 data, apk from sites like http://onhax.net/asphalt-8-airborne-apk or something else(you can get many sites by searching in google)
then proceed same way you did before..

In my opinion Link2SD is the best app to solve the problem of low internal memory, it works great for me. Take a high speed class SD card and create two partitions (FAT32 and EXT4) using Minitool Partition WIzard or Gparted if you use Linux. And then download and install Link2SD from PlayStore. Run the app and link everything to SDCARD (ext4 partition). I advice you to buy the plus version because it allows to link the internal data too, so more free memory.
About the installation of large games like Asphalt. Well, Link2Sd allows to link the game (or any app) automatically on SdCard once you finished to install it from PlayStore. Just go on the settings and select "auto link".
There's a good video on youtube on how to use the app. Just search: "How to use link2sd to move apps to 2nd partition(SD card)"
Of course other videos are great too, but this is one of the best imho

Thanks for the reply. Thing is, i can't install asphalt 8 from play store in the first place because it needs 1.4 Gb and i only have 500mb free internal memory. I need a way to download it directly to the linked folder in SD card.
I also tried downloading apk and obb, but still I have to first copy the large obb in internal memory, then link it to SD card, which is not possible due to low internal memory.
Install xposed and xinternalSD, he download data/obb automatically to the sd, and use Link2SD to link all applications. I use these methods, and I have 1.37 GB free memory. but I have apps 2,8GB.

Btw you're right, because at this point it's even impossible to download the game from PlayStore. Well, I think the only way is to remove all the bloatwares and apps you don't use. And through Link2SD link all the installed apps you can to SD. Once you have more free space and you reached about 1.5gb try to install the game (and link it to sd). You can also consider to try a custom rom if you are not using it, generally speaking it has more free space than stock rom.

I uninstalled some pre-installed apps, still I didn't have enough space. So, i dug around the internet some more and finally found the solution!
You can actually use foldermount to install large obb files DIRECTLY INTO SD CARD instead of just moving them from internal to SD card. Link2SD only allows us to move from internal to SD, but foldermount did the trick!
However, Link2SD allows me to transfer Apk, Dex, Lib and internal files as well, so I guess I'm keeping them both! Thanks again for recommending Link2Sd for me.
I haven't tested with Asphalt 8 yet, but it works with NFS Most Wanted, wich is over 2GB in size.

Yeah FolderMount is good too. It depends on what we have to do. I'm currently using Link2sd because it works great for me but other solutions (like the one proposed by brundark) are always welcome. By the way I'm glad you solved the issue
For asphalt 8 download the game from pc or on ur friends or family member's phone..who have more inbuilt memory..then transfer the obb & apk to ur sd card..n install apk n place the obb accordingly. will work like charm.
n regarding how to run obb files from sd card..just download "obb to sd " from xposed.. app in KB size.. so u dont have to install folder mouny n do evetything manually..this module does everything on its own.. i play big Gameloft n EA games easily.

Thanks for the help, but I'm sticking with foldermount now, since size isn't my biggest issue. I'm also new to these stuff, so I'll save Xposed for later. I don't really feel like trying everything at once, and theres so many things to try out there!(I haven't even flashed a custom rom yet)
