Internal memory almost full, no idea why - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi, I have a s3 international version, rooted and cm11 on it. My internal memory is almost full and I can't seem to move apps to external sd card. Also, a few months ago I had 5 gigs of space left, now 900mb... Did a complete whipe and started all over again, but still 900mb free memory. Is there a way I can delete everything, maybe go back to stock an start all over?
Thanks

Camera, or game data files, or changing rom to rom
1.When you switch from rom to rom( like 4.1.2 to 4.2.2) it leaves the previous rom's files in an folder named '0'..
2. when you may put some pirated games, after wipe.. the folder( data files) still exist
3. well, have you been recording a lot of videos or took a lot of pics??

I did have a few '0' folders, but I deleted them al.
Could be a few app folder, but definitely not 4gigs.and I have maybe 50 photos on it and no films.
Would it be bad if I deleted everything on the internal sd?
I also have a folder storage/emulated/0 and storage/emulated/legacy. In both are the same files. Can I delete 1 of the 2 entirely?
Thanks for the fast reply btw

To be on your place I would install Root Manager from G.Play and carefully looked inside. In acc to result i would be acting next step. And probably you will find another 0 folder. ( personal experience)

Use any file explorer (ES file explorer has one) which has storage space analysis tools.
That'll help you to locate the folders which are using most of the space.

Recover lost internal storage space

Before turning on usb connect I have about 25MB of internal storage space. Somehow the phone hang when turning on the usb connect and I have to reboot it. After the reboot I lost around 8MB of internal storage space .
I have look through the files using root explorer and did not come across any unusual big files or names.
Is there a program that help to recover the lost space or how can I go about to recover the lost space. I have tried titanium backup dalvik-cache cleaning but failed to recover any space.
Can I delete the log file from the internal storage /data/log directory (see attachment).

Using stock ROM Froyo and the phone is rooted.
I think the log files in /data/log directory are text files. I have deleted files which are more than 2 MB and I got back 86MB of space. The phone now seems to response better and has not encounter any issue yet. Why are there so many log files in the first place, using up precious space. I am tempted to delete all the log files. Is it a good idea.

Hey!
You can delete log files, BUT SOMETIMES they are useful. Of course if you DONT know how to use log files your self, then you can delete them, but some apps(maybe most of them) great them again(log files, I mean).
And if you want some more space, you can move you APPS to SD, with a2sd or link2sd from MARKET. Of course phone acts better, if it hase more SPACE to manage.
CHEERS!
wow that's curious, my log files aren't bigger than 300k, and have only 5 files. :S

Thanks.
Except for those that must be installed to internal ROM, all my apps are installed in SD card. Now I can move all the log files to SD card and delete from the internal ROM.

sdcard not freeing up space after app removal

Yesterday I downloaded NOVA 3 for my S2 - a process which took about 8 hrs !
After playing the game I found it wasnt for me so I deleted the app.
However the sdcard has not 'freed up' the 1.8G of data space. I`ve rescanned the card, checked all files I can think of on both internal & ext sd cards but cant find an appropriate file, the gameloft folder just has data for another game. I read somewhere about the LOST+FOUND file in /system but this is empty too. anyone come across this before ?

App removal did nothing to game's cache, which is stored on your SD Card. It chould be in Android folder on your internal memory. Just search for "nova".
hi. I cant find any file like this. Ive ran a search from root and its pulled up nothing for NOVA. When you say internal memory - do you mean at root level or the internal sdcard ?

Sorry. I was being thick. I've found this folder but the only relevant files I can see relate to 2 other gameloft games I have installed, could the data be elsewhere or is it a different type of error perhaps ?
solved !
Found it... the data was in external_SD/android/data..and the file name didn't show Nova but n3. Thanks to all.

[Q] Internal Storage I/O Problem on SGSII

My S2 has just got a really big problem for 2 days. I can access the internal storage (which is 11Gb) and see or copy all the files to my laptop's HDD. But the problem is that I can't edit any of those files (by using apps in the phone).
When I tried to delete some files, it told me those files is deleted but they're still there, unchanged. When I tried to create a new folder, it said "Creation Failed". The same things just happened on every file manager apps I've ever used. :crying:
Moreover, I can't access gallery now, it said "Not enough space. Delete unnecessary items..." although I have 6 free Gb in my internal storage.
I'm pretty frustrated now. Any ideas would be highly appreciated
There is really no helps
Rooted?
Rom?
Maybe install/flash again

[Q] Storage space running out

I just rooted with Casual and installed MeanBean rom. I am completely new and with a lot of reading and great information that I found here I managed not to brick my Note2. After all this and the latest MeanBean update I am getting a storage space notification stating I do not have enough storage space on my internal 16gb drive. Miscellaneous files is consuming most with 14.20 gb, of that S Note- 23.96 gb and .All Share Play-22.79 gb .Are those files that big or do I have multiple versions somehow installed. I am not sure what direction to go? I have read about Directory Bind but unsure if that will conflict with Mean Bean, which is by the way is great. Thanks for your time and advice.
There is not a lot of space free on internal storage. A nandroid backup, and a couple of ROMs and you can be running out of space. If you don't have one get an SdCard and use that backups, download, media files etc.
Note 2 - Nexus 7 - Charge - Player 5.0 - Fascinate

Read twice, flash once

I use Solid Explorer its a great File Manager and has a duel screen so I can easily move files from internal to external. Costs a few bucks but well worth it for me.
Root Explorer has worked great for me for years.

You might try downloading the app called DiskUsage from the playstore. It is free and it will show you exactly what is using your internal space even if they are files you or some app has inadvertantly hidden. I found that I had two copies of the data for SE's chaos rings on mine after a crack flash bender, and I also found a lot of podcast files that were supposed to have been automatically deleted by the app but got left behind. All in all about 1.5 gb of junk that showed up as misc. files on mine. If you play any of the bigger games out there, you may still run into issues.

I've been using disk/file analyzers as well to make sure I'm not filling up internal storage. It's a great tool rather than clicking in and out of folders.
You can also manage files on your device while connected to your computer.
Besides Root Explorer, I'll add a vote for ES File Manager.

Rom Toolbox Pro has an option to backup all your backups to several different cloud services. I'm gonna have to resort to using the cloud soon, unfortunately.

Take out your ext-sdcard. reboot phone and in esfile explorer set root permissions for r/w to w. Click the menu button (hard button) and select sd card analyst. This will let file explorer go all the way thru root and find out what file is causing the size issue and tell you where it is. Voila. Hope this helps.
It was twrp using over 4gb. I deleted it. I keep my backups on ext SD anyways. At least now I do.

Crap. P.S. If you make backups , they are usually 3.8gb. (sorry, forgot to mention that.) Guess i should add that to the FAQ's.
It was a stock ROM backup from when I first rooted. I have a newer backup of it on ext SD
