Firmware: G973FXXU1ASD5
Quickest way to download is to install this program:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-tab-s/general/tool-samfirm-samsung-firmware-t2988647
Install Samfirm - the latest one you can still download - it still works great.
Then put in model - mine is SM-G973F and put in the Switzerland code which is AUT. Tick 'auto' and then 'Check Update' and then download.
Install via Odin.
How's the new dedicated night mode? Anything worth being enthusiastic about ?
Screen shot of changlog please.
anyone try this? i have already downloaded the firmware from sammobile, but dreading wiping, rerooting and installing everything back.

Yep. Tried it from APKmobile but it doesn't complete the install. It will have to wait I guess but I heard the update was underwhelming so at least GCam works great as a backup...

Some quick pictures taken first with the camera set to Auto and scene optimiser on then in night mode. The image with the tree is in very dark condition. Flash off, obviously. It's a bit nippy outside and I was in shorts & t-shirt so there is no way I was steady taking the pictures btw.

So I've installed GCam with Nightsight and then used Samsung's night mode and then another image manually adjusting the ISO & Shutter speed
GCam with nightsight
Samsung night mode
Samsung stock camera in Pro mode with manual ISO & shutter speed
The camera hardware is very capable and Samsung isn't getting the best out of it. They need to put in a lot more work into night mode.
What I want to see in this update is not so much the night mode but the level of detail on daylight photos! Samsung seems to blur the photos taken and they loose substantial levels of detail! For example I take a photo of my carpet with Gcam and I can see the details of the carpets material but with samsungs camera app seems like so much blurred!!!! On the image I upload you can see magnified a part of my carpet. On the left side is the samsung camera app and on the right its the gcam. It is clear that the level of detail on the gcam is by far superior to the samsung camera app! Samsung seems to remove details from the photos and I really cant understand WHY!!!!

I dont think that is a Problem had that clicking to on other phones its the lens that focuses, clicking 2 times when you aktivate the camera and when you switch
to Video mode,
The problem with the Cam for me is the real bad Focus, its almost imposible to scan barcodes etc. with google googles , etc..
im on newst Cam Firmware !
got 2 with this camera noise and 3 without.
no clue if it's okay ? why different... other lenses ?

Did you update through Samsung apps on your phone?
If not, you might have installed a wrong version that doesn't match up with the cam hardware in your phone.
I'm not sure if this a valid reason, but there are some different cams out there which need different firmware versions

this is mostly because there are at least 3 different cam manufacturers, you can see this clearly because of their different firmware versions (which is of course vendor specific)!

ya, that clicking is part of your problem, it is sitting to far out and can't go back. It shouldn't smack the housing and make clicking noises. I have this issue to, might send it it to be fixed or wait for replacement parts to become available.
Same problem but worst
Me and a buddy of mine both bought the 9100 together of the same shlef. Mine does the clicking sound and his doesn't. But my problem is worst here because it seems that no photo outside of 20cm range comes out in focus.
I am just unable to take a decent photo of anything further than this.
Could a FW fix solve this? how do i know what is my cam mode is? and which FW belongs to it?
LT
I also have issue with the camera: the auto focus is not working at all.
I can't tell if it's after flashing litening 1.2 or if it has always been the case...
I have applyed the samsung camera firmware upgrade.
hmmm...i think when designgears says the clickcklick sound of the camera is a defect, then it is one
i can't really belive in this vendor specific camera moduls for a noise reason... that whould be just to much quaility difference if samsung is doing that ?!

I and 4 of my friends have the phone One with litening Rom1.2 the others all have stock one of them made yesterday the firmware update the other 2 not
and we all have the clicking sound !!
can it be that so many devices have this defective cam,
and non of us coud get a good focus on close distances 10 - 15 cm
I just caled samsung support Austria and they sayd the clicking is normal !
I also have the clicking from the beginning and i havent experienced any Problems. Neither with Barcodes nor with photos. But to be sure someone should test the exact same scenes with 2 devices and post the results.
I dont really remember but i think the clicking just started after the Camera Firmware Update.
I have clicking with camera360 app and no clicking with standard camera .....
Focusses perfect down to 10 cm even when then going to max zoom

how can i test if it is focusing good ? which mode and settings ? thx
Clicking sound; no problems.
It looks like the clicking is a symptom
It looks like the clicking is a symptom, and what I think it means is that the lens is not sitting in its right position.
I assume that the further the lens sits from its intended position, the worst the focus will be.
All in all, if the lens sits pretty close to its intended position then the photos will come out good even though you hear clicking.
On the other hand, other people might be less lucky and the lens position will be totally off and so will not be able to take decent photos at all...
This is of course my theorem, not my knowledgeable absolute...
It's funny how the clicking of the camera is ALWAYS an issue with every new phone for some people. Many phones have it (not only the SGS2) and it's normal. Some people might have problems with the camera and the focus, but it has nothing to do with the clicking sound. It's just the camera's initialization.
Very recently I have been getting poor quality pictures. They look just OK. The are not really sharp and clear. Here are some samples. Any ideas? I see the dimensions are still 3264x1840 but the file sizes are also under 1MB in size. My settings haven't change and I haven't installed anything recently. I do not have any camera or picture add-on application installed either. I've uploaded the originals here: http://imgur.com/a/7Q3RS

Silly question, but have you checked the lens cover for dirt or misting up internally? If the camera is not focusing correctly then the image file size would reflect this as it is not capturing any details, even tho the resolution is set high. If your phone has for example been in na air conditioned area for a long time, then gets thrown into extreme heat you may get misting internally until the phone warms up.

Not at all a silly question, but I cleaned the lens cover profusely - to no avail. There are no scratches on the cover - it looks pristine - as the phone is not that old. I live in Abu Dhabi, and do have that issue with the heat and air conditioning. But it hasn't been that hot yet (remarkably). it even occurs indoors...
Also congratulations on joining XDA!

Crumbs, do you know when this started? Was it after such a condition with the cold/hot environment, is your camera permanently taking photos like this and does the image in the view finder (screen) before you take the shot look out of focus too???
Easy to state, but you may want to try a soft reset of the phone in case the software is playing up.
Thank you.

me too the same thing happened, but I realized that it was after I updated the firmware 1.30 to 1.35. All the photos I take are like the ones you are taking. I also have no idea how to change it, because I reset the device, already changed my rom already updated to firmware 1.40 and nothing worked.
I even went back to the factory mode with a RRU and nothing!
If anyone can help us ... would be great! : Confuso:

Looking around the web there does seem to be a few posts about this issue, so here are a few things to try:
Force close the camera app - clear cache/data,
Try touching the screen while in the camera to see if it will auto-focus/make the focus sound - Does it focus? Or focus and then looses it?
Check for a firmware update for the camera,
See if you can uninstall any firmware updates on the camera to see if that caused the issue,
Finally - From what I have read it is most likely to be a hardware fault - return the unit.

I've done all this and not solved. I do not think it's hardware because this only happened after you upgrade the firmware, I believe there must be some source code that would solve it.

Entirely possible, not sure if the OP updated his firmware. But if the firmware has broken it then you have a right to send it back for repair. After all, if they do not get any reports back of camera issues it is unlikely they will rush out a fix.

I live in Brazil and here there is no HTC store. I bought this device in the U.S. and I can not eviar the device there. So I'm trying to solve here, asking for help from our colleagues who are hackers cell.
Ah, that would make things rather difficult then. :/
I am thinking this is a hardware issue as well. My camera version is 4.0.522443. I remember updating the camera as soon as the update came out, sometime in January I think. It has been taking great photos since about a week ago. I haven’t installed anything new – just an update for ES File Explorer, which I uninstalled but it hasn’t made any difference in the quality of the pictures.
I may have to bite the bullet and send it in for repair.

If u have this smudged or blurred issue with your camera my config won't help.
Best factory reset your phone but I doubt that will help either.
To copy over the media_profile you need root access first by unlocking your bootloader and installing super user rights, then just use copy over with a root enabled file browser like root explorer and reboot.

I'm not sure tbh, I've not had that problem. But if reset of camera app & cache or phone reset don't fix it, I'd suggest you consider a replacement since you still have warranty.
Make sure you backup important data before any reset.

So now that I am awake I did a little bit more digging.
Apparently what I am seeing is not what I thought...
I think...
It appears that they added a ring around the cutout now but it only appears when you are on the unlock screen and while you have facial recognition turned on for unlock.
No clue if this was present before. But still cool either way because that means that they have it working and can add it for notifications.
