My poco f1 is not getting detected in pc and there is no option for choosing transfer files or mtp or charging only.
I earlier also noticed that the fast charging symbol had also stopped showing. I tried usb debugging but to no avail.
Please help the phone is like a month old.
Did you try changing the cable or using a different port?

You didn't say whether file transfer was working earlier. If it was and the above suggestion doesn't work, re-install the drivers.

I did reinstall the drivers and it worked... but only for a short time. what happens is the file explorer window keeps getting closed automatically and i hear the beep sound( the one windows make when a device is connected) continuously for 3-5 seconds and then it stops.
Thought when i tried for the third time it worked and i was able to send a 1 GB file without any errors but i think the time taken was a bit much.
At this point I am quit confused whether its the ports problem or the cables because i also tried connecting in my laptop which also didn't detect my phone.
Should i go the mi care and get the port replaced?

And i tried connecting again but now again it won't connect again...
so basically i back to square 1.
edit: The phone got detected once i tries moving files which was fine till i kind of used the phone for whats app while transfer was still in process and the phone got disconnected automatically(windows explorer closed) though there wasn't any tension in the cable and the usb c port.
edit2: Yeah ok so I am plugging in and out a few times. it got detected and sometimes it doesn't. So I decided to let it be till you guys reply and i put the phone on charging and what i SEE that the quick charging symbol is now showing out of nowhere I didn't do anything in the phone, so how come suddenly the quick charge symbol is coming now?
I think there is problem with the port. what do you say?

There is no Quick Charge through the USB ports. USB 3.0 port maximum power output is 900mAh. So I'm not sure how does the QQC symbol appearing if connected through USB. Also, you may need to disable the automatic installation of the drivers in Windows. Could be that the windows are trying to install some "incompatible" drivers. Just guessing. Had such a situation many times with some USB devices. In any case, if you have the warranty, you can always check up the phone. It could be the port also.

If there is a clash between drivers, unless you uninstall the problematic ones, the correct ones will not work. Don't worry, all the drivers will be automatically installed again as and when you connect various devices. Only those drivers which you manually installed will have to installed by you again.

Howdy,
I have a 'jasjam' and am presently running WM6 Black. I decided today that I would upgrade to the new HTC ROM but almost every time I connect my phone to the PC here (Win XP) I get 'USB Device Not Recognized' on the occasion it does work, once the phone goes into the boatload when I try to upgrade (Hard SPL) I get 'A device attached to the computer has malfunctioned.' or something along those lines.
Any help here would be greatly appreciated.
Ben.
Bump...
The phone seems to initially recognized (XP installs driver for HTC USB Sync), but after a little while the charge light will turn off and the phone will not be seen. After reconnecting it it becomes an 'Unknown USB device' again.
I'm running Schap's 3.54c.
Hopefully someone's encountered this problem before.
Ben.
Managed to upgrade with SD card, which indicently I felt was rather an improved process over upgrading via USB.
In any case I'm still having no luck getting the USB connection to function even now with the new HTC rom.
I've tried various things including cycling 'advanted networking features' under the USB connection properties (I saw this mentioned in another thread).
Again, any help would be appreciated.
Ben.

That's a good idea, that's worked before for me also.
Another option, if you can find the phone under 'Device Manager' on your PC, is to remove it.
And then when you plug your phone back in to your PC it recognizes 'New Hardware' and reinstalls it.
Sometimes that works.
It's happening also for me from time to time.
- A restart of both machines sometimes helps.
- good usb cable is needed (I had a retractable and it was almost never syncing).
- reinstall activesync + delete partenrship on both tel & pc is the last thing you could try...
Still it happens to me sometimes.
PS1: I was almost never able to sync via usb cable when not connected to the Company Lan.
PS2: I found a Mobile Checkpoint VPN client was also "disturbing".

Sounds like your phone USB port may be defective. It is possible you have pushed it in a wee bit when plugging the cable in one time through the m/f not being aligned just right, and now the male connector on the cable isn't going in far enough. Either that or hardware issue. Tried a different USB cable? I use an old BB cable at work without problems. Any micro USB cable should work to see if you have a cable problem.

Yeah, I'm having the same problem with my phone. When I reset the phone, it'll connect to the PC but as soon as the phone updates from my Google account, the phone won't connect to the PC anymore. I tried replacing the phone and same thing. There's something with my Google account. I tried checking all syncing settings and even turned off all syncing. Nothing.
That is such a pain in the ass. If you find a solution please tell me.

It doesn't work in Ubuntu as well as Windows btw

If so, make sure you have it in Camera mode instead of MTP.
If it works, the way I got it to recognize the phone was when my computer failed installing the drivers, I set it to locate the recommended drivers from the internet automatically. I'm on Win7 32 bit as well.

I just got a brand new Dell XPS 15" and whenever i plug my M8 (Root, Venom ROM), it keeps disconnecting from the pc as if someone is pressing a button to connect/disconnect. The windows file explorer shows the device and then the device is gone, it shows and then gone ...

Check windows device drivers when phone is plugged in and make sure no items show up as nonworking related to HTC phone (yellow exclamation points). Make sure that in the HTC notification bar, after its been plugged in that you have an option to "authorize" HTC phone to communicate with computer. Check you USB connection mode on HTC device while plugged into computer - try toggling the setting back and forth. Lastly uninstall HTC drivers while plugged in to computer and reboot computer and let it install drivers.
Hopefully, following those steps in order, at one point you have have a successful connection.
If it still fails definetly try a different cable. Not all cables are the same, what works for one device, especially an older cable may not have the proper wiring for the HTC one - suggest using the cable that comes with the HTC one, if available.

not a pc problem.. Tried on various laptops.. Other phones connect through the same usb cable without any problem.
so definitely a problem in phone.

I'm not sure how the problem is "definitely" a M8 phone problem with the data points you supplied. One thing I see is the mention of same USB cable works with other phones - but as previously pointed out in this thread, not all cables are the same, and what works on one phone, may not work on another

It is not a phone problem. This has been talked about over and over in the forums. It is a Win 8 problem. Everything works fine if you use a Win 7 machine, or as I have found out the Win 10 Tech Preview works too. I have a spare laptop here with that installed and guess what, no problems. The main machine I am using now is Win 8.1 and I can't do jack with HTC. Other phones are fine, but this one always is a problem so I use the spare laptop.
Many of the issues on win 8.x boils down to Microsoft's own USB 3.0 drivers that are installed as compared to Intel's drivers. I've replaced my ms drivers with Intel drivers for my chip set a year ago and never had a problem on my USB 3.0 only laptop since that time. Newer chipsets don't have this problem and the chipsets that do are difficult to install - but worth it if you do a lot of phone/adb tinkering like us folks here on XDA.

Is your computer USB 3.0 only? If so is it an Intel chipset for USB drivers? You can check in device manager. If Intel USB chipset are the drivers provided by Intel or Microsoft (look at properties for the drivers to tell).

Hey @tommy_riley, i tried whatever you suggested.
1. The device manager does show a usb android phone with exclamation sign. But it disapears right away (since the phone constantly switch and disconnect). See attached screen shot
2. I don't see any "authroize" option in htc notification bar neither i could change the htc usb mode option. I don't know where that option is in HTC One M8. Tried searching but didn't help
3. I don't have HTC Drivers installed since i just did pc-restore. so its a fresh copy of windows.
Looks like you need the HTC drivers for your phone if they are not installing automatically but could be other things.
Now that PC is restored, I'd suggest installing HTC sync manager while device is unplugged and plug it in if I prompted during install. If it installs the proper drivers you should get a prompt on your phone to authorize communication.
Make sure you are logged in as administrator when installing HTC sync manager and maybe even install it with right click>run as administrator.

First of all, I would like to thank you for taking time and replying to this thread. I really really appreciate it.
Secondly, I did all he steps that you asked me too, i..e, installed HTC Manager and the problem is still there. Now, I don't see any wrongly installed driver (device with exclamation sign) ... But it still constantly disconnects ... see attached image
btw, I am not the only one who is having this issue

Tried each option one by one. Every option stated that the connection has been changed to the said setting but the device connectivity with the PC remained the same.
However, when i tried "Internet Pass Through" option, I got the error that either the sync manager is out-of-date or pc is already using something else.
There is one more thing I want to let you guys know that I am using ViperM8 ROM and my phone is rooted.

Not sure about laptop USB debug, but what about the debug option in your phone? Is that turned on? If not, do it (instructions are around here on how to unlock developer mode, I can't locate at the moment - tap build number several times I believe).
Also, might want to try these drivers instead, see if they make a difference:
"Universal ADB driver" - i'm not sure if the download link at the following URL is totally legit, so take a look around just to be sure.
http://adbdriver.com/downloads/
While phone is plugged in, uninstall the HTC drivers from computer device manager, then install the drivers in the link above.
Got nothing to loose at this point so...
I run Stock ROM so I'm not sure about computer connection issues with viper (if any) so I may be out of options for you after that.

Do you have the latest USB driver installed? Also using a USB 2.0 port (A to C cable) seems to work best.
Sometimes it helps enabling USB Debugging in the Developer options.

This feature is important for me to transfer files to and from my phone.
Any help would be much appreciated. Thank you.

Do you get a popup on your phone to choose between charging, file transfer, MTP, PTP etc when you connect the phone to the PC/laptop? If not, you may be lacking the correct drivers.
Also in Developer Options, have you enabled the correct USB configuration?

Do you have the latest USB driver installed? Also using a USB 2.0 port (A to C cable) seems to work best.

Thanks for your response. After downloading the latest USB Drivers and updating each and every USB Serial Bus Controller, using the latest USB drivers, it states each and every Driver is up to date.
As you can see in this image HERE, I don't have a USB 2.0 Port; Only USB Root Hub 3.0 Ports instead. Could this be the issue? And if so, how do I go about downgrading from USB 3.0 down to USB 2.0?

Sometimes it helps enabling USB Debugging in the Developer options.

Yes I sure do, but whenever I attempt to select between the default option of charging over to file transfer, it immediately reverts back to charging again. Initially, I thought it may be down to me using a generic cable, but even after using the official USB-C to USB-C adapter that comes with the Pixel 6a, and the fact my laptop supports this option, I thought this may have resolved the issue. Unfortunately, neither option allows me to file transfer.

I see that you have an AMD system. By any chance is it older than a couple of years? There was an issue with USB ports on AMD PCs/Laptops some time back which, to my knowledge, was never resolved. Instead, the newer models started working alright.
Check with an Intel machine or one that has USB 2.0 ports.
are you using original cable type c cable? used to have that issue then I found out my current usb c (Xiaomi cable) is 5a,it will charge the device but very slow and wont show in device manager ..then i changed to 3a..the issue is solved..
and im using AMD Processor

Did you try an A to C cable? You can't downgrade USB ports.

You could be onto something here. Like you've stated, my laptop is older than a couple of years old, and I've had ongoing issues with my Lenovo Laptop and it's USB ports for as long as I can remember. Do you think a BIOS update could possibly resolve this issue?
It's just a little weird why it worked fine with my old Poco F1, but for whatever reason, with the Google Pixel 6a, it doesn't seem to want to play ball.
Could a possible workaround since all my Auidobooks are stored on an External HDD to simply connect my Phone to a newer PC/Laptop alongside the External HDD and copy/paste the audiobooks over if my phones internal memory is detected? If so, this maybe my only option.
Thanks for the heads up though. This is good to know as it reaffirms my initial suspicion that it may be a USB related issue with regards to this laptop than anything to do with the phone itself.

Now that you mention it, I don't think I have if my memory serves me right? Would a simple cable like the one in this link HERE do the trick? If so, I'll order one tomorrow and see whether this resolves the issue. If not, I know it must be my laptop and not the phone that's causing these issues.

I don't know about that specific cable you linked. What I do know is that people seem to have more success with A to C cables in general. I'm using an Anker A to C cable, but I don't know what model it is.

I don't think so. If my memory serves me right, people tried every possible solution without success at that time.

I remember reading that it was choosy in deciding which phones to work with and which phones not. In other words, it worked with some brands and did not work with others. I also remember it did not work with OnePlus.

You can try, you have nothing to lose.

Why not just plug the external drive directly into the phone? I do that all the time when moving .flac and .mp3 files around -- works fine.
(Though it might depend a bit on the file system the hard drive uses.)
