When I connect my Hero to my computer, i get USB charging only, nothing else happening. My SD card work properly,I tried even factory data reset, problem is still here.My hero running original HTC FOTA 2.1,and I donĀ“t know what to do.Anyone with the same problem?
Is ur Rom a CM based?
Just to clear things out..
When phone is connected to USB is there a USB icon on notification bar at the top of screen?
When you drag down the notification page and tap on "USB connected" does it not offer you a choice to mount the card via USB?
The latter menu choice is named "Disk drive" to be exact.
Sounds like stock 2.1 (FOTA for example)
Should be a setting someone to prompt when connecting what to do. Is there nothing in the drop downs as mentionned. It sounds as though you ticked alsways do this on charge only on the HTC usb plugged in menu.
It should show something like Charge Only. Click to change in the notification drop down - can't remember for sure.
(Not running a 2.1 sense rom atm)
No,its original FOTA 2.1 update.

I think that solution is to restore Hero to original ROM (you can download it from htc web site) and update it to a 2.1 with official FOTA update via wireless or 3G.
Hello everyone,
I am a new user of galaxy s2 i777. I have been trying to connect the phone in usb mass storage mode.
I have gone through a lot of threads in this forum, none of them give a clear idea as to what to do.
some say install kies some say something else... I have tried many things. all of them dont seem to work.
Can anyone please guide me in a clear cut was as to what to do?
Thanks guys.
Out of the box, by the default, when plugging, usb icon will and should be displayed on the notification; pull the notification down then tap to connect the usb mass storage mode. Your PC should recognize it now.
Note: try more than one usb port.
Go to settings->wireless and network->usb utilities follow instructions
I ran into that problem after using one my sisters chargers when i was visiting my parents house. Apparently the usb cable bent the connector in my phones port. I ended up bending it back and it has worked like a charm since then
Or enable USB DEBUGGING option. If you do that as soon as you plug into any computer, the option to transfer files will automatically show in your notification/status bar.

To clarify:
The Galaxy S II defaults to MTP mode (media mode, similar to iPhone).
Unlike said iPhone however, we can change ours back to the UMS (USB Mass Storage) mode by enabling USB debugging.
I never found it documented anywhere, I just ran into by accident when enabling USB debugging for TB and MTP stopped working.
It took me a while to figure out why.
I actually like MTP mode (it's faster and easier to use, except in linux as I understand).
The "USB Utilities" option seems to be a per-use setting (not 100% sure, never used it). However USB debugging is a "set and forget" option.
Use steps I quoted above to enable it.
After that when you plug it in, you can select to mount it to the PC via the notification bar.
Hope that helps.
EDIT: It looks like this option was posted by at least one other person on here before: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=20204599&postcount=12
Tried everything
Guys,
I have enabled USB debugging mode as you have recommended and and it still does not work. I am always getting the notification on windows as "USB device not recognized".
I have tried everything. i have installed the USB driver for I777 from the samsung website. That did not work.
Another strange thing. I tried "Wireless and Network>USB utilities>Connect storage to PC" on my FRIENDS computers(Windows 7), it works.! My phone connects in mass storage mode and I am able to transfer files as usual. I did not install any software on my friends computers.
But when i do the same thing on my WINDOWS 7 PC, it does not work. I use a Lenovo T420i with factory software installed.
I am a noob in the drivers department. Can anyone please tell me what to do.
Thank you.
Help appreciated.
you say "new user" which implies stock rom. if what they are asking you to do is not working, then i believe you might need to exchange the phone. if you have an ICS rom on it, then i think that you might be stuck with MTP until you switch back to Gingerbread. i might be wrong.
Is Anti-virus disabled on your computer? Seems I've heard that it should be, but can't find where... Also, there may be different drivers for a 64-bit machine (W7?) vs. 32-bit.
Have u tried a different USB port or cable on your PC?

Firstly, it's how amazing you are. You asked a question and only returns to it TWO months after? Obviously, it doesn't bother you that much.
Secondly, however, we're here to help.
About your friend computer, a. maybe he did install the Samsung USB driver already or b. maybe, at that time, you are using MTP mode.
Anyway, forget about his computer, let's get it work on yours.
I personally think the USB driver that you've downloaded from their website WOULD NOT work. I don't know why but I can tell you that it did not work for me. Give me some times to dig into my files or search again on this site for the CORRECT driver. You can also help me and yourself by continue to search for this on this xda site since I got it from here too.
Thirdly, along side with the 2nd above, do try different usb cables, do try on different usb ports
I can enable the USB mode on my note, but when browsing the phone with my computer (Mac & PC) I can not see the contents of the SD card?
EDIT: nevermind, rebooted phone and is working now.
Resolved

First of all I appreciate the help you are giving me.
I am sorry if I offended you by not returning for quite a long time to post.
I have now resolved the problem and would like to share for everyone's benefit over here.
The problem was not with the software, it was with the hardware. I followed all the suggestions given over here and was in the end convinced that there should be a problem with my motherboard. This is surprising because my Flash Drive and USB mouse all work with my laptop without any glitches. But my phone(i777) and any other android phone would not connect to the computer. It would say device not recognized.
My nook e-reader which used to work perfectly started acting strange, it would be detected but i would not be able to transfer files onto the nook. So now I ws convinced that this was a hardware problem.
So I called up lenovo and showed them this problem via some software where i could share my screen with them. They asked me if a USB flash drive was working and I said yes. They reply saying that everything is perfect with your laptop and cut the call. I was offended , these lenovo support guys would not understand that it was a complex problem.
So I went to a local MicroCentre which had support for lenovo servicing and showed this problem to a technician. He was convinced that there was some problem and got my motherboard replaced . And voila there connects my android to my computer in USB mode..!
I would like to thank everyone for their help and taking time out to post here.
My laptop: Lenovo T420i with i3. looks like this was a case with my laptop only. a person i know has a t420(i5) in which my phone connected without any glitches.
Thank you for your help everyone. Hope to be helpful in return in the near future.
Hi,
Need help. I used to be able to transfer file via my windows or mac, plug in the usb cable, got the usb debug notification shows up on my phone, pull down the notification, I can choose MTP or Mass Storage.
Then one day, it just decided not to work anymore, I can no longer see those usb debug option. Everytime I plug in my USB cable. I have also tried different sort of usb cable even the original motorola usb cable, but nothing works.
Weird thing is when I plug the phone, nothing happened, then I unplug and plug it back, it will start charging, but still no usb debug options. I also cannot hear any sounds in windows when I plug in the usb.
Please, any idea, tips or does anyone ever experienced this before and know what's the solution?
Thanks much!

Update, it seems to get detected when I plug it in on PC that is running XP. This is getting weirder...
The Stock ICS Final i'm running works flawlessly with the usb connection, but various custom ROM's i've tried can't mount either Internal SD or External SD. Turning off USB debugging mounts the internal memory on some ROM's, but only with read rights.
There are quite a few people with this problem, and despite searching everywhere i haven't found an proper answer as to why this happens.
agree.. i saw a lot of people having the same issue but most solved it by using moto original cable but doesn't work for me sadly.
is there a log in the system itself? something like a logcat that i can take a look?

My poco f1 is not getting detected in pc and there is no option for choosing transfer files or mtp or charging only.
I earlier also noticed that the fast charging symbol had also stopped showing. I tried usb debugging but to no avail.

I did reinstall the drivers and it worked... but only for a short time. what happens is the file explorer window keeps getting closed automatically and i hear the beep sound( the one windows make when a device is connected) continuously for 3-5 seconds and then it stops.
Thought when i tried for the third time it worked and i was able to send a 1 GB file without any errors but i think the time taken was a bit much.
At this point I am quit confused whether its the ports problem or the cables because i also tried connecting in my laptop which also didn't detect my phone.
Should i go the mi care and get the port replaced?

And i tried connecting again but now again it won't connect again...
so basically i back to square 1.
edit: The phone got detected once i tries moving files which was fine till i kind of used the phone for whats app while transfer was still in process and the phone got disconnected automatically(windows explorer closed) though there wasn't any tension in the cable and the usb c port.
edit2: Yeah ok so I am plugging in and out a few times. it got detected and sometimes it doesn't. So I decided to let it be till you guys reply and i put the phone on charging and what i SEE that the quick charging symbol is now showing out of nowhere I didn't do anything in the phone, so how come suddenly the quick charge symbol is coming now?

There is no Quick Charge through the USB ports. USB 3.0 port maximum power output is 900mAh. So I'm not sure how does the QQC symbol appearing if connected through USB. Also, you may need to disable the automatic installation of the drivers in Windows. Could be that the windows are trying to install some "incompatible" drivers. Just guessing. Had such a situation many times with some USB devices. In any case, if you have the warranty, you can always check up the phone. It could be the port also.

If there is a clash between drivers, unless you uninstall the problematic ones, the correct ones will not work. Don't worry, all the drivers will be automatically installed again as and when you connect various devices. Only those drivers which you manually installed will have to installed by you again.

I think its the usb c port probelm.
Whenever I attempt to connect my phone via USB to USB-C or even from USB-C to USB-C using my Windows 10 Laptop, I'm unable to select the File Transfer option. My phone immediately begins charging, and Device Manager does not detect an unknown device.
Is there a workaround to resolve this issue as I would like to place some audiobooks onto my phone that I have stored on my computer.
This has been an ongoing issue for sometime now and I'm still unable to resolve the issue myself. Hopefully someone here can help me resolve this issue as this is the first phone where I've been unable to successfully File Transfer. This feature is important for me to transfer files to and from my phone.
Any help would be much appreciated. Thank you.

Do you have the latest USB driver installed? Also using a USB 2.0 port (A to C cable) seems to work best.
Sometimes it helps enabling USB Debugging in the Developer options.

Do you get a popup on your phone to choose between charging, file transfer, MTP, PTP etc when you connect the phone to the PC/laptop? If not, you may be lacking the correct drivers.
Also in Developer Options, have you enabled the correct USB configuration?

Yes I sure do, but whenever I attempt to select between the default option of charging over to file transfer, it immediately reverts back to charging again. Initially, I thought it may be down to me using a generic cable, but even after using the official USB-C to USB-C adapter that comes with the Pixel 6a, and the fact my laptop supports this option, I thought this may have resolved the issue. Unfortunately, neither option allows me to file transfer.

I see that you have an AMD system. By any chance is it older than a couple of years? There was an issue with USB ports on AMD PCs/Laptops some time back which, to my knowledge, was never resolved. Instead, the newer models started working alright.
Check with an Intel machine or one that has USB 2.0 ports.
are you using original cable type c cable? used to have that issue then I found out my current usb c (Xiaomi cable) is 5a,it will charge the device but very slow and wont show in device manager ..then i changed to 3a..the issue is solved..

You could be onto something here. Like you've stated, my laptop is older than a couple of years old, and I've had ongoing issues with my Lenovo Laptop and it's USB ports for as long as I can remember. Do you think a BIOS update could possibly resolve this issue?
It's just a little weird why it worked fine with my old Poco F1, but for whatever reason, with the Google Pixel 6a, it doesn't seem to want to play ball.
Could a possible workaround since all my Auidobooks are stored on an External HDD to simply connect my Phone to a newer PC/Laptop alongside the External HDD and copy/paste the audiobooks over if my phones internal memory is detected? If so, this maybe my only option.
Thanks for the heads up though. This is good to know as it reaffirms my initial suspicion that it may be a USB related issue with regards to this laptop than anything to do with the phone itself.

Now that you mention it, I don't think I have if my memory serves me right? Would a simple cable like the one in this link HERE do the trick? If so, I'll order one tomorrow and see whether this resolves the issue. If not, I know it must be my laptop and not the phone that's causing these issues.

Could a possible workaround since all my Auidobooks are stored on an External HDD to simply connect my Phone to a newer PC/Laptop alongside the External HDD and copy/paste the audiobooks over if my phones internal memory is detected? If so, this maybe my only option.

Why not just plug the external drive directly into the phone? I do that all the time when moving .flac and .mp3 files around -- works fine.
(Though it might depend a bit on the file system the hard drive uses.)
