I have a ugreen 16gb USB/usb c flash that I used to use on my p20 lite and it worked fine. I tried it with my mate 20 pro and it does not work. I also have a hdmi/usb c for desktop mode and that works with no issue. Did anyone hade a similar problem?
I have a similar issue, the usb connection to the phone is very picky and have to wiggle the connector to get it to see it.

Hi.
I just bought my mate 10 pro and love it.
But I just notice that the otg doesnt wotk, or I dont know if hauwei needs a apecial adaptor or what.
I come from a LG V20 and I normally use a 4 in 1 card reader to conect it directly and it was great, now I try it in my mate and it doesnt detect, I bought a ner 4 in 1 card reader and is the same, do I need to enable something or any one has an idea of what could be the problem.
Thanks

i hav two type c dongle nd an adaptor,it reads/detect the sd card but goes blank just as quick.when i plug in two notification pops up one sd/usb ready to use nd the other is 5 options like reverse charging,transfer.....
dunno where the prob is
Mine works fine (BLA-L29)
im having the same problem. just got this phone, and trying to use a protable hdd which worked with my Galaxy Note 8, Oneplus 6 and laptop. It just comes up with reverse charging. When i select MTP it just reverts back to reverse charging straight away. Please, any help or info would be appreciated. TIA
Looks like your adaptor is not supported. The Mate 10 Pro support anything (mouse, storage, keyboard.. ), got USB 3.1 and display port 1.2

Moving this thread up.
For the past two days now, I have encountered the same problem. When I plug in my HD via the OTG adaptor, I only get a notification for how the USB can be used, but I am unable to toggle between reverse charging and file transfer. It only goes to reverse charging. Any time you select file transfer, it goes back to reverse charging.
This also happened yesterday, and after unplugging and plugging the device again, I was able to mount the HD. Today, I don't have the same luck.
I'm using a uGreen OTG adaptor and a 1TB WD hard drive which I used flawlessly even with my old phones (Huawei P8 and P10Plus). I've used the same combo with my current Mate10 before, but I have encountered this problem after the latest update (for GPU Turbo).
Help?!
I try 2 different OTG and neither work. One for Radio shack and another Xtech. my Cellphone model BLA-L29. Any clue?
Anyone know of a USB-C hub that can charge a P20 Pro while also having it connected to a monitor?
thx.
I can help create a blacklist I am using this one:
https://www.amazon.de/gp/product/B079HQ5X6L
Similar to this one:
https://www.amazon.de/dp/B07B8XM66W
The former does not charge the device. The moment the USB hub is connected, the P20 Pro disables charging and instead puts out power to the hub to power the USB devices, card Reader, GPU, Network and soundcard.
It does recognize the charging cable as indicated in the topbar but currently it's impossible to force the p20 pro to go into charging mode. I think this can be solved by Huawei. I think it's not the hubs fault.
I guess you won't find a hub that does charge the p20 pro as long as Huawei doesn't find a way to mount devices but not try to power them itself.
BR
Good luck
thx Moritz. I ended up getting a HooToo usb-c hub. Not as many ports as the Azdome one you have; just 3 x USB-A, SD card reader, HDMI, and a USB-C port. But cheap (CDN$60) enough.
Ya, it's too bad the P20 Pro won't allow charging while using a hub. Hope Huawei has a workaround for this in the future.
Let me add a new device to your blacklist:
Microsoft HD-500 (the one provided with some high end Lumia, like 950XL).
See this as Samsung DEX before DEX exists.
Here, the only thing it does is charging the phone. Nothing else. Too bad, I've got two of them.

I was wrong; turns out all I needed was a PD-capable charger along with PD-capable hub. So I got a PD charger from the local BestBuy store today, plugged it into my current PD-capable HooToo USB-C hub, and voila...my Pro charges fine with it plugged into an HDMI monitor thru the hub.
I am using a "TRUST #21260 USB-C multiport adapter" together with a "Apple 61W USB-C power adapter".
That setup is charging my phone at 2.7 A while hdmi out is active.
The charging rate is somewhere in between normal and super charging.
A cheaper power adapter that also works with my hub is the "COOSA type-c power adapter PDS75-4UT01" but only if i use its USB-C PD port , the USB-A ports don't work .
hi
i just pluged the usb c to hdmi adaptor i used for desktop mode with my mate 10 and my p20 pro, and oh surprise, it doesn t work :/
no desktop mode for the mate 20 pro??? is there an option to enable somewhere?
mate 20 pro need the hootoo hub to be powered, wasn t the case with mate 10 and p20, weird
I have a powered hub (85w PD) that I use for my laptop. That works fine although it doesn't scale to 2560x1080 ultrawide - but so far the desktop experience is good
Its a thunderbolt 3 dock - everything is thunderbolt 3 certified if that helps
Another bug i noticed is the OTG. I noticed that there is a limit in terms for power draw a USB-C OTG device can receive from the USB-C port of the Mate 20 Pro. USB Power automatically shutsdown depending on a certain current draw and the scenario is somewhat random. This error has been persistent until now with the current version of the F/W (.126)
Although from the phone notification, "Supplying power to the connected device over USB" is present, you will notice from the LED indicator of device attached to the USB port shuts down right after you plug it. If you attempt to re-plug it, usb power is randomly restored.
I am using a USB-C usb hub with HDMI port as the OTG device. I tested this device with another phone (P10, Samsung, etc), power is stable.
I actually have the some problems reading my otg with a USB drive connected. The connection is intermittent. Sometimes it can read the drive and sometimes it can't. I tried it on my P20 Pro and it's working fine. It will be great if others can try it out and review it here.
I'm on version 9.0.0.183 (patch05). Thanks
No otg problem hdmi desktop mode
I am on emui 9.0.0.198 and I have no problem connecting my television through hdmi without extra power. Although at first the connection failed (tv screen showing red stripes and intermittently switching to black screen) and I had to change hdmi cable. Desktop mode worked fine after that hdmi replacement. Maybe just hdmi does not draw much power.
Mate 20 pro.
I bought a usb-c to hdmi cable, it connected to my new LG PC monitor a few times with no problems. But recently (no sure when or why) it will not connect to the monitor but it will connect fine to my Samsung series 7 TV.
The phone notification says the phone is supplying power to the usb device.
I have a ugreen 16gb USB/usb c flash that I used to use on my p20 lite and it worked fine. I tried it with my mate 20 pro and it does not work. I also have a hdmi/usb c for desktop mode and that works with no issue.
I purchased USB c / female USB adapter and when I plug in my OTG USB memory (that does not work when plugged into the phone) now works perfectly.
If anyone can help me with this problem when i try plug usb cable into my phone sometime it recognize when i try how many time to connect and more not recognize than recognize its really annoying me. Bcoz my phone is no problem with any midi controller such as Worlde Keyboard Midi Controller 49 Keys and also i try to tested with Korg microKey 37 Keys via usb otg its no problem those are connected very well. Different for cable usb-a 2.0 to mini-b and usb-a 2.0 to usb-b type.
WORLDE MIDI CONTROLLER 49 KEYS & KORG MICROKEY 37 KEYS is using cable usb-a 2.0 to usb-b type (same like printer cable).
M-AUDIO KEYSTATION MINI 32 MK3 is using just one port for usb type A with 2.0 standard into usb type mini-B. (This is not working properly from my first buy this and until now its still not working properly too. Maybe i need to rooting my Xiaomi Redmi Note 10 Pro?
Please help me and give me the best suggestion ok thanks..
