Basically, I got my S4 yesterday, and I went ahead and quickly rooted it.
Now, the thing is ALL THAT VERIZON AND SAMSUNG BLOAT is so irritating. I wanna get a custom rom and just use it as a barebones android device. I don't really need all those samsung features.
So I ask you guys, what is the most stable, bug-free rom out there. I'm not that into touchwizz and would prefer stock android, but if CM10 or AOKP is buggier than a debloated touchwizz rom, I'd much rather live with touchwizz. I have some complaints on this phone such as battery life and performance, and would like a rom that adresses those, but stability will always come first for me.
So again, I want a ROM with these features (in order of importance)
-Stability (I need all basic stuff, GPS, WiFi, Data, Bluetooth to work 100%; I could go without NFC or whatever)
-Debloated (no verizon crap on it, perferbally no samsung stuff on it, but it CAN stay on there)
-Battery Life (I am a power user, and I cannot get by a full day...it IS a bit dissapointing).
-Performance (performance is actually alright, but there's still little hitches here and there which should not happen considering the specs of this phone, yeah?)
Anyone?! ;~;
In my opinion...CleanROM is the way to go. I have tried most the others. I like that CleanROM is very stock feeling but is extremely quick and stable. Flash CleanROM and then flash this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=42136564
You will be good to go.
im enjoying jelly beans right now
I'd second the recommend for CleanROM. I have NOT used it, but based on your requirements, it seems to fit best. It is heavily de-bloated and optimized, and it has just the minimum amount of tweaks/UI changes. Very solid reviews for most TW roms, so you probably can't go wrong. I'd stay clear of AOSP right now if you want/need everything 100% functional. Each has its quirks, but they're all getting better as we speak.
I was wondering about the pros and cons of each. For example, right now I'm running MIUI, and it has the best experience of any rom I've used (I've been using MIUI since GB on my N1 - only recently upgraded to the GSIII). But, I really like the way Milk Music looks, and I can only get that particular app if I'm running a near-stock touchwiz based rom.
I was wondering if there was a way to get the best of both worlds? Or if I should stay away from stock entirely, or if there are any other benefits I'm missing!
Hello !
I believe this is one of the hardest question to reply ever "stock or aosp/aokp/miui".
For me, everything depends on what you want to do with your phone. Exellent battery life would be stock rom, but more smoothness would be cm, for exemple.

It's mostly about appearance and functionality for me. I'm pretty good on battery life, and have a battery backup if needed. I love how clean MIUI looks. It's always looked obsessively clean, and I love it for that. It also lets me arrange my status bar into the iOS style (I like the battery on one side, signal on the other - clock in the middle).
MIUI with Aviate as my launcher seems to work wonders, and MIUI has a lot of great features - built in data monitor, app and trash cleaners, just a lot of great things to keep the phone running smooth.
But I want the samsung support as well. I like a lot of the touchwiz stuff (minus the actual launcher), and I enjoy having my data backed up with them (MIUI backs up my data, but not all of it, really). And I am absurdly interested in the Milk Music app. But when you look at stock/near-stock touchwiz based roms that have the samsung support and the camera app, and the like, you're stuck with the stock UI as well. Which is nice, mind you - leaps and bounds better than it was in previous versions, but still leaps and bounds behind the work that MIUI has done to give it the smooth feel I've come to expect.
If only there was a way to get the Samsung Framework on MIUI, I think all my problems would be solved.
I never tried MIUI, because I don't really fancy the iOS style..
I think, the perfect rom would be a mix of CM, stock rom, and maybe MIUI too, but I believe that's impossible to make.. :/

Hi all,
I have an INTL 9300 (1gb ram) and it's SLOWLY KILLING ME.
I hate Cyanogenmod and I like Touchwiz, I like the skin, I like the dialler, I LOVE the scheduled SMS function in the SMS app, I like the contacts, I like most stuff. I just want a ROM which is memory optomised if that's possible? Does such a thing exist? Something which disables S-Voice and disables the camera watching your eye and all the other little things.
I've turned off what I can already but my phone is still quite painful.
Does anyone have a suggested ROM for this? I literally don't need any new features.
I've currently got JSS15J.I9300XXUGMK6 (ROOTED) but otherwise stock.
Is there anything which is up to date but somehow the free memory usage is as high as possible?
Thank you all for your time.
IMHO best touchwiz based rom out there is back-to-n00t KK 4.4.4

So low on memory usage then?

What you are asking is like asking for a female model that can run faster than hardcore male runners.
Touchwiz will always be sluggish.
I honestly dont know about that Back-to-noot because I hate the old Samsung Touchwiz, and therefore use roms like S5 Sensation,Blekota S5 Lite and Note 4 Lite.
From those 3,S5 Sensation felt the smoothest.
Any you can try using Seeder ------Seeder Youtube video
Try QS 4.4.2 rom, excellent battery, ram & smooth. Use with Agni kernel for easy tweaking. QS has combined hard & soft mod in a zip for latest release. If you want a slimmer version, try his clean ported NI2 version or use QS based Skywalker rom (300+mb only)

If Touchwiz is slightly slower than Cyanogen / stock google, that's fine by me. I'm more curious if some of the stock samsung apps which are bloatish can be disabled. I know several things can be turned off and un-installed manually by a new phone owner with root but I was curious if other optimisations were possible by ROM developers, dunno.
I think back-to-n00t KK 4.4.4 meant to be a base rom, if you try it you will understand what I mean
instead of back-to-n00t KK 4.4.4 you can use Blekota Note 4 Lite v3 :good: Blekota Note 4 Lite v3 uses back-to-n00t KK 4.4.4 as a base ROM and it's very stable! also it's AROMA so you can choose what to install so if you choose wisely you will get a solid, shiny operating system for your old fella :victory:
Try S5 Sensation
Back to n00t is fine, but you can give S5 Sensation a try as well. You have the Aroma installer, you can cut down the bloatware, S-Voice and other stuff, and just have what you want.
Its pretty stable, good battery life and OK performace, unless you're a heavy user. For daily use, its perfect.!

Totally agree with you
Hey, I am searching for the best rom for my galaxy s3, I want android 5.0, I have used a lot of roms but I want good battery life and the most roms doesn't have that. Does anyone know a good rom with good battery life and that is fast and smooth? Thanks for help. or maybe anyone can help me with the battery problem, I have used a lot of tutorials on youtube about it but nothing seems to be working.
Sorry for my bad English btw

Try BlissPop, this is best room ever
Always keep this in mind:
Stock Samsung ROMs
Pros:
Stable!
Better Camera support
Better Bluetooth, WiFi Direct and AllShare support
Much much more battery friendly than AOSP based ROMs
Cons:
No updates (last Android version 4.3)
Worse performance compared to a "Properly" tweaked AOSP ROM
AOSP ROMs
Pros:
Latest Updates
Responsive and has a great performance (I repeat only on "Properly" tweaked ROMs)
More useful features than stock Samsung based ROMs
Cons
Camera not as good as on stock Samsung based ROMs
Samsung features won't work on AOSP based ROMs
Worse battery
This should give you a general idea on the differences between the two.
There's nothing as a BEST ROM! Every ROM works differently for every user since each user has different uses for the phone.
Help
Should i root and install pure nexus rom on my nexus 9?
Will i get a performance upgrade in normal day to day use?
Yes, difference is huge, like day and night.
Nexus 9 on stock is unusable slow for me.
Example:
Play Music, Youtube and so on open like 5 times as fast as before
Web Browsing is not stuttering/lagging all the time
General Performance difference is really noticeable
I'm running PureNexus Rom + FireIce Kernel
I tried it, but I did not really notice any difference, but I only tried it for a few hours. I noticed that apps opened quicker with CyanogenMod (that could be attributed that to running minimal Google Apps by using OpenGapps Pico) but that could just be in my mind.
What rom did you try and what kernel?
I'm not a cyanogenmod fan, feel like their rom is always a bit slower than others.
DirtyUnicorn is pretty fast as well.
Personally the only ROM I have been happy with on my nexus 9 has been pure nexus. I've changed out kernels a bit but settled with fire ice kernel. Maxed out CPU and GPU over clock and haven't complained about performance for both games and apps. I ran stock for a few weeks and this is a lot better. (Pure nexus) I don't do benchmarks and what not but the overall feel with fsync off is what I originally expected it to be out of the box. Its a nexus. Give it a try if you hate it go back to stock. That's the joy of the nexus. I also use pure nexus on my nexus 6 and love it the same.

I tried Pure Nexus ROM and perhaps one or two others (aside from CM). I tried EX & FireIce kernels.
Regarding the performance or user experience, I have no proof. Just opinion.
Honestly, it is so easy to just try the ROMs & kernels, I wonder why these threads ever pop up. Just try them and see which one you prefer.
