when I'm reading web page, and I'm scrolling up or down, the tablet randomly ZOOMS right in to part of the page i'm on. Often to a section that I'm not even reading. Is this a known issue? Am I doing something wrong?
thanks, hopefully someone knows what I'm talking about cuz it's driving me crazy!!
This happens to me sometime, all I can say is that the touch screen is too sensitive, I have to make sure that my finger doesn't stay on the screen to long.
Yeah the screen seems to have a sensitivity issue.
I'm just sayin!

Can't say it'a an issue, this happens to ipad and Samsung Galaxy tablet as well when I tried my friends' devices. When you get used to your device, this will happen less.

Hopefully this is the case. Then I'll less likely feel this is a problem isolated to my unit.

The Sony S is super sensitive to quiver-fast double taps and finger jiggles (that you may not know you are doing.) Pretty sure that you'll get used to it and, even without thinking about it, simply adjust your browsing method. Takes a day or so to get beyond it.
Well, I've got my tablet for a few months now and I think every day that this is a pain in the ass. Regarding this issue I love the ipad. Or my galaxy s. Neither of them have this issue.

Did you put a screen protector on the screen without removing the factory one? I did at first and was having the same issue as you. Couldn't even type a message because it kept double tapping letters i was trying to type and scrolling while browsing sucked.
I took off the one I put on and just have the factory one now and, though it still happens some times, it is definitely better than it was before.

Yeah I had to do this same thing. The extra screen protector desensitized the hell out of tablet S. I've taken it off and it's much better, but still double taps at times on 1 tap.

The salesman at the sony store put it on for me. So im not sure. I'd like to this he dd it properly.
I truly believe my tablet is defective. The problem I mentioned above plus horrible and slow scrolling, widgets disappearing, widgets freezing. Etc....
My tablet has been a lot better since I removed the protective film covering the screen. The cover was kinda thick. Now the colors are brighter and the viewing angle is better. I like the texture of the glass too.
I also don't notice the "ghost touches" that would happen right after I'd touch the screen, kind of like a double tap. Those were few and far between, but I've been enjoying my tablet sans protector enough, that this is just a bonus.
I'm not guaranteeing it, but this might fix your issue. You could also try replacing it with a thinner protector. My nook color's touchscreen was crazy without a protector, maybe this tablet is the opposite.
---
It also sounds like you could use a factory reset. I was having issues with my tablet being crappy and slow, and after doing a factory reset, freezing the unneeded apps (pretty much all of the Sony ones), disabling the media scanner, and applying the V6 supercharger script OOM values, my tablet has been pretty snappy.
I've been using the new Go Launcher HD home app in place of the default launcher which I froze (aka disabled the package).
Wait, there is a screen protector coming with the tab? I purchased the sony screen protector and put it on. So I've got two protectors on it?

Same with me, my tablet came with a free protector and the shop put it on for me. I am not sure if there is one already there as some insisted here but I have no sensitivity issue even if there are two screen protectors!
Yes it has a protector on it. It is very tough to keep the screen from getting cracked. To remove it, start at one of the corners with your fingernail. I used the bottom rounded corners to start. At first the screen will feel a little rough, but that's from the adhesive. Clean it with sone electronics spray and a microfiber cloth.
I like mine better with out it. The screen feels like glass now instead of plastic.
Yes..the tablet comes with a screen protector preinstalled which you can see if you look closely at the edge of the screen.

Here's a thread with pictures and info on how to remove the factory screen protector...

screen protector
I have the same touch sensitivity problems on my Tablet S (16GB WiFi) purchased in Singapore. Frequent hypersensitive touch behavior leading to random zooming and double taps, 'stickiness' in scrolling menus etc.
I read about the factory installed screen protector here on XDA but was unsuccessful in removing it...couldn't even get the edges to come off. Went down to the local Singapore Sony Service center and asked them to take a look at the hypersensitive touch issue...and what do you know...I couldn't reproduce it on the spot. Tried for 15 min, but the tablet behaved perfectly during the period . Couldn't convince the service tech that something was wrong.
Anyway, i asked them to remove the factory supplied screen protector and they said it should NOT be removed since it's not merely a protector, but a necessary part of the display for improving color reproduction and decreasing glare. Don't know if he was BSing me, but I left it at that. Note the image on this official website under the 'Sony’s amazing TruBlack™ display' section...
[EDIT: Looks like I cannot post a URL as a new user. Please check the Sony Singapore Tablet S official website]
I bought the official Sony screen protector (matte type) and had them install it. The sensitivity is much better now and the frequency of random zoom and double-tap has decreased drastically; but it's still there and pops up occasionally.
I am unsure of what to do next. Could it be a software issue? Among the browsers, I notice that it is most prominent/frequent in Opera Mobile. Occurs less frequently in the stock browser.
Today, I noticed that we have a possibility to set the sensibilty in our settings. Just go to input help (probably not the correct word... mine is german. It's the setting with the hand as a symbol). Within, there is a setting called something like touchscreen gestures. My tablet was default set to short. I changed it and now I don't experience the zoom issue anymore.

It's Touch n Hold Delay under Accessibility and default setting is Short.
I have no screen sensitivity problem on my tablet with extra screen protector on (I'm not sure if there is one factory installed on my tablet until today) so this function is useless to me
Hmm it seems that the touch and hold adjustment worked for me so far. Nice find!

Maybe an app can do the task. As far as using the AOSP flavor of buttons? Won't happen. Sense framework won't allow it, pretty much. Same reason why we can't use the crt animation.

the 5" screen is huge, and can sometimes make using it with one hand a little hard. The on screen keys disappear when they need to, like looking at pictures or watching videos, other than that, its just like using a 4.7" screen or something around that. When using the phone with one hand it can be a little difficult to stretch your thumb all the way down to the hardware buttons without having to readjust how your are hold the phone in your hand, they are badly placed on the bottom like that.

Either you have small hands or are holding your phone weird. I have average size hands and I can reach the hw buttons and the whole screen except like a quarter of an inch at the top left without readjusting my hand.

nope, regular hands, its just the phone is so tall that its sometimes a pain with how they placed the buttons at the absolute bottom of the phone.
I dropped my Note 2 right on the face and broke the glass. The top right corner looks like a spider web with a few cracks stretching to the bottom. The display still works though . I plan to get a new glass and replace it myself. I've found quite a bit of info on how to do it.
My only question is this. When I last made a call with it the screen wouldn't come back on when I pulled it away from my face. I'm hoping it's just because of the cracks that run right across the 2 sensors at the top. Do you think it could be that or do you think maybe one of the sensors broke when it fell.
I sure don't want to have to replace the whole lcd unit. That's about $250 while the glass is about $20.

Hey thanks Luke. It's good to see you again. I'm actually using my Charge again for calls and texts. I find I've gotten really spoiled by my Note. The old phone feels clunky and slow.
Thanks for the good info. I'll definitely look for that when I take the busted screen off. It'll take a few days to get the parts. Wish me luck. I think I'm gonna need it. It looks like a hard job.

Another question. I'd like to be able to make the display stay on when I'm holding it up to my ear. Does anyone know a way to do that? I'd really like to use my Note even though the screen is broken. I don't like my Charge any more because it's too small.

small crack with resolution prob.
I have a small crack in upper right of screen & now my sharp color is gone. It is now very dull almost like I used a photo app & added an overlay to it. Need some advice
Well I got my parts and got the tools I needed to fix my screen. The problem was I got the wrong type plastic razor blades. I got scraper blades instead. I tried it anyway and ended ripping my LCD screen. Now it's costed an extra $ 200+ for a LCD Digitizer assembly. Hopefully the next day delivery will still work even though yesterday was a holiday and the post offices were closed.
Anyway, what I'm leading up to is don't try this if everything isn't kosher. It's a tricky job.
Update: I found out they won't even ship it til Monday. I guess I don't get it back this weekend. I really don't like my old Charge after using my Note all these months.
Yes or No and why. I'm on the fence right now and really wanna know what it's like walking, sitting down and operating a huge phone.
If you can operate a Note 2 you can operate this phone. It is a bit hard to use with one hand but you can with some getting used to it
I would trade 1 handed use for screen any day. How often are you stuck with just 1 hand to do everything? 3% of the time maybe?
I am very comfortable using the phone. I thought size might be a factor but it's not. It is a pleasure to use.
I would imagine using it as a small tablet is comfortable, but are you guys using it as a phone by itself? As in holding it up to your head? Or do you pair a bluetooth device to make calls?

Yes, I use it as a phone holding it to my head. I bought a bluetooth device thinking I would use that as a handset but it remains unused.
Are there any issues with the other side hearing you? While on my note 2, if I'm not talking in normal/loud voice, the other person may complain they can't hear me very well (or maybe it's just this particular restaurant in specific). Since the XZU is so long, it'll go WAY past where your mouth is.

No complaints as of yet.
I don't have the largest hands and I can type in landscape with very little effort. It is hefty, but since it's so slim, you don't really notice. I've made a few phone calls and I'll admit, it looks strange, but doesn't feel unnatural.

No issue for me, if still comfortable for me.
I can make calls with it no problem. No need for a bluetooth device at all unless you want one.
My biggest concern actually is using the phone as a music player. The audio jack is on thw side so it might be too tight on the pants. And while driving, it might be impossible to switch between tracks with one hand lol
I wish android implemented swipe gestures on the screen to wakeup. Its almost effortless and is an elegant solution especially if your phone is idle on a table top

Coming from iPhone 5, I need some adjustment to typing on this device. However, browsing websites and reading articles from Current and Buzzfeed is great, it has that book-reading feel to it. In fact, the big ass screen makes it a pleasure.
It's easy to hold with one hand but making phone calls made me feel awkward, and a little bit embarassed.
I feel like I made the right choice to return to android with this device. I wish it has tablet capacity battery though.

The audio jack on the side is ridiculous - sony did this on XSP too (sony seems to be good at spoiling decent devices ), especially on a "smartphone" this big :silly:
I'm also getting an XZU in couple of weeks, and if using audio cable while the phone is in my pocket proved impossible, I think the workaround is using the wireless bluetooth.. Sounds like it defeat the purpose of a fully-waterproofed audio jack, but some compromise must be made, huh
First look I worry about the size, now I love the size. Inside my pocket no problem for walk, sit and run. I put my note 2 and zu together with my jean pocket or short paint is ok. No doubt.
One hand operate no problem for me. Because I m the big hand.
When incoming call also no problem, answer without bluetooth. Now I won't worry the size only how to root my device.
One more think is this device suitable for male better than female. When my wife hold it look like holding a M16.

It was partly the size but more just its general handling, reaching across the screen even though I tried clustering stuff on one side of it. I had a Galaxy Note sometime prior & I got on with that reasonable well & though the Note 2 was bigger of screen I still thought I would be OK with it.

One hand is comfortable to me with no resize of anything. This is my limit though. Any bigger and I'd need two. (That's what she said!)
The choice is having a small screen and comfortably using with one hand, or having a large screen and using both hands. Heaven or paradise.
Coming from and Evo 3D this phone is quite big for one handed use. It could just be the way I hold it but I even have trouble using the top of the screen one handed not just trouble typing. That being said I do like the size for other reasons. Maybe my sweet spot would be between the 4.3? of the 3D and this 5.2. I'm sure I will get used to it though.
Tiny hands. Then again i'm sure most pro bb players are like, " one handing note 3? Not a problem! LOL!". All personal preference.

I'd not trade for smaller device. It's perfect even if I would have to shuffle to two hands. I'll get used to two hands and deal with a 5.5 or 6 device maybe. Right now I can handle this one handed but absolutely do not want a smaller screen ever again. Ever.

I wonder how the trade-off between the GS4's physical buttons (and thus no screen real estate being taken up by virtual buttons) and the G2's larger screen size works out.
Well, I find the S4 easier to hold because it has a more defined edge. I think the g2 is really awkward to hold, still not comfortable with it.

A case helps hold the smooth phone better and raised edges/bezel does prevent most accidental screen touches. although the phone doesn't feel like it fits as nicely in my hand without the case, but the tradeoffs are worth it.

I'm using this cheap case on my international D802 http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Grip-Gel-TPU-Case-Cover-For-LG-G2-D802-Screen-Protector-/310734809332
It's matte at the back, and the borders have the same glossy colors as the phone, which makes it look part of the phone i think. Had to cut out more room for the usb cable though.
