what are the known issues of pixel experience ROM? - Xiaomi Poco F1 Questions & Answers

Hi all,
I'm hesitating to unlock my bootloader so I can install Pixel Experience ROM.
The corresponding thread mentions what works, but what doesn't?
Additionally, can I still use my banking applications with unlocked BL and non-stock ROM?

You can still use your bank applications w/ an unlocked BL and any, if not all, non-stock ROMs. Used my banking apps on Pixel Experience no problem, same goes for Evolution X which I'm trying out right now.

So to be clear: the only thing I may not do, is to root it. That won't be an issue as I don't need a rooted.phone anyway.

I have a unlocked BL and rooted PE ROM and I can use my banking apps perfectly.
It depends on the detection methods employed by the apps.
I use Magisk with hide module along with Play Services permission trick.
Apps I use: ICICI , Kotak, Google Pay

I'm running rooted and they work without needing to do any workarounds. But since you're not rooting, you don't even need to worry about it.

Not worth it
1. Battery life worse then miui
2. If you plan to use smartwatch or any bluetooth connection device expect resseting the phone before using. Known bug. Random disconnects
3. Some laggs when playing games - mobile legends ..pubg et .
4. Worse wifi/radio signal by far
This are just few to mention. Based on my own extensive usage.
I am on miui and i will not be turning back. Rooted with vanced youtube and google cam
... Happy chappy

Thanks for the feedback. I'm already a while out of the custom rom scene (last time my sony phone was on Android 4.0...). Even at that time mostly battery life and connectivity issues were the most common ones.
Reason I want to potentially move to a custom rom, are the regular security updates when on aosp.

Poco got may 2019 security update....miui is not being neglected. Look its your call at the end of the day. Best of luck

There are pros and cons of using Pixel Experience or any other AOSP based custom ROMs for that matter. But since you have asked for the cons only, here are a few (according to me);
1. Battery life is not as good as MIUI.
2. IR face unlock. Although AOSP roms have google face unlock, it's noway as accurate and secure as MIUI face unlock.
3. While using custom ROMs, you will always feel like there is a gap in between hardware and software as if the ROMs are not using the full potential of the device and can't blend in with the hardware.
4. A lot of visual bugs here and there.
5. Charging speed gets slow even if you browse internet for 5-10 minutes whereas on MIUI, device gets charged fast even after an intensive game play for 30 minutes.
6. Let's face the truth. Even though a lot of users (including me) hate MIUI for ads and bloatwares, but deep down inside we all know that no AOSP based custom ROMs are as stable and reliable as MIUI, as of now.
That being said, if you have time, patience and data, I would suggest you to try out new things yourself rather than relying on other's feedback. Different people have different opinions.

Debloat guide?

Hi y'all,
Should be receiving my X829 from Banggood tomorrow, and trying to figure out what to do re: firmware. I'm a bit wary of the custom roms since it seems like each rom has its share of serious issues. I was going to go with small EUI, but apparently it now has bootloop problems?
Anyway, in the absence of a reliable custom rom, all I really want to do is a debloat of any spyware (including here apps that upload "market research data"). Are there any debloating guides floating around?
I've read that EUI has fine grained control of app permissions. Does this include being able to restrict app internet access, and does this control extend to the LeEco apps and other bloatware installed on the phone by default?
I have not seen a good debloat guide but I'm sure your x829 is going to come with some sort of vendor ROM already ( US? ) .
I just wanted to comment on the stability of all the LOS 13, AOKP, and RR builds ( MM ), I would say are all stable and ready for every day use. Some of the N builds are excellent and just waiting for LeEco to release N . :good:

My impression was that even if they are stable, they are missing some substantial functionality? VoLTE seems to be a problem for most roms (though it's fixed in some), none of the Nougat roms seem to have the cameras working (a significant issue that would prevent me from considering such roms functional, let alone excellent), and (all?) of the non-EUI based roms require the use of a certain camera app to get camera functionality?
I'd very much like to be informed I'm wrong haha!

There is a VoLTE patch floating around, my carrier doesn't support it so I haven't used it.... The camera issues have been solved in most MM builds, but not N builds. The FooteJ camera app work around was just a temp way around the problem that persisted, but now I use it in place of stock because I liked it so much
My suggestion is to try them. Super easy to unlock/root/add custom recovery, Especially if your looking for a smooth clean OS.
EUI is packed with bloat and ad on , I don't like it.
There are 6 apps on chinese 23s rom. I don't use them and they don't cause any issues. They are in my app draw as I use nova launcher so don't see them.
I tried most of custom roms but find stock more stable and it works OK apart from Gmail notification but I use BlueMail from playstore which works perfect. No real need to de bloat to be honest.

So I got my Banggood X829. As far as I can tell, there are no chinese apps, and only two leeco apps: LIVE and My LeEco. All the GApps are there as the default. Everything worked out of the box, so I've just decided to restrict the permissions of the LeEco apps, and installed Nova.
The launcher was bad (no app drawer!, ughh), but the other aspects of EUI are pretty nice. In particular, the the app switching button on default Android is an incredible waste of space that's hard to navigate through. The way it's implemented in EUI is both more user friendly, and putting media and settings shortcuts there is a more efficient use of space than stock.
I imagine there'll be no OTA updates, so I think I'll just stick with stock EUI until someone gets a Nougat ROM with the camera working.
Won't be any updates on that vendor rom if same as mine from Banggood. The updater app was removed on mine. Got rid of it for a newer stock rom immediately.

[Custom ROM] Elephone S8 Firmware 20180621_AEROM_v1

Hi
you can find it on Elephone Forum
https://bbs.elephone.hk/forum.php?mod=viewthread&tid=14242&extra=page=1&mobile=2
based on Android 7.1.1.
Changes (after stock firmware 20171018):
- Optimized proximity sensor
- Optimized camera (recommendation: in Camera settings set to Allow manual exposition, and set exposition to -1 or -2, the camera will work faster)
- Optimized power consumption and battery life
- Optimized stability
- Solved heating problem while simple apps used
- Some other bugs fixed.
Wow, nice ! I'll try this asap I hope this is better than Eragon
Is there any way to root it ? I'm not sure it's the same way than with official rom, is it ?

I think it would be helpful that you make a new topic, too. Because all I know is that you can't get into recovery without a system .... maybe adb and fastboot!?
This ROM brings even more bugs.
According to users on the official Elephone site the ROM is not recommended.
https://bbs.elephone.hk/forum.php?m...&extra=page=1&ordertype=2&page=2#.WzaSXtIzaM8
I flashed it a few hours ago. When you load the scatter file with flashtool be careful that 'userdata' is NOT checked or all your apps and data will be lost.
After flashing the new rom I flashed twrp recovery with flashtool and then booted into recovery with 'adb reboot recovery'. There I installed supersu.zip for root access.
The new rom does not make a real difference at first sight. I will try it a few days to find out about battery and performance.
What I already found out:
-more bloatware
-no live wallpapers supported
Does anyone have an idea how to install the live wallpaper abilty to the system?
I have installed the rom for almost a week now, this is what i found so far:
-memory management diferences are negligible if any
- audio sync in certain apps have not changed
-camera app is a old version of google camera and it is buggy, but can be easely fixed by a 3rd party camera app
- performace seens a lot better with a inscrease of score in antutu from 78k to 90k and it does fell a lot better to use
-the new bloat is just google stuf and dolby atmos which does somewhat work as intended
-the old bloat like mtk logger is not present
-no further bugs found yet
Can waste time trying out rubbish. If they can't do OTA then they can shave that update up their a#s.

I'm using the 'new' rom for 2 and a half weeks now and today I flash back the original firmware. Here is what I found out on my S8:
postive:
- battery life and charging time have actually improved (that's it for positive...)
negative:
- Live wallpapers don't work. I did not find a way to solve this.
- No real improvement on the camera, focus is still slow. They use a different app now but sadly the front light is not supported anymore.
- Problems with changing networks got even worse. On the old rom I had problems when changing between mobile data and wifi, now even changing between wifi networks does not work properly
- Wifi speed is very low sometimes. The only way to solve this is a complete reboot.
- I did not notice any improvement in performance and temperature, so I cannot tell whether this is good or not.
- Bloatware like some google apps, a few apps called something like lawnchair, unknown file explorer and music apps
If this is the update we are waiting for since half a year, it is very disappointing. In my opinion they got it even worse and there is no reason to flash it.

Does it is worth to root?

Hi guys, I'm coming from a display broken S7 edge
Got this phone yesterday, so far it has been a nice experience
for the ones who already rooted, is worth rooting? Worth changing stock ROM? Seems stable to me but I wanna know if it really improves with root and another ROM.
also, does this have a step counter?
Thanks in advance
Depends on personal user experience...some may prefer stock over anything...but in case of poco performance is better in miui compared to custom rom...in terms of features, 60 fps video can be enabled on custom rom and not on stock miui...
It depends on your use case i suppose. Even if you were to use MIUI, you might want root for a system level adblocker. If you are not using any apps that have ads in the first place, and while xposed is not supported under pie, and you have no need of things like Magisk (Youtube adblocking, Gapps Force Doze, ANX Camera...), then i suppose you don't have a great need of root.
Well, atleast until the Whatapp ads happen. They are coming
Thank you both for your answers, ads are really annoying to me. Don't know if there would be any solution without the need to root. This would've the first time I haven't rooted my personal phone, but the ads thibg surely matters a lot
The fact that you are asking if it's worth rooting tells me that you are better off not rooting as your usage does not need root. For you probably is better to stay stock and non rooted.
I have been rooting my device for a long time. First it was SuperSu and now Magisk. At the beginning, I used to root just to mess with the device. Then I was used to Titanium backup and a few rooted apps. With the release of Magisk, rooting was a must for me for amazing modules like Viper FX, systemless busybox, fonts etc. Just a few days ago, I thought of giving a try without root to see how important it is in my life. So I vlean flashed stock rom and locked BL. Now after a couple of days usage without root, I find my device more responsive and fluid than it was with Magisk (because of the way Magisk works). I definitely miss ViperFX, sysyemless fonts etc. But it's not like I can't live without it. Most importantly, Android has come a long way. There are a lot of apps getting released everyday which are decreasing the needs of rooting. And some apps even work with ADB access. Of course, this is my personal opinion. Your experience may vary.
Try NetGuard for blocking ads without root

NetGuard is a firewall which can run even on non-rooted phones and can block any incoming or outgoing connection request from the phone on a per app / per domain basis.
I have been using NetGuard since day 1 on my poco and it's been an amazing experience! Zero ads but what's even more important to me - a sense of privacy since I block most of the outgoing MIUI analytics and tracking connection requests.
Also, the app is free but I have got the paid version for extra features as well as supporting the dev.
You can try out the app from either the f-droid build (https://f-droid.org/packages/eu.faircode.netguard/) or GitHub (https://github.com/M66B/NetGuard). There was also a discussion page right here on XDA, if you want to check out.

Use adguard app, It's been the best for me. I installed it on the day 1 when I got this phone. Infact installing YouTube vanced and adguard is the first thing I do in a new phone.

What (not rooted) ROMs support banking apps?

Hi,
I tried using the search functionality, but all the threads I've found are either dated or irrelevant.
I'm currently using the PE10+ ROM, but a few bugs got me looking to change.
I'm looking for a stable daily driver, hopefully with gcam incorporated, but I can flash it later.
I do use banking apps like gpay, and don't plan on rooting the device.
I've been thinking about LOS, but let me know what you think, and whether or not it supports banking apps
Kind regards.
you can use miui eu its preety neat and bloat free. Have been using it for more than 18 months feels solid.

Thanks for the reply!
I tried MIUI for a while when I just got the device, but it had bugs that really annoyed me:
1. I keep my phone on vibrate during the day, but during the nights i set it to DND on a timer (after so and so hours it comes out of DND). On MIUI, it never came back to vibrate, but rather switched to ringing on a low volume setting.
2. If I listened to FM radio, and got a Whatsapp alert, the FM radio would mute, and never come back. I had to kill the app and open it again.

FM I haven't used in years so I cannot comment on that. I am using MIUI 12 eu rom. I don't face the vibrate issue you are facing. Night mode works flawlessly for me.
You can try Havoc & Evolution X. Both of them support banking apps without root.
You can use Pixel Experience for banking accounts, but I think you'll still have to use magisk hide thus be rooted. Best option is to relock bootloader after installing the stock rom and stock recovery.
Try Oxygen OS it's really good in battery backup and touch response and sound with mono audio , with gcam( have to flash though but working good ) , ambient display with pulse notification and video enhancing alll are good man it's worth a try !
Banking apps supprts in some versions and in some don't ! In my rom g pay and p pe half working , can open check balance and receive but can't able to send so I'm using paytm bank and it's working flawless .
If other than Oxygen os i suggest to go for evolution and PE with 10+ version .. it's awesome and can be your regular driver . Hope you likes one of them . Have a good poco exp

Question Do I need root / Unlocking bootloader (only)

I'm expecting my 10T to arrive shortly (upgrading from the OP5). In the past I've always rooted my phone, with AdAway and the ability to do full app + data backups being the main things I still use root for.
With the 10T I'm not sure I can be bothered with the extra hassle of being rooted (potential issues during upgrade, potential for GPay and the like to stop working).
It's been so long since I've had to migrate to a new phone, I've no idea how good the data transfer is between phones (specifically app saved data that the app won't export/save to the cloud) - does anyone have any experience of these tools?
One of the issues with potentially wanting to root later is wiping everything to unlock the bootloader. Are there any issues with unlocking this straight away, but not rooting? Does having an unlocked bootloader cause certain ( eg banking etc) apps to not work or is there zero issues with doing this?
Most people usually just unlock and don't root for that reason. There's no downfall to doing that, benefit is u will already have it unlocked if u want to root later.

For data switching, there are things built in OnePlus. Rooting and unlocking BL is perfectly normal as i am one of those users of op10t fully rooted. Having said that, some users have reported a few banking apps detecting root and causing issues. For me, i haven't faced it.
For the other points which you have mentioned, I use gpay, upgrade software (there are ways and means to do everything and you need to learn, adapt).
The most primary purpose for me to root, unlock, remains custom ROMs which is a complete negative at this moment - thanks mainly to OP, changes in stock Android etc. Still I prefer to stay rooted, if that answers your question
Thanks guys.
Unlocked it will be.
I don't doubt there will always be ways round things, but I'm not sure it's worth the extra effort for me personally.
Gpay and banking apps should work fine, maybe you only need to flash Universal Safety Net Fix. But if you want to watch netflix or any other streaming services it won't work.
Yes, unlocking the bootloader is a good start on XDA!
But, as mentioned Netflix, etc. will not work...
So reading a bit more, it sounds like unlocking the bootloader (and nothing else) will fail cts profile match.
Does failing CTS mean Google Wallet will not work?
