and sort of played with other android 2.1 and 2.2 phones around..
i kinda feel that my x10 mini pro is much smoother than the rest..
which is why i cant wait for 2.1 to come out!!

But it is still valid. Aside from a small Scandinavian community, rest of the world will receive the upgrade in Q4 (November, December). Besides despite their assurance that the whole X10 family will get upgrade, what i read in scandinavian forums is that so far only X10 and not mini and mini pro are bing upgrades. So realistically we can expect UK unbranded in the middle of November, as I always said.
sorry
Wrong link
one sec
Here is the fixed one:
X10 2.1 Software Update 2
Here is where i saw it.
Xperiax10.net X10 update SUnday release Nordic first
would the same rooting instructions for 1.6 work on 2.1?
so..what can we expect from 2.1 for xperia mini..?..bluetooth is the main benefit i think
what about battery life?or anything else ..

No it's not valid because a new statement came out today. New statement means the old one is not valid anymore. I don't care about "small Scandinavian communities", because the are wrong.
And you are wrong too, because the Update will come for ALL X10 including Mini and Mini Pro.
Read this:
Today I can confirm that we will start the roll-out of the Android 2.1 based updates for Xperia X10, X10 mini and X10 mini pro now this coming Sunday. The roll out will start in the evening European time.
So far I have received confirmation that the generic kits for the Nordic countries will be the very first ones out on Sunday evening and then there will be more kits coming already during Monday and then the roll-out will continue throughout the month of November.

And hopefully bluetooth head set compatibility, as I have heard that very few were compatible with this phone.
I sure hope that they will include some new radio, as I am unable to see wifi networks at channel 13, plus the draft N would be nice too.
PS: I hope that the battery increase is true, 30% is a huge increase just from an update.
Now we just need a bit more patience , GOD I need to buy some on eBay ASAP, hehe
Latest update is that the 2.1 will be release from Sunday Evening European time. Nordic countries get the first cut. Release will be in phased approach.
read http://blogs.sonyericsson.com/products/ dated 29 Oct 2010.

at the beginning of a smartphone development and before optimizing the software the battery can only last 30 minutes so software has a much to do to the battery life ,so 30% is possible .but where did you get this 30% statement?
also wondering since the x8's software is certified before the x10 mini on ptcrb and there exactly the same software versions, why x8's 2.1 is later this year?. the three phone mini/pro/x8 are identical in terms of software.
Hi guys, been a long time since I've visited XDA-Developers, boy does things change. I'm interested in buying a cheap second phone for myself, and eyeing the X10 Mini Pro. I read that Sony Ericsson officially kills possibility of Android 2.2 onwards on the X10 Mini Pro, what does it means for everyday users like me? I've been detached from mobile tech news for quite a while, so pardon my backlog of knowledge.
I also understands the system is locked, effectively blocking future port of new rendition of Android, so it's stuck on 2.1 for good.
What I intend to do with the phone is just basic email checking/replying, chat, phone, sms, calendar, social networking (mostly Twitter)... Well, that's that. Does the 2.1 is adequate to do just that?
Also, is there any issue I should know about the keyboard as I'm a heavy texter.

The x10 minis can do all that with flying colours, since back when they had 1.6, even chat! 2.1, or eclair, is the current and final version of android that we'll get officially, but hey, the x10 minis are pretty awesome already! froyo has overall performance improvements, and a lot of new goodies, but all that basic stuff you are talking has always been with us and the keyboard is just great, very comfortable.

The x10 mini pro does all that wonderfully. If you want a small cheap phone that gets the basic things done then it is a good choice. The keyboard is fantastic but so is the on screen keyboard.
Thanks guys for the info. I'm smitten with the phone's compact design, I'm sure Sony Ericsson has a good reason for settling in on Android 2.1. I would be lying to say I'm not interested at all on Froyo or general Android update, but I don't even like plugging in my phones for official software update. Sure if gingerbread comes somehow for the Mini Pro (definitely from XDA-Dev user), I'd be willing to try.
and a 2.2 might come sooner than you think

alpha released today
edit: just realized that only xrecovery is linked, but first post says that it probably comes later today
Now that the latest mini's are announced with 2.3 it should be that much easier for SE to release 2.3 update for older mini's. Plus they are also on board with the latest Andriod update policy, anyway to remind this fact i started a thread in fb se fan page which is guaranteed to bring their attention.

I don't think so.
I suppose it apply just for "new" phones, not "old" ones
Doubt it: knowing Sony , theyll just say the original X10 mini never existed.

hope this updated coming through
they will not update it the new mini and the new pro are completely different then the old mini and the old pro screen size ARM family and that ****
they will not make an update for old mini and pro coz the new mini and pro are realeased
We still have to write the official site!
While I would very much like an oficial update, it just wouldn't make any sense for a commercial point of view, even if the new Mini line was the same hardware, they want to sell more phones, not rehash old ones.
I think that SE never release Android 2.3 for old mini/mini pro... I' m owner of mini pro and I just rooted and used MiniCM v7 what's Android 2.3 and it's much better than SE ever can release

Are you sure? Because until nobodyatAll fixes it, Your Mini Pro won't be able to use the 5MP Camera or VGA Recording, things that would be working perfectly on a stock SE 2.3 ROM.

What are the realistic factors limiting them in making an update for our Mini/MP's?
I understand that the hardware specs are different, but they both possess the same functionality and run the same features. If they're making the update for the x10, surely it wouldn't be too great a leap in tweaking it to release on a device thats pretty much exactly the same? I'm not a developer, but it just sounds like a cop out.
I understand that it is almost impossible that SE upgrades old minis.
But, as long as the new minis have android 2.3, I'm sure that it would be easier to develop a custom ROM based on that one.
Let's hope it's stable.
Yes but why? They're just a smaller version of the same phone but with slightly less impressive specs i.e. the x10 has a 1ghz processor, whilst the mini/MP has a 600mhz processor, which has been overclocked comfortably by a lot of guys here.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075320
There is no realistic factor limiting them, its probably just their marketing department.
i want to use rom cook but i don't know what room cook have long battery life that?
You might want to find a forum that speaks your own language or try to make it more clear what you mean. I didn't understood much of what you said. Also, since it's about battery life in some way, there probably already is a topic for whatever you want to ask, and in that topic your answer probably is too. Use the search function
The truth is that this very talked the matter.
What version 1.6 is already outdated, version 2.1 is far better, to say nothing of 2.2.1 and 2.3.x
Ok, I think I understood what he meant.
He's looking for a Gingerbread (or Froyo) rom which has same battery life as his xperia x10 mini pro with Android 1.6 (~ 4 days).
I thought we could create a thread dedicated to the upcoming new android version regarding the Xperia mini/mini pro and Ray.
Maybe here we could gather information about release dates, user interface thoughts and ideas, features etc.
Sounds like a good idea?
Peace

I somehow think that Sony might pull a "We believe our stock 2.3 rom is the best ever. We see no reason to update" like they did with their older phones, and save it for their 2012 range.
Yeah possible, but then again they have stated that all the 2011 models will get ICS, and hopefully they have learned from the disaster with the X10.
But after spending some time searching the forums I'm starting to think that your scenario is pretty possible, sadly...
Sent from my ST15i using xda premium
Yes, I think the same My second phone is x10 mini pro and SE end support his on Android 2.1. Reason? Thats the best for this hardware. Now I have alternative rom an android 2.3.7 and it work faster like stock rom 2.1 Thanks for devalopers from xda.
hopefully
if they dont release it for 2011 xperias , hopefully the epic cool devs here will, as a custom rom
i'm an x8 user and they had me stuck on 2.1 and if they ever do this again to me ( i plan to get the xperia mini pro ), idk then next time i'm buying a phone i will consider that SE is invisible and have no existence in planet earth anymore lol , regardless of what so ever "super cool" looking handsets they might have available at the time......
if you like Android 4.0 theme, you can use
ICS Launcher
https://market.android.com/details?id=mobi.SyndicateApps.ICSv2
it's free app
I guess they put out a statement on it, pretty vague. But Engadget interprets as SE confirming ICS

I'm quite confident that it will come, eventually. Don't hold your breath on when exactly that will be, though I'm sure CM will beat them to it.
SE firmwares are somewhat backward compared to firmwares provided by samsung or htc in their devices. (eg. No smart dialing in my mini pro). And the timescape UI lacks many features (I don't need five home screens, but can't change it). I hope they will improve such minor details in forthcoming updates.
