EMUI 9.1 EROFS Linux file system? - Huawei Mate 20 Pro Questions & Answers

I am happy to received EMUI 9.1 to my beloved Mate 20Pro...
Please refer below mentioned link, so that you know what I am talking about. EMUI 9.1 converts your file system to EROFS, which is a big headache for me now.
====================================================================================================
Huawei announces the EROFS Linux file system intended for Android devices (XDA Article) CLICK HERE
====================================================================================================
Please share you views regarding this new file system EROFS (Extendable Read Only File System). How to make system as R/W, after rooting EMUI 9.1? I could't change anything to system partition. Root explorer or any similar app did't mount system as R/W, it stays R/O file system whatever command used in adb or terminal.
What are the advantage or disadvantage of this file system?
How to convert EROFS to ext4 or f2fs?
After converting EROFS to other file system do we get any update or flash future update?
Sharing is caring...Share your valuable thoughts here...:highfive:

Well at the moment no one answering my question regarding this topic. Hope experts can help in it. Wait what will come out next because we are not alone in this community.
One good news is you can still use EMUI Flasher Tool 1.1 by @OldDroid to update EMUI 9.1 future updates.
Thanks,
goldybewon

I hear something like you can use 10gb as 12gb. And benchmark score can boost up to 3 time. In conclusion, way more fast. As as they claim maybe safer?

Yeah but you can't delete anything it's not actually correct

Some folders are RW. The over part, /system and / are not rw even if root explorer show it.

Does not help on erofs mountpoint.

we have to convert to ext4 fs but latelly when i tried it, it will get stuck on bootloader, maybe bootloader needs to be disassembled and some bits disabled for check of erofs i have no idea tho..

EROFS is faster which means the OS and day to day usage of the phone will be faster and less demand on the battery

No, the HTC Gratia shipped with Froyo 2.2 and HTC Sense and the HBOOT loader has been modified so that Unrevoked will no longer work. There is currently no permanent rooting solution for the unbranded Aria/Gratia that are running HTC Froyo 2.2.
That's unfortunate, I would think htc would know that some people buy android phones to avoid these kind of problems.

There has been no progress on finding a rooting solution for the Aria/Gratia 2.2 ROMs. Without root it appears that there is no way to flash the required fonts on your phone.

Copying fonts needs to be done with the /system partition mounted Read/Write. On a rooted phone, this is done by booting into ClockworkMod recovery mode and mounting the system partition and then you can use "adb push" command to copy fonts to your phone. Although you can gain temporary root, I don't think you can mount the /system partition in R/W mode.

Is there any spacial fonts or method to copy fonts into fonts directory?

Emui 9.1. The system partition does not go in rw

Hello. I installed emui 9.1 on my mate20pro with the dload method. I unlocked the bootloader again and rooted the system with patched recovery. The phone is rooted, but the system partition remains in ro. I have tried various apps to mount the system in rw, but without success. I have also tried some commands found on the net both through adb and emulator, but nothing to do. I have also tried using rootexplorer which has been granted root permissions, but fails to modify anything, nor to insert or delete files within the system folders. What can be done?

it's the new filesystem called erofs (Extendable Read-Only File System)
So there's nothing to do?
Sorry OP if this is off topic , but its about magisk and root in 9.1
I have the "system partition remains in ro" issue too , its annoying yes , but I have a bigger problem
When "rooted" , the phone app ( dialer ), and the contacts app both get broken and crash .. So I have to fastbootflash twrp and lose root to make those apps to work normally again
Anyone with the same problem ?
I need root so I can change and use the font ( I like ) with a magisk module

Magisk can already 'replace on the fly' file from /system systemless-y.
It dies already support erofs.
Check Magisk documentations.
There is also a way to mount custom erofs partition....
which is?

Build your own erofs partitions (cf. erofs.mkfs)
Unmount stock ones and mount yours.
I just did some test 48h ago on erofs /cust and it seems to work...
-Mounting other file system type on same folder could even work !

- Or did you meant something else ?
Magisk Doc. :
https://topjohnwu.github.io/Magisk/
So far, out-of-the-box, Magisk is already ready to replace systemless-ly files and paths on /system easily when used with modules.
-Module just need a a small tweak to add Magisk systemless-ly compatibility to other erofs partitions like /cust
Another way would be to bind or mount...

my reply was not for you but for the off topic before my reply: contact, ph app and message force close after root.
as I said, there is already a solution about force close.

Hi, I saw that you managed to get a custom erofs partition mounted using magisk. I was wondering if the same could be done for the/product folder because that would allow me to fix the DPI scaling issues found on EMUI 9.0-9.1. Would it be possible to see the code for your magisk module?
Ok, So.
After having a look at what I did with this WorkInProgress...
So far there is 2 main way I thought about and played with:
Method A
A1/
Using the mkfs.erofs tool to make your custom erofs partition and mount it over the original one. (mayne umount it before)
Thanks @ph03n!x for his work on mkfs.erofs.
Thanks @ante0 for his android arm build.
A2/
I did not yet tryed to flash via fastboot or adb these modded erofs images.
Method B
What I'm actually doing is just mounting systemless-y with a magisk module whole folders over erofs one ;
In post-fs-data.sh, I'm doing:
mount -o bind $MODDIR/cust /cust
mount -o bind $MODDIR/version /version
With a ~150MB custom /cust it is working ; It should be tryed/perfected for bigger folders.
Another way, to not replace/spoof the whole folders could be to mount the whole list of custom files at their respective path (-to be tested)
PS: I'm not sure if update-binary module's file should be modded with some:
mount /cust 2>/dev/null

I'm rather new to this trying to do something similar on my EMUI9.1 using Magisk, I'm having a problem that i can replace anything in most other folders without much problem like /etc/ for example, but when i try to substitute /vendor/, whatever i put it the folder does not only fail to get substituted, it even disappears from the $MODDIR/system/vendor folder upon restart!
I.e. let's say I create a new file in $MODDIR/system/etc. Upon restart i'm successfully seeing that same file appear /etc.
However when I create a new file under $MODDIR/system/vendor, Upon restart i'm not seeing that under /vendor. ALSO the file is gone from $MODDIR/system/vendor like it was never there.
Any idea what is happening? I've also tried manually mounting in the post-fs-data.sh, where i put the following:
mount -o bind $MODDIR/system/vendor /vendor
That actually caused my system to freeze on the loading screen. I had to reset magisk to non-modded settings in order to get it to run again.
Any help's appreciated.

permission denied when copying files to system partition after rooting

Does anyone can help me out? After rooting (magisk patched boot img), I wanna change the system fonts by modifying the /etc/fonts.xml, I got "permission denied" error when copying files to /etc or /system/fonts folders via ES File Explorer (already opened Root Explorer option) or Terminal commands. I checked the property of /system folder using ES File Explorer, it shows that root user should have write access to the /system folder. Can anybody help me? Thanks in advance.

With system as root and Magisk I don't think /system is no longer a valid mounting point, which means you can't modify it in any way.
A module would be the only option in your case.

Help: Removing system files using adb without root

So basically I'm using Xiaomi's Redmi Note 7 Pro and its camera skips frames when recording video and in one forum ( This one ) , in that forum that guy suggests to delete the thermal configuration file for the camera app which is limiting the camera from functioning smoothly.
So the problem is its in system directory and I really can't afford to root my device right now. I really can't. And while browsing along the internet, I found another forum ( This one ) which says you can remove some system apps without root just using some commands in ADB.
That made me think if theres a command for deleting a file through ADB and I found this forum ( This one ) which gave me this command ( rm /sdcard/0/file_to_delete ) .
I'm really Noob at these things and I want your help.
I used FX File explorer to check if the file exists and I can see it, but cant delete cos its read only and my device is not rooted. The file is in /vendor/etc/thermal-engine-camera.conf (or) system/vendor/etc/thermal-engine-camera.conf . I dont know if i should include the /system/ before /vendor/ or not, im nub.
So please tell me whats the proper command with the directory or if it wont work. I really want to get rid of that config file which is messing up the videos im recording and i really cant root Thank you

It is generally not possible to perform file changes through fastboot/bootloader. To do so, you need to have a runtime environment such as TWRP. Bootloader/fastboot generally only handles partition images.

Not through bootloader or fastboot. You can dump an image, edit it, and reflash it, but this would all be much more complicated than using TWRP, which would allow you to mount the partition as r+w so you can effect the edit you want.
