You mean after downgrading back to stock-based Oreo you can't install and boot AOSP ROM?
Or you're trying to do that from Pie beta?

so can i flash my stock 4.4.4 android to fully unroot, and then update to 5.1 lollipop with the OTA, and then root and directly flash the lineage rom? i heard that one needs to update to lollipop to update one's bootloader...
that would be the correct and safe process right?

But there can be other reasons like flashing unstable, wrong roms recoveries kernels scripts etc..

Do you mean we can't downgrade the ROMs, 7.1 to 5.0 directly, so do we have to go 7.1 to 7.0 to 6.0 and then 5.1 and then 5.0?
No we can downgrade directly. But be careful, we shouldn't go to 4.4.2 we can go to lollipop or 4.4.4. I have tried it myself and went back to lineage too

Any custom rom boot logo reboot

After installing any custom rom (Lineage, AICP). I get to the logo screen for the rom and after a while it reboots. I installed gapps arm64 7.1 stock.
Were you on stock firmwares B360 or B370? These won't work with ROMs.

I am not sure. Would I be able to flash the firmware? How do I find out what firmware I am or was on? I did flash stock Honor 5x (Android 5.1) firmware after a touchscreen crash from UPDATE.APP (img files).
Wait, you were on Lollipop before flashing Lineage?
You have to be on Marshmallow firmware, anything before B360 is fine.
Yes, I was on Lollipop. So flashing Marshmallow I guess then Lineage will work?
Yes, as long as that Marshmallow firmware isn't VoLTE one. My phone was on B350 before flashing, all works fine.

So flashing the Honor 5X Marshmallow update is okay? Or using a custom Marshmallow rom will do also?
How do I find out what firmware the rom has?

You need stock as a base - download and flash it (check honor/huawei sites for links, and forums for manuals), usually has firmware version number in it. Installed EMUI firmware gives you version under "About phone" in settings.

Find a custom rom for your device. Root device first and flash custom recovery and flash custom rom from the recovery. Just google here or somewhere for the dedicated flashing process for your device.

Bootloaders are different between major updates like this. So you'll need to lgup the kdz file to get everything back in order

Nothing gonna help you. Some of us on telegram have this problem, some use the method flashing h931 to boot aosp and succeed, some did not.
