Hello guys,
I am thinking about buying Mate 20 pro as my new smartphone. I really love it overall, but I am also scared of #gluegate.
As I see in Internet threads and groups that were talking about it recently get silence, and the phone is still selling great.
So my question is - should I worry about screen in this device or buying it 8 months after release date is now completly safe, becouse new parts of M20pro are modified/improved?
Not heard of any recent issues. Was just the first batch.
I have the first batch, no issues with the display so far
How can I find my device's batch? And which batches had problems?
I think that this was a problem of only first batches, but I am not sure.
Production date is in serial number
6 and 7th sign of serial number is year of production
8th sign is month:
number 1 to 9 are months from January to september
A, B or C means october, november and december
So for example 18C means december 2018
191 means January 2019

If you download hw device info to the phone you can see if its a boe or a lg panel. I have had zero issues with 3 different boe panels. Every lg had the issue.
Mine is 18C and no issues at all with anything.

Hi, just got a new G5 H850 European version, and saw it has a 604K... serial number (on the side of the white box).
After seeing this video I am curious about the differences between the
new and old serial number G5's, wondering if I should return it.
Mine was bought 9 November 2016 (officially imported by LG in Romania) and it came with a 604K serial, meaning April 2016,
why could it be so old, didn't they renew the stock for 7 months ?
Also, the HW revision from Settings->About Hardware is Rev 1.0, and on the green box it says "MAY66193505(1.0)WR".
What are your serial numbers and purchase dates ?
Does anyone have a HW revision bigger that 1.0 ?
Thanks.
I found a link(ignore if already seen), where in LG provides details about monthly security bulletin for their devices. Wondering why they don't roll out.

Not really that "monthly"...
Depending on regions and carriers, updates may be released monthly, quarterly or irregularly. LG plans to expand the list.

It's a shame our international G6 is so behind other devices which already got their updates. That's not what I expected when I bought this phone. Overall it's great but LG's support, in fact it's lack of support, sucks in many ways.
The best combo for me would be: G6 with OnePlus update schedule as it fixes their phones quickly and Apple update schedule for 3-4 years of updates
But why facilitate when you can make things more difficult?
Well, this is our punishment for buying a "budget" phone ? . I wonder how much would cost a LG flaghsip that receives monthly updates as Nokia. As an owner also of a Nokia 5, I must say that I.m impressed by their commitement, since they issued every month security patches and some days ago they pushed oreo beta with december patch.

2 year old Moto G Turbo, and LGs flagship G6, both are on Oct security patch.
Not all G6. Some in Israel, Turkey, Latin America. Mine is Europe open and is on July patch...
Anyone know if Huawei are any good with updates, will we get Android 8.1 or is that just wishful thinking?
They used to be very bad but now with project treble it's actually quite fast with the security patch and stuff, I have the January security patch on my Mediapad M3, Mate 9 and 10 as well as android 8 on both of my mates

You all should rebrand. I bought this mate 10 original (C636) said international..
I got two updates in less than a month of purchasing the phone. Huawei is faster than HTC 10 unlocked and way faster than Sony and Samsung ever was for me.
Ps. there's a thread for updates already, you know where..

No one really should have to do that, Huawei stated back end of last year that they will be pushing updates faster which is really not true. I am still on November security patch in the UK also. I bought Mate 9 and Mate 10 Pro only because I don't want to worry about battery When I leave home and it does give me insane battery life. However with the rise of security breaches, malware, adware and more having a secure phone is now becoming a priority than having long battery and as such I will be only using Google phones going forward.

Wow.. weird.. lol I stuck my Bell sim in and was actually surprised they gave me the APN settings but thats all.
That "three" sim sounds like bs. I'd be switching my provider.

Just got Mate 10 Lite, why is there no OTA Oreo update for RNE-L21.
I see news article from months ago saying Oreo update started. Any way i can force update or something without rooting or unlocking bootloader?
Not bad at delivering updates.

129 on 3rd of February 2018
137 on the 20th of April 2018
142 on the 7th of June 2018
145 on the 14th of July 2018

We will. Though I believe it will come a while after mate 20 launch since they will want to promote new features. They would hurt themselves by showing customers "hey, we just released a big update for our old , now cheaper phone which brings newest os and tons of new features".

I believe L29 models will get updates fast. I'm in the U.S. and have both L09 (mine) and L29 (mom's) models and the L29 has been receiving updates periodically while the L09 just received 8.0.0.123. The L29 now has Face ID unlock and the L09, according to the Huawei rep, has no plan for that feature for the U.S. version in the meantime. Lesson learned. Buy the international version.
Hello,
I want to buy pocophone 6/64 version.
Before i buy the product i just want to make sure if there is severe screen bleeding issues in both poco f1 or pocophone (Indian or Chinese version).
both Chinese and Indian unit are available in our local market so i have the option to buy either of this two variant. If the problem is to any specific variant i will prefer the other variant of it.
thank you
Yes both have it. The degree of screen bleed varies from devices to device. There is minimal bleed in most pocophones and it's only apparent when you really try and look for it.
I have the global version and I don't notice it.
EDIT: note that sellers might not accept a refund unless the bleeding is very, very apparent.
Choose the one which has the manufacturing date as September or October. Don't buy the ones manufactured on August.
I just bought from Flipkart no bleeding issue. Manufacturing date is September 2018.

My S23 Ultra (European EUX OXM) hasn't been updated with the February 2023 Security Patch Level. I'm on S918BXXU1AWA6.
Though, I recently updated my S21 Ultra (AUT) and strangely it's more updated than my S23 Ultra .

EDIT: Added a poll in order see when the February Patch will be released.
No. You're not the only one
Sane for me too and my wife's 23+
they probably will releases an update before/on the official launch day (Friday 17th)

I'd love to see that.
We are sit on pre released software... wait until 17th for official release of the phones.
No one will be on the February release....apart from beta testers....until the release date.

I think you do not know, but there is quite major difference between google play and security patch.
Yeah I think it'll be tomorrow ah about 9ish, that's what happened last year anyway
Anyway, incredible that this device is so good with pre release firmware.
Imagine if with time they will further improve camera and battery life

You are right, my mistake
Samsung is a lot better with updates. The only reason you wouldn't get an update on time is if there's a bad bug that requires fixing and the update got pulled. Also South Korea obviously gets updates first followed by Europe. USA gets updates anywhere from 3-5 days to 1-2 weeks after Europe does. From my experience on previous Galaxy's it was always about 1 week after updates went out in Europe for my USA Galaxy to get updated.

I wish I could agree, but where I am, the security updates have been sporadic at best, last one in S21ULTRA was the January sec patch delivered February 21. More often than not in 2022 two security updates were delivered at the same time, almost 3 months later than the Pixel.
Oh I was confused glad I'm not the only one.

where are you from? I guess it also depends on your country since there may be special circumstances, specific carriers or government approval, ect. that is delaying your update since once Samsung sends out updates in S. Korea their should be no reason why you are not getting the update unless your country or your specific carrier is holding it back. It used to be really bad here in the USA but the last 3 years I have seen a huge improvement in the update schedule for Samsung devices.
my s23 ultra security patch Jan 2023.
Galaxy Note 20 Ultra 5G security patch Feb 2023.
no day one patch so far with the security patch for february
I think they decided the phone is perfect already, **** the updates
Yeah, just checked for new OTA software updates.
Also checked on Sammobile Firmware.
No luck
