How can I connect it to transfer files? The best results that I can get are "unauthorized" or sideload using the ADB Sideload feature on TWRP.

so cm10.1 zip isn't on your device anymore?
how does this keep happening?
what did you do> flash then wipe?
you can adb push the rom to /sdcard
or you can adb push one of the known working nandroid backups found in bugsy's thread on the international side.

I flashed a rom and it works great. My problem is i can't get back into recovery to flash gapps. My pc is not recognizing the phone now and i can't think of a way to install playstore or flash the gapps package i have downloaded into the phone.
Any ideas would be helpful.
Thanks!
which recovery did you flash to your phone m8 ?
Is USB debugging on? If you flashed a new rom it won't be on by default. Check that then connect USB to computer you will get a message on phone asking trust this computer, say yes. Then reboot to fastboot mode and fastboot flash recovery <custom recovery image file name>

ADB-Fastboot, basically your going to 'adb sideload' and flash a ROM from your computer. Its not that hard. Just read everything
You can also root your phone via abd, so I don't understand your problem

Waited for an hour still no progress, I tried fastbooting and trying it again, I tried the older roms too, they are not working either...
Can someone help??

i think so you need do a clean flash of cyanogenmod with all wipes without external estorage, and flash cyanogenmod with the latest build of twrp, i recomend you that use twrp 3.0.2 build of squid.
Or if this fail, flash the stock factory images of your model and flash twrp then flash cyanogenmod again
sorry for my english

i recomend that you need to flash the latest version of twrp, you can found it on the twrp website, only search on the devices, the moto e and download the ".img" and flash it on your pc using fastboot, then boot into recovery and make all tha flashes (system, data, cache, dalvik cache, internal storage) and flash the rom and the gapps

so I flashed twrp 3.1.1.0 mido for redmi note 4 and then as soon as I pressed reboot, it was stuck on mi logo.
i think its bricked but I don't know for sure. I read some place that dw verity must be disabled in twrp recovery. but I didn't find any option of dw verity in twrp settings.
so I took backup of my data and now I'm hoping to find a way to boot my device without losing my data.
I'm open to installing a custom ROM too if that solves the problem.
(I'm a noob )
to disable dm verify just flash lazyflasher.zip .you will find it easily in miui or xda forums in rooting threads.

Once you flash TWRP, you've to instantly boot to TWRP and flash lazyflasher.zip and then reboot. Otherwise you'll stuck at bootlogo.
Here's the link to lazyflasher : https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=529152257862700328
How to fix :
*.Boot to fastboot mode
*.Flash TWRP using fastboot command fastboot flash recovery recoveryname.img
*.Next, do not disconnect your phone, use fastboot command fastboot boot recoveryname.img
*.once you're in twrp, flash lazyflasher.zip
*.Reboot.

Once you're in fastboot then try to install twrp recovery.
Once you successfully install twrp, then boot into TWRP (either using volume up + power button combo, or fastboot command without quotes
Code:
" fastboot boot recoveryname.img "
)
Once you're in twrp, wipe everything except internal storage and install a new rom and reboot.

Hi, just sorry for my lameness. Once the fastboot icon appears, what do I do? Should I connect to a laptop or desktop?
